They are not trivial matters.

rand will either win or he won't. we don't have control of that. Kentucky does.

All we can do is just do the best we can. This crowd is diverse, an even if you have 100 posters upset with Rand, remember, they actually have a good point, even if they are going overboard.

The other thing to remember is that there are THOUSANDS of DP visitors and members. I read posts on here all the time, that quite frankly, I'm not so interested in. But it doesn't distract me from the main purpose.

comments. I think it is just the way that some people vent. In a ideal world we could have everything perfect, but people are not perfect.
One thing some people seem to forget is that we are all learning all the time if we don't have a closed mind.
Open debate and even strong uncompromising stands can be good.

how many KENTUCKY repubs. you think would fall for simple trick of equating this guy (RP 2nd) with "Al-Kayda"(phonetic reconstruction of imaginary hillbilly dialect), GITMO, OBAMA, etc., etc., etc. with the consequence being they support a thoroughly evil bank-snail like grayson. I bet there are a lot of such Kentuckians, as there are a lot of such Americans : gullible, easily tricked. GITMO is a red herring, get over it.

All I ask is that you temper your idealism with love and wisdom.

There are many many people, which our wisdom and idealism tells us to immediately reject as being opportunists, liars and hypocrites.

Rand isn't one of those. Yes he made a highly questionable statement. He's new to politics.

When someone is in my circle of friends and family, and they make a mistake or do something questionable, we ask questions, get information, rally to their aid, and it all works out.

It is very rare, that I've had to break off a friendship and support for someone that is in my circle. I have forgiveness waiting in the wings, and my disappointment is tempered with love...

It's right for you to inquire. But choose your words wisely. If this turns out to be a misunderstanding, the damage you do will be mostly to yourself.

If you are a one issue pony, then so be it. Vote for Grayson, who cares. You are probably a Grayson plant anyway. You do not know what torture is, water boarding is not torture. I guess we just turn a blinds eye to what these radical muslims are doing now? I guess its our fault the idiot at Fort Hood did what he did? The radical muslims will just skip over ole Revere1776 when they do their sucide bombings here in the USA. We do not need you to get Rand in the Senate, bye bye have fun with whatever you do. As for me, I support Rand 100% with my time, money and effort.

You'll be voting for Grayson then. Because Grayson is a better choice over Rand.

This is what the establishment wants. Divide and conquer. Please don't let them succeed. Personally I don't agree with Rand on this particular issue, but he's still miles more free market, and non-interventionist then anybody else currently in the US Senate.

Regarding the Military Spending, If the entire federal budget is cut down to 10% of it's current size obviously The military would be cut down to a fraction of it's current size too. Rand Paul is just saying that of that 10% left, defense should be the majority of that. so Rand is for dismantling much of the Military. Not as much as I, as an anarchist would like to see (which is a complete abolishment) but certainly more then anybody else currently in the US Senate.

Trey Grayson attacked Rand on the issue because he knew it would be divisive. Trey new Paul either had to say one thing, and make the people of Kentucky very unhappy, or say another thing and cause problems in much of his national base.

Please read the two articles I've put together. This is definitely a very well orchestrated event by the Trey Grayson camp. And Rand, being a little green to the political process simply had trouble with handling it.

Remember people, this is why we LIKE Rand, because he ISN'T a career politician, but that means he's going to make a mistake now and then.

The problem then, seems to be the lack of any official declaration of war, like I've blogged about before. Had Rand been in the US Senate at the time, he would have forced an official declaration and there wouldn't be any question about whether or not these are prisoners of war and what their rights are vs regular citizens or "enemy combatants" (which seems to mean whatever Bush wanted it to mean).

But the fact is the Afghanistan war wasn't done properly and constitutionally, and now we have to figure out the best way to unscramble an omelet. I will state for the record that I disagree with Rand on the issue, but I do think it's possible for libertarians and anti-war people to disagree on the best way to unscramble the evils of the state. Murray Rothbard and Frederick Hayek disagreed on the best way to unscramble the central bank, but they were both classified as solid Libertarians. read the rest
