Housing for when our troops come home...
Everyone is talking about this. For crying out LOUD. First bring home all of our National Guard. They belong at their own homes anyway (of course this is if they are not horribly maimed and stressed from being over there and never signing up for THAT).
Then..hey..what about all these secret prisons all over the place? Can turn those babies into bases pretty easy..OH YEAH, and how did we "house" all the Japs we threw into intermint camps?? That seemed pretty quickly arranged..and where are the empty camps now?
THIS argument has so much hooey in it it makes me sick...

Please Stop this is insane, People make sound harder than it is
I spent 8 years of my 20 year military career in the U.S. In a unit that could deploy anywhere on the face of the earth in 48 hours. It isn't our presence in foriegn lands that makes us a supper power it is the abilities and atributes of our military.
If we can project ground forces anywhere in 48 just think how much air firepower can be projected to anywhere in half that time.
Bringing all the troops home is a far less simple a task than deploying 200,000 to a war zone and executing that war. Kevin Wall, makes it sound like our military folks are retards.
The majority have Spouses and family and a primary base in the states anyway. The remainder are single and or have there family in a home town somewhere it is not hard to fold them into current bases and or stand up closed bases it is simple stop fretting over this.
Just think of the monetary infusion that haveing our troops home would have on the communities around the country where military bases are. Wow. Let alone the savings in defense spending overall. And still a super power.
How about our bases that CLOSED?
Why not re-open bases in communities that had previous base closures? I'm sure many towns could use boosts like that.
Guardsmen and Reservists
Guardsmen and Reservists already have homes.
The only problem might be finding enough stateside bases/housing for all the troops who are currently stationed overseas.
Not a huge problem, though- many soldiers already live off-base (I never lived on base when I served). We'd have to build some new barracks for the junior enlisted folks, but that wouldn't take long. Its not like we can bring back that many soldiers in a week- the move would take months or years.

530,000 troops coming home. Can you imagine what a boost
to the economy that would be? Especially, since they are already employed.
As far as housing them, what about all those bases closed by Bush I and Clinton, how about reopening them. And if they have been sold to Dubai, we can use eminent domain to get them back. After all, the Supreme Court says it's legal and we use it on our citizens everyday.
I agree, plus imagine
Things like construction on military bases, new housing starts, etc.
Last, all those military paychecks - lets see that's about $30,000 x 500,000
or 15 trillion dollars a year spent on american Beer instead of German Beer.
Great thoughts! :)
Great thoughts! :)
Exactly
Why does anyone doubt Ron Paul? He knows what he's doing, he just may not get the point across when he's being grilled in these interviews.
I don't think any of us would do much better when you are being pelted with one question after another and not given enough time to fully answer the previous question.
He barely starts to make his point before he's interrupted with another question or comment by the interviewer.
According to tim russert
There are 530K troops overseas,we have 12MILLION illegal aliens...housing and employment for returning troops is no concern whatsoever.I personally will provide a room and a job if this ever becomes an issue.
The National Guard may need employment, but
not the regular forces. Ron Paul wants to maintain a strong defense, so I don't believe he would cut back on our armed forces. He may cut back on the military industrial complex, but not our military.
Yes many Americans I feel would provide jobs and homes!
Good people like yourself! What a dumb argument. They must lie awake at night thinking of these foolish questions, and Dr Paul is so taken aback that anyone would actually pose such an idiotic scenario...who could feel that these questions are seriously deserving of "answers".
DUH. They insult him, us, and our Liberty on a daily basis. Unbelievable.

..it seems to be that the
..it seems to be that the regular troops are still in the Armed Services and need to be on the bases, This is so they can still learn rediness to defend our country and borders..NOT the National Guard, tho, which are going through a LOT as I understand it..but this "housing" thing is such a lame excuse....
How about giving them cheap
How about giving them cheap loans on all of the foreclosed homes?
They'll probably give illegal aliens first dibs on that...
