The End of America

I need your help... My younger brother, just 39, finally has turned to "politics". During Christmas vacation he asked me, "what are the top 10 books you would recommend for someone like me?"
(High school grad, never into politics, family man, loves sports, hard worker). I also realized he probably has never read 10 books since graduating from high school.... and I also realized the rare opportunity he had given me, so... I recommended to him this book, THE END OF AMERICA by Naomi Wolf (only 150 pages, & I feel it should be required reading for every Ron Paul Patriot out there)...

http://www.amazon.com/gp/...

So, please give me your list of 9 books for a new Ron Paul Patriot and its Amazon link.

Thanks,

Treg

must reads

1:Gulag Archipelago is a must!!!! One of the most important books of all time I think. Have to read ALL THREE BOOKS, not the abridged version.. Amazon has the complete set but you have to hunt for it.

2: Brave New World Revisited by A. Huxley ( the people will lay their freedom at the feet of their new masters and say "FEED US!!" )

3: The Monster From Jekyl Island ( about the fed ).

4: Whatever Happened to Penny Candy/Justice etc....great series, easy to read too.
I don't mean to speak ill of the departed, but a few of my friends and I found Anthony Russo ( Freedom to Fascism ) EXTREMELY annoying. He comes off like Tony Soprano complaining about his taxes. There are other documentaries about the IRS, Fed etc that seem a bit more scholarly. Just my 2 cents. Keep up the fight!! G

It's the Creature From Jekyll Island, not the monster

New Books For New Patriots

Blackstone's Commentaries on the Laws of England;
(outlines the transcendent standards of the Common Law rooted in Divine Revelation - a direct refutation of the classical liberalism of Enlightenment Rationalists that form part of the foundation of modern liberalism.);
By RJ Rushdooney:
Politics of Guilt and Pity (Psychodynamics of Marxist ideology);
Institutes of Biblical Law (how the Bible influenced early legal thinkers);
AJ Languith The Patriots (History/ biography of American Revolution)
AA Hodge Outlines of Theology (especially important to understand how the theology of materialism and Deism effect other areas of life)
NT Wright: The Resurrection of the Son of God (for understanding how early Christians turned the world upside down with a very simple message - Jesus of Nazareth is Lord, and Caesar is NOT - this is the basis of Anglo-American common law, understand this and use it well, and you will restore freedom)

Freakanomics

Good read, open your mind and question everything.

that was a great read

loved the name section!

also, thomas friedman...the world is flat.....good one too.

I have two books to

I have two books to recommend.

They don't seem very "revolutionary" on the surface, but I think they may be the most important books you could read right now. Possibly more important than reading Dr. Paul's new book. Their message really is that important right now.

I'm sure you can find them both collecting dust at your local library.

They are both short and can be consumed in under an hour each

They are both by a guy named Richard Bach.

Read:

Jonathan Livingston Seagull

and

Illusions: The Adventures of a Reluctant Messiah

Really, I'm giving you all a book list, read it.

Love

Fun, uplifting reads

The 'reluctant messiah' moniker is one I think of often when I consider Dr. Paul's public service.

Animal Farm and 1984

Animal Farm and 1984 -Orwell
Breakfast of Champions-Vonagat
Obviously anything by Ron Paul

Currently Reading...

I'm currently reading:

Armed Madhouse, by Greg Palast
The Shock Doctrine, by Naomi Klein
The End of America, by Naomi Wolf
Confessions of an Economic Hitman, by John Perkins

Also in my library are:

Blowback
Blackwater
The Creature from Jekyll Island (which I cannot recommend enough)
Shadows of Power (another excellent book)

Documentaries worth noting:

Iraq for Sale
Beyond Treason
Life and Debt
Freedom to Fascism
Monopoly Men
Conspiracy of Silence

That ought to wake anybody up from their sleep!

Killing hope

It is not an easy read but if he wants to know about our foreign policy, this is a good one. I have read most of it and it is eye opening how much we have thrown our weight around the world for many years. Killing Hope- William blum

... the media system is nothing but a "subsidiary of corporate America."

the rest of the 9 books

# 7 - Charlie Wilson's War - George Crile. By arming the mujahideen, we created the taliban and financed the very people we are now waging a "war" against. the movie glosses over much of the meat of this true story. it also provides an up close view into the congress or better known as the ultimate "boy's" club.

# 8 - Confessions of an Economic Hit Man - John Perkins.

# 9 - Sleeping with the Devil: How Washington Sold Our Soul for Saudi Crude by Robert Baer [former CIA operative].

# 4. Secrets of the Temple: How The Federal Reserve Runs The Country - William Greider.

the first books to read

Hi Treg --

Great news! Hooray for your brother to commence his awakening. Nearly everyone of these books can be checked out a library, thus "saving" $$$ from "peter" in order to give more $$.08 to Paul, IMHO [smile]. I have included as many on line resources as possible. In addition, I will list the documentaries right after the 9 [nine] books.

The first book/document:

# 1. Declaration of Independence, the Constitution and the Bill of Rights.

http://www.legitgov.org/p... [on line access]

LEARN and MEMORIZE YOUR CONSTITUTION IF YOU WANT THE REPUBLIC TO SURVIVE. Also, John Nichols, "The Genius of Impeachment." Nichols most recent book argues that impeachment is an essential instrument of America's democratic system. Nichols' argument also bases the power of impeachment in the hands of the people, rather than the congress. In his recent article, "In Praise of Impeachment," Nichols argues "While the Constitution handed Congress the power to officially check such despotism, Jefferson and his colleagues fully expected the American people to be the champions of the application of the rule of law to an errant executive."Watch it on PBS

If you are LDS ...

If you are LDS, then I HIGHLY, HIGHLY recommend getting the book "Awakening to our Awful Situation" by Jack Monnett.

http://www.amazon.com/Awa...

Heck, I'd recommend that book to non-LDS people as well ....

Another 'Must See' video...

"The Future of Food"
If every American comprehended what's in this video, there would be an armed rebellion. This video is essential 'citizenship 101'.

Anything by

Sherman Skolnick (check out "Is Mark Rich rich?)
"Big Jim" Tucker
G. Edward Griffin
Micheal Collins Piper
General Smedley Butler
Reverend Hyslop "The Two Babylons"

Last days of American Republic

"Nemesis: Last Days of the American Republic" author Chalmers Johnson;

and "Blowback" which was written before 9:11.

Became a best seller after the attack. These are current books about current events.

The End of Faith

Is another great iconoclastic read. I don't agree with everything that Harris has to say, but he does a good job of articulating the dangerously low demand for evidence among the majority of people in the US.

I also think it is important to have a strong sense of the broader context from which we've arrived at our current situations. A Brief History of Nearly Everything by Bill Bryson is a fascinating read. Also, both of the major works by Jared Diamond, Guns, Germs, and Steel, and Collapse, will vastly improve one's understanding of the world.

Rudy's Reading List is another good list of books.

Two easy reads

Both less than 100 pages and very easy to comprehend:

"The Law" by Frederic Bastiat
"The Case Against the Fed" by Murray Rothbard

Videos

There is a great course on the Constitution posted on google. 11 hours worth

Two books

Pat Buchanan's "Day of Reckoning"
James Perloff's "Shadows of Power"

get him some dvds instead.

get him some dvds instead. freedom to facism, exct.

Best thread ever

This was very informative. I wrote everything down!!

Unintended Consequences by John Ross

Unintended Consequences by John Ross

Great Book Suggestions, but...

How about a great video: Freedom to Fascism
and I forgot the name of the other documentry that is like 3 hours long. Someone help me out on that one.

money masters

is also 3 hours and pretty darn good

the only 3 hour documenatry that i know of is The Corporation.

hope this helps!

go ron paul! happy days will soon be here!

Ayn Rand

Atlas Shrugged

Give him a pocket

Give him a pocket Constitution and Declaration of Independence combo. Its short and hits the fundamentals.

Late Great USA - Corsi
Creature From Jekyll Island - Griffin
Either of the Perkins books mentioned earlier are a good supplement to Jekyll, I would suggest "Confessions" first though its not too important
"Origins of the Bill of Rights" is a little academic but good, in the same vain as the "Biography of the Constitution" someone mentioned above

Atlas Shrugged

changed my life, then 1984.

Happy New Year,

Power to the PEOPLE

Hands down the first book to read is "The Citizens Rule Book"

www.whttenprinters.com or www.citizensbook.com

Learn why you NEED to serve on a jury!!!!

Perhaps some-one with better typing skills could copy pages 4 and 5 here?

Lot's of great books to read on liberty but...

The Bible is a great read for every new Cong. Paul supporter! Think about these verses:

"Where the Spirit of the Lord is there is liberty" II Cor 3:17

"...proclaim liberty throughout al the land unto all the inhabitants thereof..." Leviticus 25:10 (This is written on the Liberty Bell)

The passage in I Samuel 9 - the Lord's answer through Samuel in re what will happen if they get the king they ask for. Strong libertarian message.

"Stand fast in the liberty wherewith Christ hath made us free..." Galatians 5:1

Now some might argue that this is spiritual freedom/liberty and I agree but there is great respect for the dignity of the individual throughout the Bible and many greater men than I have cited Biblical principles as having great weight in the establishment of our constitutional Republic. To receive Christ brings freedom and and I encourage him (or the reader of this post) to look into that if he has not done so.
