Ron Paul Returns Over $100,000 to the Treasury

digg / reddit

Washington, D.C. - Congressman Ron Paul has continued to run his Congressional office in a frugal manner, and was able to return more than $100,000 from his allotted office budget to the Treasury this year, an increase over the $90,000 returned last year.

“Since my first year in Congress representing the 14th district I have managed my office in a frugal manner, instructing staff to provide the greatest possible service to the people of the 14th district at the least possible cost to taxpayers,” said Paul.

So does anyone know how the

So does anyone know how the office budgets work? Does each congressman get the same amount of money to run their offices? What is that amount of money? Does Nancy Pelosi get to allot herself more money since she's the self-appointed queen?

Long story short....

Yes, Pelosi and other House leaders get more (including Boehner, etc). To find out exactly how much....someone smarter than me needs to help.

Just throwing that out there.

Are you serious?

Getting more done in Congress? You are probably on the wrong site, as most of us advocate Congress doing less. But that's okay, keep reading. You, too, can learn.

I don't know how often you go into the halls of Congress, but you have to work with other rep's & senators if you want to do something. that includes cutting programs, waste etc.

As RP's grandson...

...I'll bet he has been in the halls of congress a few times. :-)

It's a conundrum

It's a conundrum. Ron wants to change government, but he's a part of government. Ron wants to deliver more for less, but delivering the most for nothing would mean ending his career in politics. The remaining politicians have no interest in returning money to the the Treasury or anywhere else, for that matter, so they gain power.

can you imagine a campaign commercial on this point alone??

People would really get it... (may seem small..but the average joe..would realize that is who they want in the white house!!)

The members budgets are called MRAs. Each Congress person operates with a 1.3 - 1.9 million dollar budget. Ron does good but there are people that run a tighter budget.

Guess the Chronicle forgot to look into that.

The Man is unreal!

I can't believe this! This man is Thomas Jefferson or Washington in our midst. I would follow Ron Paul down the barrel of a cannon! He is my president.

I am going to forward this to Jack Cafferty.

I'd like to see RP interviewed on this subject. I think people's ears would really prick up with those numbers. Actions speaking much more loudly than words!

this is a perfect simple sound bite for

The rest of Congress and the

The rest of Congress and the president should hang their heads in shame for being all too willing to spend the people's money in order to win their favor and their votes.

Americans need to wake up and throw these bums out, before it's too late for our Republic. And keep throwing them out until we get more men and women who adhere to Ron Paul's honesty, integrity and principles.

Next step...

Fire most of his staff. They are way overpaid and are 9/11 liars and have publicly ridiculed Debra Medina, her staff and the rest of us, especially Jeff Frazee and Don Rasmussen. http://www.legistorm.com/member/413/Rep_Ron_Paul.html

what's this about?

I guess it's sarcasm, but I don't get why something like this is posted.

What's the treasury gonna do

What's the treasury gonna do with it? They're going to waste it on wars and insolvent corporations. I question the benefit to taxpayers and average americans. Any money in the hands of the government is wasted money, maybe he should've bought pencils and paper with it.

It's symbolic...

and shows that he's not just hot air, practices what he preaches. You're right that the money will just be wasted, but it's a worthy gesture.

We could save millions of tax payer dollars ...

... if every other congress man/woman would do what Ron Paul has been doing all these years. I sent the press release to Drudge. That would be a great place for it to be posted.

Wow! I had no idea he was saving so much!

With brings up the question, if Dr. Paul was able to save and return $100,000 how much is each representative given!

It's not exactly frugality

On principle he doesn't participate in the lucrative congressional payment plan.

But if fully practiced overall, it would probably be at least 50 million dollars (535*100k=$53,500,000).
