Symbol of Revolution.

In one of the threads celeste said I should design a flag for the Revolution This made me laugh, of course not the symbol is "The don't tread on me" flag.

Celeste comment made me start thinking, well what would my design be if I had to design a flag.

For some reason the answer came to me without to much trouble and I would like to share with you my thoughts on this. Here is a picture of what I think my flag would look like.

http://thumbs.dreamstime.com/thumb_236/1202866485KZ5387.jpg

The picture is of a mighty white oak tree, standing alone reaching to the sky, strong and immovable. It's limbs reaching out to shelter, its roots run deep to reach the nourishing waters of truth. The acorns desired for food are plentiful. Wildlife planting them ensures further generations. The wood of the white oak tree is rather special in that water will not penetrate it so it is excellent in make furniture, barrels and ships. One of these ships was the USS CONSTITUTION. Need I say more.

When I read that, I was floored. I thought yes, this is right and good. I want something that represents all that is right and good. Here is more information about my personal choice of a revolutionary flag, my own personal coat of arms in which I shall hope to emulate.

Each of us should give this some thought. What would you choose to symbolize your character and beliefs? I would enjoy hearing from you.

An outline of America with

our children holding the Constitution and the Declaration of Independence. Only thing is the Declaration should have the date of 2009!

Then the pledge of the parents making it so! Guns optional! lol

color revolutions

Forget affixing an image on this movement. An image is prone to manipulation by the media, and the most powerful media is the government.

Every political turn is symbolized, which should be spurned with every chance. Symbols can be as simple as a color, as in the color revolutions hyped by the western media; the latest incarnation being Iran's GREEN revolution.

Who cares about the liberals in Tehran? Most Americans' days are not consumed by international affairs, that much can be assured, but guess who is: the government, that's who.

#$#We need to build political strength and political will*&*&

We need to build political strength and political will.

That is a beautiful flag

and it's so simple. Thanks for sharing it with me, I never heard about it. I am learning so much history. You know I think some one could write a book about flags and such the history is very interesting. I used to sing when I was a kid. "My Bonnie lies over the ocean, My Bonnie lies over the sea, My Bonnie lies over the ocean. Oh, bring back my Bonnie to me, to me, bring back, bring back, bring back my Bonnie to me."

I think the Gasden flag still fits the bill....

No sense in confusing folks with new, unknown symbols.

A few years ago, I new a very weird chick who was traveling around with he boyfriend trying to promote a new 'peace' sign. She explained in great detail what the different parts of the symbol meant.

I asked her, 'Why?'.

It's like when Prince changed his name to the symbol for Boron... no matter what kind of talent you have, that's a no-win proposition.

I may not know the truth, but I know when I'm being lied to...

I may not know the truth, but I know when I'm being lied to...

Your right this is not to

replace the Gadsden flag. This is to have some FUN, the doctors orders. I was asked about a flag and it got me thinking. Everyone should have something that motivates them or inspires them or defines them. Maybe it's a snake maybe a tree maybe it's hemp or cannibis or a rooster. Some
times we need to step back and take a breath.

Quilting

I love the way you "calibrate" things !!

An Appeal to Heaven

The description of the big oak tree reminds me of George Washington's flag called "An Appeal to Heaven" and the t-shirt at http://www.RadRight.com

My symbol?

Great symbol! Reminds me of this...

"The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants."
-- Thomas Jefferson

Here's my idea.

Here's my idea:

COME AND TAKE IT!

Nah, Come and Get It!

Maybe you should replace...

the tinfoil hat image with one of your heart. Of course, coal won't be as shinny, but it will be more accurate.

Assert Your Authority

Assert Your Authority

wtf is that?

"Unite Or Die"..

its a tinfoil hat

they are trying to be funny, but its not.
Kinda a dick move if you ask me.

personally i think it says a

personally i think it says a lot. Obviously it was a joke, the white oak idea is much more appropriate. but the tin foil hat is symbolic of those who wish to protect their individuality, even in the face of ridicule. When I talk about the fed, about the NWO, heck even if I talk about the constitution I'm often accused of being a tin foil hat wearing conspiracy theorist. So I'll take the object of my ridicule and transform it into the symbol of my individual liberty. Much like what Christians do with the cross of Christ. It was the object of their ridicule, a symbol of torture and death, of the power of the state and culture over them, after the resurrection it became their symbol of victory. Our free thinking minds are the most dangerous threats to tyranny, and if they want mine, well the can just try to come and take it.

When we win the fight for our individual liberties, I'm going to put on the most elaborate tin foil hat I can come up with to celebrate. I'm going to stand on the steps in front of the federal reserve with my middle finger extended boldly and freely, and scream at the top of my lungs. "my tin foil hat is worth more than all the money you can print, it's not for sale!"

:)

OK, but you do know the origin

of the Tin foil hat.

In the 1960's there were a number of people that believed that aliens, the government or both were reading and/or controlling their thoughts, and that wrapping tinfoil around their heads would protect them from this. Hardly comparable to the cross.

There is a line where free thinking stops, and crazy begins, Jeffry Dalhmer was not a free thinker, nor is the guy downtown that is always talking to himself.

The microwave

The microwave voices-in-the-head mind-control meme may have gotten started from an old Twilight Zone episode. A woman in a penthouse apartment is hearing voices and is worried she's going nuts. Turns out that the penthouse is on the path of a microwave link from a radio studio to a transmitter and she is somehow "hearing" this audio as whispering voices.

It's ALMOST possible - the kind of stuff where a script writer has only part of the technology right. On one hand corroded dental fillings have occasionally acted as detectors for strong AM signals. And a VERY strong signal can cause sound from selective heating. Unfortunately, such studio links were generally moderate-power FM and not readily detected by incidental organic and/or metallic structures.

If one were hearing voices carried by microwaves, though, a tinfoil hat might actually block or alter the propagation of 'em enough to make the voices go away.

-Lawrence Welk (as satirized by Stan Freeberg.)

that's funny because just

that's funny because just yesterday i feared i was going crazy because i could hear voices until i realized what i was hearing was the golden girls and somehow i think my neighbors windows all being covered in foil is the reason.

I remember

that episode. Oh, my gush. I can remember that but I can't remember what I did twenty minutes ago. Damn

I understood you and

your explain is outstanding, thanks.

Now we

Get your point !

Lebanese flag is a tree, the cedar tree

Just wanted to let you know that using a tree as a symbol is not unusual.

LivingTheDream

Didn't see it mentioned yet...

so thought I would point out that it could also easily represent the Liberty Tree.

Excerpt...

The Liberty Tree (1646–1775) was a famous tree that stood in Boston, near Boston Common, in the days before the American Revolution. The tree was a rallying point for the growing resistance to the rule of England over the American colonies. In the years that followed, almost every American town had its own Liberty Tree—a living symbol of popular support for individual liberty and resistance to tyranny. In some locales, a Liberty Pole rather than a tree served the same political purpose.

This is

Really cool info. What a great thread with great ideas. Symbols are indeed very powerful.

Thanks, Devon

here is a link also that someone had posted from below.

http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-chat/1623905/posts

It is very interesting. It said that the tree was first used by the African American community as a site of gathering, dances and celebrations and to elect their community leaders. The Sons of Liberty began to use the tree to organize and to hang tax collectors in effigy because of the stamp act. It became known as the Liberty Tree. When the British cut it down that REALLY got people mad. Yoohoo! Wow, exciting stuff.

Your flag/symbol

sounds like Minas Tirith's "White Tree" the symbol of Gondor from the Lord of the Rings.

lol not that thats a bad thing at all.

Wait wait !

Nice tree, but it looks dead.

Got a white oak with leaves on it?

I'd vote for that.

LOL

Gee, this is going to be a challenge.

Nice Start

But the embroidery bill will kill you! ;-)

I'd simplify it a bit. Maybe a green bar at the bottom a light blue field behind the tree, and simplify the tree and make it just an outline.

Thanks, looks

like a really helpful site. I agree this is just a start.

Everyone should have there own flag

here is mine

as far as symbols go, each symbol has a personal memory attached, im not collecting advertisement revenues, unfortunately

I like your flag

it is amazing how important our memories are and how they carry through our whole lives.

The flag

This is truth. we are the leaves and we are all one in the same.

I Love this Thread!

Wow I really enjoyed learning about the White Oak, it is a powerful symbol. I think it should be used in advertizing Peter Schiff's Connecticut race because is the State tree after all AND on the back of the CT quarter.

Before we crown the White Oak however, allow me to make the case for the White Pine

The Eastern White Pine tree has been referred to as “the monarch of the forest.” Some that greeted the first settlers reached a height of 250 feet with diameters of 6 feet. They were a bonanza for England in colonial times, as they met a vital military and commercial need for sailing ship masts. Since the colonists were rapidly using up the existing supply of trees close to the ocean that were large enough for masts, the Royal Navy appealed to Parliament. As a result, in 1691 Great Britain imposed the first of the so-called “broad arrow” acts, so named because of the axe mark placed on the reserved trees by the king’s men, that reserved these trees for the English government. Growing resentment to the crown’s appropriation of the choicest White Pines helped precipitate the Revolutionary War, and the first flag of the revolutionary forces even had a White Pine as its emblem. -Arborday.org

"All tyranny needs to gain a foothold is for people of good conscience to remain silent."

I didn't know that

But I did know that Jerome Ford, Henry Meigs and others, including a number of ship captains, came to Mendocino and began harvesting of redwood, and they were all from the east coast and from the white pine industry there, and created Bohiemian Grove here. It's why Mendocino city looks like the east coast. Mendocino city even had a Dog Schooner ship yard for a number of years in the beginning, when 5K board ft of lumber was taken annually, by the Mendocino saw. Then came the oxen and production went up to 75K bd ft, and then the donkey engine took 375K bd ft, and people blame the chain saw for the loss of lumber, but it's not chain saws... CR Johnson, the founder of what became Union Lumber and Georgia Pacific came from a white pine mill family.

The White Oak is the Illinois State Tree.

The Tree of Life is a flag I see everywhere.. Google Images has many flags of the Tree of Life which I think is one of the most well known tree flags, not discluding the white pine represented on Christmas Tree flags.

I have always liked our banners rEVOLution, and think this is a good "symbol"... Ron Paul said he Thanked us for inviting him to The rEVOLution, so maybe it's time to expand the rEVOLution beyond Ron Paul.. The Millinium rEVOLution or something?

Personally, the "tree" of rEVOLution for me would be a cannabis tree (and they grow them to the size of trees here).. Cannabis is a fight for freedom, liberty, health, sustainability, survival, industry, production, and more for cannabis is a fight for it's life, so to speak. People have been fighting for the right to incorporate cannabis, they are willing to be taxed for it... it is a diverse plant and can heal people and the planet. It is a striking silhousette as it inspires an immediate response from people.. either attraction or repelled.

Our war on drugs is a bad foreign and domestic policy that has established a global police state that is now returning for us on our own soil as MSM writes about Prof Gates and the cop being related and sharing beer over the "mishap", Obama has put over 1 Billion into federally funded police, and the locations for the biggest hiring of federal cops is cities with known cannabis clubs and trade. Oakland CA got the biggest award. Watch out Oaksterdam.. Oakland was named for the White Oak, and it's where the Lumber barrons moved after the CA earthquake of 1906. It was built on rock, unlike much of the coast, built on sand.

I think the cannabis issues needs to get respect. It's certainly been earned. We've had at least three cannabis smoking presidents now, (although one claims to have never inhaled) ENOUGH of this pandering to the police state! Give me a flag of rEVOLution I can wave proudly. Give me a flag that represents all those who would vote if they were allowed to vote... how about a flag for them and we who give a damn about them?

If we could put a cannabis plant on a rEVOLution flag.. broken bars, to symbolise freedom from a police state, broken chains, freedom from corporate work camps/FEMA camps, ... you know Ben Franklin wanted the turkey as the national bird... A wild turkey holding a cannabis branch with broken bars behind him and a broken chain on a leg cuff on HEMP canvas, natural hemp canvas. rEVOLution across the bottom... Freedom rEVOLution?

Your on a roll Granger

Loved what you said. I think we have room for many ideas and flags. I like your ideas.

I don't know QS

I believe you're the one on a roll with your creative idea for a flag and actually getting one made. I'm just putting out some of the ideas I've had about a rEVOLution flag. Betsy Ross first flag was constructed of hemp, so I always thought hemp should be the fabric of a rEVOLution flag.. Hemp Traders is a good source for hemp cloth........

Cannabis is going to be a hot issue under the Obama administation. CA is now trying to get over 400K signatures to legalize.. and many want decriminalization, not legalization..

Anyways.. I think you have a big job in front of you and I wish you great luck and success!

Granger~

Some excellent points !!

Yes, hmmm

it seems there is so much great history that I was not aware of. Thank you for sharing this with me.

First commitee seal

The first committee consisted of Benjamin Franklin, Thomas Jefferson, and John Adams. While they were three of the five primary authors of the Declaration of Independence, they had little experience in heraldry and sought the help of Pierre Eugene du Simitiere, an artist living in Philadelphia who would later also design the state seals of Delaware and New Jersey and start a museum of the Revolutionary War. Each of these men proposed a design for the seal.
Franklin chose an allegorical scene from Exodus, described in his notes as "Moses standing on the Shore, and extending his Hand over the Sea, thereby causing the same to overwhelm Pharaoh who is sitting in an open Chariot, a Crown on his Head and a Sword in his Hand. Rays from a Pillar of Fire in the Clouds reaching to Moses, to express that he acts by Command of the Deity." Motto, "Rebellion to Tyrants is Obedience to God."

That oak is beautiful!

I can only add the idea of squirrels beneath, symbolizing individual patriots planting seeds or brush fires, if you would. Some will take root, some will be savings for the future.
Not very eloquent but I'm tired.
Hope you understand what I'm saying.

Oh, yes

wow, that is a very powerful symbol, thanks.

appeal to heaven

As soon as I saw the oak tree it reminded me of another flag that was very popular during the revolutionary war period. Probably as popular as the gadsden flag. It's called the "Appeal to Heaven" flag and it features, above that inscription, a pine tree. Not quite an oak but you get my point.

http://appeal2heaven.com/

the reason this became a slogan:

John Locke wrote in the Second Treatise of Civil Government that those "who having no appeal on earth to right them, they are left to the only remedy in such cases, an appeal to heaven."

The revolutionaries took this as a slogan. They could no longer look to the British Government to address their issues, so they would appeal not to the King, but to heaven -- and rise in revolt.

If we don't change our direction, we're likely to end up where we are headed.

If we don't change our direction, we're likely to end up where we are headed.

Thanks, that is really

interesting. I guess I am doing this little project to try and calm myself and seek some deeper guidance and strength for what may come. It is really odd because I am working on my little design and what you wrote goes with my picture. This is just a little creepy but I am truly hoping that those who loved me and have past on will help me now during this time of confusion and stress. I guess I'm looking for direction. Thanks again

A story about that tree...

The question before us, concerning the growing Revolution, stands, "Should we fall on our enemy as a sheet, or a weight? Do we attempt fragile entanglement, or clumsy impact? I would say that we should pulse, accept the strengths and weaknesses of both positions. To this end I support a symbol that we can rally under, and an emblem we can support, along with one another. We should all be watching our own back, and others backs, for if we do not defend ourselves and our fellows simultaneously, we cannot last. You may believe that I am suggesting strength through both separation and unity, and you may feel that is a useless compromise, but I'd say that there is no compromise in defending Liberty. On the field, and off, Liberty is the equal right of all and should be defended as such. If we have no other common property in this life, we are equally seeded with Liberty, and it is a harvest that must be taken, or it will be lost. I see no division in defense of Liberty, a common crop among all people, a common fuel of freedom for all. So, we should pulse, like a heart; the life of Liberty should pulse within and flow out from our individual selves. If we do not raise that pulse, time and again, we will wane, our crop will founder, and our common Liberty will fall fallow. Who will offer for sale this land in time of drought, who will starve and die when the field sprouts nothing, when our freedom seed is gone? Pulse, as a sea we will eat the ramparts of oppression away, time and again. But if we do not exercise our Liberty, course living water to the seed by our own action, there will be no tree ever in need of the blood of tyrants and patriots.

I posted this elsewhere in a slightly different way, and it doesn't quite fit - had to fiddle with the beginning, but I'd like to put it out there again in support of your idea.
