New York Times Hit and Run on Ron Paul...on Christmas!

I saw a new Smear on Dr. Paul in the NY Times. I found it very upsetting.

http://themedium.blogs.ny...

Its regarding racism. Of course, they neglected to balance the smear by asking Ron Paul himself what his views are or quoting him or his staff on the subject. I wanted to respond, but they turned off the comments on this particular piece.

I am going to write to the editor of the NY Times because I think this shoddy journalism must have slipped by proper approval. If that doesn't bring about a retraction or some fair coverage then I will be writing to the advertisers of the NYT.

Disappointed that the original hit piece has not been pulled

It should have been retracted.

And who is this "Editor"? The person doesn't even have the decency to list his or her name? And where is the apology from Heffernan?

This is far from sufficient.

Virginia Heffernan

She is a TV critic for the NYT and is known for hard hitting news such as breaking the "lonelygirl15" story. She wrote for Slate and Harpers before being forced to resign because she was doing side work for the competition with out telling her employer. She also used to be a fact checker for the New Yorker before they let her go (hmmm wonder why?).

I sincerely hope she gets fired from the NYT. She is a major liability for them.

Here is a link to a picture and article about Ms. Heffernan:

The Old York Times is Admitting Defeat

The gates of the old order of the MSM are beginning to crash. If you look throughout history tension builds and within a matter of weeks or months an entire system can collapse, think of the USSR not even two decades ago. Many of the Eastern European countries overthrew their governments within a few weeks once the Red Army left.

But that was before the internet. The MSM may totally collapse on itself within days. Everything moves quicker these days. It’s a simple case of market forces producing ever accelerating access to knowledge. Eight days from now as the Iowa returns come in the old (i.e. New York Times, Washington Post, MSNBC, CNN, FOXNEWS, ABC, CBS, etc.), may be obsolete.

Welcome to the Free World!

I suggest as many as possible comment on this correction. Please be respectful - this is a great opportunity to show that RP has many mainstream supporters. To win we need to lose the image of a small group of crazy fanatics and the best way to do this is to show that we are not - by our actions and comments.

Pwned

They put up a retraction on the original link: "The original post should not have been published with these unverified assertions and without any response from Paul."

Also has a link to the original masterpiece, 277 comments so far. I bet that's a record for any NYT blog post.

Blog, Not NEws

This is a blog, not a news story. Opinion is allowed, it's not bad journalism.

Cancel

You may be getting The New York Times, and not even know it. Many smaller local papers are wholly owned by the Times. Let them feel the power of our little movement and cancel them.

Most of the content can be accessed online anyway, and you'll be saving some trees in the process, not to mention all the gas that is wasted as the papers are delivered.

NYT=CFR=AIPAC

That will be our algebra lesson for today!

If this Country goes into a depression

The weak and the strong can not keep the same company!!

If this Country goes into a depression, the news reporters will not be able to find a rock big enough to crawl under! The Fed had better pray to god along with all these Zionist that this Country is not pulled down with all of this greed.

What would they do if we the American people say you know that 400,000 we owe you on our house, well we are just going to pay you so you can call it even because we know you collapse our dollar and conspired to Rob the American people of their money!

men in congress know they had better go along with the American people also or else it is good rid-dens to them too.

We will lock them bastards up and throw away the key!

In the past they could do this sort of thing but now we know not to believe them and millions of people are becoming aware that these people are nothing but a criminal cartel.

If the New York times were smart they would be hedging their bets and start letting the people know they are not part of this conspiracy to destroy the American dollar to form the Amero dollar.

They are exposed and their plans will have to be put back because if they bring down this Country again, you will see a million man march and it will be to get them.

These reporters need to be mindful that we are going to hold them accountable also.

Don't come back when this thing has run it's course and try to make out like you had nothing to do with it, because it won't sell this time!

good job

The first 5 comments had already set the record straight.

Listen up, if you don't already have it done, we MUST defend this campaign as soon as these hit pieces come out. This is very important.

So YOU must be ready with back up on either what Ron Paul said or something to disprove what others said.

Link to Ron Paul's speech's or other articles of responsible journalism.

A blog is not journalism, but can be just as damaging. What amazes me is what can be put out there just because of these blogs.

How many of us have hear the Bush quote ''Just a God Damn piece of paper'' This was on Capital Hill Blue. It was done on an Op-Ed piece and the Democrats have been quoting this for years. Only problem, the guy who said Bush said it has no credibility. Oh, I found this out after he had written 2 slash articles on Ron Paul, then backtracked saying someone else wrote them and he fired them.

Still there...

Clear your cache

Or you may be on a proxy server that does not update.

It's really gone.

Tried 3 Places...

I'm in DC now, can still access the page. Remoted into my PC at home (in Atlanta - different ISP), can still access the page. Tried a couple of proxy sites, like this one, and I can access it there as well.

Are you saying, when you click this link, you get a 404?

I get the article from that

I get the article from that link. Still there. :(

Still...

...it's a good sign that they removed the links to it. They obviously know something is wrong with it.

Too many subscriptions got cancelled

Finally the reader responded to the Troll who posted that smear and they took action to delete it.

Yesss! The blog piece is gone!

Amazing. At least there are some people at the NY Times with some decency and common sense.

This is the difference that the internet has made. In the past, these print publications could basically write any sort of nonsense and get away with it. Now their reputation is at stake.

SEEMS LIKE THE BLOG GOT PULLED

...

And hopefully someone got

And hopefully someone got fired.

Virginia Heffernan is the

Virginia Heffernan is the one who is responsible for that despicable article. Did she get fired or is she still working there?

What did you expect?

The NYT has already been caught twice with reporters who lied or made up stories...they have no credibility and come from the Dan Rather school of journalism, the one that promised David Rockefeller they would 'shape' the news, not report it.

we need a pillory

In the middle ages they had a great device for petty offenders - they put them in a pillory - in public for all to see. No flogging, no jail time, just a bit of shameful exposure

I think we should compile a list of these media "geniuses" and put them into a virtual pillory. Maybe some of them, if they saw what company they are in, would start thinking about their journalistic integrity.

good idea

This is a good idea. Sort of like the Bible says, instead of taking your case to judge and jury, take it to a panel of your peers consisting of Christians. I have never understood why we don't do this instead of turning ourselves over to attorneys and judges that are basically crooked. Attorneys simply take your money and usually cause you more problems than you would have had without them.

Love it

Thanks Justin,

Thanks for spelling out for us who exactly these Ron Paul Haters are ...

Guys, please use this info to defend Ron Paul....

Merry Christmas and happy Loveolution!

Comments are now up!

I just revisited the site and they have now printed comments made since yesterday...check it out....if you sent in a response, it may be added.
Guess they got a little pressure? Anyway, the Ron Paul supporters are out in eloquent style.

93 and not one had a good word to say to or about the NYT, Heffernan, or the article.

No, not the same newspaper that....

was paying Judith Miller to give legitimacy to the fabricated case for the Iraq war. How could it be? Let's all write to them, because the editors must not know........
Please wake up folks. What the NYT and other media outlets are doing IS their job. Their business is selling advertising, which means they work for big business, and have a vested interest in the Wall St/Washington establishment. It doesn't matter if they appear to be liberal or conservative, they're all in the same business, working for the same client corporations. And they're going to stop plugging for their corporate clients because you ask them to?
Until masses of people turn them off, and stop buying from the corporations they're advertising for, nothing will change.

very well explained, thanks

Everyone who reads this, please do 2 things:

1. Remember, always, that the mass media is OWNED by the corrupt corporate elite, who tend to be part of the MIC in this country. It is not some idealistic entity which has any kind of *duty* to you, me, or anyone else. It's *property* and is used for the purposes of its owners.

Because of that, and because of the particular agenda(s) of those owners...

2. Never, *ever* call it "mainstream"; that only legitimizes it in the minds of yourself and others. Don't use "MSM" to refer to it. The presstitutes who lie for pay every day and night don't deserve to be called "mainstream". They are corporate whores. Some (Stephanopoulos) are worse than others (Cafferty), but none can be relied upon. We are the mainstream now. We're the ones knocking on our neighbors' doors, and sending them letters, and talking to them in stores and gas stations and post office lines.

The words you use have an impact of their own. Choose ones which create the reality we want, not ones which create a harmful reality. Calling enemy propaganda "mainstream" is one of the worst things we could do.

Get active NOW to put Ron in the general election. ronpaul.meetup.com

I heartily agree

Heffernan's contact link is...

http://topics.nytimes.com...

Let's tell her what we think too.

Hmmm, the same New York

Hmmm, the same New York Times who didnt want to run a factual news story about John McCain and the telecomm bill, because they have issues with "journalistic integrity" releasing such a damaging story so close to an election?

Surely, you must mean some OTHER NYT.

Sickening...

-----We cannot solve todays problems using the mindset that created them. - Albert Einstein

You can write to the NY Times public editor

This is more than a "journalist" simply not fact checking. It's clearly "yellow journalism" at its finest.

So contact the public editor of NY Times here:
His name is Clark Hoyt.
http://www.nytimes.com/20...

E-mail: public@nytimes.com
Phone: (212) 556-7652
Address: Public Editor
The New York Times
620 Eight Avenue.
New York, NY 10018

This way, the comments get back to someone other than Ms. Heffernan, and it will call attention of the "Public Editor" to the comments on the blog.

This MIGHT help somewhat in preventing a repeat of such a dirty trick on the eve of critical primaries.

Interesting to read the comments to the Heffernan blog piece. The outcry is as big as to the Newsweek attempted smear, where the "journalist" stated that the NAFTA superhighway didn't exist.

But I'm sure that the Times does not care. Expect more of same right before each critical primary.

Let the smearing begin..

WHat is it, first they ignore you, then ridicule you, and then you win...

Let them smear all they want, nobody cares. We the people no much better than to listen to these elitists in their ivory towers. Psh,...please!

This is great

Every single one of the 48 comments so far slams the author and is pro Ron Paul.

There are 75+ comments now,

There are 75+ comments now, guess they gave in to pressure to allow comments on that awful article, probably much to the dismay of the author of that awful article. Post your comments there, let your voices be heard.

I just think it sucks that

I just think it sucks that all this Neo-Nazi bullcrap is being thrown at Ron Paul for one reason: it does not matter what the facts are, as soon at the "Every-Day American" hears that Paul may, or may not, be racist, in their minds he will pretty much forever be "That One Racist Guy Running For President."

It was the same when Fox News claimed that Obama went to school at a madrasa and is a muslim. Sadly, now many people are confused on that subject (as just the other day a friend of mine said Obama didn't stand a chance because he is a muslim...which I had to correct her on).

I really hope Ron can shake these horrible accusations. It makes me so angry when I think about it really. We really are up against some of the shadiest snakes in the world here. Sometimes I think it'll be a miracle is he makes it out alive, or at least with his reputation in tact. Bless him and bless us.

It's a blog, it doesn't have to be journalism

Thats going to be the excuse.
Thats the purpose of a newspaper's website having blogs.
They have discovered that it is a way to "distance" themselves from unsavory writings.

Clever, in a way.

They consider blogs to be NEW MEDIA. Thats what an LA Times blogger told me.

The IRONY of this is that, prior to blogs, there were these things called Newsletters. Ron Paul's name was on a newsletter. Someone wrote under the Ron Paul banner..Yet Paul, for some reason is NOT ALLOWED to distance himself..Hypocrisy if you ask me.

I believe that THIS is the tact that we take, when dealing with this mess of BS. Call them on this mistake. Make them take responsibility for their writers, whether they are PSEUDO-Blogging or not.

I propose that we might even begin to call them PSEUDO-bloggers, or something similar. Because, no matter what they say, the paycheck still comes from the Newspaper.

Newspapers are NOT New Media..
Newspapers are the Huckabees of information. Old fashioned, out of touch, unreliable.

I bet the woman who wrote

I bet the woman who wrote that hit piece in the NYT, did it to counter the full page ad that Mr. Lepard put in NYT.

Not Only That

Newsday
Daily News
New York Post
New York Sun (new)
Not sure about WSJ (need input on this)

ONE SOLUTION: BOYCOTT!!!!!

I've been in NY for almost 20 years. I probably bought, well, not even 10 editions. And when I purchased them, I just want the Sudoku, Puzzle, and flyers. I just threw away the rest.

How much more when in fact, my candidate is being treated unfairly?

Go figure.

NYT and the other big papers

have been getting their a$#es handed too them since 1964.

I have done a few circulation analysis over the years and nobody under 60 reads the paper anymore. Evening editions are off by 50%. The times claim they are even, but, Manhattan and New York State numbers have eroded steadily for 40 years.

I guess if you put out a pack of lies written by gutless cowards whom can be had at any price, you eventually go out of business. Break my freakin' heart.

They own the Boston Globe and the Globe is toast. Their numbers have plummeted just in the last 10 years.

NBC TV has been refunding money to advertisers for not reaching viewership levels set out in ad contracts.

Look at the net. There must be an easy 200 news sites in the US alone. Most of these sites have a slant, but, they admit it. I taught my kids not to watch the news. They are grown now and still don't watch it. Why should they? I went to school with one of the networks evening talking heads...they are told what they can report on....this is not a conspiracy theory folks it's the truth.

We want it more than they do, so we print our own damn paper...the truth shall set you free.

T

NY Times sucks

This is really one of the worst articles I have ever read in any newspaper. Totally unsubstantiated garbage, and the "Sinkers.org" website is just lame ... if they wanted to trash Ron Paul, they could at least have come up with lies. The video link would put anybody to sleep, and convince nobody to not vote for Ron Paul.

I certainly hope that nobody supporting Ron Paul is giving money to this sham of a newspaper.

A Great Rebuttal from Grizzle Griz

The Griz says Ron Paul should sue NYT.
Here is the link

I generally don`t like

I generally don`t like lawsuits but that would get all this rascist crap out in the open.It would be a good way to put this to rest for good.

NYT Smear

Justin Raimondo at antiwar.com has a good expose on this shoddy NYT smear piece:

http://www.antiwar.com/ju...

They screened all the comments

I tried yesterday to respond with a comment...and it was apparently not "approved"...I tried twice..oh, well...(no profanity) I checked back from time to time and never saw any responses posted to that smear piece...so I assume no readers approved/agreed and the rest were all censored.

Writeres like that, sell

Writeres like that, sell outs and tools of their media master, are a vice on society, infecting minds with lies and innuendo, and hurting the American people. I'm ok with honest criticism, but this is just a hit piece. She should be ashamed of herself for writing this garbage.
Liberty, once it takes root, is a plant of rapid growth.
