Tools of war are not always obvious. The worst weapon is an idea planted in the mind of man. Prejudices can kill, suspicion can destroy, and a thoughtless, frightened search for a scapegoat has an everlasting fallout all of its own.

This page is totally freezing on me

I tried to embed the chart in the article in my comment, and now the page freezes when I try to open or edit my comment. Its also frozen the comments section in my account.

I'm sorry I had to do an amputation

I wasn't able to get the page to load either, or see the comment.

I was able to delete the comment, so the page will load now at least. Sorry! But the thread is working now.

howdy mods

Noticed that this post of mine, with my interview with G. Edward Griffin was unpublished now?

http://www.dailypaul.com/311841/my-interview-with-g-edward-g...

I don't know if it was a mistake or if there's really a problem with me posting it, let me know! Thanks!

UPDATE: Still not sure why this was unpublished...just want to know if it's something I did wrong so I don't make the same mistake in the future! Thanks!

Looks like that was a mistake - sorry!

Mods have a link at the bottom of every post that will unpublish it with one click. Looks like it got hit by accident.

Please accept my apologies. I just republished it.

Thanks Steve - that is an ad

I don't want the board flooded with peoples ads, and I don't want people saying, "You let that ad on, why not my ad?"

The board is for discussion, not for ads, so the best course of action is to disallow all.

Thanks.

Re the bookshelf,

I don't understand what I'm doing wrong such that sometimes my amazon-linked books show up, sometimes they don't.

For instance, this morning around 7am I linked The Call Of The Wild, which didn't make it. (There are already a few on the bookshelf from today, posted later than mine.) http://www.dailypaul.com/283803/im-looking-for-a-good-read-w...

Thanks for any insight you might have here.

There is a response

in the post body from the admin that did it:

Already posted - thanks
http://www.dailypaul.com/311206/rand-pauls-response#comments

Some place it in comments, some place it directly in the post as a note.

Please explain?

Your post was inappropriate

What I said at the beginning of the year about the Daily Paul: Raise the Bar.

Your post is an example of lowering the bar. It is incoherent, and contains nothing of value.

This is appropriate for Facebook, not the Daily Paul.

That's what stood out to me.

That and Obama was lighter then Boner and darker then Biden oh and Biden's blink rate compared to Boner. The subliminal's were off the chart.

Not to mention that you bumped it three times.

I would love to see

Some space between the Active link and the Log Out link on the right side of the page. My fat fingers thank you. :-)

Blocking

I have a user blocked but they are showing up in threads now. When I select the user, it says they are blocked.

reproducibly?

can you point to a post where it's happening? OS/browser & version?

it's no longer happening.

it's no longer happening. very strange

Google chrome. I did a search

Google chrome.

I did a search for one of their posts and was able to select it and see their replies. Then I searched through other posts and am able to see their replies on posts not of their own origin.

I have asked in the AFT thread but I am

not getting any responses.

3 were front paged

"I wonder how many posts about Kelly Thomas there have been recently"

Of the four I see readily visible, three were front paged, and two were before you:

date: 01/13/2014 - 18:53
title: "Ex-Officers Found Not Guilty in Kelly Thomas’ Beating Death"
currently front paged: yes

date: 01/13/2014 - 21:27
title: Kelly Thomas' killers “were doing their job. They had no malice in their heart.”
currently front paged: yes

date: 01/15/2014 - 08:35
title: Kelly Thomas Verdict
currently front paged: no

date: 01/17/2014 - 12:51
title: A Special Edition of the Lions of Liberty Podcast on the Kelly Thomas Verdict
currently front paged: yes

Sorry yours wasn't, if it wasn't, as it may have been, since many posts get a temporary front page to maximize exposure.

The horrible tragedy is the event, not that your presentation of it was published on the Daily Paul, accessible within minutes by a Google search, entered Most Discussed, Upvoted, Wordy, and Viewed, but wasn't front paged.

Barring unintended exposure of personal information, the mod box is not a place to ask for things to be (un/)front paged. I'm aware of no place for that. I originally posted this in your post, but felt it was distracting and unrelated, so moved it here.

"You underestimate the character of man." | "So be off now, and set about it." | Up for a game?

Ok John...

thanks for the reply.

Why cannot I get an answer about algorithms deciding what is front paged and for how long?

Why were 2 of my threads UNpublished?

I have asked that my thread about the colorado reporter be removed from the front page on the thread. Whose decision is to keep it there?
And since I cannot delete it - we once could delete our own threads -
how can I get this done?

Still waiting for answers Jon.

Sunny

We generally don't give out the exact algorithm information/requirements and have no intention of doing it, so that it is less likely to be abused by people just attempting to get something on the front page.

There are many requirements that must be met.

This issue is getting kind of overblown from an outside perspective over a thread not being front paged. If people weren't really interested in it enough to get it there, then they weren't.

And as has always been known here, if you post something, it might wind up there, be it by direct placement or algorithm. So I don't understand the importance of the other thread's removal when the above is known in advance. People were interested in that one enough to get it there.

mike

thanks for replying.

I am not asking about algorithm requirements - what I would like to know is, is it algorithms that determine which posts are front paged or is it the mods? It was once the job of the mods.

There are some quite idiotic topics on the front page at any given day giving this site the look of the national enquirer. I know there are quite a few of us who have been here a while who are disappointed as I am how the site it progressing. It appears to be going downhill and has been for a while.

Maybe the current mods should step back and look at the big picture - if that is possible.

My second question is why were 2 of my threads UNpublished?

Ron Paul is My President

Michael Nystrom's picture

.

Your 2 threads were unpublished because they were inappropriate.

Do you understand that threads with these titles are inappropriate for the Daily Paul's forum?

Please remove my thread from the front page
and
MODS - Interesting choices of Front Page threads

Seriously. If you looked at the forum topics and saw those two threads, what would you think? I'll tell you what I think: I think you're rude and out of line.

If you don't understand the inappropriateness, let me be more clear:

First - If you don't want your thread on the front page, then don't post it in the first place. Any thread you post is at risk of going on the front page.

Second - Don't yell at the moderators in a forum post.

Imagine if everyone used the forum the way you do. It would be complete chaos. We need to follow some rules and social norms here for the benefit of the entire community. There are more people here than just you.

Maybe you should step back and let the mods run the site - if that is possible. As you know, it is not an easy job. You were a mod once, and you could not follow the simple instructions that I gave you. That frustrated me to no end. That is why you're no longer a mod here.

Posts are front-paged by an algorithm with human intervention. Like Mike said, we don't want to get into the details.

You've been warned now about the inappropriate threads. Further questions about how the site is run internally are also inappropriate.

If you don't like the posts on the front page, or if you don't like the order that they're in, then you'll have to find someplace else that you like better. Again, there are more people here than just you.

Really sunny, you've been here a long time, so I don't want to have to make you leave. I have exercised forbearance, just as I gave you many chances to redeem yourself as a mod.

But if you keep pestering us like this, you will leave me with no choice.

This is not how I wish to spend any more of my time.

Weekly Classic

I bet over the years a lot of very good posts have been written/shared on this website.

Would it be possible to front page a different "classic" each week? Perhaps to make the process easier, one could generate a post list with all those that exceeded some vote threshold. Then, the list could be randomly divided into manageable chunks (maybe 5 or 10 posts) to be divided among you fellows. Finally, each of you could pick a favorite from your chunk and get together to decide which of those to publish for that week (those chosen are moved to a new list, potential future candidates are put back into the pool of choices, and those deemed "non-classic" could be moved to a culled list). One could adjust the vote threshold to generate a sufficient number of posts to last a desired amount of time. Perhaps, you could discuss your choices over a beer.

It would be nostalgic.

I wish

I wish the site could stop Banning people for life.
If you want to Ban a person do a 24 hour, 3 days, A week, or something fair!

Banning someone until the end of time is wrong.
I see less and less content and community because people leave when their friend gets banned.

And if you value the idea of a site community, maybe have a vote to ban the person!

I know you like playing KING and Royal guard, but I don't like you doing so.

Maybe this is just my computer, but...

In referencing a particular song, someone at the jam session thread provided a link to a comment of mine on April 7, 2013:

http://www.dailypaul.com/270001/time-for-my-nightly-jam-sess...

When I clicked on the link, it said, "Comment Not Found." I tried going to my account page and accessing it that way, but the same thing happened. I *was* able to access other comments of mine from that long ago, just nothing from the jam session thread.

If you have any suggestions of what else I might try, I'd appreciate your letting me know. Thanks.
