Submitted by annica2 on Sun, 02/07/2010 - 23:53
"William Kevin Innes, an Asheville man arrested last June and charged with trying to pass off a private currency as legal tender, has sent a plea from jail asking community members for help in securing his release before his trial, which is slated to begin next month."
"Gaunt has invited community members interested in helping Innes to contact her at 582-9115 or write him at the jail."

Google the term "town uses currency". There are numerous towns using their own currencies. Also, from July-September, 2009, the State of California was paying some of its debts with IOU's.
If the Liberty Dollar is illegal to use in the US
are pesos and Canadian dollars viewed as instruments being used to destroy the American currency?
If not us than who?
If the Liberty Dollar
If the Liberty Dollar violated Legal Tender Laws then all alternative currencies violate Legal Tender Laws. Selective enforcement is still a violation of your rights.

debt free money means bankers
debt free money means bankers need to get non desk jobs. that's why they want it.
This is a pure case of
This is a pure case of intimidation. No laws have been broken, except by those who arrested this man.
Nobody could confuse a Liberty Dollar with a federal reserve note, or any coin ever produced by the U.S. Mint. The Liberty Dollar does not claim to be currency of the United States of America, nor legal tender.
It is no more illegal to use Liberty Dollars than it is to barter. What about Canadian coins? Do these fools claim that the use of Canadian coins is illegal? How many arrests have they made in the last year for people passing Canadian coins? Canadian coins are NOT legal tender in this country.
This should be an interesting trial. I assume that they will charge this guy with all sorts of crimes, and then give him a chance to plead guilty to some minor offense. Hopefully, he will stick to his guns, and demand a jury trial. And then sue for false arrest when he is found not guilty.
Well...
to be fair, legal tender laws were broken. However those laws are unjust.
Can you cite the law?
I'm just curious what it actually says and whether we need to target that legislatively.
Gotta
bump this one. We gotta keep making forward progress.

question
How can the courts say you are innocent till proven guilty then keep you locked up till you are found innocent at trial? I wonder if this is grounds for dismissal. Oh wait I forgot that would mean the judges followed the law, never mind.
