Young Marine, No Skills, only knows how to kill. Where do we go from here?

A few months ago I went to the Army, Navy and Marine reserve units in my town looking for individuals with above average electronics backgrounds. With everything in the news over the last few days it started me thinking very hard about our values and where we are in life.

On my visits I met a young man and told him about our business and what we were looking for. This seemingly very intelligent young man told me, Mr. Jim, I get out in a couple of months but all I know how to do is KILL!

How do we as a country, state, family, help our kids. Especially the ones we send off to kill with no threat to anything other than profit. I am at a loss. I am a Marine since 1976 and have never forgot my Oath. How do I help these kids see what is going on. How do I help these kids believe there is more to live for and their service was for something. If we don't help them see truth, everything is lost.

I would like to ask how many of you have visited a military , ex-military individual and tried to help them adjust to the idea of liberty. I personally am not a anti-war individual. I am most certainly an individual that does not believe in unjust wars. I just feel so bad for this kid. What can I do?

We as a group must reach out to them. If the troops know they have us to count on, then, maybe our country may survive. If we don't, then it is time to go to the hills and the swamps. This kid may never know peace and it is all our faults. No one can escape this reality. We may see each other in hell for our negligence. God help us all!

I wish you all the peace and health you deserve. May we quit destroying our children. I just hope I may help this man(child)

Jim

One suggestion

1. Make a lot of money.
2. Invest in real estate, farms, commercial property etc.
3. Contract with a good security company. They hire vets who have no problem stopping dangerous people.

That's what I learned. I believe the violence is going to escalate as the economy worsens. Plenty of job security for vets.

That's all?

Hire someone to sit around and look for trouble?
Better yet, they can plow, plant and harvest and if need be carry a weapon in defense when the occasion arises.
Otherwise what you suggest is to hire people not to produce, I think the government does that task well enough.

Protect and Defend the Constitution

Have all these young men use their skills and protect and defend the Constitution from all the domestic enemies. They can point their guns torwards them and this country would be a much better place.

I am touched by your compassion for this young man(child)

He seems to look up to you being a Marine. It also seems you are already giving this crossing of the paths serious consideration. Well you have a choice to take this youth under your wing or not.

I am so glad to see you understand what they have done to this young life. Perhaps you can include him in something that could help him make a living? Encourage him to go to college? Even community college for something that might interest him. Sponsor him?

thank you very much for your thoughtful

post; it would be good if each of us look for opportunities to assist and perhaps nurture or mentor these young kids so abused and betrayed by the system.

Well, it certainly is

heart wrenching thinking about how screwed up we are. I have no answers for you but I understand how sad the situation is. Talk to him, maybe lead him to some web sites that give real news. Give him Gen. Smedley Butlers Book "War is a Racket". Don't give up, don't give in, and don't get down we shall prevail.

Military needs a re-boot camp

As opposed to the boot camp, which prepares them for killing, and obeying orders.

A Re-boot camp would prepare them for civilian life. Perhaps even job training.

Put him in charge of your complaint department....8)

No seriously....

The only way he can heal is to be led to the truth. When he is led to the truth hopefully he will join Oathkeepers, and then Iraq War Veterans For Peace.

He must take a stand against the unjust wars for profit, and oil.
I have a similar Marine in our family in our family, but I couldn't break through to him. He is working intel at the Pentagon now.

He knows that if he puts duty before family and country, then we will be enemies. It is a bit awkward, to say the least.

Don't judge too harshly. Blood is Absoutely thicker

than water. This I know for fact. In this case I hope Marine blood is thicker than Government. I will do my best. So must you. It is for humanities sake. Be patient and he will come around. I will do what I can for this child.

Jim

Welcome them into the Chicken Coo(p)

Beat their sword into a poop scoop.
We can heal our children, by bringing them back to a harmonious lifestyle. In all seriousness, a little coop with w couple laying hens would be a great thing to offer our returning vets. Teach them how to be self reliant.

Right on!!! Nothing like fresh air, farming, producing your own

good food! I agree. That is awesome. The farm is the heart of a wholesome lifestyle.

Stay in touch with him...

offer your support, guidance and understanding because these kids are not getting it from the military when they come home.

This is like a returning nightmare to me..we saw this when the soldiers returned from Vietnam..they were the older brothers of my friends and my friends. They ( the vietnam vets) are now a large number of our homeless, disabled and mentally ill.

Now we have another generation of youth from Iraq and Afghanistan occupations coming home and not getting proper help readjusting or care. We will be seeing alot of the repurcussions of this for decades to come. I am strongly non interventionist but I realize these kids join out of promises of education and desperate for a paycheck and what they think is patriotism. It's very sad and part of the blowback for our interventionist policies.

Stay in touch with him and offer support. It's so sad to see another generation going through the horrors of war. It breaks my heart for our soldiers as well as all the innocents killed in the countries we occupy ( approx 2,000,000 killed Iraq and Afghanistan)

Just stay in touch with him..let him know you care.

Peace

I will only bump this one time, because

I kept changing the title for not knowing exactly what to say. Please excuse my emotional attachment to this kid.

I feel your heartbreak and concern for this kid...he represents a "war casualty" that is largely not acknowledged. Check out Oathkeepers.org there are many active and retired military as well as law enforcement there that could be very supportive and help.

Liberty Belle, Thank you. I am very involved in

Oathkeepers in my State. We will do what we can for this young man. We have a focus with Oathkeepers and I will not veer from that with this situation but, any help (ideas) that I can get from the Dp will do nothing but help. I appreciate your concern and your heart.

You are a truly outstanding individual. I mean that from my heart. I will do everything I can for this kid. I guess what I want is for everyone on the DP to at least look into this aspect of what is going on. I feel very sad for our country and the people in it. These kids have no idea what is coming or what brought them to this point. We send our kids to fight for BS. Then we punish them for teaching them the wrong things. We are all to blame.

BMWJIM~ I do have some ideas!

I had written a long response with some further thoughts then my computer locked up and I lost it !! I will contact you email tomorrow and give you my thoughts / ideas to help. Of course the best thing would be not to send them in the first place...but the reality is they need help adjusting when they return.

I have talked to some marines that tell me they are only over there to support their buddies..they know US should get out and are semi awake but they have a loyalty to the guy next to them ( not so much US foreign policy) It was heartbreaking... I met some young marines in Wilmington near camp legune and they know politically and on constitutional principles they should not be in unjust wars but the heartbreak was they told me they wonder where the protests are and why is no one helping to get them out?!!

They are only there for the guy next to them at this point and they know what is happening here and talk about it amongst themselves. They want to come home and they want to know why people are not out in the streets trying to stop the wars.

It breaks my heart. I will email you some positive ideas to help the returning in the next day or so!

Peace

PS. I'm a military brat. My Dad is retired AF. I have a strong history of military in my family for generations..WWI and WWII, Korean War Vietnam ... my father in law is an 84 yr old Marine vet that survived Iwo Jima. My Uncle was an Army Capt. fought under General Patton and was a guard at Nuremburg.

Great advice, Liberty_Belle

I hope this young man finds a kindred spirit there.
