US Senator Sununu (R-NH) on Forum Exclusion in NH

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: 1/2/08
SUNUNU STATEMENT ON UPCOMING NEW HAMPSHIRE PRESIDENTIAL PRIMARY DEBATES

WASHINGTON, DC – United States Senator John Sununu (R-NH) today (1/2) issued the following statement regarding the organization of upcoming debates in New Hampshire prior to the January 8th Presidential Primary.

“Through the years, New Hampshire presidential primary debates have provided the opportunity for voters to hear from all the major candidates. Unfortunately, ABC and FOX are using unusual participation criteria to limit who will appear on debate stages this weekend. That may serve them well, but does little to serve the electorate. Our first in the nation presidential primary has historically given Democrats and Republicans a fair shot at a free and open debate – a tradition that should continue.”

massholes.... LOL ;-)

I was in your wonderful state ( and MA) this last summer for work. I loved it, beautiful land and really nice people. I don't think I'll ever see as many kayak roof racks on cars ever again. Anecdotally, folks in NH were alot more friendly than those of it's southern neighbor... could it be because they are free? ;-) Good humor intended.

Here in Arizona we have the same dynamic with Californians and folks from Illinois moving here. Ahhh , the nostalgia for the good old big government days... Barry Goldwater would hardly recognize the place.

to clarify

I did not mean to imply that everyone coming across the NH border is a Masshole...there are jerks coming in from CT, NY, and other places too. There are also good people coming in to the state. I welcome anyone who wants to move to NH and live the NH way (the same way I welcome all immigrants to the USA who want to come here and live the American way).
I hear that the Freestate Project attracts many good people.

Mud on their face

FOX will only have mud on it's face. I can't see us doing worse than 4th or better in Iowa. I say let the local NBC channel interview the doctor while the "forum" is running.

Sununu Just Saved Himself for 2008: Act big on several levels

My group Veterans Abroad is garnering a big war chest and was preparing to swiftboat Sununu and Coleman for being RINOs who would not listen to male veterans on the subject of men's rights vs the NOW lobbying juggernaut.

But this major act, a US Senator practically endorsing Ron Paul (but not yet really doing so), could get him granted a big reprieve.

The US Senate is a den of thieves, but now we have the first US Senator publicly defending Ron Paul.

If Sununu starts to emulate Ron Paul, others will follow and our government may start to change for the better from the inside (while RP supporters run for Congress in 2008 and 2010 and 2012 from the outside).

Uh so..

who would you rather endorse? Big government spender and liberal Shaheen whose husband just got bounced from the Hillary campaign because of some scandal? She was our governor and she nearly destroyed NH. NO THANKS. I'll take Sununu any day.
By 'swiftboating' JS, you are only going to make things a lot worse by allowing his opponent in. A LOT WORSE. How politically astute is this?

Yeah, take the lesser evil.

Yeah, take the lesser evil. That's how you were taught.

I agree with Jane

Maybe Sununu has not taken the Dr. No approach to legislating but he is a pretty good guy to have in there versus the alternative. Plus, I really think that with a Ron Paul administration, Senator Sununu (and many other conservatives) would not have to compromise so much with their voting. You will see a lot of people come out of the woodwork who want to support a Constitutional government but who were not courageous enough to speak up and be the lone wolf like Dr. Paul. Please do not "swiftboat" the Sununu campaign. NH already lost Charlie Bass in the last election. I think I would be sick for a month straight if Jeanne "Clinton Crony" Shaheen were elected to represent NH in the senate.

fox news = failboat.jpg

fox news is still hung up on 9/11

they sound like rudy.

Sununu made deal with GHWBush

He got New Hampshire for that serpent and got to be Chief of Staff, if I recall correctly.
Of course his words are nice.

You are partially correct...

You are referring to the current Senator Sununu's FATHER (also named John Sununu)...he was a NH governor.

Bring back the League of Women Voters!

I remember the good old days when it seemed that all debates were run by the League of Women Voters and they did a hell of a good job at keeping them "Fair and Balanced" unlike Fox and Disney (ABC) who run Mickey Mouse debates!

League

The League of Women Voters has an absolutely terrible record of discrimination against legitimate third party candidates. They are an essential part of the power party.

Are you sure about that?

I'm sure Larry Agran would disagree with you
http://youtube.com/watch?...

NH Republicans

NH Republicans have traditionally approached politics with a philosophy of "keep your hands off my wallet and your nose out of my business". You may not agree with Senator Sununu on every vote he has cast but he is one of the good guys.

Unfortunately NH is changing. A massive influx of Massholes in recent years is eroding away at the traditions and culture of the Granite State, and it has an effect on the political landscape. They move here for low taxes, low crime, a culture of liberty, and beautiful clean environment. But then they get nostalgic for the Big Brother government they left behind. In the last election they voted out two decent congressmen and replaced them with big government liberals (one of them from New York City). Part of this was backlash for Bush's policies and a let's vote for anyone that doesn't have an (R) beside their name mentality, but part of it was due to the changing demographic in the southern part of the state. I am hopeful that many of these new people will hear Dr. Paul's message and realize that his philosophy for the federal government is the same philosophy that makes NH such a great place. Hopefully they will reject the nanny state mentality that they have been force-fed from Boston (Dukakis and Romney) and Washington D.C.(Kennedy and Kerry). Hopefully they will resist the urge to change NH into the very place from which they fled. Hopefully they will open their eyes to the real problems in D.C. and realize that Dr. Paul has the cure.

Anyway, I am very happy to see Senator Sununu speak out on this topic. Pandering or not, it will have a positive effect on NH voters. Even if Fox does not change their position, the voters here have been reminded that the views of all these candidates are important enough to be heard and carefully considered.

Let's Support Sununu

We must support Senator Sununu.

Authenticity is rewarded!

Authenticity is rewarded! Maybe Paul is starting to rub off on DC. Come on folks, let's civilize ourselves! Stand upright, knuckles off the floor....am i being too cynical...tee hee. Maybe the politicians will evolve to be principled....(those of them that buy into that sort of thing (evolution, spiritual integrity, and all...)
Have some REAL American pride....Tell the damn truth!

Thank John Sununu here and let him know how Un-American this is

http://www.sununu.senate....

Thank him for standing up for Americans everywhere and protecting his state's "first in the nation primary" ... they take that pretty seriously.

Possible Endorsement?

I am writing him now to thank him and at the same time to thank him for taking a stand against the Patriot Act and for being a supporter of small government and sound fiscal policies.

In case any of you do not know, he is a featured speaker at the "Liberty In Our Lifetime" Liberty Forum in NH along with Ron Paul. Senator Sununu is the featured speaker at Saturday night's dinner and, then, Ron Paul gives the closing address on Sunday....perhaps the most important thing he is doing on Jan. 6. Far more important than being stuck in a bus with those Bozos.

I know Sen. Sununu has said he will not endorse anyone, but I can't help but wonder if he might do just that Saturday night. If some of the people at that forum come on over to a big, big, big Rally on the 6th with it all Ron Paul and open to the public and the media....that would be big. And, if Sen. Sununu waited until the Rally and let the press know he had an announcement to make at the Rally....they'd come. In fact, after Iowa and the Liberty Forum and the fact that everyone is now beginning to understand just what this movement is all about, I have the feeling January 6 will be a very good day with or without an endorsement.

For those who didn't see the speech today or nite to the Veterans, watch and thank Larry King for warming the Dr. up on his taping, because he was all fired up in his speech. Ronald Reagan would have been proud. And, Ron Paul was not acting....he was unbelievable.

LF

The closing ceremony at the LF will be RP preaching to the choir... not that this is not nice, but he did this last year the day after his big fundraiser. I am hoping that Sununu is well-received because we need to keep his opponent out as he is up for re-election in '08.

Why cant the NH GOP run

Why cant the NH GOP run their own debate with a local affiliate? We can chip in to fund them do it.

Maybe the Governor of NH can fail to provide police security for the event. Perhaps we can encourage the venue to back out too.

Governor?

Are you kidding? The 'independents' stupidly voted in a Democrat for a governor and he's done nothing but raise taxes and pander to the left.. he's now trying to centralize education here and take it out of the hands of local control. He's no help he IS the problem.. arrgh.

wow

wow

Who's In Charge Here?

My impression is that ABC and Fox News have decided to let the people of New Hampshire and the NH GOP just who is in charge of the political process, and it isn't the people or the parties. They've gone from merely reporting the news to deciding.

Is this the Gary I know?

Hello? :-)

Well...

The news outlets have the money and equipment, the GOP just lends its name. Without the cameras, and crew etc...no debate would happen. It costs millions to put on one of the bigger ones like you will see on the 5th, I am not sure the production cost of the forum that is closed, with no live audience.

They more than recoup that

They more than recoup that cost in advertising revenue, and they wouldn't receive any without the sanction of the parties. They can take their equipment and stick it.

Thank you, Senator!!

About time that the leaders from New Hampshire step forward and say something!! I feel sorry for the people of NH in that the national media is taking over something that should be just for NH--without outside influence--just outside observance.

I like John Sununu (except

I like John Sununu (except for the war, etc) and I am voting for him in 08 , but I think he might be pandering just a little - even though I'm sure he is completely honest in his comments - because the Union leader (NH paper) predicted a bunch of things for the year 2008, and one of them was "Ron Paul supporters will find a friend in John Sununu and help him keep his seat in the Senate for another term"

Sununu is speaking at the Liberty Forum the day either after or before Ron Paul , I cannot remember, and is generally Libertarian on certain issues. (he just led the fight against the internet regulation/tax)

Rich in NH

Sununu

Sununu is our most libertarian Senator... I would have thought Judd Gregg would have had some say about this matter since he supposedly is the one who arranged for St A's to be the center of all these debates during presidentials. As a Senator, Gregg tends to be a bit too liberal for me.

I think Sununu has gone against the establishment especially on the Real ID issue and other things and is generally our ally. I mean you would not want to put in office his opposition. There is no sense in going against him when you see what they are like. And he is very fiscally conservative too...he will be easier to convince on the civil rights than any of his Democrat opponents.

So when is Dr. Ron going to make his legitimate FCC complaint??

NH is grassroots-friendly

I'm telling you, although some don't want to believe it, NH is very grassroots friendly. We run the elections around here. We populate the GOP here. We may definitely have some neocons or liberal republicans, but we do not exclude people...the state is too small and the chances are you will see the people you shunned and it will come back to haunt you. NH is way too cozy -- we know all our reps and meet our presidential candidates scores of times before making our decisions. NH is the best!

NH Fact: We have the largest representative citizens legislature next to the British Parliament and the US Congress. (400 members) Our legislators don't get paid more than $200/yr, and we have them from ages 18 to 90. Our statehouse is easily accessible, no appts needed and we testify on bills any time we wish at open hearings.
