The Ron Paul Factor at the LNC Meeting

In a move most unusual for this body, the Libertarian National Committee just adopted a resolution encouraging Ron Paul to seek the Libertarian Party presidential nomination. The LNC is meeting in Charleston, SC this weekend.

The resolution recognized Paul's standing and history with the Libertarian Party. It also recognized a renewed passion that Paul has ignited across America.

From the resolution:

In the event that Republican primary voters select a candidate other
than Congressman Paul in February of 2008, the Libertarian National Committee invites Congressman Ron Paul to seek the presidential nomination of the Libertarian Party to be decided in Denver, Colorado during the Memorial Day weekend of 2008.

The motion was raised by former Congressman Bob Barr and approved unanimously by the board.

In a related motion, the Libertarian Party voted to authorize the use of their Ballot Base database application in support of the Ron Paul
campaign in New Hampshire. This motion passed unanimously, as well.

Great News

now if the Constitution

now if the Constitution party would do the the same thing!

I think they pretty much

I think they pretty much have.

Most LP members will vote for Dr. Paul

in the primaries

This is good news!

This is good news! The LP knows they don't have a shot otherwise and they see the wisdom of supporting Dr. Paul.

I have been saying for years if the 3rd parties could unite behind a single candidate with independents setting aside differences and uniting on some basic ideals they could make a difference perhaps change the two party system and maybe even win with enough popular support.

If for some reason he doesn't win the Republican nomination I think he could win as a 3rd party in a 3 way split between him , Hillary, and Rudy Romnabee

Maybe

But it's more like Dr. Paul has a ton of LP support and the LNC knows it. That and none of the LP candidates this time around are worth a damn.

"Fight wars for a just cause, not just because!"

Coalition Government

Dr. Paul is forming a coalition government made up of third party and disenfranchised major party members - I think it is awsome. The constitution party is a good fit for the Dr. as is the LP.

I am surprised that the LP would violate their memberships' privacy by making the membership data base available to a campaign without at least getting permission first. Libertarians are very conciencious about protection of privacy.

Liberty is not free, It must be earned!

Not giving up database

They are making a tool available that is loaded with a database of New Hampshire primary voters. It's a thing where you login, click a "start calling" button and a script comes up and a phone number for a New Hampshire voter. Make the call, click on next call/hung up/no answer, etc., and make another call. See ballotbase.org

It's pretty slick and is for volunteers to use to contact voters. It's not loaded with info for Libertarians but for Republican voters. If successful, they could probably use in all other primary states.

Geesh! He is running as a

Geesh! He is running as a republican please don't do this now. This will just cause controversy. Come join us with Paul As americans voting for America. This frustrates the heck out of me!

Why the heck

Aren't they telling their people to register republican in states like California and get him the primary nomination? California is chock full of libertarians and we need every primary vote we can get! jeepers

Because of timing

If LP members register GOP in some states they jeopardize their delegate status to their own state convetions and the LP national convention. Here in CA the LPC ExComm has decided to use a higly technical interpretation of the bylaws to let people go GOP Feb 5 and then still be a deelgate on Feb 22 (An interpretation that violates the spirit of the bylaws if not the letter!).

Never forget that LP members do consider their party in the equation as much as GOP members do.

"Fight wars for a just cause, not just because!"

I suspect this is, in part, trying to make sure all the members

come back after the Republican primaries.

I think a *lot* of libertarians, like myself, re-registered Republican.

I do agree, though, that at the very least they probably should have asked permission from the campaign before doing this. I think their sentiment is genuine, but let's face it, the LP is not the best political organization; this press release exemplifies that.

They could take it a step further

The Constitution party took it further (and REALLY impressed me by doing so)

They said that if Dr. Paul gets the GOP nod, then they will throw thier full support behind him and tell people to vote for him as a Republican.

Now THAT'S honor...no party politics there...

yea but we need their votes

yea but we need their votes in the primary and there donations NOW!

And that's up to Libertarian delegates

And that's up to Libertarian delegates to decide at convention.

While the Constitution Party is jumping on early and not giving the delegates that decision, the LNC has now officially urged him to seek their nomination. Which is more honorable? Sticking to principles and doing what's right by following one's bylaws or jumping the gun and taking that power away from voting convention delegates?

A big stick

I think a LP nomination is a very big stick to hold over the GOP's head. Most of us will vote Paul or nothing at all. If the GOP wants to win in 08 they had better nominate Dr. Paul.

It is planned for Republicans to lose

I agree strongly with comments above about LP getting behind Dr. Paul as a republican. [He has been a 10 term republican congressman, after all]. Not detract from his growing support across parties....I am a lifelong democrat and I've switched to Republican for the CA primaries. [btw: I would assume that CA libertarians already think for themselves and KNOW that they can register republican for this. I would doubt they are sitting around waiting for their party's suggestion/permission].
Anyway, back to the quote above mine: The democrats have been slated to win by the powers behind the scenes. Hillary's been annointed by Bildebergers. They want Guiliani to run against her,so it will be a slam dunk.
They would WELCOME a third party in this regard,to further take away from the republican base-just helps their cause.
But make no mistake,it is mostly the 'average citizen republicans' who will work against this. Those calling themselves republicans in the majority of political offices/media,know full well that this is a losing battle for them and they are signed on for it,b/c their allegience is truly with power elite, not their political party.
That said,Ron Paul all the way!!! To he*l with their original plan!

Paul or nothing at all, indeed.

No more lesser of two evils for me.

yup.

yup.

A lot of LP members will

A lot of LP members will vote for Dr. Paul.

This is about as much as they can get behind him at this point. I'm pleased.

Excellent!!

Just one more indication of the widespread support for Dr. Paul.

Help Dr Paul now

I wish they would just get behind Dr Paul now. Once he gets in office he could have a lot of influence to better establish a climate of a 3 or 4 party system.

This is good for NH

Am I reading this correctly? They are going to use their database to contact LP party members and encourage them to support Dr. Paul in the Republican Primary? Please clarify....

BallotBase.org

They are making a GOTV tool available to Ron Paul supporters. The NH voter file has been loaded into the LP's "Ballot Base" which is a decentralized call center. You can call voters from the comfort of your home as you would from a call center but using your phone. It's pretty easy stuff. They will probably launch tomorrow but everyone should go ahead and registered for the launch and basic info.

In New Hampshire, yeah. Or,

In New Hampshire, yeah.

Or, maybe they're just making the database "available" to party members who want to campaign for Dr. Paul.

I don't like it.

If the MSM hears this, it gives them reason to continue asking "will you go third party?" It's a nice gesture, though.

They're gonna keep asking it anyway.

What would blow their minds is if he has the LP and CP nods in his pocket going into St. Paul witha split GOP convention and him having enough delegates to drive them nuts!
