Ron Paul on CBS News: Fed Needs to Clear the Air on its History

The Federal Reserve may grow in power under the Senate's plans for financial reform, but Rep. Ron Paul (R-Texas) said on Washington Unplugged today that Congress has abdicated its oversight responsibilities, allowing the Fed to funnel money to whomever it pleases -- even possibly the Watergate burglars.

Regardless of whether such a plot is true, "it gives you a good reason to audit the Federal Reserve," Paul told moderator Bob Schieffer.

Paul and other legislators have blasted Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke, charging he has failed to maintain sound credit markets, among other things. Paul has led a popular legislative effort to audit the Fed.

At a congressional hearing last month at which Bernanke testified, Paul charged the Federal Reserve with facilitating the Watergate burglars, as well as funneling $5.5 billion to Saddam Hussein in the 1980s. Bernanke called the allegations "bizarre."

On Unplugged today, Paul said his charges are backed up by a book by former House Financial Services Committee staffer Robert Auerbach, now a professor at the University of Texas.

Ron Paul's respone of "the

Ron Paul's respone of "the irresponsible thing to do" is to not audit the fed...what a great answer!

Dr. Paul should have said...

"Well Bob, you were a reporter back then, don't you remember these stories, many credible reporters covered them...didn't you? Besides, since you are the reporter here, perhaps you should be looking into these issues honestly and without bias, to see if they have merit, instead of dismissing what I say as incredulous or conspiratory. Any reporter worth their salt could find facts out about this with a little digging...especially someone like yourself who is so well connected with the Washington establishment!"

IN YOUR FACE SCHIEFFER!!!

Just once I would like to see one of these CFR windbags slammed back into there place!

"I AM NOT ANTI-GOVERNMENT...I'M AGAINST THE CRIMINALS WHO HAVE INFESTED, CAPTURED AND EXPLOITED IT AT THE EXPENSE OF THE GOVERNED!" me!

I'd love to see that, but Ron

I'd love to see that, but Ron Paul is too classy. Jesse Ventura or Peter Schiff would do it...

CBS interview!

Wow, that's gotta be the first time I've seen Ron Paul on CBS. What do you know, they're actually still around. From Bob Schieffer's questioning it seems like nothing has changed on that network CBS--all you "see" is "BS".

For me also the big news is

For me also the big news is that Ron Paul is interviewed by CBS.
Next ABC and NBC!

Of course nothing has changed, but Ron is so experienced that he doesn't MSM BS effect on him and it just helps him to strike even more straight forward; like this Schieffer's questioning about "irresponsibility".

By the way Ron is the king of responsi-bility in his "ability to respond" to BS.

"Air is the very substance of our freedom, the substance of superhuman joy....aerial joy is freedom."--Gaston Bachelard--

they butchered the editing of this clip, with Ron Paul's sources

for raising questions never laid to rest. It makes it sound as if the commentator's 'is it responsible to raise this without evidence' wasn't really answered, when it was.

The point of Ron Paul's questions to Bernanke, however, were that the Fed stonewalling investigations has gone on for some time, and needs to end with proper audits.

Federal Reserve equals the new "Money Trust."

The VERY THING that the FED was supposedly created to destroy.

Pawnstorm

Loved it when....

I loved it when Bob says, incredulously, "you don't have any proof that the Fed gave $5.5 billion to Saddam, do you, these are just baseless allegations, right?"

Ron Paul: "It is a self-evident fact we gave him the money. The Fed won't even deny it! This just goes to show you that our foreign and monetary policy are connected at the hip, and that our foreign policy is insane!"

To which, Bob should have been floored and knocked off his rocker, and thinking, I'm gonna get a Pulitzer for this mind-blowing revelation that I just uncovered on national news.

Instead Bob says, "Thanks for being on our show, you always have an INTERESTING point of view."

Bob is in the typical "you conspiracy nutcase!" mode, and Ron Paul completely makes Bob look like the idiot, all the while never denying the conspiracy fact, and making it look like it's self-evident.

This was a very interesting interview indeed!!!

"It is well enough that people of the nation do not understand our banking and monetary system, for if they did, I believe there would be a revolution before tomorrow morning." - Henry Ford

I love how he completely ignored the book citation

and only heard "Internet? That new-fangled television? Poppycock, I say! Now, my teleprompter has bolded I repeat the same question:..."

Wonder if Bob has ever even

Wonder if Bob has ever even used this new fangled internet thing everyone has been talking about lately with all their electronic mail, Tweeters, and Facebooks and all...

Get back to your Xerox typewriter and write some news pal!

For Heaven's Sake, where has

For Heaven's Sake, where has Bob been the last 40 years?? What was he doing in 1973 as the Watergate scandal broke? Was he an apologist for Nixon? or was he a young broadcaster, a journalist dedicated to breaking the whole story, finding the facts, getting to the bottom of the truth? HAH! Now he's just a broken down old man, a worn-out cog in the establishment machine. What a pathetic shame.

Scheiffer needs a casket.

Scheiffer needs a casket. He's so dead in the head he can't get the idea that Watergate was a government sanctioned operation. Duh. Then who did it?!
The Girl Scouts!?
Stupid bastard.

Like he doesn't have a research team who could just pull the MSM news accounts from archives.

They always act so astonished when they hear it come out of Ron Paul's but THEY reported the original stories!
Amazing!

"GINO" = Government In Name Only

What was interesting about this interview....

was the difference between these two men who are probably about the same age.

Scheiffer looks OOOOLLLLLDDDDD, and completely out of touch with the new media. He has clearly never been on the internet, so sees it as some sort of "voodoo". He looks like "an old curmudgeon" who is well past his prime.

Ron Paul, on the other hand looks vibrant and chipper, and is up to date on modern technology and on his issues. He didn't back down and knew his stuff.

Schieffer to Paul:

Aren't you in reality just a kooky deadwood congressman who's spreading irresponsible rumors?

Bob Schieffer for lazy journalism

It seems like Bob Schieffer didn't do any research into the topics he would be questioning Paul about before the interview began. It's almost as if he was trying to denigrate Paul's views with his own ignorance.

"he was trying to denigrate

"he was trying to denigrate Paul's views with his own ignorance."

great point and well said!

Ventura 2012

Not only that, he's about the densest

interviewer I've heard. Dr. Paul clearly outlined his sources and their credentials each time the flabbergasted question was asked and it just couldn't penetrate Schieffer's "don't question Authority" mindset; then at the end he was so uncomfortable with Ron's firm position he had to act as though Dr. Paul was not quite tenable, alway "interesting," as in kooky.

I wish Ron Paul would've just

I wish Ron Paul would've just said:

"Bob, go online and Google it. You're going to find mainstream news articles written about this very subject. Also Bob, go buy Robert Auerbach's book"

Or better yet, Ron Paul should have all the news links on his own RonPaul.com website...

But Bob pretty much said...

...that he doesn't trust anything on the internet. So I don't how much good that would've done. Maybe for people watching...

informative article and interview

I love how the interviewer kept trying to get Dr. Paul to make "bizarre" statements, but he avoided the traps and stuck to the facts. Ron Paul 1, MSM stooge 0.

Fed Creates Debt Out of Thin Air, Bills US w/ Interest

Fed secretly creates accounting entries on its books.
No independent audit. Private bank. They control IRS.

They buy what they want.

They they loan to whom they want.

You taxpayers can buy 100% of the Fed for about $500 M. Read: Federal Reserve Act, 1913.

US Fed Reserve Big w/ Big Friends

The US Fed Reserve has inflated itself. Comedians unite! Their funny business may put us out of business.

1. The US Fed Reserve: Creates and passes out US Legal Tender (not money). Several $ trillions created last year. Much of it given to their friends here and abroad. They work for themselves. Reported $54 Billion profit, 2009. Fantasy! They make their legal tender out of thin air. Then they make you believe we must pay them principal and interest on their loans to God knows who.

Nearly all countries now have a Central Bank run by private, secretive bankers.

Created in in the dark of night just before Christmas, 1913.

2. Depository Trust Clearing Corp. (DTCC.COM): Approx. $ 2 Quadrillion annual cash flow. Serious? Where is mine? $1.8 Q was posted YE 2008. Near that for YE 2009 should be reported by now. Most payment transactions required by law to use them (est. 99%). Records who did what to whom with money (follow the money by investigating their records). Monopoly.

What could you do if you knew almost every financial transaction in the US? What could you do with a cash flow of $2 Quadrillion?

They work for the Fed.

3. CEDE Corp.: $ 23 Trillion in assets. Pretty much all US based paper assets owned by them (you hold the rights to trade and cash dividends). As long as sellers and buyers both use CEDE, their ownership persists. They eliminated most of the paper stock and bonds certificates. All ones and zeroes now.

They work for the Fed.

4. Internal Rev. Service (IRS): $2 Trillion plus per year. $1 T income tax + 1 T payroll tax. They service the national debt. The US National Debt is owed to the US Fed (and others buying US Bonds). They believe in the 16th Amendment. I don't. See, "The Law That Never Was" investigated and litigated by Benson.
http://www.thelawthatneverwas.com/

Also US District Court decision confirming several states never ratified it.

Chartered and run out of Puerto Rico. Created 1913.

They work for the Fed.

You're right about Carly

I heard her speak at the Orange County Republican Central Committee. They are definitely pushing her. No other candidate for Senator was asked to speak.
She went on and on about her bout with cancer and how she's a fabulous person. She wants government to make jobs. She's just another Republican RINO.
