Paul on Scooter Libby
Ok let me say first I support Ron Paul, and the answer to this will not change that. but it is a small thorn that does bug me.
I watched a question put to Dr. Paul on the possiblity of pardoning Scooter Libby if he where elected. It seemed to show Dr. Paul wishing to keep Scooter in Jail for his roll in the starting of the Iraqi Conflict, Which it is my understanding not what he is in jail for (i belive its lying to a Jury?) could someone rebut this for me and point me to an answer. Scooter should be in jail for what he was convicted, But how can we as supporters of Freedom say we wish a man to be kept in jail for something he was not convicted of.
Again one small thorn but i am looking for an answer to it.

Dr. Paul's position on Scooter Libby
My understanding of Dr. Paul's position on this is that Libby is in jail because he was convicted. Someone who has been convicted and sentenced to jail must stay there unless they are pardoned. Pardoning means accepting a conviction, but still lifting the punishment because of strong/unusual other factors (the other factors must be strong/unusual because otherwise everyone who got convicted would deserve to be pardoned - after all, almost everyone has some redeeming quality) .
So whether Libby should be pardoned depends upon whether strong/unusual other factors make pardoning appropriate. Because Libby does not have such strong/unusual other factors - and indeed, because he helped start the Iraq war - Dr. Paul does not think he meets the standard for someone whose punishment should be lifted based upon strong/unusual other factors.
Someone please corrrect this if I am wrong.
