Ron Paul Blimp To Reach 70,000 Voters At Capital One Bowl
Monday, December 31, 2007 9:41:20 PM
The Capitol One Bowl Tuesday was set to pit Florida against Michigan.
Besides their teams in the big game, the two states have one other thing in common: both are holding presidential primaries in January.
At least one candidate has taken advantage of having all those voters in one place.
The Ron Paul campaign planned to put a blimp up over the Citrus Bowl Tuesday before the game, so more than 70,000 fans attending the Capital One Bowl would be able to see it pass by the arena.
"It's a way to get around the fact that we don't get a lot of mainstream media coverage for our candidate, and being a grassroots kind of campaign and organization, we have to be extra creative," said Jessica Diehl, co-chair of the Ron Paul campaign in Orange County.

Consider putting in some money into this project. Even $5 is great. But do not wait for someone else to pull it off. We need another 17000 today or the blimp will be history.
There is no doubt in my mind that the blimp will be great news around the january primaries. But only if it can stay in the air.
An excerpt:
"Campaign officials seem happy to let their young supporters self-organize, as they largely did with the Christmas Break event. Similarly, students spoke with particular pride about the Ron Paul blimp. Yes, it is the first blimp for a presidential candidate and it is probably orbiting around New Hampshire right now. Supporters quickly raised $400,000 on the internet to make it possible. As the blimp project is being described, another student walks by and enthusiastically says, "the internet is totally libertarian."
That's a FAR CRY from just a few hours ago when we needed probably 400-500 people @ $100!
C'mon folks, we are soooooooooooooooooo close!
70,000+ people will see the Blimp at the Citrus Bowl in Florida! These are some BIG events with GREAT onsite and broadcast coverage. Let's not miss out!
Ok I'm in today. I was going to donate this to the campaign but I agree with what someone else said in another post. The campaign will not sink if it doesn't make it's 20 million mark (although it would be terrific!) but the blimp will definitely NOT fly if it doesn't get their money.
including the local college papers, and the local network TV news outlets.
The big, national media will no longer be interested. But all of these local media are looking for human interest stories. The Liberty PR folk need to be phoning, for example,
Orlando Central Florida Advocate (A) (C)
Orlando Orlando Business Journal (A) (C)
Orlando Orlando Sentinel (A) (C)
Orlando Orlando Times (A) (C)
Orlando Orlando Weekly (A) (C)
and getting reporters from each newspaper to cover this.
Then they need to be making .pdf files of all of these local stories, and putting them on their website.
So when January 18th rolls around, they'll be able to make a strong case to make that they are more than just another floating billboard.
Lots of growing pains, but I think that in the next two weeks, the blimp folk will really prove their mettle. Lots of bowl games and large gatherings of people in Florida - a key state.
Only 20,000 and change to go.
Now the website has current totals raised as well as a "thermometer".
We have to get them funded, as well as some key grass roots projects as well.
J Black's TV ads for NH need only 50,000 but they have just got 5,000 as of now. The DVD people have raised only 1000 dollars. The official campaign has already raised 300,000 dollars today for plans that have not been made yet.
This is so exciting!! The blimp is stationed next to my hometown. I asked my mom to go take a picture of it for me, but she compained she was busy. I told her she was missing out.
everyone to consider donating to operation NH TV ads for nevada after we have funded the blimp. http://www.operationnh.co.... They are at 10% of the funds they need for airing ads in Nevada. For those who have not seen the ads, have a look at them and decide for yourself if they need to get on air or not.
I think the official campaign can wait for a week or two. These grassroot efforts are up and running and funding them will really help us in the january primaries.
I didn't pledge in the beginning, but I've now donated 3 times to this worthy cause. I've seen great results from it even though it didn't go exactly as planned. Let's keep this thing in the air at least through the first few primaries!
I donated $10 yesterday and $25 today. Then I donated $25 to RP on Saturday and I will most likely donate again today. I don't have the money to do this, but we all won't have any if we don't get him in office.
Do you know what a full page ad would run in this city right now for this day? How about local TV coverage? And who would be AT HOME watching or reading them?! NO ONE!
This is why the Blimp is so key. It's sheer novelty and uniqueness will appeal to a wide range of folks and people associate a "blimp" naturally with sporting events anyway (thanks, Goodyear!), so a PERFECT venue for folks to catch a site of the Ron Paul Blimp!
Hey you people who watch football. Watch the commentary and see if the blimp gets mention. I would do it myself but that means I would have to watch football. :)

At this time I feel I will get more bang for my buck by supporting the grassroot efforts rather than the official HQ.
The reasons is:
There are several grassroot publicity campaigns already running and they can make use of my money today! They are established. and of excellent quality.
If they make use of that money today, that will realistically increase the chance of winning the january primaries. If we win one of them, that would multiply the value of the HQ money several fold. So if we really want to help the official campaign we must feed the grassroots now!
We're LESS than $10,000 away from the goal!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
*little nicky voice* We can do this!!!!!!!!

Thanks, that was "me" :-)
The $20M is not "do or die" but the blimp IS!
Blimp that ride!
It is good to see someone using reason to decide.
Click on the banners on this page for grassroot efforts and see what they have raised. They need some help.
I have no idea why reaching 20 million is more important than keeping these grassroots efforts going.
10 more headed that
10 more headed that way!
Full force on all RP outlets to grab more supporters!
Put the "it's a bad idea" behind you and don't buy starbucks for a few days and finish the 19K that's left to go!

Nice story in the Houston Chronicle:

I think there's a lot of learning curve here. The warm weather and Florida and bowl games is all good.
I also want to see them get a lot better at contacting the local Florida newspapers, here:

including the local college papers, and the local network TV news outlets.

someone bought a lot of flying time
about 23,000 to go.
It is great to see people doing what makes sense.

Yes, I put in a few more bucks.
I personally feel keeping the blimp flying is more important than getting an arbitrary round figure of $20 million for Dr. Paul. IMHO, of course.
Another $25 to freedom!!
