Alps + Guns + Military Readiness = impossible to conquer.

Gun Town U.S.A

Please refer to "Gun Town U.S.A", Kennesaw, Georgia 1982. Their gun law is still in effect today.

Not exactly

The Swiss do have an Army, in fact it is required of all males to train with the Army for 2 years, at the end of which time they are part of the civilian militia that can be called to military service. My half brothers are both Swiss and both have spent 2 years in the Army. One stayed and became an officer who trains regularly. Just wanted to make that slight correction to Likkerish below.

That's the rub. Compulsion.

That's the rub. Compulsion. I think the Swiss system is excellent, but with this one major caveat. Coercive service has no place in a free society.

so simple a solution

That is the essence of freedom and self policing has always been the path to more evolved thinking.

Better to have it and not

Better to have it and not need it than need it and not have it.If the perception is that most people carry a gun or have one at home then criminals would be less tempted to try anything. If the perception is no one carries and are afraid of guns then these thugs won't think twice.

Swiss Militia Makes Social and Economic Sense

Excellent video, Michael! Thanks for posting.

It is interesting that Switzerland does not maintain a military force as we do in the U.S. Rather they have provided, it seems, for a well-armed, well-trained home militia that can be mobilized at virtually a moment's notice. This force is for DEFENSIVE purposes only, in contrast to our military force which is used for OFFENSIVE purposes (double meaning intended) to protect our empire. Imagine the annual savings if we were to follow a similar path and to get rid of the vast military-industrial complex.

And the Reason ...

... that the Swiss Militia is used defensively and not offensively, is simply because "the Swiss have no army, the people are the Army". Who has the authority to order the Swiss soldiers to attack some other country, when it is the individual Swiss soldier who carries the authority in his hands, by his weapons and his ability to use it?

On the flip side, why would the Swiss rise to their own defense? It is clear that they have the motive, namely each has Liberty, himself, his family and property to defend; they also have the MEANS: some of the finest weapons in the world, and extensive long term training to use them.

Every kid in Switzerland knows that military conscription, NOT FOR SERVICE, but for training, is a fact of life and they mostly look forward to it. It is paradoxical that conscription serves the purpose of Liberty, but here, in the absense of a standing army, it does. The learning of marksmanship and other skills often starts for most, long before they finish high school. It is no wonder that the Swiss excel at marksmanship.

We have no such thing here, but if you are interested in a voluntary organization here that offers marksmanship training, along with some history about why it is necessary and desirable, there is http://www.appleseedinfo.org/

Give it a shot.

handgun ban

Look what happens when an entire country ban guns.

Crime up over 1/3 after handgun ban in UK

Very interesting data, limelemon.

There was a 39% increase in violent crime in just two years after the handgun ban.

They also don't seem to be

They also don't seem to be scared of their government...

Thank you

But is there more videos of this ?

Not to PC but

One reason everyone is armed and I bet another reason is the racial make up is way way different then the U.S. After all look at the make up of 99.9% of the high crime areas in America. This may not be to PC but it is the truth

Crime is always rampant in

Crime is always rampant in the underworld of a welfare state. Has nothing to do with race... Just what happens when people lose the power to change their community for the better, since it is all bought and paid for by the state.

Great video.

Thanks for posting this, I sent it on.

I like it

Neutral and armed. Sounds like a good way to stay out of trouble to me.

Neutral and armed

Imagine that

Imagine.............

Imagine if instead of spending money on getting guns off the streets, we spend that money on educating people on how to properly handle guns. Ahhhh an nation of people that doesn't fear guns.

http://electricheadroom.blogspot.com/

Exactly

It is all about education.

Look at how level-headed that man is. You can see how educated he is. He doesn't ever want to shoot anyone, but there is no doubt in that he would shoot a Nazi trying to haul him off somewhere.

What happened to us?

This is why

those of us who live in the American heartland always get quite pissed, pardon my language, when some Washington politicians who never stepped their foot here talk about banning guns because guns kill people. It is them who lack any gun education not us.

Last week my 14-year old niece was deer hunting in South Dakota. She does fine job doing that.

I am almost ready to say

"You can have the vote, I'll keep the gun."

I have a friend whose husband is Swiss and this voting issue was always her objection to living there. I'd have to do a lot more research. But there is some merit in the founder's policy of property owners being the ones to vote. (Please! I am not advocating that we women not own property!)

Thanks for this, Michael!

Nice piece for the Appleseed Project to use.

I believe voting in the national elections

hasn't been so important as here, because the cantons (like states) are still the strongest political units.

Hmm, well then I'd be happy to say

I'll trade my vote for a gun. Any takers?
But if women were allowed neither a say nor a means of defending themselves through words, actions, or votes, I'll take the gun fer shur.

The one factoid

that always sticks in my head about Switzerland is that they did not grant women the right to vote until 1971. And from what i understand that is only for national elections, in some villages the women still do not have the right to vote.

Red herring

Democracy has always failed and always WILL fail. The "right" to vote is a red herring designed to put people off the scent as government and its handlers rape and pillage with the "consent" of the governed.

I would FAR prefer living in a monarchy where I am left to do as I will with my life and property than any of the democratic thugocracies that dominate the world today.

That is their right

to decide on voting matters. Look at the mess we are in and every one gets to vote.

Whose right? What about the people who can't vote?

Apparently it's not their right to decide...

CHA-CHING!

CHA-CHING!

Democracy doesn't work.

That's the very reason that the U.S. was created as a Republic.

We need to get back to that. The person that is chosen to represent people should not merely be a popular puppet, but instead a respected and hand selected representative of those personally knowledgeable of him.
