Make FOX Pay for its Huge Gamble

From the previous forum, posted by Khomar:

The first thing I would like to say is that I believe Fox News has made a serious tactical blunder. They are taking a huge risk by gambling everything on a poor turnout for Ron Paul in Iowa. If Ron Paul should place in the top three, his absence from their debate will certainly not go unnoticed by the American public. There will be a lot of people who will be wondering (and yes, sadly, there are still people who haven't been paying attention) who this Ron Paul guy is that did so well in Iowa, and they will be surprised when they find out Fox News didn't get him.

Fox is making a huge gamble. Let's ensure that it doesn't pay off. There are some excellent ideas in the other thread. Our biggest advantage is that we can communicate directly with one another and organize. Some excellent ideas that should be expanded upon:

  • The year end money bomb needs to take Ron Paul over $20 million. How can they justify excluding the candidate that raised the most money in the quarter?
  • Picket your local FOX affiliates. Use signs with slogans like "Why is Fox afraid of Ron Paul?" There is an excellent list in the other forum.
  • Have a real Town Hall at the same time. Invite other experts and go deep into Ron Paul's ideas and policies. Invite the old media, and use that money to buy airtime to broadcast the whole thing- without commercial interruptions. People watching the debate will switch channels to see what is going on at this event.
  • Get the blimp up there! Blimp, if we ever needed you, we need you in New Hampshire!
  • Buy full page ads in the NH papers on the day of the debate advertising and questioning the fact that Ron Paul was excluded
  • Enlist the help of the old media from Fox's competitors: Cafferty, Tucker, Morning Joe and even Keith Olbermann. Olbermann has never said anything about Dr. Paul as far as I know, but I think this could motivate him for one of his rants. "Fox, how dare you - exclude the only anti-war Republican from your so called debate..."
  • The key, above all, in all of our activities is NON VIOLENCE. Dr. Paul has spoken at length about the heroism of non-violent, civil disobedience. IF ANYONE ADVOCATES VIOLENCE - THEY ARE NOT A TRUE RON PAUL SUPPORTER! REMEMBER THAT, AND SHUN, EXPOSE AND REPORT ANY SUCH IDEAS OR PEOPLE.

One of the opposition's strategies will likely be to goad us into violence. Don't take the bait. We've got the enemy on the run. It is time to go for the metaphorical kill.

    More ideas welcome below.

What if?

We all turned our TV's on at the same time that the FAUX debate starts to a different channel. Would they feel that?

No Help From The MSM - Not Now, Not Ever

The MSM hasn't given us equal air time, or even a fair shake for that matter. Did anyone ever think they would? When The Good Doctor does get air time, they try their best to make him look foolish. But our Hero handles them well. I'm so proud of Ron for running a clean campaign. He does not attack other candidates. He keeps his arguments above the fray.

We must not overreact. We must follow Dr. Paul's advice on this issue, whatever that may be. The good people of New Hampshire will find out about this, and they will look to all of us to see what we will or won't do. Please remember that we have supporters who lack maturity and sometimes do the wrong thing. Don't be one of them. Constrain others and remind them that their actions are a reflection of Ron Paul. Remember, YOU Are Ron Paul, and I am Ron Paul, so let's act accordingly.

I think telephone calls, emails, letters, and even demonstrations are fine. But do it with distinction, class, no cussing, no four letter words, no violence of any type, no damaging property, etc. Did I really need to remind everyone of this? Yes. And you remind others as well.

We don't own the airways and are subjected to their rules, and even their abuse. But we still have three more major networks. Let's not do anything that would give them excuse to follow suit. Fox is not the "end of the campaign" and neither is one single debate. We must see the larger picture. This is single battle. It will not effect the outcome of the War.

Here's an important point from a LRC article by William Huff:
http://www.lewrockwell.co...
"Remember we don't need a majority to prevail. It almost never works that way. In politics a tiny margin can make all the difference. Don't worry that everyone is not convinced that America needs to return to her roots. That didn't even happen in 1776 or 1789. We will always have Tories and Hamiltonian Whigs, not to mention NEOCONs, with which to contend. It is human nature to strive for ill-gotten gains from political advantage. There are always those who think they are born to lord it over others. The fight goes on until Kingdom come. Begin to think through winning the next election. Plan to be a citizen educator for the rest of your life – and beyond. Leave a legacy of students behind who will be able to carry on."

I can only speak for myself, but assure you that I won't be giving-up or quiting if we don't win the nomination. In the spirit of Jefferson and Arron Russo, I'm just getting started. I'll continue this quest for Freedom for the rest of my life. And I doubt if the majority of you will throw in-the-towel and quit either. Is it a R3volution or not? I believe it is.

Let's take full advantage of the tools we do have. That being the DVD medium, word of mouth, the internet, and canvassing. Shame on you if you haven't yet knocked on your neighbors doors. But there's still time to do so. At least do 100. If we loose and you haven't done 100 doors, then you won't get any sympathy from me. And worse, you may not respect yourself either.

And here:

Focus on more votes. Bring voter registration forms, DVD's, fliers, and your enthusiasm. Just tell people that you love, respect and trust Ron Paul, and they can too. Ask for help, bring a buddy, ... whatever. If each of us takes personal responsibility for winning, we win.

Get on it folks. Do it now. Take action. Let's pony-up and ride to the finish line.

False Flag Media Event?

Many of us Ron Paul supporters believe there is group of powerful people who do not want to see Ron Paul or his message spread. RP himself used the phrase "scared of me", in other words the stakes in this "game" are high. But here's where my cynicism will show itself, leaving him out of the debate may be part of a larger plan to discredit Ron Paul and his supporters.

Though I support appealing to RP supporters to stay cool headed and smart about their responses, I think "false flag" media event is real possibility. It doesn't take an infiltration into a grassroots group or a genuine but misguided supporter to create a disruption, one could be entirely fabricated. Leaving him out would give a motive for the "supporters" and prove we are a the determined, "loony", and few. This would provide the MSM/Fox with ammo, since very little else they try seems to slow down the r3volution.

I think both the campaign and grassroots efforts should put some thought into damage control and preemption of negative publicity for such an event -- if at all possible. As RP continues to gain traction ($, supporters, etc) I think this type of "false flag" media event is becoming more likely even if it doesn't occur next week.

Any thoughts? Is this a legit concern or am I too paranoid?

Don't let this dirty Psyop trick distract us from our goal

Make signs, canvass and get out the vote.

WE ARE THE RON PAUL MEDIA!!!
WE ARE THE RON PAUL MEDIA!!!
WE ARE THE RON PAUL MEDIA!!!

"Victory for liberty! That is our goal, and nothing less. -- Ron Paul, December 17, 2007"

No sabatage of the Debate!!!!

Please remove this option from consideration!! Can you say "Blowback"?

Don't Prove Them Right!

On December 29th, 2007 NinerSevenTango says:
Fox News wants to paint all Ron Paul supporters as loonies, outsiders, fringe, kooks, whatever.

DO NOT give them ammunition to fire at the campaign in the days leading up to these crucial primaries.

WE NEED to be able to let the world point at FOX as the foolish ones overplaying their hand. WE NEED the world to see that FOX is trying to squash the constitutional and pro-freedom message.

WE ARE BEING WATCHED. HERE. NOW.

A very old tactic, used by organizations around the world, is to infiltrate a group, find its most unstable and gullible members, and provoke them into doing something completely off the wall. Don't allow yourself to be turned into a 'lone gunman', or part of a 'mob'!

This is crucially important right now.

If we have logic, reason, and truth on our side, now is the time to demonstrate that.

Remember that evil springs from impotence. The impotence of their philosophy is their weakness. They are afraid of the freedom message, and would like to get some of us to discredit it, preferably by an attack on them. Their fall from grace will be from a greater height if it is by their own actions. If they exclude Dr. Paul from their forum, it discredits them, not us or Dr. Paul. Disrupting their forum will only give them an excuse to discredit us and rally their audience in their defense.

It could cost us the election.

Use reasonable, peaceful means to express your displeasure, but please, please, do not hand FOX a gun to shoot us with!

If anyone causes a disruption at that event, the commentary will be all about the kooks who support Dr. Paul (and they will drag up every kook they can think of). They will spin on ad nauseum about how dangerous a grass roots campaign is, how incompetent Dr. Paul is for not controlling his supporters like the others, how the neocons were right about the backlash against the state being a threat of homegrown terrorism, plus whatever else they can think up. Their tactic will be to paint Dr. Paul as 'unpresidential'.

They are searching for anything negative to report about the campaign, because they cannot win any arguments against following the constitution.

Please don't sabotage the campaign!

FOX News comes from the viewpoint that supports measures to enact police state powers. All they need now is a visible demonstration to prove their point that freedom-lovers are unstable wackos who can't be trusted with their freedom.

Thanks for reading this far, and sorry for disagreeing with your last point, Michael.

Respectfully,

D-Blade -- I agree.

Thank you for your crystal clear thoughts and spot-on advice.
I completely agree.

Agreed Sabotage of the Debatesis a Bad Idea

I agree, sabotaging the debate would be a bad idea, and would blow back on us, and as other's noted, may be a trap. Hold another large rally and show up in force at that one. Make sure Ron Paul does very well in Iowa and have a huge money bomb so that his name is all over the media and see Fox explain why they left out the candidate that took in the most money and did so well in Iowa.
Above all stay out of the debate center, and away from the center as well, everyone needs to show up at Ron Paul's Town Hall meeting. I can see the other media jumping all over Fox for this if everyone stays calm, and has a huge turnout at his own Town Hall, especially after another large money bomb and good numbers in Iowa. Push to finish in the top 3 to 5 in Iowa, then a huge win in NH, and who cares what Fox does, they will be the ones with mud on their face so long as we don't fall into the trap.

Blowback

Oh the Minions so easly forget, at their own parallel.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_vJmgMqIJTQ

Yes please!

Please take this "NON VIOLENT sabotage of the debate" off the list right away. This is NOT an option under ANY circumstances. People would be removed right away, and violence would naturally ensue when they refused.
This is not a good suggestion and the staff has already planned something for us! They know by now how to deal with this! Remember ITR/ICA in Iowa?
If we have 5,000 people at an alternative event, that will be televised, how can it not. People will say, what the heck is the matter with FOX and it will blowback on them.

No protesters

Mr. Mike,
First let me say your doing a GREAT job and I believe that you have some good ideas, but the protestors in the audience will be a catastrophie for us if it is not done right. I think you should bannish the idea of being able to control the protestors, it will not be possible. Have them outside of the debate and if you get enough of them you could do more to disrupt the proceedings by the noise alone. Having them inside would be taking one heck of a risk, causing you to have to denounce an action of a supporter at a later date even though you initiated the action this will not set well with other supporters or with the media.
A case in point would be Dean in the primaries all he did was scream, and many people lost faith we must keep the public faith, outside demostrations aimed at supporting Ron Paul like in Kentucky or Missouri is fine anything that may cause security to put hands on someone would be disasterous

LOL, the "Dean Scream" was

LOL, the "Dean Scream" was the most overblown item in the global history of politics. Absolute, irrefutable proof that the media controls America. They "diagnosed" him as mentally unstable, and that was that -- campaign derailed. For "showing feelings. Showing feelings of an almost human nature. This will not do."

Ron Paul!

It's so hard to write a kind letter to these people.
I like the vocal audience idea.
One should consider the tasers as well. From what I have seen it looks like it is a lot of fun shooting people with those inhumane devices.
Abolish the 14th amendment!
Go Ron Paul!

Just one...

The problem with the last suggestion is, it won't work for long because you would be ejected for disrupting even if it's just with your voice. Can you say, 'Don't tase me bro'? Seriously, I told Kent, we can have 5,000 at an alternative rally there in a instant. There are already 1,000 people here who would attend, that I know.

Olbermann hates Paul because he considers him 'right wing' and Olbermann is a statist, so I wouldn't count on that.

Money bomb, yes.

Picket FOX, YES.

Write to sympathetic journalists, YES.

I am planning on calling a few myself today.

Nielsen diary

My brother got a call from Nielsen TV ratings, they said they'll be sending him a diary to keep track of his TV viewing for a week.

I'll make sure he does not include Fox News and record any show or network that has Ron Paul.

Nielsen ratings are huge in the TV world.

1,000 people in NH? How many votes could that get us.

OK.
Option A : 1,000 people in NH, hang around the round table discussion. Empire hires a few thugs to be disruptive. All on national TV. Candidates inside all made uncomfortable by persistent interruptions and disruptions - trying to talk - their message is not heard. Giuliani says - and people like these, who want to prevent democracy, and us from being heard - we (Republicans) are not them. They are outsiders.

Net effect on votes for Ron Paul in Republican Primaries - maybe minus hundreds of thousands.

Option B: Same 1,000 people in NH. Used to help canvass, talk individually to voters, distribute Slim Jims, make arrangements to drive people to the polls. NH voters realize that Ron Paul is excluded. They like a sense of fairness and get angry that he is being excluded.

Net effect on votes for Ron Paul in Republican primaries - plus several tens of thousands in NH, enough to get Ron Paul a victory.

You decide. Fight hard or fight hard but smart.

Ron Paul Responds: Fox is scared.

Town hall style debate would be my vote

We could try to get all of the meetup groups to hold a open debate at their local town halls and join them all together via the phone and web. If we get some good people like Mr. Walker to debate RP on his message and invite local media, I think we would out do fox's debate. We could hold it right after their debate so we can answer any questions left behind from the debate. We won't have the time restraints that tv does so who ever is invited would be assured to have the time to express thier opinions.

Anti War Rally

An anti-war rally with Dennis Kucinich, Ralph Nader, Cindy Sheehan and CodePink. This event could solidify contacts with antiwar groups like MoveOn.org

I would hold it either in San Francisco or New York City.

Famous Quote from Justice William O. Douglas

"The Constitution is not neutral.
It was designed to take the government
off the backs of people."

OMG

You have to be kidding? These are not people Ron would want to be associated with. Not at all. They may agree on the war but THAT'S IT. That would be JUST THE FODDER FOX would need to trash us even further.

Please, folks, remember that Ron is a REPUBLICAN! Wow...

Stupid idea

An anti-war rally with a bunch of leftists? Please. I don't want Paul to be associated with these moonbats. He'll lose conservative voters.

No Thanks

Sometimes people are right on an issue for the wrong reasons. I'd welcome a vote for Ron Paul from them, but none of their agendas fit very well with the constitution. And the press will definitely have a field day with that!

NO! No, no, no, no,

NO!

No, no, no, no, no.

Horrible, horrible idea.

Lets buy air time

During the debate, lets buy advertising time. Not the sanitized type but a real grassroots youtube style advertisement. How about multiple one minute spots?
We all know we can raise the money.
Lets spend this money on another network at the same time as the debate. Don't place any ads on Fox; Don't give fox any business. Lets not watch any debate without Ron Paul in it and lets watch their ratings sink.
I would not disrupt the Fox debate. This is their property and they have rights to do what they want.

Know thine enemy...

Please, take a deep breath, stop, and THINK!!! Don't let your anger and frustration destroy all of our hard work. It's obvious that Fox is trying to use our enthusiasm and organization against us. They're trying to bait us into doing something rash, so they can plaster it all over their news and use us to discredit Dr. Paul. Don't give them the time of day!!!

WE NEED TO FOCUS!!! Let's hit them where it hurts - VOTES. Let's win Iowa! Let's win New Hampshire! Let's get out there and do everything we can to get MORE VOTES. Stunts that are not going to produce more RP votes on election day are a waste of time. That's what Faux wants!!!

Forget about the forum, let the campaign handle it. Our job is to help Ron Paul get votes - period! So instead of discussing how to sabotage a debate, let's keep knocking on doors, making phone calls, writing letters, donating money, (or raising money to donate), support existing efforts in IA and NH, etc... Think of how YOU can get more new votes for RP between now and election day.

BLIMP

I doubt if the blimp can get to NH due to the weather and it's location. BUT... there is a man a wonderful supporter in Va. that has a large one that he is using getting lots of TV and news paper coverage there and would probably bring it to NH to use there. It is a great replica and lit at night so it fairly glows. Jack Faw in Va is a very good supporter with every intention of doing everything in his power to get Ron elected. Why not ask him to bring it up and use it the night of the forum?

jackfaw@webtv.com just write and ask, can't hurt. Just tell Jack the big mouth gave out his email address.

Yes, votes are good. Votes

Yes, votes are good. Votes are what we, as Ron Paul supporters are here to get.

However, as an American citizen, I will be contacting my local faux advertisers and letting them know about this. I will be using my clout as the 'consumer' that they love to call me...

The Founding Fathers recognized threats "in principle" and addressed them. This action by faux has gone way beyond principle, into absolute, flashing-red-light censorship of our electoral process.

It cannot stand unchallenged.

Ad Bomb

I love all the comments, but we must beat them at the game,Money is our power,we must raise money to get an Ad on CBS(not fox)to tell the Truth in how Fuax's debate is just a Pro War Big Gov Tax and spend meeting and Ron Paul is not part of that!!!!!
More People will see it on CBS and get Ron Paul's Truth,we have the Truth that is all we need.......

That said I also support the Boycott of Fox advertisers that is also our Power....

We Know now that we are winning that they are that scared......
We need that Ad by Jan 2nd to make an inmpact on Iowa....

I just called the RP campaign HQ

I asked the press office to speak to Dr. Paul about giving us, his supporters, a press release on how he feels we should handle this exclusion.

Please cool your jets, Fox is toying with us. Dr. Paul isn't going to loose anything by being excluded unless we show stupidity and make this a debacle for him!

IGNORE THIS!

Concentrate on winning new votes for him, get out on the streets and talk to people!

Spread the message not the hatred for FOX!

Yes agree

Consider Ron's response in Pindell's article here:

http://www.boston.com/new...

It is not knee-jerk, says we WILL get the message out, and is not reactionary in any way. There is still time to plan something that night, Ron will be here anyway, so it's just a question of should it be a huge rally, townhall meeting, or what...
To wit:

"Paul's staff said they are beginning to plan a rally that will take place at the same time the 90-minute debate will air on television. It will be taped at Saint Anselm College in Goffstown."

Disrupting the round table discussions is a FOOLISH idea

At any level.

I remember what happened when the 911 truthers tried this on the Bill Maher show, and also when they "confronted" Bill Clinton.

This could cause great harm to Dr. Paul and to the campaign.

Mike, please remove this option from your list of suggestions. It's the stupidest idea I've heard of in a long time.

whistle Blowers

Mike, please remove this option from your list of suggestions. It's the stupidest idea I've heard of in a long time.

It is not a stupid idea, the whistle blowers do it all the time.. they use a whistle, simply stand up and blow.. yes they get thrown out but they accomplish what they want. It would be better to have women do this as they are not as likely to be treated violently in public like the "don't taze me bro" guy..lol...If I can get there I will do it.. not a problem. I could use a nice restful jail cell for a day or two....

YOU

Are why we get called "KOOKS"...Make a huge fuss right before the Iowa caucus, yep, that sure as hell will help.. Why not plan some assinine stunt the night before the NH primary too...

I have actually seen people

I have actually seen people dismiss Paul's fundraising success by suggesting that people who donate to Ron Paul are the same types who fall for those Nigerian e-mail scams. So don't expect money to connote respectability.

No Signs, No Ranting, No one inside to Yell or disrupt!

All of us should make a pact to do this! When we do, Fox will have LOST their little game they are playing! They are messing with US, not Dr. Paul....can't you see that! They can't get anything on him to make him look bad OTHER THAN US!

I say get Dr. Paul on Larry King that night, so that people that have brains in this country will have another choice that night for what they can watch on TV!!

I disagree

I like everything about the original post. Nothing wrong with calling FOX on their move. It is time to create strategy, I like your idea, but I also like the idea of having Paul Supporters in the FOX audience to call them on their move. WHERE IS RON PAUL? Should be called from the audience for those that are watching FOX. I think Paul supporters should be seen in every news broadcast. I don't think the media should be able to cover anything without a Paul supporter in the background. I personally love seeing all the Paul supporters everywhere Gouliani goes. We will not be ignored! We will not lay down!

Knock on doors

How about a Ron Paul army knocking on doors at the same time this debate on fox is to appear on tv?

I like that idea

I know I will not be watching the debate and what better way to highlight the fact Ron Paul was excluded. We would get more supporters that way IMHO. Plus it is a positive move toward the goal of getting Ron Paul elected.

Remember the planted rock throwers in Canada demonstration

I think this is a trap.

They want to have a huge demonstration at the debates.

They will plant a few "violent demonstrators" - throw a few rocks, cause a ruckus. This will associate Dr. Paul with violent demonstrations, and this will serve to turn off most Republican voters and kill his chances in New Hampshire. Game set match.

Here is the link:

It's an obvious trap, and all of you are walking right into it.

Very possible

I think it is very possible they will do this.

Good Point

We probably shouldn't have a demonstration because they could put "plants" in there who would be violent. Then Glenn Beck could go on and on about how violent we are. And then the Senate would quickly pass S 1959.

Fox is trying to bait us into ATTACK mode.

I was angry too, but then I calmed down and did the research.

Guess what....he is only excluded from Fox's lame little forum, the next day.

Both parties debates are being hosted by ABC on Jan 5th, 2008. Ron Paul has already accepted his invite.

http://www.freerepublic.c...

"They join fellow Republicans John McCain, Mike Huckabee, Ron Paul, Duncan Hunter and Fred Thompson in officially agreeing to the debates scheduled for Jan. 5 at St. Anselm College. The forums begin at 7 p.m."

So no major problem...unless we CREATE one ourselves....and that's just what THEY want us to do.

Don't let them win. :)
Oh, and still make em (Fox) pay, (email, call, picket) ect. lol

But don't get stupid people....that's their game. :)
We win by being smarter.

I agree: Do Nothing

Listen, our tactics of swarming the media with phone calls and emails have worked very well in the past, but they are becoming too predictable. Fox News knows that we will try to do something to their forum. In fact, I believe that they want us to. It will draw attention to their pointless forum, and create controversy that they can spin against Ron Paul.

We need to change our tactics this time. We have a huge group of Americans who believe in freedom and the message of Ron Paul. Let's not waste our energy on Fox News, but let's get the word out through other means. CNN seems open to cover Ron Paul fairly (or least they are more open to), so let's work with them. I agree wholeheartedly with the town hall concept (I proposed it in my original post). Instead of acknowledging their forum, we should completely ignore it and turn the eyes of America toward Ron Paul.

Think about it. If Ron Paul wins Iowa, or even places in the top three (fairly likely), people will be curious to hear more about him. They have been inundated (force fed?) with news about the other candidates and their positions. They are sick and tired of the lot of them. But here comes along a fresh face with apparently strong support. Will they want to watch an old and tired forum with the same old group, or will they watch a town hall with serious questions and answers revealing who this Ron Paul guy actually is?

I do not think it would be bad to talk about what Fox News has done with everyone we know, but I think it will make Fox News that much more paranoid if we suddenly became silent towards them. We have used our strong voices before in protest. Perhaps it is time to use our deafening silence.

False Advertisement

This may be way off base, but don't we have laws on the books regarding false advertising? Wouldn't "Fair and Balanced" be untrue? They use this as their advertising slogan; could this be used as a basis for a lawsuit? I agree that they have the right to air what they choose but they don't have the right to lie. Either way, it doesn't make sense for now to focus on anything other than the primaries and working to stop bad legislation. Cheers!

unfortunately, they do have a right to "lie"

yup, the courts have held that news orgs like Fox have no obligation to tell the truth!

this actually came up in a court case where 2 Fox reporters were trying to report the truth about an issue (i think it was about hormones in cows/ milk?). they were fired, filed suit against Fox, and lost. (you can google it for more info)

How about do NOTHING

Until the campaign asks for something specific on this. Every action you take reflects on Paul. People cheer every time we get a new supporter. New support is good, but you need to realize how many never would support him responses some of these tactics make.

The best idea is economic leverage, and a large peaceful rally outside to point out our large support and exclusion. I'm not convinced one more debate/forum whatever will matter.

Besides if Paul does well in Iowa they would add him or just look dumb.

One more Forum could matter

"I'm not convinced one more debate/forum whatever will matter."

Well, to people like my mother, who don't pay attention to the candidates until just before the primary it just may matter a lot. And if Ron Paul is not in the forum, my mother will think that he is not a legitimate candidate.

Sure, to all of us, who have seen Dr. Paul in many debates, this is no big deal. But most of the voters are not like us! Most voters are not political activitists!

There is nothing wrong with politely expressing our disappointment with Fox's decision.
