Russert: Wait Till You Hear What This Guy (Paul) Stands For

Tim Russert showed up on Morning Joe today and as a parting shot he said to Joe (who likes our man), "Wait till you see what this guy stands for," in reference to Ron Paul.

He said, "I've read his entire platform," and invited Joe to watch the interview on Sunday. He was laughing, but he sounded like he was making a challenge.

Be there, Aloha.

This is what I said earlier this week ....

on a different thread:

The topic of RP being a racist using past published material and tie it into recent donations.

His missed votes in congress.

His vote in favor of invading Afganistan.

I predict most of the attack will come from the congressional record, some of which we probably don't know.

Pretty close, but didn't tie recent donations to his "apparent" racist views, and didn't bring up Afganistan at all.

Remember, we are looking for new votes. If I was new to RP I think the message was right on. He won many new votes today.

He's right!

Just wait until the over-taxed, over-regulated, and over-burdened American public find out what Ron Paul stands for. People are incredibly angry with the government right now and most people have not heard of Ron Paul and his stands on the issues. He's right, just wait until this same public sweep Ron Paul into office with a mandate so overwhelming that congress will be forced to play along!

Hear! Hear!

Ron will be ready for Russert. But are YOU and I ready?

I agree with Michigan Jack and others that a bunch of questions will be in the realm of comparing life with big government to life without. I predict no character questions come up except a quick one on the supremacist donation.

The bigger issue, and Ron and those of us who have studied Austrian economics can handle this, will be questions like "so Donald Trump pays the same amount of income tax as a janitor if Ron Paul has his way?"

Folks, slashing government is sexy and prudent to us as RP supporters. Even taking away the Dept of Education's ability to send block grants to local school districts is OK with us because we get it. But John and Jane Public has to come down a loooong learning curve before they see private solutions to what they perceive as public problems. Ron has been rebutting such questions for decades but those here who are newly fond of these ideas have not, and are personally representing the Ron Paul candidacy on the phone, in emails, while canvassing, at the dinner table, in the office lunch room to a great degree in the next several weeks. Moral of the story? Let's study-up at ronpaullibrary.com. Soon, John and Jane public will have tougher questions for us like the Trump one above.. we need to be ready.

A couple of guesses

I saw Tim Russert speak to the Radio and Television News Directors Association (RTNDA) in Los Angeles, 1995 -- give or take a year. It's been a while, but I have strong recollection of his speech focusing on the path towards federal banruptcy that Dr Paul now preaches. Russert used pie charts and graphs to show how some 38% of federal spending merely paid interest on our debt.

So -- unless he has changed, I would expect some empathy from Russert on that topic.

On the other hand, Russert can be and usually is relentless at some point. As he should be when interviewing presidential candidates; frankly I wouldn't trust a journalist who found nothing to challenge in an hour long session with someone aspiring to the White House.

My guess is that Russert may hone in on comparisons to the US in 1913, before the income tax.

Tomorrow's setup

I think we now know why Russert has Dr. Paul scheduled for only a portion of the hour-long 'Meet The Press':
..."frankly I wouldn't trust a journalist who found nothing to challenge in an hour long session with someone aspiring to the White House"...

It is my guess that Russert could not find a weak spot in Dr. Paul's positions, so he will use the 'round-table' afterwards to attack the man when he has no chance for rebuttal. I'm sure they could think of more childish tactics, but far too many people have awakened to the complete disconnect between the MSM and American sentiments; this tactic, if employed, will only serve to further consolidate Dr. Paul's support.

LOL No, Russert's not that smart!!!

my guess that Russert could not find a weak spot in Dr. Paul's positions

Do you know how smart you would have to be to fully understand how *all* policies that increase human freedom are preferrable to those policies that require tyranny???

That's is so so so difficult, especially given how we have been conditioned.

Russert is no where near that smart. He will see many obviously "weak spots" -- because of his conditioning to automatically prefer authoritarian control in some area.

Something has changed since last night?

Last night (Friday night), NBC announced during a program I was watching that Ron Paul would have "the full hour" with Russert. You're saying that has changed?

Meet The Press

Russert is a pit bull for sure but that is why he is the best there is no conspiracy here I mean when he moderated that Democratic debate he kicked Hillarys face in. Since Phil Donahue is no longer on MSBNC this is the best we got, this will be Ron's finest hour and let the chips fall where they may!

Russert

and his ilk have been living in the DC bubble for decades. Anything Ron Paul espouses is like life on other planets to these "elites".

They have no idea what is really happening in the USA. They tell inside jokes to each other, attend the same dinner parties, and probably have not have a conversation with a middle american in decades.

Of course what Ron Paul says is sensational. But to ordinary Americans, it's like water in a decades long desert of political and corporate avarice.

America is sick, call a doctor! Dr. Ron Paul.

to some in other

places can call him the constitution czar of the peoples demand

Meet the Press will propel Ron Paul into the White House

If Tim Russert allows Ron Paul time to explain his philosophy on important topics he will become our next president. I stress important topics. Russert seems to get bogged down with religion, abortion, and immigration which are not Ron Paul's strength only because it does not separate him from the other candidates... After listening to the Houston Chronicle and the Franklin Pierce Law School interviews, RP is the smartest man to run for president in over a hundred years. In addition to his high IQ, RP's character is unreal. IMHO it all depends on the topics that will be discussed by Tim Russert. Keep the faith RP will do fine. I urge Ron Paul fans to e-mail the 2 interviews I mentioned to Tim Russert in hopes he will ask intelligent questions. One thing I have noticed is how unprofessional and dumb the reporters are covering the campaign.
I sometimes wonder if Ron Paul has done anything wrong in his life.

Video?

Wait until Sunday...

...when the program airs.....

If it's Sunday, you're on

If it's Sunday, you're on Meet da Press!

So were predicing the future in this topic? Russert never said this?

You should put this info into it's own thread with a headline stating this importance.

Don't just bend over and take it!

Here's my email:

Dear Tim

I heard you saying "Wait til you hear what this guy believes" re Ron Paul. Look this guy's ideas are not so whacky. Ronald Reagan wanted a gold standard (See Robert Novak's Prince of Darkness) and he also wondered what was the point of the Federal Reserve (Paul Johnson's History of the American People) so he is more in line with the most successful recent conservative than any other candidate running. You might also take the angle "Conservative Crackup" because, if how I feel is anything to go by, that is coming and the Republicans are in serious trouble and as Dr. Paul points out, major denial.
Annie

Which part of the Constitution Does He Think is Wacky?

I continue to be astonished that people don't immediately counter such assertions with the direct challenge given above. Or just say "So you obviously dislike the US Constitution...?"

The document speaks for itself QUITE clearly. Especially the Tenth Amendment. It takes either a truly retarded or a truly subversive mind to read the Tenth Amendment and either not understand it or, equivalently, seek to "interpret" it. The Tenth HAS been subverted, obviously, by one person interpreting an interpretation of another interpretation of an interpretation of what it means. But you only need to read the damned thing to realize how crooked and absurd the idea that this LAW OF THE LAND was intended to mean anything other than exactly what it sounds like:

"The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the States, are reserved to the States respectively, or to the people."

That's it. That's the whole thing. Is it clear enough what the Founders INTENDED?

I think we are entirely too charitable to those "citizens" in this country who want to ignore the intention of the 10th Amendment, and ignore the very Amendment process of making legal changes to the Constitution. These people may have citizenship but they are not "Americans" in anything but registration. They are ignorant, and they are hypocrites, and they are traitors, and many things in between... but nearly all of them swear regularly to "Pledge allegiance...to the Republic for which it stands" and don't mean it at all. The pledge Federal officers take is even more blunt - they swear to defend the Constitution - not the people, not the land, not the buildings, not the "honor", not the corporations doing business in foreign lands ... the CONSTITUTION. That's it - that is all Bush swore to defend.

Hypocrites, shysters, and people who aren't willing to abide by the legal bedrock that IS the Republic, that IS the United States, need to be called on it. Maybe politely - but firmly, clearly, and promptly.

Your Logic

is unassailable.

JFK

JFK wanted the gold standard as well.. He actually had printed silver certificates... and was killed shortly after.

Damaging info on Dr. Paul- from book Freedom Under Siege

I dont have the book so I dont know if this is taken out of context nor if Dr. Paul still believes these ideals. If its true he's got a lot of explaining to do.

Like so many

of Ron Paul's positions they sound contrary to what we would think but after examination the logic surfaces. If what Dr. Paul says is so favorable for big business they would be knocking down the down to support him. But he is a huge threat to them and are doing everything in their power to suppress his message.

We are not electing a Zar

we are electing a President that has proven by his actions to be a follower of the Constitution, he is not perfect, I am sure, but he is honest and straightforward. Do not look for an angel, look for a man that can help us to live in freedom, in a just and democratic society. There is a Congress were the legislative decitions will be made.

Ridiculous. Sexual

Ridiculous. Sexual harassment is illegal. Nothing that Ron Paul says contradicts laws against harassment.

It's a State issue!!!

I think Ron Paul would assert that the states should impose sexual harrassment legislation if they feel it's important and that it's not the federal goverrnment's role to do so.

I agree with that

Thats all he needs to say. The quote in the book can be misconstrued as though he was cold hearted. I dont think that these problems can be legislated federally but I do think that the answer isnt to "just quit" without recourse. The employer has no right to mistreat an employee and there must be a recourse in law that protects people who break contracts...thats Ron Pauls own doctrine not mine so it would be wise if his rebuttal contained some of his ideology.

Ideas

The women in the article has clearly been exposed to the harsh realities of sexual harrassment, but it doesn't sound like the current government is solving the issue does it? The problem continues despite its existence. The women in described in the article does have a problem, she can't get quit because she would lose unemployment compensation. But in reality the entire existence of "unemployment" insurance actually goes to act as blackmail against workers freely quiting their jobs due to things like this. What would happen if we had a vibrant economy where there was a very low unemployment rate and no unemployment insurance? We might possibly have an end to sexual harassment as bosses would be scared to mistreat their employers risking their employers quiting. The system is biased towards forcing you to stay at your job even if there are problems like this.

Less Regulation Will Help This Imaginary Woman

When government barriers to starting and running a business are withdrawn during the Paul Administration, regular folks -- like people who hate their current job for whatever reason -- will find it much easier to work as independent contractors or start a businesses of their own.

Freedom is not the enemy of the downtrodden, it is their salvation.

Well, here's the book:

Well, here's the book: http://www.mises.org/book...

Damaging info

took a look at it and I saw nothing that damaging Congressman Paul did the right thing in the cited bills, in fact when it came to the minimum wage I would have voted no just because it had 128 amendments. But to those that may support the minimum wage just think what you could do if you actually could make a company negotiate your earnings you would make so much more and the incentive to get an education would be enormous, no kids would drop out of school knowing they had to finish to compete. It is like Congressman Paul has stated we have to be prepared to be self reliant.

All the union stuff in this

All the union stuff in this letter is immaterial...its this bit that jumps out at me and no one here is commenting on.

"...Ron Paul considers the employment contract voluntary on both sides, and he therefore doesn't recognize the reality of that power relationship. While he won't defend a manager who actually uses force to coerce sex from a subordinate, his recommended solution to sexual harassment by the boss is for the employee to quit her job. This leads me to believe that Ron Paul hasn't a clue what it must mean to be a single mother, dependent upon a paycheck to feed her children. Anyone who would offer a sexually exploited employee some civil rights tools to defend herself is derided as a social do-gooder. Ron Paul wants a woman in such a situation to stand on her own."

sexual harrasment quote

is the stinger in that article. not the minimum wage quote. Every labor union on the planet would fight against him if he thought about dropping the minimum wage...wouldnt be so easy.

The issue is his views on sexual harrassment. Does anyone have this book? He MUST disavow those statments or its going to be a really tough sell to a) get mainstream support b) take on Hilary assuming she wins the vote.

This apology can't come slowly either...its got to be forceful and contrite...

Sexual Harrasment vs Sexual Harrasment laws

The point of the quote, that women should quit, is really empowering. if put into context. A good company wants good workers. Females are clearly as productive and loyal employees as males, maybe more. A business owner would be a fool to not protect their best employees from Harassment. Companies would compete for the best workers o nthe strength and fairness oftheir sexual harassment policy, rather than have the government foist one upon them.

Quiting is often the best choice you have when you are in a poor work environment. The thought that Women workers are so limited that they need to be protected from the "male establishment" is degrading to women.

On the other hand, unproductive, troublesome women employees can misuse these laws, to the detriment of the business. What about the owner rights (oh yeah, socialist claim these are privileges)

Last, sexual harassment laws do not stop it. The best, Ironic example is Bill Clinton, a big supporter of these laws.

Are you people going mad?

Do you know how that quote pops off of a page to a non Ron Paul supporter? Ron Paul is NOT God..he is a man that is entitled to make mistakes in judgement. This type of sheepish loyalty is what got Bush elected twice.

Ron Paul and George Bush are diametrically opposed to each other in every way for sure BUT this type of loyalty has no place in a candidacy where free will and free thought are the guiding principles.

I dont believe morality can be legislated BUT i do believe that all citizens have certain rights and they should be equally covered under the law. If a man is working for an aggressive gay male boss and he's being harrassed or groped the only recourse is to leave? What male enters into an employment contract stating that he understands he's going to be groped? Its not part of the employment contract therefore its the employer who's breaking the good will of the agreement and needs to own up to their responsibility...

Its a legal issue and employees should be able to be recompensed through the insurance company or the company's own coffers for this type of bullshit...

you guys need to give your head a shake....this is a dagger in the campaign and your fluffing it off like its no big deal. Ron needs to explain or apologize. Period

We are not sheep any more

and I don't think you understand. Your concerns can be managed at state and local levels. I have heard Dr. Paul refer to the contract of law. The woman has a contract with the employer if her contract says no hanky panky then no hanky panky if the contract is broken she can sue for braking the contract. (hanky panky that's legal talk, hee, hee) Lighten up, mrpaulfan how much do you expect Dr. Paul to accomplish in a term? We still have to replace all the other scumbag congressmen and women, before we could tackle a lot of these issues.

Refreshing to see ...

It is refreshing to see a leftist hit piece devoted to RP.
I take the existance of such as a compliment.
As to the forthcoming efforts of union leadership ... is there any doubt where they will be focused regardless? My only question is how and when will union memebs finaly turn on their leadership that has been selling them down the river for decades ... Why is union membership at a century low? Is it because of Libertarian thought or because of union leaderships routine "conselations" to corporate america? Who is hurting who?
Get up, Stand up .. Dont give up the fight!

Glad to see somebody "gets

Glad to see somebody "gets it".

I reiterate everything in the post above.

Ron Paul should set the interview agenda!

One thing that Ron has been remiss in doing (and I pray he will start doing) is not letting the interviewer set the agenda, but focusing on what HE wants to say, and should be saying. When he gets an irrelevant or trivial question (and isn't that mostly how he has been treated by the corporate media so far?), he should deflect it and respond with a related but much more meaningful issue. Please, Ron, take the initiative!

Hear! Hear!

Give the man (or woman) a cigar (or other reward of his/her choice)!

Ron too often answers the question as asked:
- as though the interviewer was actually seeking "information"
- apparently unconcerned about what distortion the reporter is seeking as a headline.

The upside is that he shows people that he is genuine and that he is not calculating. The downside is that he is easy prey for the reporter's "Gotcha" game.

Stay on message.

reLOVEution, Dennis
"The best way to insure implicit obedience is to commence tyranny in nursery." - Disraeli

Sometimes he is just TOO polite

I think Rond needs to realize (or, if he does, act as if he realizes) that almost every question these corporate media types ask him is already loaded with their own bias and spin, and therefore respond with his own. I have too amny times seen him politely respond, at length, to demeaning or insulting or trivial questions. He may technically answer them well, but in doing so he looses a great deal of opportunity to get his message out.

I have watched several interviews and debates of his with friends who wholeheartedly support him, but each time they said the same thing: He came across as too accomodating to the hostile tone of the interview or "debate". It's not a crime to deflect a demeaning question, and he undercuts himself when he does not.

I'll bet...

I'll wager that Tim will focus on non-essential issues for a good part of the interview, such as "will you legalize marijuana?" "What about prostitution?" "Should gays be allowed to marry?" etc.

Essentially, they'll focus on things that most conservatives will balk at. Since Ron has a very clean record and history, this type of stuff will do just as well as any other mud slinging.

RP needs to focus on WHY he holds these views (too much power to the federal government, personal freedom, etc.)
