I inquired
with my family doctor about how they were confirming swine flu cases and he said there was only one hospital in the area that had the actual test to confirm it and there was a test kit that some smaller doctors could get but it was very innaccurate. Most people who are claiming to have swine flu do not have it. His office is very busy and they have had one possible case where the patient claimed he had been exposed to a relative that had been confirmed but they don't think it was swine flu or even seasonal flu. Just a virus. There are alot of nasty little viruses going around. There are very few cases actually confirmed. The majority of people don't go to the only hospital that has the actual test.
So if the hype hadn't been there...
Would the H1N1 figures have been overestimated?
My guess is...NO.
My daughter went to the doctor last week and was diagnosed with flu. I asked her if there was a test done confirming that and she said no. I asked if anything was being sent out for testing and she said no.
Glad they didn't categorize her in the swine flu group if she wasn't, but 1) how did they know she didn't have it, and 2) with all the talk of pandemic and emergency and such, wouldn't someone want to keep track of the outbreaks?
