so much Dr. Paul for keeping us informed and telling us the truth always. It's good to get insight into what congress thinks as well as the true nature of the situation.
When he says "which undermines the market the poor people depend on", what does he mean?
Does he mean that the poor didnt get to buy that clunker car, since it was destroyed right? Because they are dependent on this market of clunkers, because thats all they can afford right?
So there are fewer used cars in the market to be sold.
This artificially drives up the price of used cars.
So people who tend to buy used cars-- poor people and young people get screwed.
Its quite similar to some depression era schemes where they would buy up food from farmers, and destroy it. The logic was this would drive up prices for food, which would keep the farmers in business and save us from further economic trauma. The result was that food prices went up, more people went hungry, and everyone became poorer.
stimulus of no taxes on the poor (or anyone.) Think how much more efficiently each individual could decide what to spend his/her own money on, how much more carefully they'd consider a new car vs the many other possible uses of their own money, free and clear of government dictates or restrictions.
will be destroyed, and the poor will become poorer because of the inflation caused by the gov't printing up more worthless money for this program and putting it into circulation (it dilutes or devalues the dollar more each time they do that). So everyone will suffer from that, especially those who are already poor.
The Feds destroyed urban housing affordable to the poor. The result was a shortage in housing. To solve this government created shortage, the Feds built government projects to house the urban poor.
So will the government supply autos to the poor to replace the "clunkers" they're destroying? Oh yeah, new cars for poor folks.

by Tom LaMar : In spite of the fact that some people may buy more fuel efficient "green" cars, most of the purchases so far just seem to be for foreign brands...how does this help OUR economy? should there not be some sort of economic incentive to "buy American" in all this? Of course car parts are manufactured/assembled all over the globe, but perhaps a recognizeable "American content" would help GM, etal. if they ever get to a point of "reigned-in ego-nomics" that might actually do some good?
This wouldn't have been possible 5 months ago as anyone who has tried to buy a car lately. The prices have gone up!!!
Don't buy into their tricks.

Keep old clunkers on the road, and we will save all the resources need to build a new car. And your cash will go to your local mechanic instead of south korea and japan.
on the cash for clunker program. Yesterday Sherrod Brown was on Olberman stating how fantastic this program has been for the country. The whole time I'm saying to the television, where does the money come from Mr. Senator? Answer that one you fool!
Like the good Doc has always said, everyone talks about all these wonderful things that all these spending programs are going to do for the people, but they never answer the question where the funding comes from. It's great if you are one of the few taking advantage of the program, but if you're a taxpayer not participating in it....well...yeah. Unfortunately most of the people fit in the latter category.
On a side note all these neocons that are merely grandstanding on "conservative" principles really sicken me. I'm absolutely disgusted with most of the politicians. Unfortunately I don't think the general anti Obama crowd realize that things wouldn't be much different had Mccain won the election.
So the people are getting credit( just thin air) for their old cars and finance the rest(giving the banks a nice boost).
The dealerships get credit(just thin air) which goes into their bank accounts, which give the banks another boost.
So who is really getting taken care of? The BANKS!
What a stupid government idea, but hey, that's about what we've come to expect. They're getting quite creative with their printing press money. I hear from dealers who say this program is killing their cash flow. They have to make the deal, deliver the vehicle, and pay off the factory invoice, and then wait in lurch for the government's payment of the $3500 or $4500, which they don't really have a time table for. On one hand, the government forces the closure of 3000 profitable auto dealers, and then starts buying cars for the sheeple.......all one can do is sigh. Just like health care, and the bank bailouts, which the vast majority opposes, but we'll get something crammed down our throught (or injected, as in the case of swine flu vaccine!).

Thanks in Advance for any explanations!
The government destroys the car's it buys.
So there are fewer used cars in the market to be sold.
This artificially drives up the price of used cars.

That's my take on it deus; imagine the real
stimulus of no taxes on the poor (or anyone.) Think how much more efficiently each individual could decide what to spend his/her own money on, how much more carefully they'd consider a new car vs the many other possible uses of their own money, free and clear of government dictates or restrictions.
Yes, he means the type of cars poor people can afford (clunkers)
will be destroyed, and the poor will become poorer because of the inflation caused by the gov't printing up more worthless money for this program and putting it into circulation (it dilutes or devalues the dollar more each time they do that). So everyone will suffer from that, especially those who are already poor.

This is like Urban Renewal in the 60's.
The Feds destroyed urban housing affordable to the poor. The result was a shortage in housing. To solve this government created shortage, the Feds built government projects to house the urban poor.
