A Poll Worth Examining
A nationwide poll conducted last week by www.grassfire.net of 39,000 conservative activists amongst a registered network of over 1,000,000 members netted some surprising and very positive results.
Thompson - 28%
Romney - 14%
Paul - 13%
Huckabee - 7%
Looking at these results, you can see clearly that Ron Paul has traction and when we consider these are conservatives, and that Ron is probably equally or more likely to be supported by moderates and independent minded Republicans, it's not unreasonable to estimate his actual support as being in the 15% to 20% range.
When you couple this with the lack of knowledge for Fred Thompson's positions, there is much room for optimism about where the campaign will go from here.

3 Positive Ways to Read This
We need to look at the 3 positive ways to read this:
1) Ron Paul is legit. All of this talk in the GOP and neocon MSM to bash him, say "He's out," is all hogwash to the American conservative voter. The GOP needs to wake up or smell the 2008 losses as Ron pointed out at the NH debate.
2) The American conservative IS NOT SATISFIED with the GOP candidates. If they don't love Ron Paul, they are voting for someone who just entered the race. For the GOP, this is pathetic. For the Ron Paul campaign, this is great news, and shows that due to the dissatisfaction in the GOP, he stands a great chance at waking up the American conservative to what the neocons have pulled on them.
3) The top tier of GOP candidates, based on the conservative voter, is a newly-entered candidate, Ron Paul, and the plastic puppet Guy Smiley look alike. The MSM's supposed up-and-coming cnadidate, Huckleberry, is clearly not what the voters want, and JulieAnnie is slowly whithering away due to lack of substance and ideas (besides the ID card. Gee, thanks Rudy).
Keep your heads up revolutionaries. We are on the march!!!

This is interesting but not satisfying. Flubber Thompson's lead suggests to me that the conservatives are a bunch of dimwits who think they are voting for Arthur Branch, Manhattan D.A. and not the sleazy lobbiest, Aristide supporter and Senatorial flip-flopper. The worst attribute, however, is his CFR affiliation.
Romney is not much better (though, to be fair, he apparently was a good governor of Massachusetts). He is also CFR.
It is the CFR (a secret, elitist organization) we have to thank for GATT, NAFDA, WTO, the United Nations, and the likely North American Union. This insidious organization must be shown in the full light of day and its members discredited as candidates. This includes ALL of the candidates, of both parties, with four exceptions: Mike Huckabee, Mike Gravel, Dennis Kuchinich and our favorite guy, Ron Paul.
This is a drum I am going to be beating for the next year. Care to join me?
Facts on Fred
I will be launching Operation Facts on Fred soon. It will be an effort to compile all data on Thompson disproving his positioning as a Conservative. I hope you will participate. Keep in touch with this project via http://www.RonPaulRadio.U...

What People Will Understand
The problem you will run into is that people will have no clue what you are talking about when it comes to the CFR, and you probably don't have the time to educate them about all the things they would need to know to understand that reference. My guess is that the most effective strategy against Fred is to see just what causes he did support as a trial lawyer, and I guarantee you social conservatives, who are really up for grabs, will have some serious questions.
More interesting stuff from this poll
First, I read some of the stuff they find important. This includes censoring of the internet and fighting against anti-war movements and politicians. They are basically a neo-conservative web site that (probably) attracts neoconservatives. So, it's interesting to me to see this bit in the results:
"Support for “staying the course†in Iraq dropped from 67% in May to 58% in August, while the percentage of conservatives calling for withdrawal rose from 16 to 22%."
I wonder just how that happened? :)
Too True
Those are interesting. I don't think we'll ever win over the neo-cons as a group. But, I think once we help people realize what neo-cons believe, you're going to see people drift away from that ideology, and the non-interventionist message will get stronger not just in this election, but with this entire generation.
Unless....
... some "Iranians" hijack a plane and fly it into the Sears Tower (causing an almost instantaneous, symmetrical, free-fall collapse into its own footprint). Then, those same people will be so scared, hyped and propagandized that they'll rush right back to the war-mongering neocon mindset. It's an incredibly repetitive (and therefore predictable) pattern that rarely seems to vary.... :-(
I would want a war in this case as well...
However, I think we would see a larger call to declare the war against Iran, if they actually attacked us. Unless, "Iranians" in your example are like the "Iraqis" that committed the 9/11 attacks. In that case I agree and there would be no convincing the fools who buy into the propoganda.
And please note...
Iranians have ALL repeatedly-seen videotape of US Navy sailors celebrating on the Vincennes before they knew they'd shot down a civilian Airbus jet by accident. The Iran government has said that it wasn't an accident, but regardless of what government you believe or live-under, it's stressful to all sides.
