The Six Million Dollar Man - In One Day!!

Watch the complete proceedings from yesterday's Tea Party in Boston

I'm not exactly sure what the final tally was, because last night the campaign's server apparently crashed..

This morning the LA Times blog is reporting that the campaign raised $6 million, breaking it's old record.

If the reported number holds up when officially reported to the Federal Election Commission in early January, Paul will not only be the only Republican candidate to oppose the Iraq war, he'll be the only GOP candidate to increase fundraising totals each quarter this year--from $640,000 to $2.4 million to $5.1 million to whatever this quarter's final total becomes above $18 million with two weeks to go.

Way to go Revolution! We are making history.

This just in from the official site:

Ron Paul Raises $6 Million in One Day (12/17/07)

Candidate has most successful fundraising day in American political history

ARLINGTON, VIRGINIA -- Congressman Ron Paul’s presidential campaign had a record fundraising day yesterday.

In a 24-hour period on December 16, the campaign raised $6.026 million dollars, surpassing the one-day record of $5.7 million held by John Kerry.

During the day, over 58,000 people contributed to Dr. Paul’s campaign, including 24,940 first-time donors. Over 118,000 Americans have donated to the campaign in the fourth quarter.
The $6 million one-day total means the campaign has raised over $18 million this quarter, far exceeding its goal of $12 million.

"We have the right message: freedom, peace and prosperity," said Ron Paul 2008 campaign chairman Kent Snyder. "We also have the right candidate: Dr. Ron Paul."

Congressman Paul will be campaigning in Iowa today and will be holding a press conference at 12:45 pm at the Des Moines Marriott in the Des Moines Room.

A Word on Focus as we Move Forward

I have been watching the campaign with much interest, and truly believe that Ron Paul is the best candidate out there. Yet it seems to me that if the Revolution is to succeed, we must move beyond money bombs to themes that have broader appeal - these themes must be highlighted by the campaign and by all of us. If we are going to promote Ron Paul as a serious candidate, and front runner, as I think we should, I think we would be best served by the following:
1. Emphasizing the economy. Point to the disparity between rich and poor, the ballooning federal deficit, and the trade deficit with China. The cost of living keeps going up, the cost of health care, college education, even transportation is becoming unbearable for the lower and middle classes who are being deprived of economic gains of the last 10 years. The threat of inflation keeps rising, the dollar keeps losing value. None of the other candidates seem to be taking this seriously.
2. Ron Paul is the only candidate that questions our role as an international police force in any meaningful way. It is important to point out that we have troops in 100+ countries, more than 700 bases... That we are spending billions minding other people's business instead of taking care of our own.
3. Ron Paul is the only candidate who believes federal spending is out of control and wants to decrease the size of the government. He is the only candidate who is not going to funnel more money into federal bureaucratic structures that have no proven track record, but instead is proposing real solutions on a local level where change can really take place.

Things I believe do not have broad appeal and detract form the seriousness of the Ron Paul campaign:
1. Talk of ending the IRS. While Ron Paul would work toward this, and certainly this would be a good thing, he has also spoken about the need to reign in the power of the executive branch. Would he really have the ability to close down the IRS as president? Is it not better rhetoric to speak of drastically cutting the size of the federal government, and working to lower federal income taxes? Ron Paul will be president, not dictator. To speak of closing down the IRS makes most people think that Ron Paul is not a realist, but is out in the clouds somewhere. This couldn't be further from the truth, but again the rhetoric needs to be toned down in this regard to attract a larger voter base.
2. It seems to me that the campaign needs to do everything it can to make sure that its opposition to big government does not get mixed up with conspiracy theories. This will not win votes.
3. If the campaign is going to win over Christian voters, Ron Paul needs to make it clear that he is not simply in favor of letting everyone do whatever they want, but that he wants these decisions to be made on a local/state/community level. He should articulate more clearly the principle of subsidiarity, which is a Christian principle, just as he has articulated just war theory. Christians need to understand that he does not believe that prostitution and machine guns are good - he just thinks that the federal government has no right and no ability to regulate these matters.

As a whole, it seems to me that the campaign needs to show that it not only has the grassroots support of a few or even many disenfranchised voters, but that it also has the support of a silent majority of Americans who are concerned with the economic and political situation in which the country finds itself, and who believe that Ron Paul is the only candidate who is seriously addressing the issues that confront us. The stakes are high, and that is why voters like myself, who may not agree with every thing that comes out of Ron Paul's mouth, nevertheless believe that he is the only candidate who has the integrity, intelligence, and courage to lead us through the coming years.

One last note: it seems to me that Ron Paul's nomination hinges on three things: that the economy continue to falter, the other candidates continue to be shown to be the gutless opportunists that they are, and the war in Iraq continue to drag on. This is why I happen to be particularly hopeful that Ron Paul has a shot at the nomination. But if we, his supporters, are going to truly build a groundswell around him, we must begin to really highlight the popular appeal and straightforward pragmatism of his message. There is plenty yet to be done.

Thank You!

I registered with the site just so I could say: "Great Post!"
These are very good suggestions, and I hope people take note. If we want to win, we are going to have to market Ron Paul.

Very insightful comments.

Very insightful comments. You'd be a great addition to the campaign staff. I agree about broadening the appeal of Ron Paul's message, and in particular the idea that a president is not a dictator and they would have serious problems being effective once elected if there were no public consensus supporting their positions. Even if a president could somehow be elected with nothing but widespread public support, he/she would not have free reign to do whatever they wanted. Additionally, although laudable, the goal of eliminating the IRS and going back to the gold standard may be more valuable as threats than actualities. For these things to happen may take decades of effort. With as many interests as we currently have that are dependent on the IRS for their livelihood, we could certainly expect a deep Depression with literally thousands upon thousands of people suddenly taken off the public payrolls. I'm not one to shrink from such a task, but the aligned interests are dead set against changing.

We should have a "Ron Pauliday"

I have never felt so ignited by a candidate. I have a new passion and desire to know and understand my country. No other candidate or election cycle has ever driven me to seek out as much information about the issues, and it really has little to do with Ron Paul, as a politician. He is merely a conduit, a gateway for spreading the message of self-guided action and liberated choice. So many of the previous bloggers have said it better than I, so I will say just this.. HAVE A HAPPY RON PAULIDAY !!!!

Anyone noticed that Feb 5th

Anyone noticed that Feb 5th ( a major primary day) is the anniversary of the Constitution!!??

Venus and Jupiter will also be aligned.

Seriously..

shrugs. :)

oh wait...I think that's for

oh wait...I think that's for Mexico. Why the heck to we have Mexico's junk on our calendars??

In all humility, we have already made history; now let us make

greater history.

Superbowl Ad???

Now that there is an abundance of funds, what is the consensus about the possibility of a Super Bowl ad? Would it be against the message of limited spending or would it be worth the tremendous cost to get Dr. Paul's name out on the most watched televised event of the year? I believe it's at $2.6 mil for a 30 second ad. Ouch.

Superbowl Ad!!

Hey, great idea! It worked very well for the Apple Mac in 1984 with thier groundbreaking commercial for the 1st macintosh, and the legacy stands today!

One advert could be seen by millions, if its effective who knows??

Get local news coverage

One way to partially overcome the lack of national news coverage is to act locally and get local news coverage. The Tea Party provided a great opportunity for a local news story with a tie-in to the national story about the fund raising. A local TV station was glad to cover our event. A simple thing like having the stenciled "tea crates" created a good visual for the news. (Thanks to the Santa Monica Meetup group from whom we got the ideas and inspiration for our event).

an official "businesses for ron paul" site?

Does anyone else think it would be a good idea to create a website where businesses in support of Ron Paul are listed by category? I would propose that, to be listed on this site, you would have to post a "We support the Ron Paul Revolution" banner prominently on your business's home page. I have done so on my business's page at www.tfconcepts.com. I'm not after a shameless plug--I actually got the idea from a banner I saw on www.ronpaulgraphs.com for a pet supply company. I just think if businesses could be encouraged to openly declare their support then all of their customers would see the logo and be exposed to the message. Anybody agree?

I could host it and do the database programming if someone would help me with design. I have servers, but I'm not a great web designer from a graphical standpoint.

For Johnpp2

I think it's a great idea. How about RonPaulYellowpages.com ? Any business owner that has donated to the campaign could be on the site with special marketing privalages to those that donate $2,300 or more (obviously would have to include spouse's donation).

Furthermore, if donors give the okay the campaign could sell the names of donors to the businesses at a cost thereby making it a business transaction just like selling shirts or other material. Perhaps the businesses could write the name purchase off as a marketing cost. Any accountants / Campaign Financeers?

How do we make it happen? email me at cicopti@gmail.com

This is an excellent idea!

This is an excellent idea! Smart and simple as well.

Just heard about it on MSNBC

Record breaking day, etc.

Of course they immediately say the last fund raising day was Guy Fawkes day, commemorating blowing up Parliament.

I am sick to death of every positive being spun negatively. It is inescapable.

Who cares about Lieberman or McCain? Can't they interview Ron Paul when he has a newsworthy day instead of putting HC's fugly mug on the tube for 5 minutes?

The only thing that will get

The only thing that will get more attention is going into the newsrooms of the news organizations and confronting them (non-violently) directly. Let the infiltration begin!

McCain Liberman

Thanks everyone for the fantastic results yesterday. It sickens me that the media have decided to totally bypass the story. McCain played his card perfectly with the Liberman endorsement. Any mention of Ron Paul is precluded by the endorsement and followed by Clinton's Boston Globe endorsement. It's so very sad that Dan Fogelberg and Celine Dion get more coverage than Dr. Paul. Pathetic. Absolutely pathetic.

They started the day with

They started the day with approximately 11,552,000 dollars.

Last night, right before the server crashed, it said 17,980,000.

17,980,000 - 11,552,000 = 6.428 million

Why do they have it listed as only being 6.026 mil on their press release?

Seems like they're shorting themselves over $400,000 and failing to surpass HRC's fictitious #1 spot as well.

Why fictional?

I keep hearing that Killary's record is bogus. Why do people keep saying that? I've never heard the reason.

Hillary's fictional record

She reported $6.2 mil on June 30th, the last day of the 2nd quarter, but couldn't prove that the donations came on one day. It has been reported that she held donations for several days before depositing them all at once.

In other words, she "fixed" the results.

-dave

"The smallest minority on earth is the individual. Those who deny individual rights cannot claim to be defenders of minorities." - Ayn Rand

SHE STINKS TO HIGH HEAVEN - Michael Savage in reference to Dianne Fienstein

She had 6.2 million in

She had 6.2 million in pledges. Only 3.1 million of those pledges was actually collected.

Woot for Ron Paul!

I am glad to be a part of this Revolution. There is little better I could be doing with my life right now.

I saw 17.9 million the last time I could...

...at about 11:45 EST, and, given the site's own estimate of 11.6 million at midnight the 16th, that is a rise of at least 6.3 million, beating Hillary's bogus 6.2 million in one day. Boo yeah!

Did we beat the record?

Let's hope this beats the all time record. If so this will really send a message. I think it would have been at least 25% higher if the media would give RP a fair shake. I keep seeing them put up the top 5 Republican candidates in graphics and Ron Paul is never included. CNN, NBC and Fox always show Huckabee, Romney, Giulianni, Thompsen, and McCain. Makes it hard to get any traction.

All For One and One For All

Might be a good slogan for Ron Paul Nation.

Rhymes nicely.

No... Paul for all, all for Paul

:-)

I wrote it down :)

As anal as I am, thank goodness, I kept a blow by blow tally of the total until 11:59 eastern time last night. According to my numbers (the actual starting amount was higher), at 11:59 eastern dec 15th, the total was $11,551,006. The total on the screen on www.ronpauforpresident200... (which is usually behind 1 minute from the total on www.ronpaul2008.com was (Drum roll):

$17,980,156 If I would have known that the system was going to crash I would have taken a picture of it. According to the screen, before the system went down, the totals in the 24 hour period were over 6.4 million dollars! We'll see if my figures are correct.

PRESIDENT RON PAUL !!!

17980

Actually it was at 17,980 for almost a full 5 minutes. People reported donating, but the total never went up. So the ticker was wrong the final midnight total was above 17,980, what it was I have no idea...

Media blackout

Long Island's major newspaper, Newsday, had articles today about Obama's, Huckabee's, and Ghouliani's campaigns, but not a word about Paul's $6 million day. News Long Island, on the other hand, has a very nice article about the success of the tea party. So now I know which news source I can trust.

CONGRATULATIONS!

The success of the American people in restoring the republic is at hand. It reverberates all over the world. Congratulations.

I was so excited, but I rarely checked the sites. I just waited and hoped. a little less server load for this important day. When I saw it was over 6million, I was aghast! WOW! Hope shines all the way from you all to us here 9300+miles away.

Please be careful though, I had read about this. Your success means that the empire will be desperate.

Server crash

Who knows what we lost thanks to the server crash? That is why I recommended that people not hold off until the last hour to make their donations. That's also why it's better to make one donation of $100 than four separate $25 donations on a money bomb day.

things were temporarily down even @ 10:45p

before succeeding - luckily - with split contribution: we strongly agree with you

Good point

Also, how many donations did we lose because the system gave error messages? I heard many people tried to give donations and couldn't.

I'm sure there will be future money bombs. People need to give early and all at once and the campaign needs to upgrade their servers.

Just Mentioned on Fox Radio News

They just mentioned the fund raising on the top of the hour Fox radio news, just after mentioning McCain's new endorsement. In typical Fox fashion they said "The money hasn't yet translated into numbers in the polls, but Ron Paul says he's working on it."

The Real Question is...

...How is Dr. Paul going to spend all this money????

Lack of money is no excuse

Lack of money is no excuse any more. Strategic thinking is a sorely lacking element in the campaign camp, so a seasoned political strategist, who has a history of winning campaigns MUST be hired post haste! Send those e-mails to the campaign. Ron must get on the game or continue to be shut out.

-- "...How is Dr. Paul going

-- "...How is Dr. Paul going to spend all this money????"

I read an article yesterday saying it is predicted that the eventual presidential winner will have spent $500 million (yes.. half a billion). The $18 million raised so far is just a beginning and we need to make it happen at least a few more times with progressively bigger bombs.

Which means we need to focus on finding new converts to Ron Paul's campaign so they can donate.

I also read that California and Florida may be the two new focuses of the new millions of $'s. Huge states with already burgeoning Ron Paul rallies! This could get big and intense really quick.

After that, New York and Texas could be even more massive and insane...

Go Ron Paul! =)

Issuing Power Taken From The Banks . . .

How to do that is at http://GreatRedDragon.com under "A REAL [First Step] Solution To REAL Economic Problems. No Ads and it's not a joke. Some serious people have been working on this for 11 years. That was an excellent comment that's at the very root of most of our economic troubles. This is an issue that Ron Paul knows about well. That's why he has my support.
