A Public Speaking Course would Do Ron good..

..NO I am not a troll and I LOVE the things Ron says. However, anyone who has even had Public Speaking 101 knows that they HAVE to get rid of the "uh"s and the "you know"s FIRST thing. They also learn about eye contact, and how important that is. The message must be clear, and the person must come across as honest. The above could GREATLY improve the quality of Ron's delivery and I think should be addressed. I am sorry if all get mad at me about mentioning this, as he has been a public speaker for years, but, to me, the quality of his interviews could be improved MANY times, by just a little public speaking training.

I totally respect Dr. Paul as well.

And when I go back thru the interview I sometimes see the wisdom !

But for all of us when we may see these arguments on the streets.

1. Ron Paul would have advised not to go to War in the Civil War. He wasn't there!

2. When they asked him if he'd run for the presidentcy as a third party candidate, he was being kind. I know he wanted to say "Ask a real question Tim! I know your better than that!!" What the media is trying to perpetuate is an idea for those on the fence that Ron Paul will have another chance down the road...and these primaries are not that important!

He did a fabulous job on everything. Although he got himself a little flustered and was alittle too eager to answer the Civil War question. There's really nothing we can do about the past would have been a better answer...and all we can do is learn from our mistakes! Especially when people's lives are at stake.

I like that he is a real person

Not someone who took a course in politics like the rest of them.

To become more charismatic

To become more charismatic and articficial? Like top excutives and market specilists? Those are for sheepeople.

Compare Ron Paul's speaking ability to G W Bush, i rest my case!

Dr Paul did fine! you'll see next week after the Christmas Holidays when the number of supporters continue to climb. Ron Paul actually answers Quetions!!! What other candidate even does that?? Not to worry the Ron Paul Revolution is VIRAL!!!! I'ts growing like Crazy!!!

You have to be...

FRIKKIN' KIDDING !!!!

This guy has been a Congressman for 10 terms. He speaks on the floor of the House of Representatives. He talks in front of people all the time. He campaigns, takes care of his congressional duties, makes speeches, writes books, does interviews and... he's 72 YEARS OLD !

But what's MOST important is WHAT he says. He speaks from his heart... no notes, no script, just truth. Have you heard him at a rally, if not, crack yourself a cold one, goto Ronpaulaudio.com and sit back and listen to the speech he gave at the Texas Straw Poll on Aug. 30. It's PURE GOLD !!

You'll want to give your neighbors copies for Christmas. I Have.

Oh Yeah, I almost forgot...
TURN IT UP !!

72, NOT GOING TO CHANGE HIS WAYS

hee's 72 yeers oldd and nott likelly gooing too channge hiss wayys ! I toookk speeech inn colludge and I speeks reeel gooodd twoo !

Dr. Paul is who he is!

Nit picking? We are supporting Dr. Paul for who he is, what he stands for, and not his speaking abilities. That is one of the things that is appealing about him. He is truth. He speaks from a complete belief in his beliefs, not a polished, neo-con, that speaks out the side of his ---ear.

Turn him into a neo-con??

No thank you...I love the candid and pure Ron Paul. Everyone can relate to him because he is so real and so refreshing. I wouldn't change one teeny weeny little thing about him and to try to do so would make him just like the other bobble-heads running for president. I just want to give him a huge hug :)

I think he does just fine. I

I think he does just fine.

I like his concise candor -- in fact it's one of the things that originally drew me to his campaign. He doesn't "sound" like the other politicians, and that's a huge plus in the minds of many.

I volunteer to be Ron's

I volunteer to be Ron's public speaking coach...

I love the way he speaks

wouldn't change a thing. To me he is the best speaker of any of the candidates, by far. He speaks to the point and honestly without sounding rehearsed.

Some of us apparently need

Some of us apparently need to be reminded that we are all here because we are huge fans of a stammering, unpolished candidate named Ron Paul. Unless you became a supporter based on his writing, without ever seeing or hearing him speak, then you were obviously able to look past his delivery and appreciate the content of his words -- and so will everyone else who deserves freedom.

If Ron Paul isn't the next president, it won't be due to any shortcoming on his part; it will be because we didn't work hard enough. We will get the president we deserve.

Style over substance? No thanks.

I understand what you're saying but Americans need to wake up. I'd rather have a little bit of shy type then a sleezy president who is a better public speaker. But in my opinion, I enjoy listening to Paul and have been doggedly looking for new videos and audio at every chance I get.

I agree

and I REALLY like your tagline

No one wants RP to change.

It was merely suggested that a consultation with a public speaking expert would greatly enhance his outreach.

You won't win this election if you can't grab a significant chunk of mainstream people.

You have to be joking...

You have to be joking... Obama is touted as one of the best speakers there are and have you ever listened to him? I actually can't watch his interviews because he says umm and uhh too much. It actually makes my head hurt... I havnt even noticed it with Ron.

oops - disregard

posted in wrong spot

He needs a hadler someone who knows how to answer back

Some like karl rove It is his nature to sound like that he can't help it you can hear it in his son rands voice He gets good when he's mad

Not sure if a course is actually needed

As several here have pointed out, there is an authenticity in Paul's delivery that's attractive and differentiates him from overpolished and overpracticed candidates on both sides.

That said, if I had two words of advice for the campaign:

1. Outside of forums where he has supporters, Paul should respond as if he's speaking to someone hearing his platform for the first time. In other words, "I'm in favor of eliminating the IRS, which accounts for 50% of government income, and would pay for this by eliminating foreign aid, bringing all of our troops home worldwide, and making other adjustments in domestic spending."

2. Paul is intellectually genuine, and actually responds to the specific question asked by reporters. The other candidates actively work their agendas, often ignoring or deflecting questions. While Paul's approach is useful to do on occasion, it would be better to briefly answer miscellany (like the Civil War), and focus the listener on forward-looking, synopsis statements: "Why are we talking about why the Civil War was fought, when we still have 250,000 American servicemen in harms way today? If I'm President, my first act will be to return these troops home to their families and then on to defend our own borders."

I've been a Paul supporter since his run in 1988, and those of us familiar with his positions enjoy his thoughtful answers. Those across the country who are just starting to digest his positions often don't have the attention span needed to sort through Paul's typical delivery. Rather than ask millions to change their ways, it is easier to ask Paul to adapt his message.

Not ....

Give me a break ... that's one of THE things that drew me to Ron--the uhh's and aaah's during speech show, to me, that he is honestly THINKING about words that are coming out of his mouth rather than the empty bloviation that we get from the rest .....

a-freaking-men

this is my sentiment...

EXACTLY!

ditto Amen!

honesty, transparency, integrity, morality,& Ron Paul delivers everytime, because it is him..

I like Ron Paul the way he is

I do not want him to change one bit. This "political correct stuff" is not my cup of tea.

did you people read the original post?

Nobody wants RP to become politically correct. It was merely suggested that he should work on how to explain his positions more effectively to the people who may be completely new to his message.

Today's interview was great if you knew him already, but confusing for the general public.

He is the kung fu master of the debate...

as demonstrated almost every time.

People want genuine instead of manufactured, hyped, polished and muscled through a compliant media.

He is the only candidate who has crushed all expectations. He did it without big money backing.

We have a bunch of war party puppets, then we have Paul and Kucinich.

I thought Ron rocked! Ron

I thought Ron rocked! Ron Paul has been elected and reelected more than 10 times speaking just he way he does. His message is unmistakable and nobody else even comes close to being the champion for liberty that he is. If people don't get it then we're doomed. If some are sitting on the fence at this point saying to themselves, "Gee maybe I'll vote for Huck or Hillary or Ron Paul. I'm just not sure which one to choose yet." then a more polished presentation is not going to make a difference.

Trolls

Anyone who has to start a post by saying "I am not a troll" has a guilty conscience. Guess why?

And uhhh, Yaa know...

If they follow up with,
"anyone who has even had Public Speaking 101",
most likely has not done any public speaking.
Party on!

response

Ron speaks from the heart and that is all he needs to do, that and the fact that he is smarter than all of em including Tim Russert!

He needs to be prepared

He looked like a deer in the headlights when Russert asked him how much money the IRS took in. Then his answer...a..a..alot. OMG. Then he couldnt even say what exactly he would cut to make the difference. People want specidfics. They want you to look like you know what your talking about. If you know what you are talking about then you dont need to be a slick speaker. Anyone Disagree?

I like RP's candor, but he was not at his peak today

Obviously, RP is far and away the deepest and most thorough of all the candidates. Unfortunately, even RP cannot be perfect all of the time. He handled the questions OK, but I felt less than exceptionally. While I hope many thought he did a good job, unfortunately, some clearly did not. I spent much of this afternoon making calls for the 30 days to iowa campaign, and had a couple of comments about not being impressed by RP on the show this morning.

Because we want anyone that is apathetic but mostly opposed to RP to remain apathetic, the official position of the call is to politely encourage looking further into the positions and not argue. Hopefully some of the people will look further than one interview. Usually that is the catalyst for becomming interested on RP's side if there is one.

No doubt...

That response was more than a little disappointing, especially in view of the fact that it was perfectly predictable. And, there was an easy response to it, as I pointed out in another thread:
when Russert asks the inevitable question of Ron Paul: "Your plan is to eliminate the Income Tax and replace it with nothing... are you just going to shutter the doors on the federal government?"

RP: "Well... you know, Tim, the Readers' Digest just did an audit and found that wasteful spending accounts for almost $1 trillion of the federal budget. That's "trillion" with a "t," Tim. Incidentally, Tim, $1 trillion is about what the federal government steals from the American people every year to fund that waste. Just think, Tim, if I eliminate the waste and the IRS, the federal government would still have about $2 trillion a year to fund its operations. Do you think that would be enough?"
http://www.dailypaul.com/...

That should have been an easy one to score points on.

He did somewhat better on what also was predictable, i.e., Russert's comparing his current policies on immigration with his 1988 stance during his Libertarian presidential bid. The Reagan stuff was a good hit piece, but came out pretty much a wash, in my opinion.

"Cheers for liberty, my man."

I don't think he should do interviews before 5 pm.

awww, c'mon now...

gee whiz, I mean Whizzzzz, and shucks!

oh ya, Merry Christmas :-)

this may be the case, but its to late to worry about that now

It would be great if he could be more of the alpha dog, this would convince the voters that use emotions rather than thought. And it does effect everyone subtly.

But, he is the best we have, and more than makes up for his lack of smooth TV abilities with courage.

it is not too late

We are not asking him to change his personna completely, just have a session with a professional speaker to improve his oratory skills, that is not going to make him into a Slick Willie

If you talk to a financial consultant, does it make you an Enron executive? I didn't think so. Please do not take Crickett's advise to the extreme and then ridicule it. I think he/she has a point.

I think Dr. Paul is an excellent speaker, the best I've ever seen, and I've taken public speaking courses.

Nope!

Dr. Paul does not need to do anything in regard to his "public speaking." Honesty is what appeals to people. Not polish. Most people are not polished and have no particular respect for slick candidates. I disagree. Dr. Paul should change nothing.

It seems...

that some are mistakenly linking dishonesty with great speaking abilities.

So there is no such thing as an honest and polished speaking individual?

We are incorrectly linking great speaking abilities with dishonesty after having Clinton in office. Time to reframe this thought.

Sorry ...

but, Nope.

Majority convinced by HOW things are said rather than WHAT is ..

Bottom line: He has convinced us, the 'thinkers'. We are the ones who aren't bought by slickery. How do you 'convince' the sheeple? They are 'convinced' by HOW things are said rather than WHAT is said. Ron can combine both to take on the Empire.

There are 2 fantastic Dale Carnegie books that can help, one is: "How to Develop Self-Confidence And Influence People By Public Speaking" and "The Quick and Easy Way to Effective Speaking."

It's a nobrainer, really

Lighten up on the criticism

Lighten up on the criticism of the poster it constructive criticism. The Idea that someone can't say anything less then glowing and positive is the very thing we are fighting against. George Bush has legislated it and you can be considered a terrorist for speaking against the regime.

Having said that I don't think the good Dr. needs a speaking course as I said in another post he makes George Bush sound like a 1 year old ( no offense to 1 year olds) I don't want a polished sanitized speaker that is what we have been getting well except for George Bush however I want the real man warts and all.

We don't want him to sound like a polished politician. We were all converted without him being the polished speaker like Bill Clinton and Huckabee because the truth came through so why would we want to repackage him now?

He speaks the truth and America will embrace it or reject it. We can't worry about every little nuance possibly turning off some sheeple. And we don't want unintelligent people anyways because they hijack the movement and dumb it down to the lowest common denominator and that is why we are where we are today. It a hard pill to swallow but this is a test to see if there are enough intelligent Americans today to restore liberty. We are all encouraged by the amount of people embracing Dr. Paul's message but there is a possibility we may fall short.

As Plato said: One of the penalties for refusing to participate in politics is that you end up being governed by your inferiors.

Bull - this thread needs to die.

Bull,

The poster is a tool if not a troll. Ron Paul is Ron Paul. Deal with it.

He isn't and doesn't need to take any public speaking lessons. This thread has been up all day and is the biggest waste of time.

So, don't lay off the poster, because this thread is a distraction, he should either delete it or at a minimum change the title.

(No subject)

we like him just the way he is, that is what makes HIM "HIM"

Maybe, You probably are right, sometimes when he is answering a question, i feel like if he doesn't remember anything but We have to remember that his brain is processing information faster than a computer all the books he has read and all the laws, policies & quotes that are stored in that BRIGHT brain of his makes it difficult to speak the way we think it's the best. He has to put the ideas in order. I believe his IDEAS are the ones that are going to change the way things are, not the way he speaks.
