I kind of like the idea of the Peace Prize going to Obama

Is he actually peaceful?...maybe not.

But he's much more peaceful than the contrast of McCain or Bush.

Plus it's really getting the neoconservative right whipped up into a tizzy, which is fun to watch.

Gauging the reaction on the right, I am starting to like how this played out more and more. Plus Obama will be less likely to bomb new countries this way.

The Nobel Foundation Has lost all Credibility

The Nobel Foundation, like every other institution in this country, has become corrupt and an abomination to logic, reason, and common sense. The Peace Prize is no more than a cruel joke, and does not have any credibility any longer. Mr. Nobel must be turning in his grave.

"less likely"?

We can wish, but it doesn't seem likely. The bombings continue.

The (ig)Nobel did not seem to assuage the blood-thirsts of Menachem ("King David Hotel") Begin or Yassir ("That's My Baby") Arafat.

The most (remotely) defensible recipient would have to be Theodore ("Lovely Little War") Roosevelt for helping to broker the Russo-Japanese armistice.

I liken Barrio's prize as akin to Linus (who legitimately copped a Nobel a decade earlier for Chemistry) Pauling's and Al (who never legitimately won anything except a few meaningless popular votes) Gore's. They all got it basically because they were already high-profile personalities who were obediently parroting PC BS.

addendum: Please do not infer by the above that I intend to denigrate the name of Linus Pauling, for whom I have enormous respect for his pioneering work in biio-chemistry and genetics. He is truly a champion of reason. And also for the record, again meaning no disrespect, this is why I still consider Maria Sklodowska Curie to be the reigning champion of Nobel achievement. While her two Nobels were shared (respectively with her husband and her daughter) and Pauling's were not, they were both for REAL SCIENCE, and not the goofy and meaningless "peace" prize. And still, as for Brother Linus, my sense of kinship with him extends to a shared Alma Mater, Oregon Agricultural College (although, by the time I attended, it was called Oregon State University).

i just sent off this email to the nobel people

to whom it may concern,

this is to inform you that there is WORLDWIDE disbelief and anger and disgust that you could nominate obama to receive a peace prize. it is circulating all over the internet, what a disgrace it is to give a WARMONGER a price for peace.
altho, it is keeping with tradition is it not of giving awards to people who do NOT deserve them. i truly believe that alfred nobel - the inventor of
dynamite - would dispprove.
and sadly the world is waking up to the FACT that the deadline for nominations was FEBRUARY 1st. let's see that would make it 9 days that
he held office. THAT IS PATHETIC!
people are shaking their heads and watching the nobel peace prize over the years that has become NOTHING to brag about.
so tell me - why? is this one world government accolade to the one world government president?
http://www.lewrockwell.co... - lew rockwell says it best!
the award should be returned and you all should step down.

i didn't stop to think shoud i or shouldn't i or what i should say - i just wrote it.

Define "supreme irony" ---

Define "supreme irony" --- The person who is most likely to start WWIII gets the Nobel Peace Prize..... You are a moron, Invalid101 What are you doing here? Trying to find something good in this situation is like trying to pick up a terd by the clean end.

Hard to believe you could be here for 28 weeks....

...and still think that way.

"...more peaceful than the contrast of McCain or Bush"

Some still don't get it, I guess.

I may not know the truth, but I know when I'm being lied to...

This is that part of the end of days

movie where the villain does something that shows his true colors to one and all. The hero walks into the street with hope only to find the population is repeating Newspeak with all the more fervor, having received their queue that the villain gets to do whatever he wants and call it whatever he wants.

Not really. People are questioning this, but it could easily have gone that way. Maybe the next round of audacity will bring it about.

i don't give a crap who it

i don't give a crap who it goes to. it went to henry kissinger in 1973. that pretty much destroyed the validity of that "prize".

I agree with you

Look at the silver lining.
the now silent anti-war left knows this was a ridiculous award.
They will use it to pressure Obama at every turn. These former supporters know they were lied to.They will be very vocal about it.

The reactions of W T F? Are being heard around the world.
People can't fathom Why he would win.

It's proof of what many of us already know. This award is purely a political popularity contest. And is designed to be a slap in the face towards political adversaries. They went overboard this time. It was bad when Gore got it, but I bet a lot of people thought the next prize would feel a bit more normal. Nope!

Obama is embarrassed, as he should be. He's been partially castrated as a leader. Whispers, snickers, behind his back. I think it's great!

The Power of the award itself has been reduced to nothing. It means nothing now. It might even be considered bad mojo to win this in the future.

Anyway, that's my glass half-full opinion

Yeah, I am sure this prize

Yeah, I am sure this prize will give him a conscious that the new unreleased torture pictures and pictures of all the dead civilians in Iraq and Afghanistan haven't given him.

Huh?

"Plus Obama will be less likely to bomb new countries this way."
How do you figure? Obama has EXPANDED war, EXPANDED Indefinate Detention,EXPANDED Spending (on everything, including the wars) with no end in sight.
He is no better than Bush. Worse actually.
Obama is taking his time "deciding" about troop surge in Afghanistan, but I think it's all for looks. He will definately send many more to war there to kill thousands of Afghan citizens. This is NOT a peacful man, any more than Bush or Mccain.

I'd rather have a bottle in front of me than a frontal lobotomy

Here we go with this again!

What is it with all you people using the copycat line of how you love watching the conservatives get all riled up about this? First, can't you come up with something more original to say? It's like you've all been brainwashed to saying the exact same, nonsensical thing!

Second, don't you people have anything better to do than watch people like Sean Hannity? I mean, suddenly Sean Hannity is WORTH watching? If this were true, maybe one of you hoards of people who suddenly love watching Hannity could tell me precisely what he said that is so amusing that EVERYONE is raving about it.

Go over to Huffington Post and look at the comments under the Obama Peace Prize article if you don't believe me. They all sound exactly like you.

No offense....

Because I dont know you personally and I dont want to judge, but that was a very bad opinion you have... You like the idea of purely political selection of the Nobel Peace Prize? This is less a pro Obama prize and more of an anti Bush prize and of course we are all Anti Bush, but that doesnt mean that Obama is ANY BETTER! What is the freaking difference between Bush and Obama? HONESTLY?! Obama is Bush on steroids!!!! All he has done is take Bush's policies and quadruple them!!! Thats all the idiot, Obama, has done! That and turn us into a stupid internationalist, tree hugging socialists that is supposed to be like the rest of world...

You really believe Obama is any better than McCain or Bush?! At least McCain and Bush would destroy our economy a little slower than Obama has (yet still destroy, but Obama just likes it done faster).

Do you think Obama really deserves to be with the likes of Mother Theresa, Mahatma Gandhi, Martin Luther King Junior, Nelson Mandela, Dalai Lama and the likes?! That makes me sick to compare them when Obama has ACCOMPLISHED NOTHING and the others have accomplished so much.

Again, nothing personal at all. I see your intentions are well, but you should retract this statement, unless you can convince me that I misunderstood you. Thanks for reading.

Ron Paul 2012

I beg to differ.

"You really believe Obama is any better than McCain or Bush?! At least McCain and Bush would destroy our economy a little slower than Obama has (yet still destroy, but Obama just likes it done faster)."

Not to be disrespectful, but you seem to have a very short memory as to total shambles that our country's economic system was ALREADY IN when Obama inherited it from Bush. And, in the vein of playing devil's advocate, the Nobel committee praised Obama's creation of "a new climate in international politics" and said he had returned multilateral diplomacy to the center of the world stage."You have to remember that the world has been in a pretty dangerous phase," commitee member Jagland said. "And anybody who can contribute to getting the world out of this situation deserves a Nobel Peace Prize."

So, do you think....

"Obama deserves a Nobel Peace Prize"? If so, I would like to hear your view of why?

Ron Paul 2012 for Peace

LatinsforPaul

In answer to your question, no - not really, but I am still hopeful that he will earn it, in time, by ending the atrosity of war that his predecessor got us involved in over 8 years ago. Notice how he is not rushing into sending the troops that McCrystal is pushing for. Obama's hands are tied in many ways.. but I believe that, through the grace of God, we will eventually be led towards peace. Please join me in prayer to that end! Prayers for divine guidance for our leaders would definitely take us closer to that than Obama bashing, wouldn't you agree?

I agree in you sentiments...

But, If Obama was really interested in Peace, he would have invited Republican Paul and Democrat Kucinich into his chambers to get their perspective on Afghanistan. Instead Obama invited political power brokers like McCain and others.

About Obama being better than McCain or Bush, I refer to our friend the Southern Avenger:

"Our two greatest threats are terrorism and big government. The Democrats have long loved big government and Obama seems intent on continuing with a Bush-style, interventionist foreign policy. Republicans have decided to fight this president's domestic agenda, but most are lining up to encourage Obama to mimic Bush by turning Afghanistan into his own $3 trillion war. For both our security and debt, limited government must finally be applied both home and abroad. The Democrats are completely wrong, and the Republicans remain at least half-wrong. I'm sorry, but having to choose between the jackass party and the half-assed party is no choice for me."

Ron Paul 2012 for Peace

There are more than one ways

to skin a cat, Latins. Remember the old adage, "Keep your friends close and your enemies closer!"?
I wonder where your Republican friends' outcries against the war were when Bush was in office and pushing HIS evil agenda? But that is in the past and it won't really do us any good to hold on to it now, will it? I just think we should try to have patience with the current administration - at least until it has shown that the current agenda is the same as the past agenda, rather than just the whiplash effect from it.

~ Sherman H. Skolnick

Until the current administration has shown...

...that the current agenda is the same as the past agenda?

Well, when Obama was speaking to the VFW a couple months ago, he gave some pretty good indicators of that.

http://www.washingtonpost...

"By moving forward in Iraq, we're able to refocus on the war against Al Qaida and its extremist allies in Afghanistan and Pakistan..."

"This is a war of necessity. Those who attacked America on 9/11 are plotting to do so again. If left unchecked, the Taliban insurgency will mean an even larger safe haven from which Al Qaida would plot to kill more Americans.

So this is not only a war worth fighting; this is a -- this is fundamental to the defense of our people."

Amerianna, much of Obama's speech reads like he was channeling Bush.

Then why didn't Ron Paul win?

You know, the Liberty, anti-war, prosperity minded, let's talk to our "enemies" guy?
Because it's a political popularity contest.
And the inheritance of bad policy goes well beyond 8 years into the past.

You have a point, Thundercloud.

"And the inheritance of bad policy goes well beyond 8 years into the past."

That's very true. But if this award is really nothing more than a political popularity contest, as you say, then why do we even care enough to discuss it? What difference does it make? It really makes no difference, in the grand scheme of things.. other than to make more and more people realize what a joke it has become - which may lead to more activism and prayer.

On political popularity

Although many of us left that mentality back in high-school.

There are still plenty that will use the award to suspend their own disbelief.
They are still buying Obama's political Sleight of hand.
SO, I like to discuss these things out in the open, hoping someone might read, and then question why they continue to support yet another puppet.

I came in here ready to say about the same thing. but

then I realized
Obama winning the peace prize is only bad if you held the Nobel Prize with any amount of esteem. I did and at first I was offended and disgusted that all the great prior recipients were being cheapened by this mockery. Then I realized something had changed, in recent years the prize was being awarded to more and more questionably deserving people. This final award to Obama was the last straw. The prize use to mean something, now I see it's clearly a political tool and a farse. Any awe I once had is now gone. Its the difference between pre and post steroid baseball. The stats and the game just don't mean much to me anymore. Barry O getting the peace prize is like Barry Bonds getting the homerun title. Neither one earned it. Both will have to live with that asterix by their name and albatross around their neck.

Your points about Obama are correct lordindra3, he is far worse than mccain or bush, and no where near as accomplished as past winners. But I see the point being made by the original post, instead of a badge of honor, this prize is proving to be a mark of shame and is bringing much needed attention to the fact that obama is doing nothing in the way peace, in fact he is heavily engaged in the opposite. That exposure on a worldwide scale, is a good thing. Hopefully it wakes some people up

Hear, Hear!! You are RIGHT ON, IMO!

He will be put in the scoundrels hall of fame with the other recent recipients! This has been going on for years---to the point that when Lech Walesa from Poland was the recipient, I immediately thought, "The news media made him out to be a hero----he must not be if he is given the Nobel Prize!"
Was Mr. Walesa deserving of the "honor"? I never researched him to find out. But I just wanted you to know the perception of the Nobel Peace Prize I had gotten from years of observation and knowing the record of many who received it!

war is peace!

The real menace of our republic is this invisible government which like a giant octopus sprawls its slimy length over city, state and nation. Like the octopus of real life, it operates under cover of a self created screen....At the head of this octopus are the Rockefeller Standard Oil interests and a small group of powerful banking houses generally referred to as international bankers. The little coterie of powerful international bankers virtually run the United States government for their own selfish purposes. They practically control both political parties.

These international bankers and Rockefeller-Standard Oil interests control the majority of the newspapers and magazines in this country. They use the columns of these papers to club into submission or drive out of office public officials who refuse to do the bidding of the powerful corrupt cliques which compose the invisible government. It operates under cover of a self-created screen [and] seizes our executive officers, legislative bodies, schools, courts, newspapers and every agency created for the public protection.

When Al Gore

was awarded the peace prize I thought the Nobel committee had lost its collective mind.

Today's award removed all doubt.

Threw Obama for a loop too, I think.

I read somewhere here, we, the RP people are the only antiwar people left. I think that's true. Pretty sad. But I won't stand down, even if I stand alone.

Yeah- its like giving Miley Cyrus sainthood

Even the diehard fans have to say ; "...well...she's not THAT talented".
I laugh at the polls though. It reflects the voting block. People think that because they voted for him that they have to say "yeah- he did too deserve the Nobel Peace Prize!"
Not an objective bone in their body. They could shock everyone and say "America's Next Top Model is...Barak Obama!" and 47% of those polled would say he deserved it- and of those, 38% would call you a racist if you disagree.

I like it a lot because even though it is total complete BS...

...Obama is now even more in the spotlight when he does not live up to the expectation. Therefore he has to actually think about the hypocrisy of his actions or be chastised even more by his grassroots minions.

This will be a wake-up event for many dooped Demopublicans over time and help the CFL membership drive membership. Mark my words.

It also shows that anyone can win one of these prizes; and that means the organization that is giving the prize is not at all credible.

Kind of like the NRA promoting F- rated McCain on the 2nd Amendment. I will never give money to them when I can give it to people like Rand Paul and Debra Medina and actually feel good about it.

And Rand Paul doesn't bombard my email address with insurance ads like the NRA.

The Israeli lobby has been had.

It will be interesting if they can get Obama in line to attack Iran. What will Israel do to Norway in retaliation? LOL

The Israel Lobby has the goods on all their puppets.

That's how they got there.
I suspect there are several other Larry Sinclairs that could be "discovered" overnight which would turn this admin on it's ear.
Look around the net, Obama is seen by many as the first jewish president due to his loyalty to AIPAC.

Good point...

I never thought of it that way. How could a peace prize winner go and bomb Iran? The spin will be worth the watch-my guess is that he will end up turning it down so that he can bomb Iran. From what I understand, protocol is for the winner to donate the $$$ back to the committee. Will he do the same???

all the

All the major bombing and invasion decisions rest with Obama and the committee knows that.

Some say Jimmy Carter was the least evil president with regard to foreign policy.

Maybe this will sway Obama.

I think its a great irony,

that will be revealed when Obama attacks Iran, and eventually North Korea, and Venezuela.

total joke.

I think it shows the world

I think it shows the world that the nobel peace prize means absolutely nothing,
