Viva Cuba Libre!
Batista was bad, but quality of life before the Revolution was much higher, and Castro/Che were far more deadly in power.
The Cuban people are right to hate Communism, and while as a noninterventionist, I don't think its our job to fix Cuba I have the utmost respect for Cubans who would return and fight the Communists.
For people who want to here a good case against the Revolution try reading Exposing the Real Che Guevara and the Useful Idiots who Idolize Him. The author is a bit of a Neocon, but he did live through the revolution and fled to America as a child. It's a great perspective to read.
The Communist Revolution seems to have largely been a clever con job infused with sympathetic press, and money from rich leftists who thought the guerillas were fighting for social justice. To be fair the communists didn't openly admit to their agenda until victory was assured. The book does convincingly demonstrate how media bias can change world events.
The US press conveniently failed to report on a long counter insurgency by rural farmers and property owners, and no, most of them weren't "elites" but rather family farmers.
The worst thing about the Cuban Revolution is that the communists have convinced much of the world that they were opposed only by fascist fat cats. In truth the Communists were busy executing Catholics, Homosexuals, Rock Music Fans, and Dissenters.
Don't take my word for it. Ask someone who was there.
I never expected
To hear hispanics cheering for the man who wants to build the wall, but RP got the biggest applause of all the candidates. I think people identify with the truth and for that reason young people are joining the campaign in droves. Hitlery and Ghouliani are toast.
Miami Cubans and CIA
I grew up in Miami, watched and listened as the early exodus of supporters of dictator Fulgencio Battista started arriving. The first to arrive were the rich elite who prospered under Battista's regime, so they hated Castro and Communism.
Miami soon became a hotbed of CIA recruiting for a false-flag operation, training and arming Cubans to invade Cuba and throw out Castro - The Bay of Pigs invasion. A great book on it is "Bay of Pigs" by Peter Wieden.
That invasion failed, embarassingly, because the US didn't provide air support as we had promised. WE set them up and let them down. It is probably significant that it was a Democrat who got cold feet at the last moment. JFK. That probably was the start of their GOP infatuation.
The Cubans for years have had CIA ties. Anyone who supported talking with Castro was threatened or, in the case of one radio DJ, his car was bombed - blew his legs off (I heard the blast from my home). Where do you suppose they learned about terrorism?
They also did a lot of drug smuggling to raise money, purportedly to carry out raids on Castro or other illegal activities.
My point is, Miami's Republican Cuban mainstream is quite a bit to the right of Mussolini. They are more rabidly anti-communist than pro-freedom. Forget about getting their support. There may be a young contingent of Cubans that is open to RP's ideas, but they may be reluctant to admit it in public. Too dangerous, if Miami's anything like it was the last time I was there.

Ron Paul did awesome, I bet many Hispanics woke up yesterday.
My impression of Cubans in this country...
My impression with the Cubans that have come here are that they are conservative republicans and anti-Castro/anti-communist (good thing) but have also fallen for the neocon way of doing things in some cases. So they would likely boo trading with communists with whom they disagree.
Ron Paul did very well...
Attend a Church of your choice this Saturday.

Does anyone have a link to
Does anyone have a link to where the entire debate can be watched with English subtitles?

Comments section beneath the article...
Why...
did they cheer when they mentioned Hugo Chavez and then boo when Ron Paul said we should trade with them?
Re: Why...
They were cheering at the mention of Chavez losing the vote on his proposed changes for Venezuela, not for Hugo Chavez himself.
People here hate Chavez almost as much as they hate Castro.
Cuban Elite control South Florida
The Cuban elite is deeply rooted to maintain the Anti Castro status-quo to keep them as privileged Latinos. Huckabee was forced to flip flop on this issue, while Dr. Paul maintains true to his moral character and never waffles. They want to export this hatred towards Venezuela not realizing sanctions and that acts of war empower Dictators and unite the flock being attacked. Cuban elite do not care about the harm being inflicted to the Cuban population on the island but as a Republican block politicians such as Huck need cater to their views.
From the Miami Herald today:
Although the candidates kept it polite on stage, Fred Thompson's campaign circulated press clippings from 2002 in which Huckabee called for an end to the trade embargo with Cuba. In a letter to President Bush, Huckabee wrote at the time: ``U.S. policy on Cuba has not accomplished its stated goal of toppling the Castro regime and instead has provided Castro with a convenient excuse for his own failed system of government.''
That stance is bound to rile many Cuban Americans in Miami-Dade, who believe that the embargo helps undermine Fidel Castro's repressive regime.
Huckabee is certain to face questions about the embargo at a Monday morning press conference in Miami, where he is expecting an endorsement from Florida House Speaker Marco Rubio, one of the most prominent Cuban-American Republicans in the state.
Caught off guard, Huckabee's campaign said two hours after the debate that he had since changed his position on the embargo after consulting with Cuban-American leaders. ''He's committed to vetoing any legislation that lifts sanctions on Cuba,'' said Huckabee spokeswoman Alice Stewart.
The local anti-Castro sentiment was evident when U.S. Rep. Ron Paul of Texas was booed for saying the U.S. should talk to Cuba and allow trade and travel
its too bad these people
its too bad these people booed when Ron Paul said he thought it was time to talk to Castro.. I wish people could understand this.. by putting embargos on the "bad" country, it only hurts the people living there and actually makes the dictator stronger.. In Iraq many people who were poor or sick died because of our embargo. It did not cause Saddam Hussain to lose power.. So what if we have disagreements on who runs the country and the way they run it.. the best thing is for the people there to get a taste of freedom and liberty and then let them take care of thier own internal problems without us! If these people had more time to study and got better access to information and not that from lame stream media they would come around! BUT... GEES looked like Ron Paul at least finally got some air time at a debate!!!!!!
A BOOing can be a good thing
When Ron Paul was BOOed in May and his opponent criticized his stand on the war, we WON! How many people WOKE UP that day in May? How many woke up as a result of the recent debate? I predict a replay of May, except that this time tons of people who prefer to think in Spanish will reflect on Dr. Paul's comments and become ardent supporters.
A kneejerk booing here and there really helps his campaign.
Hope for America = Esperanza de América

Boy, Howdy (that means I agree)
I thought it was great
Let those others split the hate-vote! Anyone who listens carefully can't help but see the truth. Boos just show that he isn't afraid to say the truth.

Ron Paul needs internet support on the Univision forums
My written Spanish is deplorable, so I cannot defend our favorite candidate to the best of my ability. I know two or three DP posters are doing their best to keep a positive light on Dr. Paul in the wake of last nights debate. If you have a few moments, and you are proficient in Spanish and debate, or just expressing yourself well in Spanish, please take the time to help the hispanic fence-straddlers learn the truth about Ron Paul.

The Univision website for the 2008 Elections is starting to publish articles about last nights debate. They are not painting Dr. Paul in a good light at all. They are exaggerating the amount of boos he received and neglect to mention the applause and cheers he received immediately after explaining his stance. Another article discusses expenditures on advertising and campaign coffers. They don't even mention Dr. Paul at all in that article. This, despite the fact the Univision had a story on Dr. Paul's finances as recently as 4 December: (http://www.univision.com/... )
(Use the Google website translator found here: http://www.google.com/lan...)
We should not be surprised at these tactics. We still have time to keep Univision from re-writing recent history (like, what happened yesterday). Dr. Paul had enormous support showing all around Coral Gables, from what I was able to gather. This fact should be brought to the attention of the readers of Univision. A small flurry of activity today and tonight could make a HUGE difference.
She called him Congressman Juan Paulo
And then winked. Does that mean she thinks Ron Paul should be beatified? Excellent linkage to JPII!
As usual...
Ron Paul owned!! Love the standing ovation at the end! He doesn't back down because of the boos. Given enough time, he explains his position, which has not changed. People respect him just for his honesty and consistency, if nothing else.
Ron Paul 2008!

Is there a place to read this site in English? Where can I vote for the debate winner on this site?

Al quieda benefits from this in the way of recruiting! its the same here.. the news people are getting caught in their lies.. more and more people are coming into the the Ron Paul camp!
Miami Herald Article
Here is a link to an article about the debate:

It also includes a web vote. Ron Paul is currently at 82%!
I like how he turned the
I like how he turned the Cuba and Venezuela thing around. At first when he was talking about trade and diplomacy, they were booing. But he started expounding on that explaining his position and talking about Vietnam, and the cheers started to overtake the boos. I think that was the best part of the debate!
I love seeing the Dr. get fired up!
That was awesome! Watched the youtube video and I had the biggest smile when he talked about Cuba and Venezuela.
Believe me, just like every other controversial Dr. Paul policy, once people absorb this one, they'll see him as a genius. And they'll look at the smirking John McCain and realize how wrong he is.
I'm thrilled that the good Doctor stuck to his guns and remained true to his principles! Of course, I knew he would :) but it's always fun to watch.

Thank you, that was GREAT!
I loved the way Ron spoke regarding Chavez and Cuba, despite the boo's. This is truly a man of "principle" who will speak his mind and stand behind his convictions, regardless of what the "wind direction" might be.
Bonita, Senor Paul...bonita! :-)
video is so choppy I can't watch it
I don't know if it is some setting on my computer or what. this happens with youtube and google video also. anybody else have this problem?
Just a Guess
I don't know the details of your computer's choppiness, so I can only guess (I apologize if you already know this): In the beginning, let the video play for a few seconds, then hit the Pause button. Wait several minutes and then hit the Play button again. That will let the video load onto your computer a fair distance ahead of the "play head." That way, the play head won't keep reaching the end of the loaded part of the video and stuttering while waiting for more of the video to load.
Libertad!
Cuban dissident's should remember what is is they came here for. There are those who forget what the true struggle should be. How can you fight for the liberty of people who won't fight for themselves. We are fighting for freedom here in the United States of America. When we end the embargo on Cuba, Castro's revolution will die a deserving death. He uses this embargo to remain in power.
I am the first born American of Cuban descent. My family has suffered and continues to suffer on that island prison. My cousin is currently the longest held political prisoner of conscience in Cuba. I understand how important liberty and human dignity is to a free society. I realized early on that the American political system has been corrupted by those who conspire to take our freedoms in the name of globalism. Ron Paul is the only presidential candidate in my lifetime who has addressed the issues that matter most to me and my family. Liberty.
Ron Paul is the only choice I have!
"One revolution is still necessary: the one that will not end with the rule of its leader. It will be the revolution against revolutions, the uprising of all peaceable individuals, who will become soldiers for once so that neither they nor anyone else will ever have to be a soldier again.." - Jose Marti
The American Revolution 2.0 will not be televised... It will be downloaded!!!

Miami Debate
I call B.S at this point to anyone who says nobody supports Ron Paul.
We were out in front of the debate center and on US1 a major road and I observed over a period of 4 Hours THOUSANDS of commuters had honked their horns in support of Ron Paul.
As God is my Witness I saw 3 supporters for Tax Hike Mike and one for flip flop Mitt and that was all.
I might add that the vast majority of the people going in were driving $70,000 cars and the audience was clearly stacked but even at that, we saw many people going in to the debate that did support Ron Paul.
The people that booed are mainly fat lazy cowardly Cuban and Venezuelan exiles who make a great living off of keeping their respective home countries the way the are today.
They are the real reason anyone from Fort Lauderdale loathes going down to Dade County.
Bottom Line there were more of us than them and while the news portrays it as insignificant all you have to do is ask anyone who was there.
P.S we went to the front of where Rudy was staying and held a Ron Paul rally.
When he saw us he was as white as a sheet and then like a coward he called the Police.
One of the Officers there told me that Rudys staff had said that we were going to do something dangerous.
The Officer told me that we did nothing wrong and that all they wanted us to do was to keep off of the median which we were already had been doing and that this was a waste of 11 CARS and Officers and left us there.
He cant even stand up to a couple hundred Americans, how can anyone think he could stand up to the world?
Anyway

All the more reason to become delegates
"Bottom Line there were more of us than them and while the news portrays it as insignificant all you have to do is ask anyone who was there."
The mainstream media is mercenary and biased in nature.
We know that.
That is why we need to keep using the internet as (1) to hold the mainstream media accountable; (2) to show what really is happening.
But we also need to work the actual system. As much as we don't like it, this country does not go by the popular vote...we know that. This country uses the electoral college. So become a delegate!
Donate, spread the word, become a delegate!
Not Mexicans
There are very few Mexicans in Miami, and I since the audience was made up entirely of students and UM and Miami-Dade big wigs, there may not have been a single Mexican at the debate other than a few Univision employees. There were a lot of Hispanics, but they were Cubans (mostly) and Central/South Americans. Also bear in mind that among Cubans, the older generation is much more supportive of the embargo than the younger generation. Most of the tickets UM handed out went to the older political and business class with lots of money. Working class Cubans would have been far more receptive to Dr. Paul's message, and Mexicans probably would be too, since American meddling in their country hasn't produced any positive change over the past two centuries at all.
Most cubans will never vote democrate
They still remember the bay of pigs
Dr Paul showed up at the
Dr Paul showed up at the local pub where the local Florida meetup groups were meeting after the debate! It was awesome! I'm sure you'll see his speech on youtube sometime tomorrow. It was a blast. He gave his usual *stump* speech. Go Ron Paul!

Re: Univision debate
In any case, one should keep in mind www.whowouldtheworldelect... not only shows Ron Paul winning by an increasing landslide in most countries, but also in most of Latin America: Argentina, Brazil, Colombia, Costa Rica, Cuba, Dominican Republic, Ecuador, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Mexico, Nicaragua, Panama, Paraguay, Puerto Rico, Uruguay and Venezuela. (so far, Bolivia=HC, Chile=FT, Peru=BO).
I'm a Hispanic, and I agree with Ron Paul.
Well, unfortunately the reception that Paul received by the largely Hispanic audience was exactly what I was expecting. I'm a 4th generation Mexican, born and raised near Houston, Texas. I don't speak any Spanish and my ideology is more in line with what I would consider American. I'm a combat veteran (OEF) and I've had to walk the precarious line my entire life of having to act as white as the white people and as mexican as the mexicans. Usually I find myself in the position where I'm too white for the Mexicans, and too Mexican for the whites. I have friends that are Latin American and we have a ton of arguments because I just do not have the nationalistic mentality that they exhibit. The reason I knew Ron Paul was going to get slammed was because as much as I agree with with his policies, I knew that they would fly directly in the face of what "I was supposed to believe in." I'm really in the uncomfortable position of having to decide what to believe in... my culture or the country that I defend?
I don't think it's right that Dr. Paul was boo'ed by the Mexican Americans. I found it offensive because I think that a lot of them failed to realize that what Dr. Paul ideas are the best prescription all around. The fact of the matter is that WE ARE interventionist. His theories and ideas are sound for our foreign policy. Why is it that we (Mexicans) clapped for him with his Iraq policy of non-intervention, but boo'ed him when he suggested the same policy for Hugo Chavez? I think a lot of people who immigrated to the United States expect the nation to pick up the sabra and rattle it in his face on behalf of all of us.
Thing is, us Mexicans do not have a good track record of taking care of our own country. Why is it that all these Latin and Middle American people come to the US instead of changing our own country? It's not like Jesus Christ himself stood on the border of the Rio Grande and said, "This side good land. This side bad land." We would rather come to this country, lay down anchor babies, bleed the system, and then get pissed off when the one person who is going to change everything for the better doesn't play ball for us Latinos. Shame on us. If we expect for the country to bend over and accommodate us, then the least we could do is turn around and show the same decency back to the Americans. Based on the jacked up, chopped up ESL drop out English that was being broadcast on CC3, I would say we have a VERY long way to go.
I was really saddened to see that Univision stooped to the level of the big 3 and didn't give Dr. Paul the airtime he deserved. I thought that the Mexican audience wouldn't have the same agenda as the other companies and maybe give him the fair shake.
I guess that just further proves that if we need to get anywhere in this country, we need to "play coconut" like the rest of them. Shame on all of us.
Our overly nationalistic viewpoint is our undoing. Were too busy repping out own countries first saying stupid statements like, "Oh, I'm Dominican Republican/ Puerto Rican/ Mexican/ Cuban/ etc etc first, and American Second." to realize that we are in this pot of stew together.
I really enjoyed your post
Thanks for sharing that. I agree with you completely. The situation has become so convoluted, Its hard to know where to begin but you did a great job. What really irks me is that many immigrants demand and expect a level of treatment that their home countries would never bestow on immigrants and expats in their country. Ron Paul is right when he says the founders would be ashamed in what we are putting up with- and I think this subject is included in that statement.
Hi American Mexican
I could not agree more with your post. Im originally from Puerto Rico. I speak Spanish, English and Portugues. In MHO this debate should never take place. Im tire of every minority calling Americans racist. Im sure there are some; however, Ive traveled to all the states of this country and I could probably count with one hand all the white racist Ive encounter in my whole life.
What is not said and talked about is how many hispanics and minorities dish out the word racist so they can get their way. Have you ever wonder why we can have Hipanic heritage month, but no white heritage month? At what time we forget that the majority in this country is also a part of this country. I will rather see us all as Americans, but if the government exalts and celebrates diversity I think white folks should also.
This brings me to the point about the supposed white supremasist movement that supposedly donated the enourmous amount of 500 dollars to the Ron Paul campaign. White supremacist are a sympton of how we have forgoten about the contributions and the importance of the whites in this country. So Ron Paul, from this american hispanic , please keep the money and do not apoligise for it. I have come to understand by following your prescription of putting my self on the others person shoes. And to white supremacist the only thing I can say is that I understand the drive behing your anger. That is not easy being ignored as a group while others celebrate their groups. That is not easy being comdemed all the time for all the bad things whites did, while the many many good things they've done is totally ignore. To rap it up, can we minorities stop thinking that we deserve better than any other group (including the majority) just because we are minorities? Dont we have it better here than at our homelands? and shouldnt we be grateful and count our blessings instead of demanding more privilege for our groups.
Pull their fangs and then inject them with their own venom...
Whenever you run into someone who says something along the lines of:
...white supremacist movement that supposedly donated the enormous amount of 500 dollars to the Ron Paul campaign [and he should give it back]
Here's how to instantaneously "Pull their fangs and then inject them with their own venom..."
1) Express ABSOLUTE SHOCK!
2) Say (with a tone of horror) "Are you really suggesting that he FUND a bunch of neo-nazi's? You're saying he should give them their money BACK? For what purpose... so that they can spend it on neo-nazi, white supremacist projects? You cannot be serious! Really, I'm appalled that you could even THINK of such a thing!!!"
3) Enjoy!
(Trust me, they will be either entirely speechless... or blubbering! Absolute best is if you can do this to them ON CAMERA!)
Univision's debate
It is sad to realize that the whole of the 20th century went by without a semblance of a Ron Paul in the White House, or his equivalent anywhere else in the world, and this includes all countries south of the U. S.
I do not know if there is an English version of 'Un Bosquejo de la Otra España' by Alberto Benegas Lynch, Jr, but I strongly recommend it to those of you who understand Spanish. Google it and you'll find it on PDF.
That document left me in no doubt as to which were the two greatest Spaniards who ever lived: The first lived nearly eight centuries ago, Alfonso IX de León, (1171-1230) to whom we owe not only Spain's first Magna Carta but the oldest constitution known to man (Carta Magna Leonesa from 1188), one of the shortest (a couple of pages) and just about the best to date (articles 6, 9, 10, 19, 21 leave no room for evils such as eminent domain; and in any event thieves, con artists etc compensate the victim with double principal and double costs; if a judge delays a case for... -get this- ... three days (!), the judge pays the plaintiff double principal and double costs out of his own pocket and so on. It would also meet the most Jeffersonian interpretation of what the US Constitution's 2nd amendment is all about. But post-1230 fools ignored such constitution. The second and last truly great Spaniard was Juan de Mariana (1536-1624) who lived to the ripe old age of 88 nearly 400 years ago, raised hell about coin-clipping (inflation), about gold wasted in foreign wars (foreign intervention/empire building) and justyfied tyranicide.
More on Mariana at Mises.org by Jesús Huerta de Soto and at Acton.org both in English.
During the 20th century both these true freedom champions have been totally ignored by all public institutions of so called "learning" in the entire Spanish speaking world. How can we expect the booing fools at the Univision debate to act differently?
Right now here in Europe only Vaclav Klaus (president of the Czech Republic) and Rivo Cortonesi (a local politician in Lugano, Switzerland) have a firm Austrian School position, but their scope is limited.
My guess is that in the Univision debate neo-con Hispanics were planted at the front rows, back seats allocated to Ron Paul supporters, and microphones placed to enhance front boos over back cheers/applause, but I still think Ron Paul has picked some more voters among Hispanic American citizens and friends among legal Hispanic immigrants who do not want illegals.
I live in Spain, but perhaps those of you in the US who know Hispanics could let them know about Alfonso IX of León and Juan de Mariana, the Ron Pauls of their day.
