Debate Criteria - ABC and FOX

According to this DiStaso article from the Union Leader, ABC is also considering cutting off candidates who don't meet at least one of these criteria:

- Place in the top four in the Iowa caucuses, which will be held on Thursday.

- Poll 5 percent or higher in one of the last four reputable random sample New Hampshire telephone surveys sponsored by an established news organization and conducted and released by 9 a.m. on Friday, Jan. 4. (Ron is polling 9% here)

- Poll 5 percent or higher in one of the last four reputable random sample national telephone surveys sponsored by an established news organization and conducted and released on or before 9 a.m. on Jan. 4.

Cullen is clearly angry about the exclusions. He says “Limiting the number of candidates who are invited to participate in debates is not consistent with the tradition of the first-in-the-nation primary,” he said. “The level playing field requires that all serious candidates be given an equal opportunity to participate — not just a selected few determined by the media prior to any votes being cast.”

Illegal campaign contribution

Media providers which offer non-news/story based forums, debates, bios, and exposes are giving in kind campaign contributions to those they offer these opportunities to the extent they exclude other candidates.

Someday, this legal argument will prevail.

Question:

What do these candidates do with the lion's share of their campaign contributions?

Answer:

They buy media complete with the information contained in these treatments.

These affiliates are contributing to some candidates this resource.

If it walks like a duck....

you are 100% correct!

This is important, and it is yet another reason an increasing number of us don't legitimize these entities by referring to them as "mainstream". They don't deserve that label.

Get active NOW to put Ron in the general election. ronpaul.meetup.com

Reminder for Fox News

Jimmy Carter was at 1% in the polls back then and he went on to become President. So why do they put so much stock in thier bogus polls? It goes against everything America stands for, blocking Ron Paul out of debates. They claim they don't have enough room, lol do the debate at another location.

Media is out of line

Freedom of the press? What does that mean when the media themselves censor political debate? We, America, are in a real mess.

Are you part of the r3VOLution???

Prove it to me... Phone blitz is now on...

http://www.ronpaulforums....

I'm sure their phone techs

I'm sure their phone techs have already issued new backup DID numbers and will switch them over as soon as business is interrupted. I wish it wasn't so and that FOX gets what is coming to them.

Fox News,Idiots

How stupid are they at Fox ?? I live in Houston Texas and I can tell you Ron Paul has a lot of upset supporters here.Blowing off Ron Paul is just going to fuel more support for him.So keep up the good work Fox,they are in for a lesson in politics.

act of desperation

this is an act of desperation by the establishment, Ron IS a threat to them, if he really was a crackpot they would give him all kinds of time to dig himself a hole.

Candidate forum and debates

All of the networks get their broadcast licences from the FCC. No licence - no broadcasts. I think there is a public trust issue and if the networks are not serving the public trust by censoring what they deem as unimportant, can we protest and prevent the renewal of their licence? Can we file for an injunction to prevent biased coverage?

Have you ever heard the

Have you ever heard the phrase "FOX running the henhouse"?

It Comes Down to Iowa

If the RPR does well in Iowa and then New Hampshire, doing 3 or better, the tables will be turned on Fox and ABC.

With this outcome the polling industry's methodology will be shown to be a failure going into an election year. This will have significant repercussions favorable to the RPR.

Iowa RPR, this battle with the media AND the polling industry is in your hands. Your efforts can make history.

All your hard work and dedicaiton is appreciated.

1948 Truman - Dewey

Someone should remind Fox and ABC and all the American people of the 1948 declaration by the Chicago Tribune that Dewey had won the presidential vote, but it was actually Truman that had won. The Tribune went to press based on polls and didn't wait for the vote count.

Doesn't matter

By these criteria they are more likely to exclude Giuliani or Thompson. Ron Paul will win Iowa or place second so I am not worried. Maybe we should get these stipulations and provisos in writing from ABC/FOX before the caucus so we can hold them to it. If Giuliani comes in 5th I doubt they will exclude him.

How Can You Trust ANY Poll?

If you're going to make any criteria, why not wait until after Feb 4, then base it on actual votes? What is the GD rush? If we don't defend this for the sake of the Mike Gravels and Duncan Hunters of this race, how can we defend it for Ron Paul, or, in the future, the next standard bearer of limited government and freedom?

Don't exclude the candidates!

I agree. Duncan Hunter, Mike Gravel and Dennis Kucinich, should all be included in the debates.

If the networks don't think there is enough time, then add 30 minutes onto the debates. Problem solved. And while they're doing that, they could start giving the same amount of time to each of the candidates.

I'm sick and tired of the media acting like they are the "deciders" of who we should elect as President of our own damn country.

Diana

I see no problem there. Ron Paul is certain to be admitted into the ABC debate with these criteria.

I know...

But it's interesting because, if they use the double digits argument for the FOX debate, does this mean RUDY would be out? He's only 6% in Iowa.

When Pat Buchanan WON NH, the margin of error was 21%. He went into the primary with 6% and came up with 27% A lot of those people were disaffected republicans, independents and libertarians and some democrats so this made sense they would not be picked up. And a lot just would not answer their phones because the media bashed poor Pat so much, they did not want to let on they were supporting him. But they did come out and vote, and consequently Pat beat Bob Dole.

I could be wrong, but I

I could be wrong, but I think the double digit poll floor that Fox is using refers to a national poll so Rudy would be included but not Ron.

The article says that ONE of

The article says that ONE of the criteria have to be met. Ron has done that.

Debate - Forum confusion

One ONE of the criteria requirement is for the ABC debate on January 5th. Fox News has not publicly stated what their criteria for the January 6th forum is.

and it does not say (or at

and it does not say (or at least it didn't) that it had to be a national poll..it said a NH poll..
