The $50 Lesson

The $50 Lesson

I recently asked my friends' little girl what she wanted to be when she grows up. She said she wanted to be President of the United States. Both of her parents, liberal Democrats, were standing there. So I asked her, "If you were President, what would be the first thing you would do?" She replied, "I'd give food and houses to all the homeless people." Her parents beamed.

"Wow...what a worthy goal," I told her. "But you don't have to wait until you're President to do that. You can come over to my house and mow the lawn, pull weeds, and sweep my driveway, and I'll pay you $50. Then I'll take you over to the grocery store where the homeless guy hangs out, and you can give him the $50 to use toward food and a new house."

She thought that over for a few seconds, then she looked me straight in the eye and asked, "Why doesn't the homeless guy come over and do the work, and you can just pay him the $50?"

I said, "Welcome to what use to be the Republican Party."

Her parents still aren't speaking to me. (Made my day)!

Ralph, this is such a great story,

Could I post it on my Facebook account ?.. it's my best newspaper ever and no, I don't care anymore, they probably know more about me than I will ever know about myself :)

Not much of a lesson

I am neither Democrat nor Republican but with a Libertarian bias. As much as this story is a glowing review of the Republican's main difference from Democrats, this nice little story is misleading. It doesn't matter which political party you belong to. Even tho this story wants you to think that the Republicans are against stealing your money and giving it to someone else, it misses the entire point of people being "governed". Democrat or Republican is a divide and conquer mindset. Divide the people into two different camps and they will be easier to rule. Let them have the "elections" and swing from one political party to the other each election cycle depending on how much the president of that political party screwed up during his reign. Do we need to be reminded under which political party was in power when a possible false flag operation was carried out in the US? Do we need to be reminded that under the Republicans, the US went to war with false pretenses and those trillions of dollars were spent for nothing? How about the pork stuffed into legislation that both party members dont even bother to read? Sure they can get up on the podium and pound the stand and shout a few grievances, but nothing ever changes. The Democrats and Republicans are two sides of the same coin. If you do some homework, you will see the wizard behind the curtain and who is pulling the levers. Do some research and realize that the two political system in the US is a shell game.

I agree

The story needs a better punch line.

and...

I will name a few things and you tell me if Republicans are better than Democrats...

*Patriot Act
*No WMDs
*Rendition
*Abu Ghraib
*Homeland Security
*Fema
*Handling of Katrina aftermath
*Letting TSA go through your luggage and taking your shoes off at airports (babies and seniors have to do so as well)

the list goes on, it just depends on when you wake up, hopefully not too late...the revolution or the slow (or quick) devaluation of the dollar will not be televised...

maybe we should say this is

maybe we should say this is the way the Republican party needs to get back to its roots....

A prudent man foresees the difficulties ahead and prepares for them; the simpleton goes blindly on and suffers the consequences. Proverbs 22:3

Maybe we should say this:

GOP RIP

Earning one's way and the GOP

"Welcome to the Republican Party"???

The GOP has reservations about giving other people's money to the homeless, but they have no reservations about being generous with the money of hard working taxpayers, giving it away to destructive Pharmatoxin and Agritoxin corporate oligopolies, Energy conglomerates like Enron and Haliburton and their like have also been recipients of GOP largesse. Banksters like Goldman Sachs, Lehman Brothers, and Chase Manhattan (Okay, Democrats are equally guilty there), and sundry military thugs like Blackwater, Boeing, and Dow along with their overseas counterparts are allowed, even encouraged, to be pigs slopping away at the government trough, courtesy of the GOP.

Like the Dems, they are also extraordinarily generous with other people's money when it comes to funding the FBI, CIA, NSA, "Homeland Security" and the rest of the criminal element of our society.

Encouraging self-reliance is a worthy and necessary goal if our economy and country are to survive! But using the Republican party as an example of this is altogether wrong.

One should also mention here that the GOP has been almost as aggressive in promoting licensing, minimum wage, child labor prohibition and other interventions as have Democrats, thus cutting any opportunities for upward mobility away from the very people who could least afford them.

PEACE AND FREEDOM!!

priceless

priceless

hahaha

Who are you and why aren't you my facebook friend?

Probably because, like many of us...

....we don't want the govt. knowing too much about us.

exactly!

But thanks for the kind offer!

I liked this so much...

I am still laughing, May I share the story on my fb page, giving you all the credit obviously. Thank you so much, you made my day!

Nice story. Thanks for

Nice story. Thanks for sharing it with us.

That IS funny

I've been getting this story in my inbox for weeks.
Here's one link
http://www.nerepublican.c...
and another
http://myrightwingdad.blo...

This is not an 'original' story.

Correct

I clarified that in a post below!

Great story

Unfortuantly this isnt the republican party any longer except Ron Paul. Time to head away from both these parties and make it a third party next time around. The others are bought and paid for.

All the Parties are paid for...

How about we get rid of the completely useless Party system..period? I look at the individual .... I will vote for Ron Paul in Nov 2011 because he is the best candidate for President. I wouldn't care if RP joined the Nazi Party, I'd still vote for him. I find that people that bring up Party politics are just ignorant red team/ blue team cheerleaders that have no morals, intelligence, or integrity.

Funny!

Shared it with the wife and all the kids.

Thats funny

but why the Republican party, what about the Constitution or Libertarian party?

How about the GOOOH party!

Don't know what it is? Check it out! Hurry! Go to goooh.com and be enlightened. Get out of our House is the first unified, non-partican political system designed for a massive conservative win in 2010. Check it out and register!

Most people have heard of

Most people have heard of the Republican Party I can't say the same for those other 2. After all the Republicans have actually elected Presidents, Senators, Congressman and Governors while the other 2 have not.

Nice anecdote: though the punchline needs updating...

The part about the parents being Liberal Democrats messes up the connection, as the whole story hinges on the false dichotomy of Dem vs Rep. This part need to be changed or amended, so as to establish a new connection - perhaps "Both of her parents, liberal Democrats, who believe in a welfare state. .." or similar. The addition of "who believe in a welfare state" would supply a new connection to tie-in a new punchline.

"Welcome to Capitalism"
- this is the best fit for meaning... but for some reason it just doesn't sound so poetic.

One could go a different route altogether...
"So now you see the folly of Socialism"

- perhaps?

or a little softer...
"So now you see the folly of the Welfare State"

...hmm.

It would be a fun "contest" for us to come up with the best updated punchline !!

“Always vote for principle, though you may vote alone, and you may cherish the sweetest reflection that your vote is never lost.” -- John Quincy Adams

Right on

The parents should be called socialists, being it's good enough for Obama, and the child should be welcomed to capitalism.

Republican party?

...

Right....I agree it needs a new punch line.

We all know the punch line doesn't make sense. How about: "Welcome to Capitalism" or "Welcome to America"?

www.libertyrestorationpro...
"We are the inheritors of the American Enlightenment, which tells us that Individual Liberty always trumps collectivism in all forms."

That is

Priceless.

excellent

Thanks for reposting this illustrative anecdote. It's classic.

That little anecdote really needs to go viral.

Thank you for that.

WAHOR!!
http://www.dailypaul.com/...

Funnier still is that you continue to see the difference...

...between Dems and Repubs....

I may not know the truth, but I know when I'm being lied to...

I can see the difference between Republicans and Democrats

Ron Paul, Peter Schiff, Rand Paul, Barry Goldwater, and Ronald Reagan are Republicans. Barrack Obama, Chris Dodd, Lyndon Johnson, Harry Reid and Nancy Pelosi are Democrats. I admit there are exceptions that blur the differences but I think any one that cares to can see the differences.

Someone hit the snooze button when they were 'waking up'...

Parties are not people.

I may not know the truth, but I know when I'm being lied to...

"The difference"

Ron Paul, Goldwater (Rand..) talks about we the people, who witnessed corporations censor RP during the election to control us. The others you mentioned, work for corporations, not us. GOP could be coke, Democrats Pepsi.. Sure there's a difference between coke and pepsi. I can taste it too. I want water. RP is water, a real choice by comparison.

Goldwater and Schiff work

Goldwater and Schiff work for corporations and not us? Never mind the only point I was making was that there was a difference. On that you agree with me.

Let's ask Joe Lieberman

;))

Now that is funny.

Now that is funny.

good stuff

good stuff

Love it! Thanks for posting

Love it! Thanks for posting this!

hysterical

I laughed out loud!!

Tucking that into my intellectual toolbox

That was an awesome way to teach a kid conservatism. Looks like the parents were too dumb to learn the lesson.

good one!

That is a hoot.

HAHAHAHA, well done, well

HAHAHAHA, well done, well done. That just made my crappy day so much better, thanks.

ROFL!!

That is great! If that conversation stays in her head more than a day, you may have actually had an influence.

Love it!

Except the part about "Welcome to the Republican party."

Indeed

The Republicrats all believe in redistribution of the wealth.

There aren't very many Congressmen today on either side of the aisle who believe in Constitutional government and where the individual is responsible.

This type of joke, while funny, unfortunately goes a long way to perpetuating the myth that the Republicans are different from the Democrats.

Save Ron Paul, and just a few others, they are the same animal.

roger that

Better the Constitarians or the Libertutionists than the Demoblicans.

Can't we get a better punch line?

I'm trying to think of one.

"Welcome...

... to the r3VO_]ution!"

Good thinkin', Professor.

:)
