Grayson v. Broun on the Constitution - EMBARRASING!
This is Rep. Alan Grayson and Rep. Paul Broun discussing a bill to deny funds to one specific named organization in a Science and Technology markup. Such a bill is known as 'a bill of attainder'.

Wonderful rhetoric
But Grayson is not defending the Constitution, he is simply wielding it has a weapon to slay an enemy. There's a big difference. These people are like children throwing rocks at each other. The constitution is the pile rocks.
Does anyone here know
Does anyone here know exactly why Grayson thinks the bill is a bill of attainder?
I find it highly unlikely that Grayson would think a bill that merely reduces funding for a government program is a bill of attainder.
There must be some language in the bill that makes it a bill of attainder.
Would the gentleman from Florida Mr. Grayson please point to the
Would the gentleman from Florida Mr. Grayson please point to the clause in the Constitution which mandates federal health care?
A Republic, If You Can Keep It
lol
Are you serious? Are you serious? The interstate commerce caluse, duh...silly.
Question for Grayson
Hey Grayson,
Where in the CONSTITUTION does it enumerate the power for the federal government to take over the health care system and mandate insurance?
He is a fraud.
Still like how he grilled Barry Alvarez, though.
Grayson = Harvard Socialist
You people are getting mesmerized by Grayson's occassional deference to the constitution. He IS A SOCIALIST! He supports public option. He supports the takeover of the banking system.
He is the typical Ivy League, social-democrat occassionally using the constitution when it supports HIS socialist agenda.
WAKE UP!
Greyson is someone to watch, and more than him
I KNOW the independent voter registration is booming, and part of this is because of Greyson, who I'm going to bet, will capitalize on it, by making an Indy run.
Here's one man behind Greyson, and this man has a BIG future awaiting him. http://en.wikipedia.org/w...
Bill Hillsman http://www.myleftnutmeg.c...
BINGO http://www.prnewswire.com...
If we want to win, this is how we do it. Someone is going to capitalize on this BIG TIME and I hope it's us... This is exciting for a number of people..I know. Ralph Nader, Jesse Ventura... for two.
Grayson is wrong.
I agree with what Grayson said about bills of attainder. However, if, for example, the government is funding 100 organizations and then decides to defund one of them, that is not a bill of attainder. It is not a punishment. It is the withholding of tax dollars that it has no authority to transfer in the first place. The other 99 orgs. should be defunded too.
i kind of agree. simply
i kind of agree. simply defunding them is not a bill of attainder. if he were throwing them all in jail, it would be different. but the defunding should happen to all of them, all at once. otherwise, the image of a bill of attainder is there. so, grayson is not one hundred percent wrong.
Bump!

Has the FED ever tried to manipulate the stock market?
Rep. Grayson is questioning FED General Counsel Scott Alvarez ... this needs to go viral again!

Be leary of Grayson
Watch him carefully....the media seems to like him a little too much.
Good Eye Kid
Octobox
I like him a little too much
Because, like Dennis Kucinich, he believes in many of the same things we do.
I would like to know what is the "specific named organization"
and why do they want to deny funds. Grayson may be blocking something important. Does anyone know?
my guess would be Acorn.
my guess would be Acorn.
Grayson is a socialist. Just
Grayson is a socialist. Just because he's jumped on the Fed Audit bandwagon, doesn't mean he is a friend of liberty. My .02.
It is my opinion,
That Grayson is fighting for the Constitution.
Reach across the aisle.
We are all americans.
I agree with you on Grayson
He is a bulldog on the Fed. I don't think he's a bandwagon jumper.
Here's a long article on him in Vanity Fair:
http://www.vanityfair.com...
I didn't read the whole thing, but I count him as one of the good guys.
We're building a coalition here, and the most important thing we can do is get rid of the Fed, at this moment in time.
Right
If we seek ideological purity in all of our allies, we will continue to watch our nation erode.
Don't be to quick to fall
Don't be to quick to fall all over Grayson as he seems to tow the line on most everything except in part, the Fed.
Check this one out and at end you'll find link to votes including AYE on dear Mr. Grayson:
Democrats Vote To Give ACORN Regulatory Authority Over Financial Institutions
WASHINGTON - During consideration of H.R. 3126, legislation to establish a Consumer Financial Protection Agency (CFPA), Democrats on the House Financial Services Committee voted to pass an amendment offered by Rep. Maxine Waters (D-CA) that will make ACORN eligible to play a role in setting regulations for financial institutions.......The amendment passed on a vote to 35-33...

You are so correct -
Grayson voting yes on this amendment is just scummy!
ouch
that was awesome.
somebody knows the Constitution.
I want to think Grayson is
I want to think Grayson is sincere about becoming Ron Paul Jr. but he loses all credibility when it comes to the "healthcare" bill.
I am definitely not a liberal...
but Grayson and Kucinich are the type of Progressives that we are going to need to push an anti war Liberty candidate like Dr. Paul in 2012
Ron Paul 2012 for Peace
War..
Anybody know what Grayson's position is on the War(s) and
Foreign Policy?
UPDATE:
I found these clips.... I would absolutely say he wants an end to both wars.
http://www.youtube.com/wa...
http://www.youtube.com/wa...
http://www.youtube.com/wa...
Check his speeches & interviews
Grayson is definitely against unjust and undeclared war. He just said in an interview with bill maher that he was against the Iraq war and the Afghan war. He has a stance similar to RP that we should just leave them alone.
If we want to save the constitution...
Then Alan Grayson is exactly the kind of progressive we need to make alliances with. That's not to say that we should agree with him on everything, but that we need to bring our troops home and protect our civil liberties, we can all agree on that.
Here Here!
I agree, don't agree all the time but he is pretty solid on his understanding about the Constitution, and I think we've all been a little spoiled with Ron Paul and have to compromise in some areas and leave them to debate for future dates but on a lot of the big issues we are working on he is hand and hand with us!
I believe Grayson is a Democrat.
but no worries, he is fighting for the Constitution.
But
How is the healthcare bill he so strongly supports constitutional? How is giving ACORN tax payer money constitutional? He is smart. Very Smart.
But is it just when he wants to be? I would love to have hime as an attorney but I would not want him to be a prosecutor if I was on trial and innoccent. If you get my drift. I can't figure him out. I think he is smart enough to be dangerous if he is not on your side.
only selectively, since he
only selectively, since he apparently does not understand the enumerated powers aspect of it. At least he follows the clear restrictions, though. Republicans seem to ignore the clear restrictions and pay lip service to the enumerated powers.
huh?
....I voted for a Republican with a 30+ year record of voting in-line with the Constitution. I know of NO Democrat with a record like that.
Anybody who brings up party politics is an ignorant twit...All representatives should be looked at as individuals with an oath to uphold the Constitution. If the individual representative can't uphold his oath then he should never have took it and needs to be relieved of office immediately. There is no difference between the Republican and Democratic parties!
allegiances?
The American People need to make allegiance with the Bill of Rights and Our Constitution rather than their political parties! !
Absolutely agree
I am so fed up with both parties' candidates that toe the party line! I just want to see fewer legislators ignoring/destroying our Constitution. That's the intellectual dilemma I face with Grayson-I don't see how he can throw his lot in with the Health Care bill.
Each party has a preferred
Each party has a preferred method of violating the Constitution.
Exactly...
...and that's why it's important to drop the Party politics and to start looking at the individual.
couldnt agree more. I would
couldnt agree more. I would vote for Grayson.
Occassionally
.
we need
alot more of this type of questioning
+1
That is how you use Roberts Rules.
