LA Times: Trevor Lyman Article
Great story about a guy who has been invaluable to the Ron Paul Campaign. He deflects the credit, and says he did his part.
In case you missed it, Trevor is largely responsible for the November 5th Money Bomb, the Blimp and now the Boston Tea Party. This is from a guy who has never voted in his life.
"There must have been some magic in... that old laptop he found..."
By the way, this just to pause for a moment to celebrate one person of millions - not to say he carried this all by himself. He was a catalys, and a good one.
I didn't mean to imply that he ALONE is responsible. He just did some really great work and drew national attention. It's like if a football player broke free and ran down the field and scored, then he'd be deserving of some time in the spotlight.
But it's the campaign, all of us, that are the real force.
Maybe the LA Times or the Boston Globe will do a story on Michael Nystrom, for setting up Daily Paul. This site has allowed thousands of people to come together to share some hope and experience during the campaign. He's another guy who deserves a gold cup or a pat on the back or a round of drinks.
There are countless others. Many have sacrificed. I have read of people who gave money to the campaign instead of buying an extra Christmas present, or get a new car. The self-sacrifice is pretty amazing. I got an email from BlackSurferDude who has just made two great videos. The list is long and wonderful.
Maybe someday, when Ron Paul is having his inauguration party, we can all get together and toast each other.

Trevor, Hats Off to You
And Hats Off to my fellow Ron Paul supporters too, I am deeply grateful to all of you for pulling me out of the slough of Despondency. There is "Hope For America", thank you, Ron Paul, for proving it!
What is more interesting is
What is more interesting is that this is a people's revolt--not just of one person. I think ALL played our roles and so pitting one above others will only divide us, not unite us.
Think of it this way. If Trevor did not do it, someone else will.
Of course
.
This has been a team effort. But, like football, if one guy runs down the field and scores a touchdown, then you want to take a moment and pat him on the back.
Amen
Glad to be on the team with you all.

Trevor is a Hero
Trevor did not take credit where it wasn't due, and he even said himself that he played "only his part". But what a part he played. We are all hero's in this historic effort. But Trevor's role is one of leadership and vision.
Trevor, we love you! You've helped encourage all of us, and together we will win.
But we're not quite there yet. Time to hit the streets all across America, talk to our neighbors, knock on their doors, and encourage them to vote for our #1 Hero. We must take immediate advantage of the media attention we'll get this weekend. So, hit the streets folks, all next week and throughout the holidays.
Bring voter registration forms with you, and ask your neighbors for their support and their vote. Don't let this opportunity pass you by. Now it's time to emulate another hero in this campaign: Vijay Boyaparti. Since Vijay quit his job to campaign full time, then the least the rest of us can do is to knock on at least 200 doors each between now and the primaries.
No more excuses! Do it Now. Do it to win.

Get REAL!
This hero worship is getting sickening. The November 5th fundraiser, nor the December 16th fundraiser were even his ideas!!! He was just the first of many people who were building a website for 11/5. He was just the first one to get finished. Period. He didn't even build the Tea Party website, nor does he own it. He wanted to get involved in it, so the owner let him. What has he done? Just sent out a few emails, but primarily for the purpose of promoting his new business interest. As of the writing of this post, he hasn't even sent out an email on the most important days of this whole thing and the reason the people joined teaparty07 to begin with. He didn't send one out the day before the Tea Party and he hasn't yet sent one out on the DAY of the tea party!
If you want to thank anyone, thank ALL the grassroots. All the people who made videos, wrote articles, made widgets, made banners, wrote articles, made posts, sent emails, wrote songs and yes, even those who donated the money!
You are doing a great disservice to the Ron Paul campaign by mistakenly giving all the credit for the grassroots success to one man. It is not only a lie, but it is setting all of us up. Can you not see that? Geez!!

I agree. Just bec Bydlak did
I agree. Just bec Bydlak did not play a significant role in RP fund raising does not mean he could appoint THE person to take the credit for all this fund raising. At least I'd give Bydlak the credit to realize it was NOT him. But that does not mean that he can credit it to ONE person.
What's with this idol worshipping? Don't you guys realize it is WE THE PEOPLE?
For who did better, the person who gave 1 cent or the person who gave 1 million $?
JB deserves credit too...
I've written about this before, but feel that I cannot let Jon Bydlak be mistakenly maligned. He was a primary factor in getting the "transparency" of the fund-raising numbers out there in the first place -- keep in mind that NO OTHER CAMPAIGN HAS EVER DONE THAT! He was instrumental in convincing the campaign to TRUST the grassroots and then worked hard to get the initial "Fill-The-Quill" and the first Thermometer up, and the real-time API that Dan then took and turned into the RonPaulGraphs website.
And without the real-time API data feed and the real-time RonPaulGraphs that Dan put up, people would NOT have been able to begin experimenting with those initial "money bombs."
Without all of those things, for which Jon deserves a LOT of the credit, November5th would probably never have happened.
So Jon DOES deserve credit... credit for helping create a mechanism that EMPOWERED the grass roots to "do our thing!" Without someone FROM the grassroots (like Jon) who had the vision and the fortitude to push and cajole and demonstrate the value of such a real-time fund-raising feedback system, none of this would have happened. (Instead, we would be sitting in the dark wondering how much Ron Paul has raised this quarter... and waiting until mid-January to find out!)
--------------------
( At the same time, I too was a MORE than a little bit "ticked" at Jon's post-Nov5th diatribe email. But I DO understand where he [and the pressure the campaign staff was doubtless putting onto him] were coming from -- in that it has to be REALLY DIFFICULT to budget staff and advertising and etc w/o going into debt, and yet to USE the money properly -- and doubly so if you have NO CLUE how much you're going to have and when. And how can ANYONE know... we love guessing, but none of us has any claim to accuracy... this is a whole new ball game!)
Trevor's the freaking man!
I sincerely thank him for his efforts and sacrifices. I gave $1100 on 11/5 to do my part, but without his innovation, this campaign wouldn't have nearly the positive press and momentum it currently has. And Trevor didn't do it for any selfish reason, just wanted to help a candidate with the right principles. It's a microcosm of the entire Paul campaign.
Write to the author
May I suggest we write to the author and EXPLAIN to him WHY ...
1) Ron Paul Can win
2) its ANTI-Democratic for he and others to make the "race" out to be a "horse race" rather than an issues discussion.
3) That he and others in the print and TV media were guilty as all heck for failing to get the Iraq WMD story right. There was no excuse for this. Knight Ridder news had it right from day one in 2002. Yellow Journalism is certainly an ugly color, and the LA Times and all the other major newspapers and TV pundits are wearing it these days. ITs a nasty yellow color, and it shines bright every time they write about Ron Paul and slam him as an "isolationist" which he is not. Ron Paul is not an INVASIONIST like eveyone else. Further more, INVASIONIST policies are indeed Isolating the USA. For the Record, Ron Paul is a NON interventionist.
4) By telling the public who can win, who will not win, your voice is like a loud speaker and makes it all a self fullfilling.
5) We are sick and tired of this kind of "reporting" which always trys to find explainations for things that totally ignores the ideas and vision behind them. A full discusions of the ideas is what is rarely seen in the newspapers. Instead we get bullet sentances with catch phrases and lots and lots of punditry on "who's going win?". A question that is secondary to a real democracy. The freedom of the press is in total danger of an American imposed Military maintained Marshal Law.... it will be newspapers like these that feel the choke hold. Perhaps its time writers like these start taking ideas more seriously rather than waist our time telling use who is going to win from looking at your crystal ball.
6) Trevor is but one small player in the big wide Revolution. He heard the November 5th idea from some one else, made the website. Get over it.

"A question that is secondary to a real democracy."
A real *what*?
I wrote the author an email alright, but mine was short and sweet. I told him to keep up the good work. That article was very good; one of the most straightforward I've seen in the Old Media about the RP phenomenon.

Trevor is not responsible. We are!
Trevor played his part and is to be commended for his efforts in this campaign, but it's completely untrue and unfair to say that he is responsible for November 5th or the Tea Party. We, the grassroots fire that is fueling this campaign, are responsible for these fundraising days. Trevor didn't create either day. They were thought of by other supporters. Trevor didn't create the hundreds of videos on youtube or post all across the internet to spread the message. We did. This is a group effort, but one that isn't coordinated or directed. We worked together. We worked separately. We did it for a common cause - for the love of our America and for the love of freedom. It's time that Ron Paul supporters started patting themselves on the backs for what they have done to change this country. Trevor is important, but let's not forget how important we are as well.
Trevor knows...
...that we're all responsible.
Several people in my meetup group and I had the pleasure of meeting Trevor at the Blimp launch. Of course, we thanked him, to which he replied, "no, thank YOU". We all agreed that he is a very humble and unassuming young man. He even seemed a bit surprised when I asked him to autograph my sign.
To me, Trevor is a great example of what happens when restraints are removed, no one is the boss, and all that creative energy is released. This is what Freedom in action looks like and great things can be accomplished. It seems like Ron Paul folks are so good at thinking outside the box, most have thrown the whole box away!
I can't think of any one Ron Paul supporter I've met who feels the need to take credit or stand out for a great idea. Instead, brilliant ideas are freely shared and spread like wildfire. Yes, we can pat ourselves on the backs and energize ourselves for more. The sky's the limit!
I am glad he remains humble
in the spirit and following the example of our "leader" Ron Paul.
That's the way it should be - and that is the REALITY - it is a movement that is only possible with each and every one of us doing our part, and joining in the effort. Ron Paul knws it, and apparently Trevor realizes it as well. Great! Trevor, because of your humility you have my admiration.
funny how that works, huh?
Of course everyone had a
Of course everyone had a huge net effect, but it was the so-called tipping point of November 5th, and the fact that Trevor capitalized on this that set fire to the campaign fundraising. You must admit that all fundraising prior to that date was rather uneventful... as a matter of fact, it was lackluster. With the full involvement of the public now, fundraising and recognition is accelerating geometrically.
Nov. 5 was great, as is Trevor IMO...
But I don't think our pre-Nov. 5th fundraising was lackluster. The media coverage may have been that way, due to their bias, but considering all factors I was already VERY happy with how the money situation was going. My concern was & still is with all the media-bias we've seen.
I know, from having once been one myself, that political candidates who have run as a large-L Libertarian know how to run efficient campaigns MUCH better than those who don't have that harrowing experience. Ron Paul has done it, too. But we should not get too comfortable, because of all the media bias if nothing else. This will be a tough fight.
