there are so many great suggestions here, but I do have one more. Lots of fresh air, exercise and sunshine will stimulate the appetite and will also help him sleep better too. And that in turn will help build up the immune system. Good luck! :)
First let me state that I am not a Doctor. This is just my story and how we overcame it. You must research any course of action you choose to take, as ultimately the responsibility must fall on yourself...
When my son was 3 and started day care, he was sick for 11 months straight, with the occasional week reprieve. I am not one to run to the Dr. for every complaint. But try as I might to avoid it, every other week I was forced to go to the Dr. because he would have high fevers, complain of pain in his ears, couldn't stop vomiting or just couldn't seem to kick something.
Each visit would end in the same result... Antibiotics. He was on antibiotics 1-2 times EACH month during this ordeal! They even had to resort to switching up the antibiotics...
At the end of the 11th month, God answered my prayers though my mother. She had just started working at a vitamin store and had to take a course in nutrition and supplements in order to perform her job well. She told me she had been learning many things and was convinced she could help him. I very gratefully gave my consent.
She first gave him a PRObiotic to take daily and explained to me that there are good AND bad bacteria. In layman's terms, if you can get more "good" guys in your body than "bad" guys they will actually fight off the bad bacteria. She went on to explain that ANTI-biotics KILL ALL your bacteria just when you need the "good" guys the most. I am completely convinced, at this point in time, that this WAS THE REASON for his vicious cycle. His body was left defenseless due to all the antibiotics.
She next gave him a milti-vitamin and some colostrum (the first milk secreted by a mammal after giving birth). Colostrum is extremely efficient in battling viruses and infections because it is loaded with immune agents and powerful growth factors.
We then found OIL OF OREGANO and I tell anyone who will listen what a godsend it is! It tastes horrible but I find that putting a drop in a small amount of OJ helps and have even successfully given it to a 1 year old with this trick.
My son has never, NOT ONCE, been on antibiotics, since that wonderful day I listened to my Mommy... Smile. He is now almost 11. He virtually never gets sick. In fact he has only been to the Dr. (other than a physical) once since that day, at the age of 5 when he had a bad stomach virus and we were worried about dehydration.
So my advice is this: If you do nothing else, get him on a good probiotic. My sister in law found a completely pure infant powder mix, that she mixes in with my nieces juice, at a natural food store. The price seemed high at first but you use it in such small amounts that she says it lasts about 3 months...
Research oil of oregano, colostrum, nano-silver, and basically any other alternative medicine (I am sure the posts here will keep you busy). READ READ READ...
Also, as far as not eating, nobody has an appetite when they don't feel well. I would guess that problem will remedy itself with the alleviation of the other. Until then tell her not to give him anything to drink until AFTER he eats, toddlers are know to drink till they are full...
PS- As my mother is an avid DPer, if you read this Mom, "I thank God for you everyday!"
I would be glad to get you into contact with her for more info, just know that she is not a Dr. and can only give her opinion. Not sure how to do this as I have never contact/ been contacted on this site maybe click on my name and send a personal message with an email???
Update us celeste as to the little ones progress and my prayers are with you and your family...
You may want to look into the dr's office and test for allergies, Crohn's disease, Bowel Blockage, etc...
I noticed that with my son, if I added a powdered supplement to his morning milk, he would not be hungry until the evening time.
You mentioned he/she hates the chair. I would recommend playing a game in a different setting with various foods. If all else fails... chicken nuggets and applesauce seems to always work, unfortunately.
After confirming that there is not an inherent danger resulting from a medical condition I would recommend allowing the child to get hungry. It can sound cruel, but the truth of the matter is that at some point in time an organism will choose to nourish itself when it is in need of nourishment.
When my son consistently through temper tantrums because I refused to give him chefboyardee, I would give in to him. Eventually, I figured it out.
I know that all children are different, but this worked with my son(I did this when he was two, he is now 4):
There is a difference between discipline and punishment. Allowing a child to eat at appropriate time with appropriate foods is discipline.
I would only let him eat for dinner the same healthy food that I would eat for dinner. If he chose not to eat it, then I would allow him access to that food only throughout the rest of the night. Within a couple of turbulent weeks, he figured it out. If he ate the same dinner @ dinner time, then he was able to eat a snack or treat later in the night. Be it a yogurt, sherbert, popcorn w/movie, etc.. Also, I have him help me cook dinner every night. He is more apt to eat what he helps create than chef boy ardee. Just take appropriate precautions of course.
and one article about the prevalence and treatment of autism said that autistic children very often also had bowel problems. The article was connecting the autism/bowel problems to the vaccinations and the adjuvants added to the vaccines. I am not suggesting the child is autistic, but if there is a connection at all, the bowel or stomach problems could be a side effect that they haven't researched.
I would suggest probiotics if it is bowel or stomach problems. But I also think a visit to a pediatrician that was interested in nutrition and did not have a problem with natural remedies would be a good idea.
A toddler can pick up on parents/grandparents being anxious about their eating habits and this can cause the problem to get worse! It is very important to not make a big deal out of it!
I know there are a few books out about handling eating disorders (not eating or a very limited diet--won't eat anything but peanut butter sandwiches, for instance) I would suggest checking out these books.
In the meantime---provide wholesome food and snacks---don't make a big deal of the not eating---put the wholesome snacks where he/she can access them without getting up to the table.
Does he have a sore throat or mouth sore that hurts when he eats?...
Maybe the iron in the gummy bear is making him constipated?
Do they give him the gummy bear at daycare? (I wouldn't let them.)
Perhaps the starting of day care is influencing his lack of appetite... maybe it's separation emotion... maybe something is happening at day care to cause this behavior or aversion to meal time?....
Starting daycare can expose a child to a large host of viruses and sicknesses all at one time.. he might just be catching every single thing that goes around because he hasn't been exposed yet.
Like the other posters have said, food allergies are very common... you could take one type of food out of the diet at a time and see if it improves..
Are there any foods he is always happy to eat? Does he ever have a good appetite? Does he snack a lot throughout the day? If so, he might not be hungry at meal time. Some toddlers need to eat more frequently throughout the day, smaller portions...
Sorry to run on and on... but I would have him examined to make sure there isn't an obvious medical cause... Good luck and God Bless your little grandbaby!
I agree with one of the posters below. Probiotics are very important for children. Most have very poor gut flora. SwansonVitamins is the most reasonable place to buy very high quality supplements and foods. They sell a few things I could recommend.

post on this topic. I have just started taking organic slippery elm bark powder. You can make it into a gruel as thin as you like to mix in with his food. It is said to be soothing and healing for the entire digestive tract.
Mix a little water in a cup with a teaspoon of the powder into a smooth paste. Boil a cup to a pint of water and slowly stir it in with the paste and then let set for a few minutes while the powder expands. You can mix in a little cinnamon or nutmeg if you like or use it as a base for other preparations. I've just started using it so I haven't experimented very much.
Something to watch out for: When you purchase it look for organic slipper elm bark "powder" from a reputable company at your health food store. Some companies pass off a product called slippery elm bark "food" to which they have added flour. I bought my slippery elm bark powder in bulk at a health food store.
of the food co-ops for over 20 years now. I stay away from company's who are marketing this as a food or a 'product'.
I agree get it raw and cheap. I have always mixed Slippery Elm with Echinacea and Astragalus roots simmered for about 15 minutes to extract the medicine from these. A tablespoon each to 4 cups of spring or distilled water is great. I usually add a couple drops of cayenne tincture if there are lung issues.
Never fails to soothe a congested child or adult. While working at cleansing intestinal track with Bentonite Clay/psyllium husk powder and apple juice. Then taking pro-biotics to replenish intestinal flora. Do all this for a week. but should be good as new in a day or two.
Lyme and related tick-borne illnesses can cause stomachaches. Just something to be aware of.
Samento is something to consider, a friend of mine had severe chronic Lyme and claims that she cured it almost single-handedly with Samento. I use it for my own children who had acute Lyme, just for added protection, since relapses are common. http://www.newswithviews....
Samento is actually recommended for a broad range of health problems.
Was your daughter's pregnancy term and uncomplicated? Is his diet/what he does eat healthy? Sleep quality?
It is the time of year for illnesses to occur and may be normal.
Is he in a daycare or at home?
There are many potential reasons for this to be happening.
He seems thin to me. He cries when its time to get in his chair and eat. I know toddlers are difficult at this age. I just know hes not getting enough nutrients out of the little bit of "food" hes getting fed. None of them are for that matter. And he just started day care a couple days a week. They give him a childrens gummy worm vitamin but I have to wonder if theres anything of value in it.
I will look into all your information. Thank you for taking the time to respond. I came here before for advise on his ear infections. Mullein oil was recommended. Not only did it work but he hasn't gotten one since!
My brother, the A blood type, got chronic ear infections. I recall how distressed my mom was. Finally, our doctor took him off cow's milk, and put him on goat's milk. This solved the problem.
It was many years later that I found out in EAT RIGHT 4 YOUR TYPE, why that worked. (See my post.)
Incidentally, O's don't do particularly well with cow's milk, either.
I used to have chronic stomach problems and stomach acid tell I started drinking goat milk.Naturely grown near the area that you live also bee honey that is derived from the area you live will help build up the immune system.
Babies are born without anti-bodies to other blood types, and without the ability to digest many foods. Yet, somehow, by the time they're a year old, they have the anti-bodies even though they've never been exposed to other blood types.
This is because some foods (proteins) are similar to and provoke the same immune response as blood.
Get "Eat Right For Your Baby" or "Eat Right for Your Type" and follow the advice for the baby's blood type.
My parents were O and AB, and we kids were three B's and an A. The A was always sick. My mother was in dispair.
Now I know why. A's don't digest cow's milk or meat very well. A's are happy campers as vegetarians and have problems eating meat. O's on the other hand can't digest grains, especially wheat and corn, very well. (Actually, corn is pretty bad for everyone.)
B's do fine on dairy, most others don't. (Dairy industry marketing notwithstanding.)
Trust the toddler. Don't force him to eat anything he doesn't want to eat. Most toddlers have a better idea of what to eat than their parents do.
Go to DAdamo.com find http://www.dadamo.com/typ... and you can look up foods individually. Incidentally, this is why I don't trust government to tell me what to eat. I'm a B, and not in the majority!
I never knew this. I'm so glad I scrolled the thread and found your post IMissLiberty!!!
I totaly believe this. I am a type A blood and as a kid, the smell of meat and eggs repulsed me, fish.. too, I will admit, I liked bacon ;)) But I also had a problem with some starches, peanuts. I learned real fast when I was young that I don't handle alcohol.. one drink and I'm the life of the party. Two drinks, I'm drunk. I can't handle alcohol (one of the reasons I came to find myself on the fringe of society was society LOVES to drink and I'm limited, by blood, so I was "no fun")
Thank you for posting this.
And to celeste, I think IMissLiberty is right. My Mom and Dad are O's, love meat and potatoes, not rice, unlike me, I love all likds of grains and legumes (but peanuts, which I like, but I can't handle them well).. My Mom would set a gorgeous dinner table and when the main course, the perfect roast or the crispy chicken or fish frys, the smell would make me sick. I would "insult" her, by nearly barfing, and when I did eat my hamburger tearfully, trying hard to make it disappear in my hand, I could be counted on the eat the side dishes. I didn't want to insult her... I just couldn't stand the smell of what they thought was sooooooo good.
I discovered my love for spinach while having dinner with another family that served spinach. All the other kids were going YUCK!!! and it was a lame steamed spinach.. nothing special compared to all the other food.. but it had my name on it.. I LOVED it.. and so then I was accused of making a fool out of myself and embarrasing the family, by not touching the roast, but taking the spinach off all the other kids plates for spite...with my bad attitide that refused to be polite. It was hell at meal time. Since when did I like spinach? Since when did they serve spinach that wasn't creamed, au gratined, with bacon and blue cheese?
Truth was... they didn't like spinach, they used it as an excuse to eat bacon and blue cheese with steak.
I always thought I had been adopted.. these military meat eaters (wolves) could not possible be my biological parents.. but I MissLIberty says confirms, they are.
I'm so happy to know this.
THANK YOU celest for creating this post and GOOD LUCK with your toddlers dining developments!!
First, just the idea that one man's meat is another man's poison...
Published in 1995 or 1996, it still sells in hardback due to word-of-mouth. I've bought several copies, myself, and my copy at work is often loaned out. The research continues, and some things in the book have been refined or changed, but the basic idea that your digestion is where the outside world is met by your immune system, and that your blood distributes food and carries waste to be eliminated, is critical to understanding health.
My face no longer breaks out and my energy is better, and I'm a B. B's are in between O's and A's in many ways. I have O friends who went back to red meat and gave up bread, and lost weight and lost their "brain fog." I have A friends who did the opposite with the same results.
That said, vegetables are the foundation for any type. Too much of the American diet is bread and meat. Grains at the bottom of the food pyramid are a huge governmental mistake.
Peanuts are good for both O's and A's, generally (avoids for B's), but your reaction may have another source. Everybody has antibodies to pork.
just to get the tykes tummy working right. Part of the problem could be from not enough flora in his system to properly digest his food.Has he been on any anti-biotics recently?
Kids have finicky palates so you have to keep them away from any type of junk food or you'll have hell to pay trying to feed them right. After that no heavily processed foods, try to stick to organics and kids love fruit so try to find a well rounded variety that he likes and don't skimp on the veggies to balance things out. Hope this helps.

There are Naturopaths, Homeopaths, Chiropractors, Nutritionists, that she might want to explore.
To ensure her toddler is treated wholistically, she will need someone who does a detailed intake of the child's health since birth and even before birth.
Someone who asks a lot of questions regarding vaccines, diet, sleep patterns, behaviours etc. From the answers to the questions a good practitioner can diagnose or if cannot diagnose send to someone who could. Once diagnosis is made, proper treatment can be administered and observed.
Wow,
there are so many great suggestions here, but I do have one more. Lots of fresh air, exercise and sunshine will stimulate the appetite and will also help him sleep better too. And that in turn will help build up the immune system. Good luck! :)
Been there! Here is my story and my advise...

At the end of the 11th month, God answered my prayers though my mother.

Go to DAdamo.com find http://www.dadamo.com/typ... and you can look up foods individually. Incidentally, this is why I don't trust government to tell me what to eat. I'm a B, and not in the majority!

THANK YOU FOR THIS IMissLiberty
The book is still a best seller in hardback for this reason

Is there a health practicioner whose healing principle recognize
the self healing propensity of our bodies?
There are Naturopaths, Homeopaths, Chiropractors, Nutritionists, that she might want to explore.
To ensure her toddler is treated wholistically, she will need someone who does a detailed intake of the child's health since birth and even before birth.
Someone who asks a lot of questions regarding vaccines, diet, sleep patterns, behaviours etc. From the answers to the questions a good practitioner can diagnose or if cannot diagnose send to someone who could. Once diagnosis is made, proper treatment can be administered and observed.
