No law requiring one to pay federal income taxes?
I'm part way through watching Aaron Russo's "Freedom to Fascism" movie, and I'm blown away so far. Is there really no law that requires one to pay federal income taxes? I've done some searching around on the internet, and I've found arguments going both ways.

Obsessing about the absence of a sentence or two that says "thou shalt.." or concepts like jurisdiction is giving some kind of magical element to the law.
The law is not magic.
Society is not based on magical powers of gold fringe on flags.
If you don't think a law exists or that it is not Constitutional then break it, challenge it and see what the supreme court says (or your federal district appeals court). That is what this society has said to do when you face legal ambiguity.
BTW lawyers face legal ambiguity every day. The reason why they get paid lots of money is the figure out or argue "what the law is."
Until you understand this you will not understand why all of this "show me the law" nonsense is just that nonsense. Do not deify that which you do not understand.
this comment is the OPPOSITE
this comment is the OPPOSITE of true.
Law is REQUIRED to be specific, otherwise, it is "void for vagueness"...this is a nation of law NOT opinion. This type of mentality is EXACTLY what has ruined this country...the "do what everyone else does" mentality, and the idea that challenging the law, and those in charge of law is wrong.

Repeal the 17th Amendment!

excellent point
check out the link I posted below for how the courts handle this stuff.

with guns and badges
put it this way, there are
put it this way, there are 54,846 pages of income tax code. If everyone owes income tax, why is the code so long?
to exclude churches? no, it is to confuse us lazy Americans who dont want to read all of the code, as I have, into believing we all owe tax.
Ironically, the IRS admits that the 16 amendment is where a lot of their authority comes from, yet the Supreme Court in Stanton v Baltic Mining said
http://caselaw.lp.findlaw...
"...But, aside from the obvious error of the proposition, intrinsically considered, it manifestly disregards the fact that by the previous ruling it was settled that the provisions of the 16th Amendment conferred no new power of taxation, but simply prohibited the previous complete and plenary power of income taxation possessed by Congress from the beginning from being taken out of the category of indirect taxation..."
in other words, The IRS will admit that in 1912, before the 16th amendment, you wouldnt owe income tax, but because of the 16th amendment, now you do...The supreme court says the 16th amendment "conferred no new powers of taxation"...lastly, Title 26, the Income Tax code has NEVER been enacted into positive law, which is WHY it isnt considered unconstitutional. An un-enacted law CANNOT be considered unconstitutional.
in 1913 the income tax code was 18 pages long, and was very clear WHO owed a tax, and on WHAT!

To agree with Furlough for a sec...none of this means they wont arrest you, or come after you....This is mostly because you have inadvertently MADE yourself liable through a contract of some sort, Soc. Security, 1040, W-4, 1099, etc.
BUT, if you have severed all of the contracts that DO make you liable, you are in a much better position to take them on. I personally received a "closing notice" for a tax year after years of back and forth of letters, with which I had a legal response for every one.
It's defacto proof that no law exists when their responses read like this:
"It is not the duty of the IRS to provide code or enforcing regulations or to respond to the requests of taxpayers"
AND the FACT, that they will NEVER sign a letter with a first and last name.
They will NOT send an "invoice" and so on. If we owed it, they would be more than happy to help us, and tell us why we owe it.
Another trick, is Postage. You can still send a letter, anywhere in the country for 2 cents. This is because ONLY congress can raise the price of mail, and the last time they did, it was 2 cents.

I'm worried they are going to take you away man
but it is clear you are not an idiot or scammer. So seriously, be careful

What is needed is a list of case law where the defendant
won based on the premise that there is no law. Case law can sway a jury as well and sometimes even a judge to dismiss the case.
agree
and not unrelated quotes from cases that have nothing to do with this, actual case law where someone challenged the tax.
Just Remember
There may or may not be such a law. There are arguments both ways, but one thing is sure: the gunverment will pre-emptively and very possibly without due process of law, place liens on your property, seize your bank accounts and other wise pursue you like a criminal AS IF there were such a law, if you make any attempt to 'get out' of the system.
We are tax slaves. Come to grips with it.
I wish you all the best
but please be careful and try to stay out of jail so you can fight with us to have the IRS abolished and the FED destroyed.
Here is the playbook they use, cross reference your argument for not paying taxes with this website, it will let you know how the IRS argues the position and almost always wins.

This covers everything from the 16th to the word income, to the juristiction of the USA and pretty much everything you can think of to say no.
I don't think there really is a legal way to go about this.
Under Article I section 9 of the Constitution
Under Article I section 9 of the Constitution it says "No Capitation, or other direct, Tax shall be laid" so how does the income tax get around this? Before you jump an say the 16th Amendment look at what the Supreme Court had to say about the 16TH Amendment.
"The Sixteenth Amendment.....does not extend the taxing power to new or excepted subjects....
Peck & Co. v. Lowe, 247 U.S. 165, at 172 (1918)
What this means is the taxing power congress had before the 16th Amendment remained the same after the 16th Amendment.
Do you not find it funny that the the income tax started right after the Private Fed started in 1913???
Besides income itself is not a tax.........the word income is the tool used to measure the amount of tax that is due from the activity or source that is being taxed. Does your wages or labor fall under one of these?
YOu're making progress every day. Welcome to the real world!
For some reason, we're expected to know every law that exists in America & in our state so we don't break it. We're supposed to know this when we're 18. There's no litmus test for them, as in the 10 commandments or rhyme or reason. C.U.R.E. Thank God for bugs, they're company for people in solitary confinement.
Now when you get to the end, pay close attn. to Cliff Curtis who made election hacking software. That's right, election fraud. Watch Hacking Democracy when you get a chance, heck, watch all the films listed on the --> side of this website. Then, watch Alex Jones' films, hmmm starting w/ Endgame, then there's the Late Great USA by Jerome Corsi. If you don't have high-speed access but have a DVD player, write to www.onedollarDVDproject.c... & he'll send you stuff.
I also strongly suggest you start watching RT or Russia Today, available from public television. You'd be amazed on how much they report from the US that the American media doesn't touch, they have bureaus in DC & NY. You shouldn't think it was unintentional that the news only mentioned Ron Paul a handful of times during the whole election & not a peep about the other candidates, Chuck Baldwin, etc..
WELCOME TO THE REAL WORLD. We have slumber parties here, too.
In celebration of the new health care debacle
Stop sending these bastards any more of your money. No more withholding, no more social security, no more anything. Save your own money for your own well being. If I could I'd make that mandatory. It's to the point that we have to stop are just follow it down the drain. They're using these funds against us people. WAKE UP !!!
I'm strongly considering
I'm strongly considering this. I admit the only thing holding me back is fear. I think at some point though that my anger is going to outweigh my fear. And the same will probably happen for a lot of Americans, if it hasn't already.
Fear
We can fight fear within ourselves with knowledge and acting on that knowledge. Entering this battlefield without the protection of knowledge is like going to battle without a gun. Remain in the cover until you are prepared for the repercussions of your action or you will become cannon fodder of the state. I would encourage you to begin to study and understand the law and your enemy.
I agree
please check out the link I have above and know what you are dealing with. They don't play with people who take this approach.
Good luck to you sir
jurisdiction
After many years of considering the ramifications of the tax code and its relevance to the US Citizen I find the code to be very well written and constitutional. The wild card in the whole scenario is who the code applies to ie. jurisdiction. I agree with the research showing that the code applies to all those who give jurisdiction to the federal government. If one chooses not to come under the protection of the federal government, one need not "subscribe" to such service. At the point of self governance we must fall under the jurisdiction of our God. So, we are free to decide if we are to be ruled by man and pay a legal tribute to him through the governmental income tax or seek sovereignty and pay tribute to our God. Any forced payment to a government entity made from our earnings as non governmental employees would constitute bondage or slavery. The fruits of our labor are ours to give. A long and interesting story. I would encourage you to check out SEDM.org and go to a search and start reading. Best wishes on your journey
Check out this excellent resource and be very careful of what
you are reading on this topic no matter where you find it. According to the law, only YOU can determine your own tax liability. No one else can do that for you.

Some win, some lose
Many go to jail; yet some are acquitted. Being correct doesn't mean one will win. Check out Truth Attack (Tommy Cryer), Dave Champion, Michael Badnarik, Joe Bannister, Sherry Peal Jackson, Larken Rose, to name just a few. They can all give you good information.
My two cents:
The IRS, the courts, the cops, the accountants, and the politicians really don't care if there is a law or not. The American people have paid federal income taxes for generations, and NO ONE in authority is going to go against that principle. Any arguments against the legality of the income tax, no matter how well supported, are treated as nothing more than word games. The government doesn't play word games when they are the ones who will lose. And remember: they have guns, and lots of them.
You mentioned guns
And the people don't ? The problem is we've got a lot of cowardly beaten down yahoos that would rather chase Madison Avenue bullshit than band together and get out from under these thieves. the people who created this country wouldn't have stood for this highway robbery for a day, it never would have happened...Being scared will get you killed. Would you rather be a lion pride for a day or a flock of sheep for a lifetime. WAKE UP !!!
This is the best summary
See this summary which lists the relevant sections of U.S. code of law:
http://docs.law.gwu.edu/f...
You can confirm the U.S. law yourself by looking it up on the Cornell server for the U.S. code of law.
http://www.law.cornell.ed...
Or you can look it up on a .gov site, which of course is more authoritative, but doesn't have as nice a user interface.

Income Tax
I believe the point is that the 16th Amendment was never RATIFIED. This makes the laws concerning income tax unconstitutional and illegal. We must remember that just because the government says something is true, it doesn't necessarily mean it is true. IF you want to stop paying income taxes, I believe ta number of things would have to happen:
1. A mass group of people would have to organize and refuse to pay their taxes in unison. I am talking about a town, city or county.
2. Someone with enough money to afford high quality legal representation would have to provide an attorney for the group and prove the income taxes are unconstitutional.
3. The group (provided they win) would get plenty of media attention and set a precedence. If one group could win, so would others. Once that snowball got rolling there would be no stopping it.
The only other option is for the majority of the country to refuse to pay at once. What are they going to do? Arrest millions of people?
Either way, unity, coordination and good legal representation are the key.
I think the last comment is the key,,,
I think this is what the FEAM camps are for, tax protestors. I think eventually the federal government will have to raise the taxes of all Americans to over 60%, and when this happens many will refuse. This is why they need detention centers to hold millions, so that they can put them into forced labor and no profit to teach citizens that they can pay the government and get a paycheck, or simply be forced to work while incarcerated, Just my opinion.
In the beginning of a change the patriot is a scarce man, and brave, and hated and scorned. When his cause succeeds, the timid join him, for then it costs nothing to be a patriot.
~Mark Twain
Top tax bracket was 94% in 1945
The top tax bracket was 94% in 1945 and was around 90% for two decades. No detention centers were necessary then for tax protestors.
http://www.truthandpoliti...
I consider the arguments "show me the law" and "the 16th was never ratified" to be separate arguments.
They were in the midst of a very well-hyped war
And they most certainly had detention camps for protestors, tax avoiders and Japanese people.
Did you look at the chart I linked to?
Top tax rate was 70% clear through 1982.
What about the Supreme Court
What about the Supreme Court decisions that said the 16th Amendment granted Congress no new powers of taxation?
