Some lawmakers have profited from investments in companies that have received federal bailouts; dozens of lawmakers are invested in Wells Fargo, Citigroup, Goldman Sachs and Bank of America.

They're too big to fail!
lol
Senator Jay Rockefeller?
How can Jay Rockefeller not be tops on this list?
Me thinks some families never have to report their real wealth...no matter what.
My Senator is
Herb Kohl from the Kohls department store chain as well as owner of the Milwaukee Bucks. The bank bailout vote was the last straw.
His campaign slogan is "Nobody's Senator but Yours". Should be if he was truthful "I'm the Senator up Yours"
"Let Them Eat Cake"
"Let Them Eat Cake"
it takes $10,000 just to
it takes $10,000 just to register to run for senate...
I haven't looked into congress yet, how is an average person supose to acomplish this?
I've considred running for office myself but this is one of the many stumbling blocks placed against "joe 6 pack" not to mention the lack of funds avalible to over come the name recognition issue..
its a rich man/woman's game and we wonder why we feel misrepresented?

I looked into it
The paperwork you have to fill out is worthy of a team of people working full time.
It worked, I was scared off, if you ever screwed up a little on your taxes, they're going to nail you. The candidate disclosure forms ask about every financial move you have ever made. And if you ever get even close to getting a decent portion of the votes, your competition is going to dig up every grammar school fight, ex girlfriend, college paper, minor crime you have under your name. If they can;t find anything, they're going after your family or they'll follow you around like they do with Rand and wait for you to slip up.
I have a few minor skeletons
I have a few minor skeletons but I'm in no way ashamed of them and I would hope that Alaska would be a kinder, gentler place to run for office, especially since our only congressman (Don Young) is facing some pretty shady corruption charges, and hasn't voted true to the republican base... ever.
one of our senators snuck his way into office due to a botched conviction of his competitor (sen Ted Stevens, the conviction has since been over turned) and the other sen. Lisa Murkowski is doing alright, but I have my questions about her as well.
perhaps national office is too high of a goal for a lowly citizen such as myself.

How can these lawmakers
How can these lawmakers possibly relate to the average American? And if they are unable to relate to the average American why are they in DC?
Why do voters keep voting for people who are incapable of giving them proper representation? Because how can a millionaire truly understand the plight of the common man/women?
Now I have no doubt these lawmakers have no problem relating to their millionaire constituents? We can see how well they relate everyday.
What's that old saying..."the rich get richer and the poor get poorer."
The American aristocracy.
