Others in the Ron Paul Mode
quiltingsando, in the Jeff Flake forum, writes:
What we need is a web site that has candidates around the country who share the same platform as Dr. Paul; we can help support their elections. I want to stress that these people would have to be checked out to make sure they walk the talk.
When Trevor Lymon stated, in the PBS interview with Maria Hinohosa, that the Revolution isn't "about Ron Paul," he was speaking about the rebirth of freedom; a rebirth that is catching on like wildfire around the country and the world. Ron Paul is the standard-bearer, but I am sure there are others who are currently in office, or who are seeking it, that are worthy of our support.
What this Revolution has accomplished in a few short months is inspiring and powerful. The media and the establishment have been put on notice; things have change irrevocably. People who were in a deep political sleep (like me) have now awakened and have become activists. Moreover it is growing every day. We need more reps in Congress, people like Ron Paul.
Quiltingsando's idea is a fine one. I don't know how to set up a web site, but certainly worthy candidates can be introduced here. All it takes is for them to put freedom and the Constitution above egoic or non-Constitutional priorities
As well, when Ron Paul makes it into the White House, he is going to need like-minded legislators in Congress. And, once our job as supporters is done, and Ron and Carol have moved into 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue, we can turn our efforts to the next worthy person, or persons; this will go a long way to preserving the efforts we put forth for Ron Paul.

Suggested rules of engagement
These three look to be as good a databank to me as any.
Liberty Congress http://www.libertycongres...
The Paul Congress http://www.paulcongress.c...
The Run with Ron http://www.runwithron.us/
I'm not a big fan personally of splitting the vote by going outside the two basic parties as a challenger: You can change parties or you can change people, but no one has been able to do both en masse' at the same time. Most Party change-overs occur, such as Whigs to Republicans or Republicans to Bull Moose, when incumbents switch their designation, and that's just the history of it.
I would suggest, absent of anything else, that we try not to split the vote between the different candidates.
To keep from stepping on one another's toes and working against eachother, here's a suggested set of guidelines for Ron Paul candidates on when to engage an incumbent, when to engage a primary challenger, and when to withdraw from the race. This particularly holds true for the local-local-local seats. If we are really doing this half blind (not knowing where others are) across the country, this might be a good set of backup rules once the dust has settled on filing season.
Giving the Incumbent a Free Pass
- If they endorsed Ron Paul, or are supportive of Ron Paul, they get a free pass
- If they endorsed a Ron Paul candidate for a Federal seat, or candidate in the Ron Paul mode, they get a free pass
- If they endorsed the following planks, they get a free pass.
DO THEY:
- Support returning control to the State Dept. of Education?
- Support returning to a commodity backed currency?
- Support repealing the 16th Amendment?
- Support repealing the 17th Amendment?
- Support accountability in the Deployment of National Guard Troops?
- Support the idea of a Border Fence?
When Two or More Ron Paul/Liberty candidates are running for the same seat.
- The older members are for the State Senate
- Younger members go for the State House
Who drops out of a primary
If two candidates are running for the same seat, score a point for each of these, and decide who should stay in:
The race should go to:
- The person who has been running for the race longer wins over the person who just entered
- The person who is older wins over the person who is younger
- The person with the most college wins over the least college
- The person who has served with a meetup group longer wins over the new comer
- The person who has attended the most meetups wins over the fewer meetups
- If a Meetup Group is in, or within 20 miles of a district, the person that the meetup group supports wins over the person the meetup does not support.
- The person with prior political experience wins over a person without prior political expenence
So who ever has most “points” out of the seven above ought to run the race to win.
Suggested Etiquette
- Stay within either the Republican or Democratic Parties. More than this will split the liberty vote.
- Attempt to raise $2300 for Dr. Paul
- Attempt to raise $2300 for a Federal Congressional seat that we endorse
- Attempt to gain Yard signs for Dr. Paul as well as yourself.
- Attempt to gain Congressional Yard signs for a Paul candidate as well as yourself.
- Do not run AGAINST the Opponent, but FOR the Platform and Dr. Paul. Stay positive, attempt to burn no bridges. They may be needed in 2010.
- When two candidates from opposing parties meet after the primary (this is how it’s done) neither attacks the other. Both run on their own merits and their own platform.
The Constitution Party
There is already a political party in place currently and it is The Constitution Party.
It is actually about the same size as the Libertarian party and bigger than the Green party.
Why re-invent the wheel? Google Constitution Party and see what you think.
Interestingly, The Constitution Party has stated that they are holding off on nominating a presidential candidate just in case Ron Paul doesn't get the Republican nomination....b/c they would LOVE to have Dr. Paul run on the Constitution ticket (as proboly the Libertarians would too).
They have endorsed Dr.Paul for the republican nominee, being the best constitutionalist candidate .
I disagree...
The Constitution Party, as much as I like it, is very religious-based. Many of the non-Christians on this forum wouldn't go anywhere near them, IMO.
Ron Paul 2008!
Lot's of people would like to see more than a 2 party system
but the media barrons have been quick to squash all efforts, so as not lose control of their little game. Even Ron Paul realized that a 3rd party just doesn't stand a fair chance. Heck, he's not getting a fair shake running as a Republican! But just think, if it were not for Ron Paul being in the race, would most of us care much about who wins? Not me....all the rest are the same. Eventually, maybe a viable 3rd, or 4th party can evolve. Wouldn't it be a cool note for it to be called the Ron Paul Party - over time, it could really flourish.
great idea...RPP website
the website should be the RonPaulParty..RPP.& the candidates listed with background,etc.. who are closely aligned with RRP who want to run for office on the entire RPP platform..list the office they seek..the state etc.. blah blah..great idea..no.. wait..suberb idea..this is absolutely how we peacefully change the world..
I would propose
that we start up Meetups specifically for this purpose, tied to Ron Paul's name. I know some Meetups actually have something like this in mind and here in Springfield, MO several of us have been discussing this, both locally and state wide and we are going to be vetting candidates.
I say tied to RP's name because the political class would then be on notice as to what sort of candidates we will be looking for/supporting. Believe me, even though some like to make fun of us, RP's grassroots support has not gone unnoticed by the political class and they secretly wish they had us in their corner.
We already have the infrastructure in place; we can, after the presidential election, convert it to this use.
This is an excellent idea
that needs to be further discussed and developed. Local Ron Paul meet ups that further his platform at the grass roots level. The local level could tie their candidates and promotion ideas to a national Ron Paul meet up so we could keep connected and motivated. ACTIVE CITIZENS for responsible government. We have let others do what was our responsibility. We cannot turn our backs on politicians and think our wallets are safe. Get involved stay involved.
Good idea
.
If there were a way for you to get you idea out to other meetup groups this would be a good thing.
So obvious that I don't think anybody else noticed.
.
Running with Ron
Please see www.runwithron.us as well as www.paulcongress.com for more RP candidates!
We need 1,000's to Run With Ron:
1) every NEW candidates floods the sytem
2) this is a great way to bring Ron's platform down to the Congressional race level.

Freedom threads make Liberty Fabric
Hi All,
Been thinking about this for quite a while. Where I live, there are many freedom threads acting independently of each other, homeschoolers, RKBA activists, property rights advocates, etc. There is very little overlap between these groups. So, how do you get all the freedom lovers on the same page acting in harmony?
There is a cool product called Visual Thesaurus (http://www.visualthesauru...) that shows relationships. Could this be used as an engine for tying together freedom threads?
Another possibility is a database of candidates who are ranked by various measures. For example a person never elected to office may only have his word or his private actions to go by, but an incumbant can be evaluated based on past performance.
With wikipedia, net knowledge is used to create entries on wide ranging topics. Is it possible to make a template that can be modified like wikipedia for the use of freedom lovers?
The anchor websites that were already posted are just the beginning of what we really need. Many of those websites are philosophical in nature, but would not be used to identify the best candidate in a race.
Wow, I really really
like your in put. I don't know anything about computers but your description of the site sounds wonderful. Of course, the site would have to have a comment area like the DailyPaul this is key to keeping the site fresh and interesting.
Great Idea!
This campaign has awakened or reinvigorated so many people who want liberty, that it would be a shame to see it disappate after the election. Win or lose, there will still be a lot more work to do to restore the republic.
I don't think there is an existing website that would fit the bill. A transpartisan site that allows people to network and support constitutionalist/small government candidates could do a lot.
There are existing parties/caucuses that put forth good candidates, but we need a site to bring them together. Off the top of my head I know there are good people in the Libertarian Party, Republican Liberty Caucus, Democratic Freedom Caucus, Constitution Party and some others.
It's important to make sure that these people are legitimate though. For instance both Ron Paul and Tom Tancredo are members of the RLC, but there are big differences between them.
We need many more candidates like Ron Paul, people who are committed to their principles, but with cross party appeal. It would be important to keep an eye on how these folks are voting, and remove support if they yield to the corrupting influence of Washington.
I agree with you
Nick we want smaller government that is not controlled by lobbyists. We put them in we can vote them out. What is so great about the DailyPaul is the discussions we have here. I have learned so much in such a short time. Keeping Dr. Paul's speeches and views in front of me helps me catch up to years of neglect of my voter responsibility. I am so thrilled to see so many young people who GET IT. Like the old saying "Use it or Lose it"
Others do exist
After Dr. Paul wins the primaries, go to
http://www.lp.org/ and you will find all the
like-minded people you could ever hope for.
I had to change my affiliation from libertarian to
republican to vote for Dr. Paul in the primaries.
In a couple of months, I'll be going straight back.

Great info
Heres what I would like to
Heres what I would like to see in a web site. the main page is a map of the united states. You click your state and then enter your zip code. then candidates come up and biographies about them and voting records. Also district judges and if people could blog about them. so we know how to vote for each public official. It will take a group effort, im not sure if what Im suggesting is realistic- but it sure would be nice to gemy information from one site and refer other to.

The Work is All Done
Guys, go to www.thenewamerican.com and click on "The Freedom Index." The New Americans been doing it for over 60 years. Email Ron Paul and ask him about the New American. Ron's a frequent contributor to the periodical and they write about Ron all the time.
They also have a congress and senate contact website for activism. They're the best in the business.

Nothing there, btw
Maybe what we are working
towards is a Good Housekeeping Seal of Approval. What if it didn't matter what party the candidate was with. Our umbrella covers many different people brought together with one common goal, Truth. In a fair society the third parties should have had their voices heard. Competition is good. I am an independent so I have always voted for the individual not a party.
No matter how we voted in the past we have always been disappointed because our candidates said one thing and once elected did another.
Ron Paul always speaks TRUTH sometimes we like what we hear sometimes not but we always know where he stands. Dr. Paul's field guide has always been the Constitution.
So somehow, we need to look for certain characteristics that Dr. Paul possesses in other candidates. Honesty, consistent record, humble, Constitutional foundation. Now, to make everyone happy this is where it might get dicey.
Say, we have a gay man in California running for governor. He has Dr. Paul characteristics but hey, maybe a strict Christian wouldn't want him but other people wouldn't mind. Our web site could list these things and leave it up to each individual whether they wish to support that person.
The most important thing we would know is this is a honest person who supports the Constitution. After each term we could grade to see if they were still honest and continued to support the Constitution.
It could be the Seal of the Constitutional Republic. When a candidate earned this seal we could feel confident that our money, time and rights were in good hands. Peace
It only works if we stay together
We need one location everyone references. Too many places and the effort will get fragmented. Can we just add a section of profiles to the Daily Paul?
I disagree
It only works if there is a marketplace of differing and competing reference sites. After all, different people in the liberty movement have different political viewpoints and need ratings that are reflective of their own thinking.
Above that, this movement cannot abide a single point of failure. If a site gets co-opted or bought out or simple goes dark due to unforeseen circumstances, others must be in place to carry on.
The important thing to me is that only sites that work to bring the movement together by transcending party labels have any value for the movement. Sites that actively work to divide the movement by party label or certain single issue parameters such as religious affiliation, gender, race, ethnic background and certain other divisive litmus tests, are not needed.
Already the purveyors of http://www.PaulCongress.c... and http://LibertyCongress.or... , for example, are in communication with each other and have agreed to friendly competition using slightly different candidate criteria. I think the competition makes both sites stronger this strengthening the freedom movement itself.
The more the merrier
The more inter-related sites the better. More internet buzz, content that can be tailored to specific areas and still link to other sites.
LibertyCongress.org
http://LibertyCongress.or... is my site for tracking Liberty oriented candidates and incumbents from all parties. We have already initially rated about 40 candidates and have another 60 or so queued up for our moderators to review.
In fact, if you want to help moderate the site, please visit the Project Help Wanted section of RonPaulForums and follow the suggestions. We have 3 moderators thus far and need at least 2 more if we hope to keep up with the flood of candidates in 2008 (and the tsunami in 2010.)
The Constitution Party likes Ron Paul, read their evaluation of
Dr. Paul at the Constitution Party website:
http://www.constitutionpa...
How about collaborating with the Constitution, Libertarian and other like minded political parties that are already established to get a slate of candidates to back up Dr. Paul in both houses of congress?
This would diffuse the argument that says he won't be able to make many changes as President because he doesn't have the votes to support him in the congress and senate.
Dr. Paul is going with the Republican party, but the candidates of the other parties wouldn't have to change their affiliation.
If Dr. Paul gets the Repub. nomination -- we could just vote a split ticket. They would still be in congress to support his platform no matter which party they hail from.
As the saying goes, if it doesn't matter who gets the credit (Rep. Con. Lib) there's no limit to what can be accomplished!
Ooooh! FABULOUS!

Republican Liberty Caucus
I want you ALL to know that the Republican Liberty Caucus is NOT a good place for Ron Paul supporters to go.
The RLC was founded by Eric Dondero, the fired former aide to Congressman Ron Paul. Dondero is a neo-con "libertarian" (I use the word loosely).
Eric Dondero has endorsed Rudy Giuliani for president. He believes in an interventionist foreign policy. Real libertarians are against mass-murder by the state. You'd be much better served by reading up on http:\\www.lewrockwell.com.
Lew is the President of the Mises Institute and is a true libertarian and advocate of freedom. Eric Dondero is absolutely, 100% not to be trusted. A snake in the grass, if ever there was one.
Jason Bennett
http:\\bloodofapatriot.blogspot.com
Kansas: As bigoted as you think.
Eric Dondero is 100% anti-Ron Paul
If he's involved with it, stay away. He's quite possibly the most immature, idiotic, Paul-hating spreader of blatant lies I've ever met.
If you want to see, first hand, what I'm talking about, just join his Yahoo! group for Republican Libertarians.
The guy is NOT a Libertarian in any way, shape, or form. He actually made a comment that he was "warming up to Mitt Romney because he showed his Libertarian side by allowing pay-per-view pornography in his hotels. Romney stated "Adults can choose what they want to do in their private lives"."
So because Mitt allows porn in a hotel room, he's a good choice for Libertarian minded voters? The guy is a complete fool.
The Liberty Caucus
is not the same as the Liberty Committee right? The Libery Committee is Pro-Paul.
http://www.thelibertycomm...
fear no dondero!
Come on!! We can overwhelm online polls, and even crash servers as a group. Can't we ensure this group stands for Liberty? Maybe some might call it a take-over....
WYRLC, our new state charter, is composed of 100% pro Paul supporters. We do not advocate violence (pre-emptive wars), we advocate Liberty, and all of the Freedoms associated with it!

The RLC is where I first heard about Ron Paul, Mark Sanford, and Jeff Flake. Wikipedia says Dondero's oft advanced claim to have founded the RLC is hotly disputed by the current leadership, and that he's no longer connected with the organization.

And the President and Vice President
218 + 51 + 5 + 2 = 276
The Ron Paul Revolution is currently focused on the president & vice president. We can't do much about the judges since they are appointed for LIFE.
But we CAN work to change the HOUSE & SENATE!!! The middle and lower incomeclasses (most of us) dwarf the rich in number. With your financial help, we can replace corrupt, unconstitutional representatives. 1,000,000 peoplegiving $25 or $50 each is far more effective than 1,000 people giving themaximum $2,300. Paul-like candidates
There are thousands of candidates like Ron Paul. They are all members of the Libertarian Party. The timing is right for a third party. WWW.LP.ORG
Lessons For The L.P.
I'm a member of the Libertarian Party and the candidacy of Ron Paul has educated me of the fact that no third party candidate, save a celebrity, has any chance of ever breaking 1% in a presidential election unless election laws throughout the U.S. are changed first. Ron has played by all the rules and still every effort has been made to marginalize him. If that can be done to a 10 term REPUBLICAN candidate then a third party candidate really has no chance. Besides changing election laws (barriers protecting the status quo) the only other thing that can be done is to try and change either the Republican or Democrat party from within. That has now become crystal clear to me.
Also, it's important for those that know little about the L.P. to understand that there is a moral philosophy guiding Ron Paul's positions. He will speak about obeying the Constitution but that's just the applied side of the philosophy -- which is the * non-initiation of force.*
It's the non-initiation of force philosophy (which, by the way, is what freedom is all about) that helps keep the L.P. "pure." You have to have a guiding philosophy. That's the reason the L.P. has been able to survive since the early 70's while other third parties have quickly come and gone.
I agree.
I was a congressional candidate (got 15%) in 2002. My state of Neb.
has decertified the LP for now, so I'm registered Rep. But I expect
to be in the Twin Cities in Sept. for the convention. It could be a brokered convention. I'm hoping the LP will nominate Ron Paul (on the second ballot of course) regardless of what happens in the primaries. If it is a brokered GOP convention I will have the argument to use that
if they do not go with Ron Paul, there will almost certainly lose the general election. Besides, with the political climate as it is, I honestly believe we could win in a three-way race if it comes down to it.
The Constitution Party maybe also.
.
You may be right about timing. Certainly people like the message of liberty and freedom. In the past the Libertarian party, when Harry Browne was its candidate, was barely a blip in the radar. Now it's a Blimp on the radar. So to speak.
