Washington D.C. October 20, 2009 -Today, Senators Jeff Merkley (D-OR) and Bob Corker (R-TN) introduced the Federal Reserve Accountability Act, an attempted compromise on the issue of transparency for America's secretive central bank. The bill would permit an audit of the Fed's actions in the Troubled Asset Relief Program (TARP) and similar high profile bailouts, but would not allow Congress to review the Fed's inflation of the money supply or the its agreements with foreign central banks.
Legislation that would bring a full audit of the Fed, Congressman Ron Paul's H.R. 1207 and its Senate companion S. 604, has gained strong grassroots support and built tremendous pressure on banking special interests.
Opponents of Fed Transparency argue that a full audit of the Federal Reserve would damage the central bank's "independence" and allow Congress to dictate monetary policy.
"Claims that transparency at the Federal Reserve would leave Congress in charge of monetary policy are simply bogus," said Jesse Benton, Senior Vice President of Campaign for Liberty. "There is absolutely no reason why The American People should not be able to review the minutes of the Federal Open Market Committee after a reasonable amount of time has passed."
"The Federal Reserve Accountability Act does not audit the monetary policy functions which have been responsible for our deteriorating dollar and so many of our current economic problems, and it is not an acceptable piece of legislation. Campaign for Liberty will continue to push for a full audit of the Fed."
The announcement of the new legislation comes after the number of cosponsors in the House of Representatives for H.R. 1207 recently climbed to 303, and S. 604 gained 30 senate cosponsors. Campaign for Liberty has been leading the grassroots effort on H.R .1207, getting it to its current point with 75% of Americans showing support for a thorough audit of the Federal Reserve.

My message to both senators:
My message to both senators: Please withdraw the Federal Reserve Accountability Act and support S.604 instead. Otherwise you are screwing over the entire country.
Here's MY compromise: Let's
Here's MY compromise: Let's just abolish the Federal Reserve. Why bother to audit them. Let's start pushing for doing away with the Federal Reserve.
I am tired of playing their games. We all know that the Federal Reserve has been stealing our wealth for almost a century. It's well past time to get rid of it and return to the gold standard. To do otherwise is to perpetuate a criminal scam.
ABOLISH THE FEDERAL RESERVE.
Call and askm' why they're protecting the FED??
What do they have to hide?

I just visited
Corker's website.
I noticed something different immediately.
Back during the bailouts, he had a banner up claiming his advocacy of "fiscal responsibility".
I sent several emails blistering him about his hypocrisy about claiming to support fiscal responsibility, and voting for the bailouts.
I told him that with voting like that, he has no grounds to claim "fiscal responsibility".
Now I go there today, a year later, and the banner about fiscal responsibility is gone.
Apparently, he's simply abdicated any pretenses being fiscally responsible now.
He's just a banker's tool. And they are using him because he was elected in 2006, and has several years to wait before his election comes up again.
That way, people can forget what he did.
NOT!
Edit:
Oh! And on further looking, he has a "policy points" page which mentions fiscal responsibility, and on that page he says this:
"I'm a strong believer in pursuing appropriate fiscal and economic policy, rooted in free market principles, with a strong focus on getting the federal government’s spending under control, lowering taxes and reducing the deficit.” - Senator Bob Corker
For a "strong believer", he sure doesn't try to legislate that way.
Lying thru his teeth.

email to Corker
(Unfortunately, I am a constituent of Sen. Corker. Here is my email to him. It was not easy to tone it down to this.)
Senator Corker,
There are only two possibilities: either you do not understand free-market economics and government's responsibility to protect individual liberties, or you do not care when you violate these most sacred principles upon which our nation and government was founded.
You ignored your constituents who overwhelmingly were against the bailouts. To find that amount of agreement among Americans is simply astounding, and yet you thought you were wiser than all of us. Or perhaps you were simply doing the bidding of those in Treasury and friends on Wall Street. Either way, I personally warned you what would happen to our economy, and that there would be no accountability for the monies stolen from us taxpayers. This has indeed come to pass.
And now that Congressman Paul has introduced H.R. 1207 (the companion bill in the Senate being S. 604), and garnered over 75% national support, you seek to pull the rug out by introducing a weaker "Federal Reserve Accountability Act."
Again, there are only two choices: either you are attempting to act as a steam valve and release the public tension over their demands for Fed accountability, or you actually believe the nonsensical claim that S. 604 would harm the Fed's so-called independence from the political arena.
To claim the Fed operates independently of political pressure is perhaps the most ridiculous claim you could make. It has never fulfilled its stated mission and exists only to allow irresponsible politicians to fund projects they never had the constitutional authority to promise--but which conveniently got them elected.
Americans want an honest, stable, money supply. The Fed cannot provide this, for its only tools are based in fraud and are reactionary. It cannot keep up with a free-market (or even the remnants of the free-market which we have in this country).
Because of the irresponsibility of you and your colleagues, our economy will continue to decline, job losses will increase and production will decrease, GDP will decrease, and tax revenues from business will continue to decrease.
I understand much of this was in place before you took office, but the least you could have done is act to correct it rather than accelerate it. If you learn one thing through the mess you have helped along, understand that an honest system of money (tied to a stable commodity) is the foundation for a healthy economy. Our economy is based on fiat dollars, and the people are finally waking up to that fact. When the dollar is destroyed in the next few months and years, I hope you realize the role you played and the harm you did to your constituents.
So please, retract the non-accountability Fed Accountability Act and support something with teeth (S. 604).
