Grassroots Hero Vijay Boyapati Presents FreeAtLast2008.com

Vijay Boyapati writes:

Hi All, a fellow googler and I have setup the next money bomb for Dr Paul. We have the greatest community of activists on this list, and I wanted to ask y'all for your help in promoting this effort and creating videos and banners, and all the other creative, amazing stuff that you've done to make our previous money bombs such a huge success.

The website is below.

As Martin Luther King once said "Free at last! Free at last! Thank God Almighty, we are free at last!"

freedom, peace and prosperity to all!
Vijay (organizer of Operation Live Free or Die).

http://freeatlast2008.com...

Martin Luther King was an American hero who dedicated his life to fighting for liberty and justice for all Americans. In 1963, on the steps of the Lincoln memorial in Washington, he saluted our spirits with the immortal words, "I have a dream..."

Today the dream of liberty and justice for all is slipping through our fingers. Our government no longer speaks for the people. It is waging an immoral, unconstitutional war abroad, while stripping us of our basic civil liberties at home.

Now another American hero has taken the stage to fight for our freedom. Dr Ron Paul, like Dr King, opposes the immoral wars that we have fought abroad, and he believes in the principles on which our beloved Republic was founded.

On January 21st, when we honor Dr King and his message of peace and freedom, please support Dr Paul, who carries the same message, with a pledge of $100. Do not let history record that those of us who had the most to lose, did the least to prevent its happening.

Pledge today at:

No, no, NO!

First of all, I think this is a FALSE FLAG operation. Has anyone actually heard Vijay say he is behind this?

Whether he is or not, doing this would be an absolute catastrophe. The King family has disavowed politicians before who linked themselves with Dr. King. They have said Dr. King would not have endorsed the candidate and they gave particulars as to why. Sorry, I do not remember who it was. They own Dr. King's ghost, and they protect it unrelentingly. If anyone uses his image for promotion without paying them, there is hell to pay. Somebody will get sued.

M.L. King is a hero to me, and to Dr. Paul. That does not matter. Using his image will stir up a hornet's nest. The media will do nothing but drag up those old ghost-written articles, etc., etc..

When Bill Clinton was running the first time, he had a sign on his wall to keep him focused on the message: "It's the economy, stupid." It still is. Foreign adventures and deficit spending are wrecking the US. That's the message. If this MLK promotion gets traction, it will not be.

The grassroots support for the money bombs was almost universal. That cannot be said for this idea, and that alone is reason enough to drop it.

The money bombs were fantastic. They raised a ton of money, and they got a lot of press. Time to give the idea a rest. I like the Paycheck for Ron Paul idea.

If it may be a false flag

why is it still being advertised on Daily Paul? And couldn't the King Family go after Daily Paul for not getting permission to advertise this and use his words on their website?

After all, when a lawsuit is filed the lawyers usually go after everyone.

Calm down people

Get the appropriate permissions, for MLK day if need be, and honor the message of King. If not combine other important American characters with birthdays in Jan.

I think honoring King and his message would show people that Ron Paul and his supporters are not racist. I think it would also help in getting attention from more black voters.

Also put up quotes where Paul talks about Liberty being colored blind, and how if government respected individualism, their socialist policy wouldn't perpetuate racism in America.

As far as King, some here should read his quotes, they don't realize his words have been distorted by some in they black community who still perpetuate racism in America.

His message was for all who are persecuted, not just blacks.

Let's take a moment and look at the possible

flip side of this. While what you state may be true, what if it were not viewed like that by many black leaders (I can think of two right off the top of my head) and many in the black community? After all, he may have advocated freedom for all, but the black community has claimed him as their own.

I realize Dr. Paul has many black supporters. But what if black non supporters were not to view it as you say, but instead, looked upon this as an exploitation of "their" leader?

Would Ron Paul and his supporters then experience the "blowback" Dr. Paul talks about? This may open a Pandora's box of unintended consequences.

My point is why take that chance?

In addition to the fact, that permission to use his name, image and words would still be needed from the King Family. And by the remote chance their permission were to be given, it still would not insulate this event from blowback.

While I apprecitate Vijay's dedication, hard work and support of Ron Paul, I believe this event is not a very good idea. However, this is just my opinion.

hornets nest

You are stirring up a hornets nest. King's family is not King. They will throw a deafening hissy fit over this. It will be worse than a 1000 toddlers in Walmart. People will tag us as masochists for even thinking it.

Ain't it funny

Hi Oldmom,

I suspect you are right about the King family. It's funny to me how history is altered by those who tell it. I'm old enough to remember Dr. King and his movement, and I believe he would would support this message of freedom.

I also remember President Kennedy and his message of freedom and limited government. My how his record has been rewritten.

I clearly remember too, President Reagen, and it made me laugh to hear many in the newsmedia and several leading democrats euligize him at his funeral. They hated his guts when he was president.

Veejay is a smart guy and I'm sure there are attoneys in our group who can give some advice on how to couch this in a legal way. Hopefully the legal system hasn't gotten to the point where someone can claim a day on the calendar as their property.

Chairman

remember

Remember National Brotherhood Week? That was a week where people were supposed to focus on getting along. Civil rights leaders were highlighted in the news etc. All civil rights leaders, not just one. My kids don't even recognize the names Frederick Douglas or Harriet Tubman and are unaware of any nonAfrican-American American civil rights leaders. It seems to me that since King's time the civil rights movement has been taken out of the hands of regular people and placed in the hands of an elite group (or groups). Like so many unions founded with good intentions the perpetuation of their organizations has become more important than the initial message.
And I have no doubt the King family will say they own the day. We should take it away from any one person and give the day to all the brave people who have fought for the rights of others.

THIS IS NOT LEGAL ACCORDING TO THE

KING FAMILY LINK...NOT WITHOUT PERMISSION. YOU CANNOT USE HIS NAME FOR PUBLICITY WITHOUT PERMISSION. AND I WOULD THINK THAT WOULD GO FOR USING IT TO RAISE MONEY AS WELL.

MLK Day: Pros and Cons

I think the pros far outweigh the cons. Some jerks in the press tried to equate Guy Fawkes with McVeigh. We won't win with certain people no matter what we do. And controversy is not always a bad thing. This event will not be ignored.

Actually, I hope that it *IS* ignored... at least that is best

scenario we can hope for if they keep going with this.

Seriously, did anyone really THINK this one through.

It's bad on all sides... and the date is SO late in the month that any money it *might* raise will be essentially useless for the Feb5th portion of the campaign (but negative responses to this event are likely to do as much harm as any good from the money raised).

I just cannot see anything good coming from this, no matter WHO is behind the idea. (And the constant mentioning of "Vijay" and "Trevor" makes me suspicious... has anyone done a WHOIS on the domain?)

freeatlast2008.com is hiding something... but what?

Just ran a WHOIS on this "freeatlast2008.com" domain... and sorry folks, but it doesn't smell right to me.

Contrast: "thisnovember5th.com" is actually registered to one "Trevor Lyman" -- likewise "operationlivefreeordie.com" is registered to one "Vijay Boyapati" -- both with address data visible, etc.

Conversely, this "freeatlast2008.com" is registered to... someone entity named "Domainsbyproxy.com" -- now why would Vijay OR Trevor suddenly switch and use an entity like this; especially when their registration data is ALREADY visible to the world via their two well-known websites?

I suppose it is *possible*, but it just doesn't "smell right" folks. We have something *odd* going on here -- perhaps even a spamming "email harvester" at work -- I'd recommend caution with a capital "C."

Yeah but you cant just use

Yeah but you cant just use someones name and likeness without permission. Whoever came up with the MLK idea was not using his political thinking cap.

I dont think MLK day is

I dont think MLK day is going to be a wise choice. Too many people do not like the man, not to mention that using that name and graphics on the web page makes it look like the donation is to something other than Ron Paul...bad bad choice there. I know the intentions were honorable but this will turn out bad if it is not changed. You can see it brewing already.

Fastest way to kill this campaign is doing stuff like this, especially without permission.

Legal implications

There are too many legal implications that go along with the usage of this as well as the perception problems. NOT everyone likes MLK...the way he was promoted in the press.

Jan 29 Thomas Paine's Birthday

Jan 29 Thomas Paine's birthday would be more appropriate as Dr. Paul is the modern day Thomas Paine, Thomas Jefferson.

Voluntary Association, Mutual Cooperation.

This one seems simple enough

I'm sure this should tie this whole thing together. Why not just contact Dr. King's family and see how they feel about it? If they are against it, drop it out of respect and use the press to show what respect we have for this great man. If they are for it, it will blow Dec. 16th out of the water and make sure to get their official endorsement again because many people have respect for this great man. But again if they are not in then DON'T DO IT.

p.s. yes I know caps implies yelling that is what I was going for.

Let's keep the freedom train rolling.

Blowback

There is a chance of blowback from this. The MSM reported the brothel owner and white supremacist (though only 2 out of hundreds of 1000's of doners) as much as the money bombs. If the King family objects ... you know what the headlines will be...

Who cares?

If the family wants to sue. What are their damages? Absolutely none. They have no grounds for a claim. I'd actually be interested in seeing what they make up.

They cannot sue the Ron Paul campaign or Ron Paul, because he had nothing to do with the site or with using MLK's words.

If they sue Vijay, how have they been damaged by him? Was money going to be donated to them, and they lost it to Ron Paul instead? Haha. And how much money will they get out of him?

Suing CBS is one thing. Suing Vijay is another. The best they could probably hope for is to get an image removed from the site. By the time they get around to that, the day is here and gone again.

How absurd is it that there is an MLK day, but no one can quote MLK? What nutcases the family is showing themselves to be. -- they will destroy any "legacy" King had all by themselves.

They care...

Cease and Desist letters

Mayby go after youtube, et al. But the real damage is to us, bad press

This is worrisome...

I can see why this plan and video contain a beautiful message, and WE understand it, but...

The King family legal issues is a deal-breaker. These plans should stop right now, unless by some chance the King family is actually willing to endorse Ron Paul (boy, wouldn't that be awesome). I doubt they do that sort of thing, even if they privately want him to win. If by some chance, even if it's a small chance, they initiated legal action against either Ron Paul or his supporters, Dr. Paul's run for the presidency would be OVER. Just like that. Think about that. (Also remember that Prince tried to sue some woman for a homemade YouTube video in which one of his songs was playing on the radio in the background.)

The MSM doesn't make a distinction whether we're the ones comparing Ron Paul to MLK, or whether RP is comparing himself to MLK. Usually, when they distort something until it's unrecognizable, all RP has to do is point out how stupid and illogical it is, and everyone shuts up. This time, people will NOT CARE how stupid and illogical the attack is, because the only thing they need to know is: "White Republican associated with Martin Luther King? GRRRRRRR!!! I SEE RED!!!" THAT allegation would make Ron Paul more famous, in a bad way, than he ever has been before, and potential/future supporters would have their minds closed like a bear trap.

But again, I really think the sentiment is beautiful and RIGHT ON. It's just that the risk is too great.

Like I said below, the King

Like I said below, the King Family is zealous in protecting rights to his image and money being made from it (especially if they are not getting a cut). They've taken quite a few people to court. Something that should be considered.

Do not fear the enemy.

I personally favored the Thomas Paine date, but in light of our first MSM attack regarding the keeping of the white sepremicist money, I think this is perfect. We go on the offensive.

I think it's a good move...

It's positive....

It is a sign of openness to non-traditional Republican voters...

It signifies we are NOT tied to the old "Southern Strategy" of the Republican party...that IS very important..

It will draw in Dems, Ex-Dems and Independents....

We will probably catch some BS from some people for it...but it's bold, different, and most importantly its right...

I know it will make SOME conservative whites cringe (I'm from the South and I could write a whole book on race politics in the South) - but frankly - they'll get over it....they'll NEVER vote for Hillary or Obama...too liberal

For your consideration: King

From the NY Times article: "The family has been relentless in its attempts to corner the market on Dr. King's words."

I have to agree with quite a

I have to agree with quite a few other posters. It is one thing to tie a fundraiser to an event in history or a movie, and quite another to tie it to an individual.

Are you aware several people have been sued for using Dr. King's likeness in recent years? Effectively you are saying he endorses what we are doing, and remember, Dr. King's family is still alive.

Be ready for what will come of this.

I'd say "let them come after us"

If the family takes MLK out of the public domain, it only lessens his value. Look at the RIAA; People aren't too pleased that they came after the girlscouts for singing happy birthday.

since MLK Day is a national holiday, I'd be even more surprised if the family had recourse.

stop the press! and the website

no no no NO! listen to us, this is not a united effort, this is a set up for disaster. we're not even close to 'all aboard' on this and if we call this the next money bomb its going to be a disaster, and even if it succeeds i think it sends out the wrong message. im all for controversial dates like the guy fawkes day thing, i dont think it helped RP's image, but doing something that would otherwise seem like some weird form of pandering or somehow implying RP is correlating himself to MLK has 'bad' written all over it in my cobweb filled head.

I like all the commitment youve put into the cause Vijay and i know youre currently roomin' it up with Trevor and all, but not this date!

Good luck. I think you are

Good luck. I think you are taking a wrong turn here. I think this is a pandering move and will ultimately backfire.

Dr King ------------ Dr Paul

I've been thinking about if it's a good idea MLK day as a moneybomb day. I came to the conclusion that it's a great idea. And Ron Paul have mentioned Dr King before, in the context of non violence and civil rights! Dr King is an American icon, as well as a world icon, for peace and freedom. One of my biggest concerns was what the black community would think, but I think this would send a very positive message to them.

It's a great day for dropping moneybombs for freedom!!!!

But, please cut out the part from the video about Dr Kings assassination..............

King is Dead

Personally I do NOT like this video starting out talking about the assassination of MLK. It is inauspicious.

Second, why do we need to tie Ron Paul's star to MLK's? MLK was a great American hero, no doubt, and so is Ron Paul. But I'm not sure of the wisdom of tying the two together. Something about it just doesn't sit right...

Ron Paul is not being tied

Ron Paul is not being tied to MLK but the message of Civil Rights and the act of civil disobedience. There may come a time will it will require all of us to take on many of the actions civil right activists perfected in the 60s whether Paul gets elected or not. It's a much better model than Guy Fawkes. :)

Remember, this is all about our highest ideals. Not about the fallibility of Man.

$20 Million

I'd like to see a push to get the good doctor up to $20 Million by midnight new years eve.

its already happening...

I agree completely

I am elated to see the next money "bomb" be on Dr. King's birthday (as observed). Great idea.

Why Martin Luther King, Jr. was a Republican

Why Martin Luther King, Jr. was a Republican

By Frances Rice

It should come as no surprise that Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. was a Republican. In that era, almost all black Americans were Republicans. Why? From its founding in 1854 as the anti-slavery party until today, the Republican Party has championed freedom and civil rights for blacks. And as one pundit so succinctly stated, the Democrat Party is as it always has been, the party of the four S's: Slavery, Secession, Segregation and now Socialism.

http://www.nationalblackr...

Voluntary Association, Mutual Cooperation.

I think its a great idea.

Americans need a history refresher! The Republican party was traditionally the party of freedom. The Democrats have done nothing for any minority community, except pander to them, manipulate them, scare them into voting Democratic, and keep them economically disadvantaged through government programs that hurt, not help, minorities and the poor in general.

For too long the Democrats have pushed their revisionist history, its time to show America that Ron Paul Republicans are the ones that can bring back true equality and freedom to ALL people, regardless of skin color.

I'm white, so I can only guess, but I think most Blacks, Hispanics, etc. don't know much about Ron Paul, and if they think he is just another old white Republican, then what chance do we have of converting them to be supporters.

MLK day is a good opportunity to do some education about how the policies of a Ron Paul presidency would bring far more equality and freedom to all Americans versus the bondage of the Democrats Socialism.

$100 donations?????

It doesn't specify on the website that pledges are for $100. So 100.000 donations doesn't translate to $10,000,000.
What's the deal?

Dr. King Was Truely a Great Statesman

Thanks for the video. Dr. King's words brought tears to my eyes. He was such a sincere man, much like Dr. Paul is.
