The Neighbor to Neighbor Campaign

I started writing letters to people in New Hampshire, but then I thought of something.. The names/addresses from the Huffington Post are for people who have donated money to a campaign. If they donated to a democrat, they are likely registered as a democrat and will not be able to vote in the republican primary. If they donated to a republican, they are likely pro-war as all the republicans besides Ron Paul are pro-war. I guess I'm wondering if I'm wasting my time sending letters to people from this list..

This thread is getting quite a bit of looks, so I thot I'd throw in an effective tool I have been using. My wife and I will go to various newspaper boxes and pay the .50 cents (.75 for USAToday) to get access to the stack of newspapers there. We will stick a slim jim info card into each paper, while holding the door open, then neatly set the stack back in and close the door.

We have gotten a couple of odd looks, but no one has stopped us.

We stuck some in the boxes outside our favorite breakfast cafe yesterday before we went in for breakfast. As we sat eating and having our coffee, we noticed several folks getting the slim jim flyer out and reading it. My wife heard on older couple say, "Here is that guy we saw on the debate". That put a smile on both of our faces!

Don't forget to keep the Tax On Tips letter going too! Our waitress's at a couple of places we frequent now refer to us as "those Ron Paul people". We ALWAYS have our RP buttons on too!

Can someone make a current version of this letter? I fail miserably at writing and want to include more recent info like the current number of campaign volunteers, the most recent poll results, etc. Also, I think point number 8 needs to be clarified to say "Ron Paul served in the Air Force during the Vietnam war" just so it's not misleading.

My Dear Neighbor,

I, __________, have written you this letter from my own heart. I do not want sell you anything. I am doing this totally on my own. And No, I am not from any organization.

Question: If Thomas Jefferson were alive today, could he get elected President? Would big corporate media dismiss him because of his hair, his long speeches? What if there really was a Thomas Jefferson out there actually RUNNING for President? Would we know it? Would Big Media even allow a real Constitutionalist into the final debates?

So, Yes I am “bucking the system”. I am talking to you neighbor to neighbor. With this letter, I am hoping to get around the Big Media Corporate machine that runs politics these days. You know what I mean. There is only 90 days till the primaries, so let me tell you about my choice for President.

His name is Dr. Ron Paul, a baby doctor and 10-term Republican Congressmen from Texas. No, he is not a pro-war, big government, Bush Republican! Sadly you don’t get to hear much about him since the big corporate media will not shut up about Hillary and Rudy Giuliani. Big media, wants you and I, to “choose” between one New York liberal (pretending to be Conservative), and another New York liberal (pretending to be Conservative). That is not a “choice”! That’s not democracy, that’s more of the same!

Look, I am 46, and I love my country. I want to see real CHANGE, real ACTION. It’s simply unforgivable that Bin Laden has not been caught. The 2006 Democrats in Congress are rubber-stamping Bush’s failed policies. Furthermore, Hillary has voted for the war (twice) and even supports economic & military actions on Iran! Then she says she would ‘redeploy’ few troops out of Iraq, moving them here or there--whatever! That’s not a real change in America’s foreign policy, that’s double talk.

On the Republican side big media is giving us either, Giuliani-McCain-Thompson-Romney who say they like everything Bush is doing and HAS DONE. Good Gawd!

Do you agree with me? This country needs to totally change its foreign policies. We need a better way to fight terrorism. Do you agree? Attacking Iraq, threatening to attack Iran, is just horribly expensive bullying, and its wrong! It has nothing to do with catching Bin Laden in Pakistan. Come on people, this behavior causes more hatred towards Americans, and soon more terrorism. President Eisenhower warned us about the Military Industrial Congressional Complex and needless wars. With this letter, let us put a stop to it.

Here are 10 reasons to vote for Ron Paul in the Republican primaries—yes even if you are a Democrat.

1) Ron Paul is honest. He has a Congressional voting record that is clearly in line with the Constitution, FOR a smaller federal government, FOR State Rights, FOR civil rights, FOR equality before the law, FOR individual property Rights, FOR the first amendment & the 2nd amendment, and FOR ALL the Bill of Rights.

2) Ron Paul votes against big business corporate welfare, government spending, tax increases, and most importantly, he voted against Bush’s Iraq war of preemptive war. Just like the Constitution, Ron Paul is 100% against a foreign policy of interventionism that keeps getting we Americans involved in unnecessary wars.

3) Ron Paul’s voting record is for small federal government, like Jefferson intended.

4) Ron Paul votes for peace, non-intervention, and free trade, like Washington intended.

5) Ron Paul voted against Bush’s Iraq War, Military Commission Act, Patriot Act, the national Id, why? Because sacrificing liberty for security is always wrong.

6) Ron Paul is a baby doctor by trade and has delivered over 4000 babies and has been married to the same woman for over 50 years.

7) Ron Paul is a veteran of the Vietnam War, served 5 years. He is a “small government is best” Republican, like Barry Goldwater and Ronald Reagan, and is, “a champion of the Constitution”.

9) Ron Paul is for protecting your security, protecting our borders, and a strong national defense HERE AT HOME, all without you giving our precious rights and civil liberties.

How many of us "know our neighbors?" Yup, we live in different days, don't we?

Fortunately I have a very active neighborhood where we have a local community center, hold Bar-B-Q's still and an occasional pool party at rotating homes. Not a "rich" neighborhood by any means, but many of us come from smaller towns (as opposed to Dallas, where we now live) and want to make at least our part of Dallas a little "smaller" and more "friendly" to those who live there and those who might move in.

The real commentary here is "get to know your neighbors." Far beyond the political benefits, there are the many social benefits as well. I loved the letter put forth on here and will have no problem hand-carrying it to the doors of three streets adjacent to where I live. I don't know "everyone" on these blocks, but hopefully by the end of this effort I will, and already have a good start :-)

When I was growing up, we had things like block parties, and tupperware parties, and families car pooled their kids to things like drive-in movies. While there may be Soccer Moms driving kids to events, for the most part, it is my observation that most people don't know their naighbors and don't want to know their neighbors. Some neighborhoods I have moved to since growing out of my parents house have Christian groups going door to door. I don't turn them away, and they have told me horror story to horror story about what MY neighbors did to them, which includes pulling out a shot gun and pointing it at them. many people buy NO SOLICITATION signs and post them on the front door. While I'm not wanting to argue if this is good or bad, I am going to point out, that your idea, well meaning, is not going to be very successful.

Let me tell you what is working for me. Most communities have events, such as mine, where we have Town hall Meetings, or events where an issue is being presented by a panel of "experts", and the community has the opportunity to discuss the issue.

Last night our Town Hall had a forum on Healthcare. Since Michael Moore's movie, "Sicko", which was played in our small theatre with a table for those wanting H.R. 676 (conyers) SB 480 (Kuehl) CA (basically the same), collected signatures and has been working on educating the community on this issue for months now, this was the focal point last night, to continue to sell this bill.

So I put on my Ron Paul tee shirt I got from my visit to the Eureka Meetup and I armed myself with all NINE H.R.s on the floor, Dr. Paul's script from LewRockwell.com he made at congress, studied the other bills, took notes and went to the Town Hall meeting with an ink pen. I scanned the table for any literature I had not seen, and took a seat. I listened and made notes. I made myself very visable about what I agreed that was said, after all, we all agree "America is sick", but what we don't agree is the solution.

When it was time for questions and answers, I took my turn, asking the panel questions, like, "There are nine healthcare bills. Aren't ALL of them called Universal Healthcare?" In otherwords, I was more informative to the audience than the panel, who focused on ONE resolution. And then I asked questions that I knew were important to my community but being overlooked or omitted by the panel. I recieved several rounds of applause, and the organizers were visablly shaken...I ended my SHORT time saying, "I believe we agree on the problem we are facing, but as a community we need to look at how better to protect ourselves. We all agree, America has a sick healthcare program, but I believe we need a doctor in the house."

Several of the organizers came to my seat and tried to engage me, but I held fast. The panel reacted to my message repeatedly, and spoke about what I had said, and in a positive way because I spoke the truth. I did not mention Ron Paul because that was the job of my tee shirt.

In the end, I was told, "You stole the show". And I guess I did because the meeting did not end as they had planned. It ended with the room divided on H.R. 676.

I reached 200 neighbors last night, and today, I bet they are still talking about last night, and Googling Ron Paul.
