☁ Observations

(instead of making new posts, I will just make relevant observations here, as a record)

Dr. Paul Reseated
3/4/10, back on top. This was right after the Texas Gov. R-primary & his CPAC straw poll win.

Dr. Paul Temporarily Unseated!
Woh! As of the beginning of 2/13/10, Medina has more occurrences than Paul on the last 2500 DP headlines!

———update———

Here's an updated, search-linked wordcloud of keywords across the titles of the last several hundred most recent posts to see what's on "the site's mind". (Not just a pretty picture!)

You can change how many elements it sees (1000 max) by finding and changing the value past "howMany=" in the URL, then refreshing. Greater than 400 the lag is more noticeable.

What else does it/we need, folks?

If it were smaller, would it be sidebar or bottom-of-page material?

———original———

This link (as is) can also be poured into any <iframe> or <embed> and it will resize.

Instead of complaining how there is so little metadata here to organize thoughts, I made this from a spreadsheet that unobtrusively, periodically observes the site and parses this data. Hopefully it is a convincing example for using metadata.

In similar, perhaps less useful ways, here are the results for a search of "Ron Paul" on Flickr in a sphere, and the most recent 100 topics in the Liberty forum on a carousel.

Feel free to use the wordcloud. Or if you think any variation of what you see here could be useful, let me know, I'd be happy to help out however possible.

(Feedback on how any of the animated ones run on your computer may help, too...)

Oh, Liberty Movement: Please don't use IE. It is unsafe, slower, and generally of poorer quality than, say, the open-source, free Firefox. Though I'll try and figure out why the link's not working in IE, I refer you to these visuals to support my point.

State of the Union

If you're here, you might find this interesting. It's essentially word clouds from the presidential State of the Union speeches along with a few other tools:

The charts are interactive so you can click on most places for other neat info and comparisons.

"Please"

Nice to see a good-sized "please" in the cloud. R3volutionaries are polite!

Jon, your exhortation to use a browser other than IE would be wisely heeded by anyone!

Nice cloud, and a wonderful contribution.

Are you sure that wasn't "PUHLEEZE"

very cool.

yeah, but that just makes an image

I've been thinking of arranging one similar to that, but automatically updated with relevant links, like mine, now that CSS3:transforms can rotate text.

Though as art for the sake of art, of course wordle can be appreciated.

wheres the word "Paul" ?

wheres the word "Paul" ?

If you click on

"alternate link" it's there as big as day.

Ah! Thanks for asking: too big.

Dr. Paul's last name always dwarfs the second-largest topic by at least a factor of ~2, usually more depending on the day. Take a look. I didn't think it too blasphemous to assume Dr. Paul is always on our mind, and doesn't need restatement, so aside from some generic take away words, I take out "paul", and only "paul", in a later step.

Unacceptable?

#

Is there a way to have a maximum size limit?

and everything else factors down from that? You'd probably need a minimum limit too so they don't get too small.

well, of course

I was just using a prefab wordcloud gadget to show proof of concept & if there was any interest to further spend time. The more I hear, the more inclined I am to make my own to do exactly whatever I want, that being one of them.

Brilliant

I'm lovin' this. Great way to view information. Thanks so much for your efforts.

The carousel

is neat but it went around kinda fast is there a way to slow it down? Wow, you are very talented, thanks for sharing this with us.

it's dependent on where your cursor is

closer to center=slower. You're right, maybe it's too sensitive...

Wait, so you can see it fine? What's the difference? Hm..

#

Thanks, my favorite is the

carousel I am starting to get the hang of it.

scrollwheeling should zoom

too. And once you click, you drag to spin.

Think any variation of this would be useful? I originally had it smaller with white text on a dark red background.

I don't mean to be gimmicky; I'm trying to think of things to improve this site from the outside.

#

Whatever way it is easiest to

read is always best. The red with white sounds interesting. My only problem with it is when I am trying to read it the words underneath can interfere with the perspective of what is in front. Is there a way to have like a curtain or wall, the threads come over the wall, the wall is a background so it would be really easy to read and then it slips under the wall going back to the top. I don't know anything about computers so this may sound really dumb and sorry if it is confusing.

I got errors

first link said Error on Page and the others just said Done! but it was just a white background.

Jon

I clicked all 3 links - all went to a google page but were blank.

Ideas sound great to me... what am I doing wrong?

gasp!

really?

Hmmm...does this wordcloud link work? Which browser are you using?

How about this other one?

#

nope neither work, dang

but this computer I am on right now is running the little (ms) blue e. That might be my problem.

Anyone else try?

perhaps

it is too late this evening?

let's see

what happens now...?
