Time Magazine Names Ron Paul a "Person of the Year"
After Vladimir Putin, Time magazine named 30 "People Who Mattered" in their "Person of the Year" issue.
Booed by Republicans for his isolationist foreign policy views and anathema to Democrats for his anti-government philosophy, the Texas congressman was proudly out of step with both political parties. But marching to his own drummer, the grandfatherly libertarian found himself leading an online parade. Millions of dollars poured into his quixotic presidential campaign, raising an inevitable question: What's next for this free-thinking and strangely compelling grassroots crusader?

Time magazine is a CFR RAG. Do not spend your hard-earned cash on this treasonous fictional piece of trash. The only reason they added Ron Paul was to sell copies.
It's GARBAGE!!!
So is Newsweek....
Emergency in IOWA!!
Sorry to get off topic but we JUST discovered we have an emergency here and this couldn't be more important to all of us considering the bandwagon effect that will follow the results of the first caucus.
Everyone's help desperately needed. If you are dying to pitch in somewhere but don't know what to do with yourself please know that there is an voter registration emergency in IOWA TODAY that needs EVERYONE'S HELP.

Somebody forward this to the GENERAL!
Somebody tell the ronpaul 1100!
Be GLAD he's included!
Sure it's a CFR-dominated rag, etc., etc. as a number of rather irate posts below have pointed out. But an awful LOT of people read it! And, yes they misuse "isolationist"--but how many people understand the term anyway? And "quixotic" is NOT an insult; I'd rather take it as a compliment. And we're all very glad that Dr. Paul is marching to his own drummer--so are we!
BE GLAD HE'S A Time magazine "PERSON OF THE YEAR"! Quit with the irate attacks! I'm utterly amazed that they included him. As any advertising or PR guru will tell you--any publicity is better than none. And a big name publication is better than a small. And it's great that he's mentioned by the off-line media for a change. One of the "Men of the Year"! Wow! (Even if they show awful taste in their other choices.) Dr. Paul's off-line name recognition is still pitifully low--let's be honest. And while the text isn't shilling for Ron Paul, it seems to me that it's actually praising him with faint damns!
Actually, I'm amazed at the near-hysterical tone of some of the posts below damning everything about the article from its vocabulary to the photo of Dr. Paul. Are you guys crazy or something? You sure come across that way.
At the risk of being accused of bumping my own post, I'm going to cut-and-paste my response to another post that boasted of writing a scathing letter to the editor of Time.
"You're right about the misuse of terminology but DEAD WRONG about the virtues of a scathing letter. FAR BETTER to THANK the editor for including Mr. Paul as a "Man of the Year" (I'm amazed that they did.) and mention, by the way, that "Ron Paul is as non-isolationist as they come, rather an ANTI-INTERVENTIONIST; there's a big difference." You'll get your point across a lot better, maybe educate the writer--politely, NOT make yourself sound like a rude jerk, and possibly make some friends for Dr. Paul--or at least not anger his enemies even worse. I used to be a small-time journalist; telling me I was an ignoramus who needed a dictionary would only irritate and anger me (even--or especially--if I was wrong) and provoke my human desire to seek revenge.
Honey catches more flies than vinegar (and it smells a lot better)!"
Enough said.
** Do NOT wear RP gear to vote ** as has been suggested below..
...I need to find the research on this (or feel free, I must run out of the house at the moment) however I am quite certain that it is ILLEGAL TO WEAR CANDIDATE clothing, carry signs, etc around polling places. There is actually a foot or yard limit - like 200 yards within polling place or so.
Can someone please verify - sometimes we have people on here more "connected" than I, i.e., with voting rules, campaigning, legality...etc.
Thanks!

True - and laws vary state-to-state
True - You can't "electioneer" at the pools.
I can only speak for Missouri, but here they are pretty strict. You have to remove or cover up anything the poll workers/election officials consider to be of a political nature while at the polls... And technically, within just 25 feet of the front entrance to the polling place also.
The election laws vary widely state-to-state, of course. So check with your Secretary of State's office or county clerk (or whomever handles elections in your state or county) for the exact details.
Four years ago, I had a small lapel pin on my coat (it wasn't in any way political) when I went to vote. The election official asked me (nicely) what the pin was, and I told her. Only later did I figure out that she was checking to see if it had a political meaning.
So find out what the laws in your state are. If there is no "electioneering" within "X" feet of the entrance, be sure that you are "X"+10 feet away at all times if you are carrying any sort of Ron Paul sign or even wearing a Ron Paul shirt or coat.
Interesting
We just voted in Australia and I saw a girl in line at the polls being asked to leave or cover up for wearing a candidates t-shirt.

My letter to the Time editor
Please purchase Mr. Von Drehle a dictionary so that he can look up the meaning of words such as isolationist. Also, please purchase him a set of encyclopedias so that he might understand the difference between "anti-government" and "anti-unconstitutional government".
Anything published in "Time" should be as factual as possible, and Mr. Von Drehle's ignorance in these two areas (there are more in his write-up) sheds a bad light on your publication.
Honey works better than vinegar!

I sent a scathing letter too
and told him no wonder subscriptions are at an all time low. Get a clue and a dictionary.

The paragraph is vague and descrption is off.
I like the pic of RP though.

January 8, 2008 is sign bomb day everywhere in the nation ron paul signs.
When I heard that RP was on Time Magazine...
I had to say my reaction was caution. You all realize the Rockefellers (= Big Bankers = Fed = CFR, etc) own it, right?
When I read it I immediately picked their intent. But you know what, RP looks great! And whatever these neocons (neocon=globalist) try against us will go right back at them. It's not their moment anymore. It's our moment!!!
Ron Paul's exposure this week has been excellent and I'm so proud of us all.
And I am not going to let these globalists take my smile away!

Greetings
Hi all. I'm from Norway and have followed Ron Paul, you and the revolution since August. It is very interesting to follow your efforts from Norway. Sadly I have to say that the big media in Norway also have a blackout regarding to post anything about Dr.Ron Paul. But always after a discussion in the big newspapers about American policy online, many norwegians mention RP and they are angry about the media blackout, and he got quite huge support in the discussions here.
2 weeks ago the Norwegian press tried to give us a impression that Mr.Huckabee was the dark horse, and he was climbing on the polls... Never a word on RP.
I'm very impressed with the awakening in your country, and the effort you all put in the campaign for RP.
It would be great if RP become "The person of the year!.
Greetings from Norway.
Hilsen fra Norge
Thank you
We love hearing from the other countries!
I love these comments!
Thanks so much for your support!
I happen to believe that if Ron Paul gets elected as President, there will be some sort of domino effect for all the other countries. Sort of like a "New World Order" but of peace and prosperity.
People around the world like freedom and liberty not just Americans.
Keep telling your family and friends about Ron Paul's message.
Australia Too!
We have a Media Blackout on Ron Paul too, also for some reason Huckabee has been getting quite a few articles about him on the Australian News site news.com.au, Which coincidentally is owned by Mr R Murdoch.
And yes the Domino effect is what i am hoping for, If America does it so can we, that is the impression I get from our government. So If you guys can restore Freedom and cast away the economic chains then I believe many in the western world will follow.
Canadian here!
Ron Paul is mostly blacked out in our press as well.
Please get him elected.
hey, canadian buddy
you could donate to the ron paul blimp. we will try to fly it near the border for you as well if you donate.
Så sant!
Ron Paul som president vil skape en global effekt!:)
A Ron Paul presidency will cause a global effect!

Consciouss Co-Creation Now!!!
Lets rewrite it for them, shall we?
Both booed but mostly applauded by Republicans for taking the advice of the founders for his non-interventionalist foreign policy views and anathema to Socialist/Marxist Democrats for his limited-government philosophy, the Texas congressman was proudly out of step with both political parties which are pretty much out of step with the country. But taking his marching orders from the Constitution, the humble statesman has found himself leading a REVOLUTION. Millions and millions of dollars from individuals (not PAC money, special interest groups and off shore accounts like other candidates) poured into his "Hope For America" presidential campaign, raising an inevitable question: What's next for this free-thinking and strangely compelling grassroots protector of the Constitution and our personal liberty?
The Presidency of the United States, of Course!
For God and Country!
For God and Country!
Well Done!
Send it to Times Editor!
Nice
I needed that.
Picture is great!
Despite many comments to the contrary, I think the picture is great! It shows him as a real person! It's honest! That's part of his charm, isn't it? The lines in his face tell the true story of someone who's done a lot of laughing, smiling, and living! It's in stark contrast to the plastic people he's running against who wouldn't dare be caught on camera with a hair out of place.
exactly my thoughts
the shot is very nice, soft and positive. also, i honestly think that the hair style is way cool!
Here's what we can do...
If you guys don't mind going to the nearest newsstand or bookstore, we should insert Slim Jims or business cards into all of the copies of Time magazine. Make sure it stays, though! Use scotch tape if you have to!!
Just an idea. :-)
Let's not take this lying down!
GOPUSA is circulating a poll we should all try and vote in.
http://polls.newsmax.com/...
When they sent out the email. It said "Vote For Huckabee."
I voted...But I will be damned if this Republican is going to vote for a tax and spend liberal and a thief like Mike Huckabee. Or yellow bellied coward and liar like Mitt Romney. Or an incest loving, cross-dressing, thrice married adulterer like Rudy Giuliani.
That would not be conservative.
OLD
This is an old poll that should have been reported on by now. I don't know what they are doing. But not sure they will ever report it. I voted on it at least three weeks ago.
I wrote a letter to the
I wrote a letter to the editor asking them to reconsider their use of the term Isolationist.
Refusing to impose our will, militarily, upon weaker countries, is an embodiment of the democratic ideal of self-determination. We'll do our thing, and they do theirs. We lead by example instead of playing, "do as I say, not as I do," which is a failed policy, proven by all of the kids who take up smoking and drinking in total disregard of that directive from their parents.

The media is the LEAST of your TROUBLES! (",)
I have to make a comment here. The world IS watching, I am a UK citizen and have been to Boston's Faniel Hall and am waiting eagerly like many Europeans and others around the world for you to wake up and realise that your election system is RIGGED!!!
THIS IS THE BIG ISSUE NOW, and I believe that an opportunity like this needs grasping straight away with CREATIVE thinking.
For example, EVERYONE THAT VOTES RON PAUL IS ENCOURAGED TO TAKE A BANNER ON THIER CAR, WEAR A HAT, TEE SHIRT, CERTAIN COLOUR or some other creative, easy to make/do symbol that CAN BE FILMED .... SO THE WORLD CAN SEE YOU ARE VOTING FOR FREEDOM AND NOT THE STATUS QUO
IF you don't DO THIS or a similar idea to watch the vote, there are CERTAINLY people going to try and stop fairness. In the UK we probably know more than you about your 2001 elections and we don't use machines here. Our media is less bias, and you must now CREATE A SYMBOL OF FREEDOM if you find it hard to monitor the black box!
- I wish you all the luck in the world!!! From the UK
For discussion
This is a subject for discussion in your MEETUP.
A very smart idea! We should use Ron Paul T-Shirts!
We should wear them quite a lot in public places to help with name recognition. I do it all the time. I have a bunch of different ones.
We need to promote this habit.
JB.
PS: I edited and removed using t-shirts in elections because it is very likely illegal as noted above.
THANK YOU!! Sometimes it
THANK YOU!! Sometimes it takes someone from the outside looking in to be totally objective about the BIG picture. I have been VERY concerned about our so called election procedures, and have done quite a bit of tedious research. The findings are HIGHLY alarming. Everyone seems so caught up in the "soap opera" happenings of Ron Paul's courtship with the White House, but the less "romantic" priority to getting him elected seems to be constantly on the back burner! IT HAS BEEN DOCUMENTED AND PROVEN THAT THE ELECTIONS ARE VULNERABLE AND HAVE BEEN PROVEN TO BE RIGGED! It will continue to be the case, unless every American citizen concerned about their vote being legitmately counted takes immediate action and commits to being a "watchdog" during the elections process. Visit
BLACK BOX VOTING DOT ORG to learn more on how to become an active and effective vote counter.
This is a wake up call. ALL OF OUR EFFORTS AND HARD EARNED MONEY WILL GO TO WASTE AND BE IN VAIN IF WE DO NOT ACT ON THIS MOST CRUCIAL MATTER. Fair elections are at the very HEART of democracy.
it sounded like
time could have just replaced all those tags to describe RP in the article with "RP is a giant homosexual who has contagious outbreaks of herpes emanating from any and all orifices all while back saddling mud-covered swine while attending the bicentennial alien abductions club meeting for idiots, LIBERTARIAN idiots" and it would have read the _exact_ same way to me. Then again the association between time and CNN are closer than crossed-fingers so im about as surprised as a twit being smacked over the head with a paintcan.
A recently ex-commie KGB agent...

There ya go
Ya got that right.
I think we have a case for slander!!!!
I'm not a lawyer but I know the definition of slander - the utterance of a falsehood that damages another's reputation. Any legal expert want to take this further?

that blurb is like the platonic form
from which all msm articles on ron paul are created.
I didn't think it was possible to pack all of those terms in just 3 sentences:
"isolationist, anti-government, out of step, marching to his own drummer, grandfatherly, libertarian, quixotic, crusader."
guess it's better than nothing.
MSM and their memes
In a one paragraph they got in isolationist, anathema, quixotic, libertarian, marching to his own drummer...When will this sound bit culture stop?
It is great all the press he is getting, he was in the Des Moines Register front page as well as the MSM sites about his using college students to help canvas for him in Iowa, I think he has crossed over to the first tier in coverage, the attacks will increase of course, but his consistency and integrity always rises to the top.
I think it's great... makes
I think it's great... makes people curious about a guy who's not the same kind of crap politician we all hate so much.
Eh it's not bad
It's almost like a GAP billboard or something. He looks like a 72 yo male model there. Hair tosseled, but not caring. Looking like he's at a party...
Thx but no thx
First, the picture is horrible. I like it but it makes him look goofy and not to be taken seriously. Second, he's NOT an isolationist! Jeezus some of these people need to do just a little bit of research! Third, I don't appreciate him being put next to Erik Prince, nor do I think Prince needs to be on the list. He is the founder of Blackwater USA, whom I consider to be a mercenary army and just as corrupt as Halliburton.
How can these people just
How can these people just say these things about somebody who has done so much for this country? And this is supposed to be a somewhat respectable magazine too.
Huh?
Where did you hear this is suppose to be a respectable magazine?
He's not an ISOLATIONIST!!!
It took me fifteen seconds to look up isolationism on Wikipedia, and he's clearly NOT advocating that. Are journalists stupid, or just lazy?
Neither
They are smart and cunning and getting out as much discredit of Dr. Paul as they possibly can. They want the establishment and this is war against the people. Dr. Paul represents the people and every horrible thing they can think of will be slung at him in hopes it will stick and reduce his numbers.
pic
Its not a great pic of OUr DR Paul either..
Shows how subjective things are
I thought the pic was one the best I've seen. He looks really happy.
