WOW! House votes to completely defund ACORN Kudos to Hannah, James, Andrew and Glenn

From NBC's Luke Russert
The House, in a motion to recommit attached to the student loan bill, has voted overwhelmingly to de-fund ACORN.
It was a bipartisan vote, with more than 300 members voting for the measure. (We'll get the full numbers/vote breakdown shortly.)
This goes further than the Senate did; the Senate took money out of one bill. This is to de-fund the group completely -- for any money the House would appropriate.
*** UPDATE *** House Minority Whip Eric Cantor's office just sent around this statement:
“ACORN has violated serious federal laws, and today the House voted to ensure that taxpayer dollars would no longer be used to fund this corrupt organization. All federal ties should be severed with ACORN, and the FBI should investigate its activity. This united Republican effort to defund ACORN is a victory for the rule of law and taxpayers across the country.”
*** UPDATE 2 *** The vote was 345-75.
*** UPDATE 3 *** In case anyone cares, student-loan reform (H.R. 3221 - Student Aid and Fiscal Responsibility Act of 2009) also passed, 253-171.

Repeat - Not so fast
The amendment is pasted onto a poison pill - a bill that would turn the whole student loan business over to the US. Note that Ron Paul did not vote on the ACORN amendment.
wow?
and what about the corruption, illegal activity, violence and racketeering?
oh, and how are we NOT going to have ACORN-style operations in govt. owned health care?

For real?
"...the House voted to ensure that taxpayer dollars would no longer be used to fund this corrupt organization."
If these guys were honest this reasoning is sufficient to shut down nearly every government office across the country.
Please...
I am concerned about Torture, the Fed, Civil Liberties, War, devaluation of dollar, unlimited government spending, new Czars and agencies, Carbon tax...
Who cares about some group that pisses off Republicans?
Focus...
If you are a taxpayer and an American you should be pissed off at Acorn. Who cares about Republicans?

What I was trying to point out...
at the bottom of this thread.
I've just not had time to go thru the bill... I will tonight.
Beck?
Why kudos to Glenn Beck? What does he have to do with it? For that matter what scandal has Fox News ever broken? Commie artwork on old buildings? Come on. The ACORN corruption story was broken by two brave and industrious college students with a budget of $3000.
I ammended the title
Thomas Jefferson once said, "The natural progress of things is for liberty to yield and government to gain ground."
Well, I guess he called that one.
A Republic, If You Can Keep It
And Beck has been after ACORN for months
My intention was not to take credit away from the 2 young people who did the videos kudos to them for sure.

A Republic, If You Can Keep It
What did he do besides talk?
What did he do besides talk?
I heard a fill-in host for Lou Dobbs implying that their organization was responsible. The fact is, the mainstream news is just entertainment. That goes for Beck and Dobbs. There was a time when the MSM had real investigative journalists who got outside the studio and worked. No more.
Hooray for the college kids who did it all by themselves. May it be the start of something big.
broken by two brave and industrious college students
* Yes, that is true!

Good news
Continue to end corruption and ridiculous allocation of taxpayer dollars everywhere. This MUST be just a start.

I hope it's just the beginning!

Halliburton admitted to running actual child prostitutes
But they get a pass? I'm not defending ACORN, but geeze.
Gotta bump and comment
I know this is old, but I can't believe no one commented on this. Not to defend ACORN, but the whole hypocrisy of this witch hunt really is amazing. I just caught a few old clips of the Rachel Maddow show on BradBlog and she has some interesting things to say about the unconstitutionality of this defund Acorn bill. According to her, they cannot introduce legislation that will target one group--so technically the bill is unconstitutional. Perhaps this is why Dr. Paul didn't vote on this one.
In the last few days, Maddow has covered different angles from this story, as well--documented on BradBlog. My favorite piece has to do with the hypocrisy of nailing ACORN on talk of child prostitution, while other groups still funded by our government actually used child prostitutes!

Leave it to Fox News to just provide the salacious part of the story and leave out the part that benefits warmongering. Pinheads!!

Nice....
Distraction alert?
people will party about this... ACORN defunded.. woot!
This HR 3221, the Student Aid and Fiscal Responsibility Act of 2009 ... anyone care to read it and figure out just how badly we got screwed on it?
It is technically an amendment to the Higher Education Act of 1965...
{ EDIT } My Thomas link went down... so here is another...

Or we can party on about Acorn losing 1/1000th of its funding....
ACORN was undermining the election process
which is more important than money. It also make their former employee (Obama) look very bad and brings into question his credibility. And yes the bill was a POS.
Thomas Jefferson once said, "The natural progress of things is for liberty to yield and government to gain ground."
Well, I guess he called that one.
A Republic, If You Can Keep It
This bird has flown
Son, the election process was undermined a long time before ACORN got ahold of it.
I'm aware of the Acorn thing...
and I'm also aware that this will lose them no money at all long-term because the same people will do the same stuff under another name.
I'm tickled that it gives the current administration a black eye, yes. I'm happy about the political ramifications as well... it is another straw on the camel's back in the realm of public opinion.
Now, what about 3221... the administration knew the vote was going to be this way, so what did they sneak through? Remember... never let a disaster go to waste...
