Buy Our Own TV NETWORK??!?
With the combined resources of the Ron Paul movement, there is no doubt in my mind that we could finance the purchase of a TV network.
Imagine the quality of programming we could create?!? It would be awesome - shows on TRUE history, shows on real news stories, shows on liberty and discussions with liberty minded folks, introduction to liberty minded candidates, finance/economy related shows, political discussion, highlighting of key issues, etc.
I am confident, with the right production, this could be a HUGE success and help change the course of history for the better. It would be an exercise in our right as citizens and individuals to create our own free speech platform for education and awareness.
Who is down with this idea? How can we get the ball rolling?

I think if we put an
I think if we put an enormous amount of money into getting our own TV network that chances are we would primarily be the only ones watching.
We need to spread Dr. Paul's message to people who do not yet know about him. The people who don't know about him are all over the place on cable tv, watching countless channels...
I started another forum topic about the idea of infomercials... please check that out and post your thoughts.
( edited to add link: http://www.dailypaul.com/... )
It's a great idea
Just wanted to encourage the thought. Nothing is impossible. Persistence is usually the winner!
yea, call it
FREE AMERICA TELEVISION (FAT)
The accumulation of all powers, legislative, executive, and judiciary, in the same hands, whether of one, a few, or many, and whether hereditary, self-appointed, or elective, may justly be pronounced the very definition of tyranny. James Madison
Which Century are You Folks in?
There is no need for 75 million dollars for a license and tens of millions more for equipment, marketing departments and all of that.
Theres this cool new doohicky called "The Internet".
Internet TV Stations are cropping up all over the place. Even online gaming communities have them. Not too difficult to set up, not too expensive to maintain, show whatever programming you want to create - get backing/advertising from anyone who will pay - win/win.
If you'd like more info, just ask :)

Thinking man's tv! Put some
Thinking man's tv! Put some history shows on it. Some news with our slant (which of course in my opinion is not slant.) If Ron Paul doesn't win (of course not likely :) ) then we could have him host an educational talk show. He could host all of the revolutionaries that are going to be running for Congress on his platform soon!
And don't compete with New Media--incorporate it. Have a show that displays the best of YouTube or something. Have a talk show that discusses what was learned on blogs. And have a show for "extreme opinions" hosted in a what if fashion so that people at least hear the fringe ideas, but don't turn off the station b/c it's "run by truthers" or something. Run documentaries like "Freedom to Facism".
That's a great dream! Maybe not something that could happen right away, but not a dream to let die.

Start with FM radio network.
Start with FM radio network. It is cheaper. Start in big cities.
Can't happen
You need carriage on cable networks. Negotiating these take YEARS. Better off putting up video on websites. That you can do in short order.
bubble burstingly yours,
rda
Don't laugh people, it worked for Paul Crouch with TBN.
I can just see it... tonight's special guest Sibel Edmonds...tune in tomorrow for interview with former Fox employees...(already a revealing youtube video about Fox. Don't have the link)
I think it is to late
it seems we are moving in the wrong direction to fast now.
That's not true. I've just
That's not true. I've just learned about Ron Paul in the past few weeks and am absolutely fired up about him. I already have a handful of people who are now definitely voting for him and many others who are now giving him consideration.
Don't give up! This is too important for all of us.
This is the only way to reaaly change thigs
We need to think like our enemy. What do the neo-cons stalin hitler and the globilists all have in common? One word PROPAGANDA! and lots of it. Sure the internet is great, but TV brings legitamacy and reaches virtually everyone. Not to mention the internet has like a billion choices on it before you get to our message. Ron Paul can't do this by himself anyway. The market is ripe for the truth in news, It would dominate the competition. Ron Paul and the founders would love this idea, you know the free market approach. Sure it would take time and be exspensive, but it would be profitable and be a permanent solution to our msm plight. Lets stop bitching about the msm and compete with them on their playing field. Good will always triumph if allowed to compete. If murdoch can do this as one man we can do this as a revolution.
then I could start to watch
then I could start to watch TV again- i love it!!
I hear this! Have never
I hear this! Have never had cable tv and rarely watch myself. Boy, would I watch if something like this were available! If anyone with deep pockets sees this thread and takes interest.....PLEASE.....count me in for small investment, best I can do.
I'm glad we don't have cable!!
I might end up sounding like my neighbor's grandpa! They have cable and he sits there all day screaming at the TV and how this country is going to H***!
We are really seeing a shift
We are really seeing a shift of media online these days. It is imperative that the internet not be regulated. What we need is a way to band together net sources deemed honest. There needs to be some sort of--deomocratic--organization that bands these sources together. I was betting on companies like Google or Apple leading the push to this--Apple has already made a big push with the AppleTV and such. Do people trust the AP anymore, or is it just that the msm choose not to listen to them?
You could have control over a major like msm
for the most part owning 5 to 6% of a major channel can give you the control over the whole channel.
I do not know what that is but that could be faster and some one would maybe want that investment. But then there could be a consortium of those that are member owner now and just putting a little more ownership could tip the scales of the channel.
Cant happen within the next year
Wait until TV goes 100% digital and the PC merges with the TV... THEN ... "we the people" can do exactly what you suggest. The company I am part of does video + flash work for the Internet. We have green screen studios, actors, non-linear video editors, flash developers, software engineers, etc... we could easily run a CNN type operation out of our studios but cannot broadcast on TV without a lot of $$$... but the Internet brings the costs way way down... we are just a couple years away from being able to do exactly what you suggest however...
I like your idea of internet tv
I am sick of TV. I personally see them as the FALSE PROPHETS.
All of them speak the same message, show the same B reel, have the same cover stories...blah, blah, BORING.
I have brought this topic up too on a forum but it didn't get alot of interest, so I am glad that people are starting to re-think this idea.
I did some research about a national cable channel for sale and the only one on the market is THE WEATHER CHANNEL. Yep, they only want about 5 billion dollars to buy it. I am not joking.
So I think the internet is a good alternative. Oprah started out local, so did Regis, so did Phil....so another good possiblility is to buy a small local channel and hit it out of the park so that a national channel picks it up for syndication.
I really like the internet tv idea. Just wish this could be speeded up a bit.
Keep the forum alive and current, b/c as the campaign progresses there will be many more that will want to look at this idea more seriously.
To all the Nay Sayers
Please focus your negative points on a forum that bashes RP. Some of you have spent way too much time criticizing this supporters idea. Let him/her give it a shot. Can't your negative time be more better spent bashing CNN for their debate. Or Sean Hannity for being a retard.
I guess my career in the Marine Corps has brain washed me into believing that nothing is impossible. You see, the SUCCESS of a REVOLUTION is directly affected by the STRENGTH of its Army. I visit three of four RP support forums each day. I have learned that his supporters vary from young Marines such as myself to musicians to lawyers to economists to business owners to politicians. We have an Army that is stronger than any one man could have imagined. Believing now that we have some form of limitation on our abilities is insane. If we capitalize on the knowledge and wisdom of or Revolutionary Army we can succeed in anything we try.
If Trevor Lyman said on November 4th that RP would break fund raising records, some people (like Rush Limbaugh) would have ignored you. If he said that we were going to put a blimp in the air to fly over a reenactment of the spark of the American Revolution, many (like Michele Malkin) would have laughed at you. Now Mitt Romney openly buys elections and CNN and Fox plant dirty questions in debates because now they are scared of him.
Amen to that
I'm not a marine, but simple logic shows that you must have the THOUGHT and DESIRE to make ACTION. Naysayers avert action by destroying desire of other's thoughts.
agreed
well said.
I like your comment about Marines thinking nothing...
is impossible.. that is so true.. that is the drive that changes Marines from being mearly soldiers into being Devil Dogs!
Of coarse you cannot WILL POWER yourself past the $$$ issue. If only a Bill Gates out there had that same attitude and loved Ron Paul!
Like my other post on this thread says we are only a couple years away from being able to do this for real beause of TV going digital.
$75 Million to launch cable channel
I see two reasons that would have helped FBC to be the cheapest in history.
First, the technology to produce video is constantly going down in price. You can do more today with a fairly standard PC than you could with very expensive equipment just a few years ago. (We get this advantage too.)
Second, Fox Business Channel was able to depend upon the corporate muscle of Murdoch to get it onto cable systems. (We don't have this advantage, but we do have people ready to demand this kind of channel get carried.)
As far as being "completely neutral", that is not a reasonable goal. The bias of "The Liberty Network" (or whatever we call it) should be stated up front. Something like "More government is not *always* the solution". As long as we are fair and respectful to the to the people who are interviewed, and we can gather a crowd, people will come on.
Raising $75 million for a *for profit* venture is not trivial, but it should be a lot easier than raising it in campaign contributions. Remember! The person or people who bankroll this get a Cable Network that will most likely be profitable. In addition of course, they get an opportunity to balance the corporate news in this country with another voice.
This is the free market. Some smart person with the money to do this will notice what is happening in this country, and they will see that there is an opening for such a network. When we find out that this is happening, *we* need to call up our respective cable and satellite TV providers and get them to carry the channel. If we can show up at straw polls nationwide, we can also call cable systems nationwide.
Oh, if the person starting this advertises here, I am sure they will find a LOT of people with technical skills, if they want to hire them to make this happen. I would even think about it.
May I suggest New Hampshire for the corporate headquarters? (Nod to the Free State Project.) Outside of my home state of Virginia, that is where I would be most likely to be willing to move.
Real News
There is already a company in place that in unbiased it is www.realnews.com
realnews.com
Is liberal biased.
This may have been gone over....
Sorry, I don't have time to read the entire thread. Just happened upon this one. Someone mentioned too expensive, agreed, time is short, I don't think we would have the time to put it together.
We COULD put together enough money for the first (?) "prime time" infomercial. The infomercial idea came from another thread I read once. Just putting in my 2 cents. (not much with the dollar in decline, I understand LOL).
I love the exchange of ideas the internet brings about, good and bad.
M.
I agree...right now we need to get the message out in infomercia
I really hope the HQ campaign will focus on getting an infomercial out on all national networks.
Decent Idea
But we'll need backing from someone with a lot of TV business knowledge.
Let's keep in mind the $75mil can be paid through advertising, heck we may even pull a profit (nothing wrong with that).
Make a News channel that is REALLY unbiased, although one could argue that C-SPAN fulfills that role (sort of).
I realize most
I realize most of you guys don't run companies or large scale departments within companies but Fox Business will operate at a loss for at least the first 3 years.
If you really want to do something, knock on a door. YouTube or an internet channel could be an option.
This is not a bad idea but either is winning the lottery. Both are rooted in fantasy.
Oh Ye of little faith. Fantasy?
"It does not take a majority to prevail... but rather an irate, tireless minority, keen on setting brushfires of freedom in the minds of men." Samuel Adams
Ummm, no
Please research how much moneny it took to start Fox Business and you tell me. It's was one of the cheapest channel launches in history. If I remember correctly, it cost $75,000,000 +
I think maybe everyone would be better served to just donate and knock on doors :)
The best idea ever in politics is knocking on a door - have you guys done it in the last week?
MSM Has lost control
The Reason the MSM is having such fits over Ron Pauls' support is because they see it as having lost control over the minds of the American People. They are frustrated and confused. It just goes to prove that there are still enough freedom loving Patriots in America to make a difference. However the question remains "What will happen if Ron Paul does not get the nomination"? (God forbid!)
Will we stay united in our cause to save America? The Idea to have a free press is great but it would be tremendously costly, but certainly worth looking into. On the other hand, if HR 1955 passes the Senate there will be no freedom of expression except along party lines. Any one who advocates "political, social, or religeous change" would be considered a domestic terrorist.
Which one of us will speak up then? Without the "writ of Habeas Corpus" your F@#$%d!
Love it Love it Love it
I think it is imperative to get something going because I see the window of opportunity closing. I truly hope that there are some young motivated people out there that believe in truth and the value of the Constitution to make this happen. If we pooled our money and started small who knows, nothing ventured nothing gained. It would be wonderful to turn the tv on and actually have something worth while to watch.
good idea
gleidy
You have my vote. I think with the mass of people in the Ron Paul movement, we have real economic power. The only way for freedom to take root is for it to take root in mass. This is the kind of thinking that we need.
FREEME.TV
Freeme.tv is the closes thing we have right no w to a tv station. I'm already proud of ron paul radio because they did exactly what they needed to do for that medium.
Freeme.tv would need the programs or shows and then they can update it every day as the shows are produce.
There are already programs on youtube that we can contact and I'm sure they would be able to provide contact.
The Ridleyreport out of NH - http://www.youtube.com/us...
Also a channel for Ron Paul's camera person who takes footage of ron paul on a daily basis.
our own tv netvwork
why not work toward an online tv/type network. develop your content, put the content and ideas out there and let people comment. take your time and grow slowly, then, maybe at a later date, it would be feasible to think about something like the proposed tv station. and you would already have a format worked out and some content developed. not too different from what we are doing now, here and on other sites, but more visual, more programmed and polished . so many of you have such creative ideas, it could come together. think about how Imus went from just radio to TV. if someone has the energy, time and resources, go for it, but start small and let it grow itself.
Ive been thinking for ages
What is needed is a bona fide interesting, entertaining libertarian talk radio host. There is Charles Goyette, who is great, but there must be others out there. We need them!
Great idea!
Personally I think it's a great idea, it is very tiring having to see news on T.V. from such limited sources.
grant
bad idea
TV is too regulated and way to expensive to consider..it would take ages to get approval and licenses
bad idea???
How is it a bad idea? doing something of this magnitude would show exactly how strong the revolution is,plus it would give us a medium to spread the word.
very short sighted if you ask me to call it a bad idea.
2 week old daily paul pajeff2 i guess has all the answers.
Time
The amount of time here is irrelevant..This idea will never fly..Try to come up with something sensible
TV
Do you have any idea what a huge effort, amount of time and tremendous cost is involved here..You don't just start a TV network overnight..This idea is stupid !
Long Run
This is a long run idea. Obviously there are some large hurdles Ron Paul has faced over the course of his candidacy, and one of the largest has been a general television black out. This candidate and others with similar liberty-based philosophies deserve equal, if not greater, television face time. We can't sit here and just hope it happens, we need to make the word known and get it going.
People who simply poo-poo ideas while offering none of their own are fools.
Do I want people to work on establishing Liberty TV over handing our cards, canvassing, making phone calls or talking to friends and family? OF COURSE NOT. But we are here to brainstorm ideas for Ron Paul and this movement that has grown around his candidacy.
I, for one, do not want to see this thing fizzle after the election. We need to make the movement permanent. One GREAT way to do this is to get our foot in the door in the TV world. This way we don't have to beg for crumbs from the standard media.
Plus it is a potentially money-earning endeavor. The market would surge and the production costs could be pretty low.
Yes, this would take a good amount of money and work, but so does everything that is worth doing...
This is a long run idea
Not something for the next two months.
NEVER
never happen in 2 months, a year maybe
Duh buddy
I was saying this is not something for the next two months.
Why on earth would you come on here and bash this idea? Let's hear some good reasoning.
Too Much
This would take more effort than we could give..Way too involved..a monstrous undertaking...tons of regulations to overcome and all kinds of legal implications..legal fees alone would be prohibitive
The good thing is
Only those who desired being a part would have to be a part. Please take your naysaying and say nay elsewhere, thanks!
Sorry
But your idea is stupid, totally impractical..a pipe dream
Wow
What a douche.
