Ron Paul to Address Johns Hopkins Paul H. Nitze School of Advanced International Studies 9-11-2007
Confounding critics who deride his international policy approach as naïve or simplistic, the prestigious Johns Hopkins Paul H. Nitze School of Advanced International Studies (SAIS) in Washington, D.C., has invited Ron Paul to make a keynote policy address on September 11.
Ron Paul will be speaking on “A Tradtional Non-Intervention Foreign Policy†– topic that has likely languished in most US international schools and think tanks in the modern era. Says one source close privy to the negotiations surrounding the invitation, “This school is engaged in a 20th century, interventionist, foreign policy approach. For them to invite him to make a major address like this shows how seriously his views are being taken by the educational establishment and by the political establishment in general.â€
And he adds, “This election has come down to Ron Paul versus the rest of the Republican candidates. He has set the party on its ear, and anyone who thinks that he is a so-called fringe candidate at this point is not grasping reality."
The announcement reads as follows:
"A Traditional Non-Intervention Foreign Policy"
11 a.m. to Noon - Kenney Auditorium, Nitze Building
Ron Paul, Republican congressman and 2008 presidential candidate, will discuss this topic. For more information and to RSVP, contact cpfr@jhu.edu or 202.587.3237. Media who want to cover this event should register with Felisa Neuringer Klubes in the SAIS Communications Office at 202.663.5626 or fklubes@jhu.edu.
SAIS is one of the most prestigious American schools for international studies. The website describes the school as follows:
“The Paul H. Nitze School of Advanced International Studies (SAIS) in Washington, D.C., is a leading graduate school of international affairs, educating students for professional careers in government, business, journalism, international law and non-profit organizations. Founded in 1943 by Paul Nitze and Christian Herter, SAIS has been a division of The Johns Hopkins University since 1950.â€

Like the "Bay Area 7-15-07
I wish that Dr. Ron Paul's John Hopkink's speech could be aired over national T.V. The thought of spending the money necessary for such programming going to "the fourth estate" bothers me but the impact on the voting public would be very positive. Both his speech and answers for live audience questions were clear and informative. { I also think that the "Bay Area" speech given 7-15-07 is wonderful and can be found at the Silver Bear Cafe.com}
I am just floating an idea, but maybe Dr. Paul's campaign could benifit from a series of television speeches delivered over the months leading up to the election.. The truth is that I often feel that during G.O.P. debates and in most media interviews , Dr.Paul is working in less than ideal settings.
Historic invasions
I haven't listened to the lecture yet, but regarding the proposition that "9/11 changed everything,"I was wondering if anyone has ever brought up the point that the constitution and the founders' view of foreign policy were discussed immediately after being attacked by the British Empire...?
They still said, "avoid entangling alliances..."
Just curious, any thoughts?

Regarding the 60 minutes piece...
If this is true, I don't see what kind of supposed "hit piece" they can possibly do on Dr. Paul, simply for the fact that his voting record is consistent with his preaching. How bad can a hit piece be, when any rational thinking person who has looked into his record, can see that it pretty much speaks for itself? Any slandering or negative blathering toward him in a hit piece will hit a brick wall fast. Just as everyone recognizes the bias at the debates, and during the post debate commentary, will easily recognize the bias in a 60 minutes interview, and we know that Dr. Paul can more than adequately deal with these vultures and set the record straight. Truth illuminates the mind, and Dr. Paul has a lot of that to share with people.
what they could do...
They could either focus on the side issues of some RP supporters, conspiracy theories etc... and accuse him of being a fringe candidate.
or
They could try to scare people by saying he would get rid of the fed, irs, social secuirty, medicare and get out of the UN on day one. All they have to do is say this with a grey picture, scary music and a snarky voiceover followed by an out of context quote and it will be a major hit piece.
I hope they do a heartfelt upbeat fair segment similar to what they did with Howard Stern.
It went very well
The crowd gave lots of interruptions of applause and ended with a standing ovation. He took some very good questions about Marque and Reprisal, Iran and Israel, and the Fed and the Gold Standard.
His speech focused on the foreign policy and lasted about 35 minutes. They did have a video camera there, so it may be published.
He was kind enough to shake everyone's hand and take some pictures afterward and he sign some autographs. I went to buy his new book yesterday to have it autographed but it wasn't at Borders.
It was a nice experience.
Paul at Hopkins
I think this is an excellent sign.
And I am not surprised. Hopkins is a diverse and first rate institution and hawkish foreign policy experts, even at SAIS, are by no means a majority or even all that influential.
There are at least an equal number of policy experts with a liberal (classical liberal) point of view.
It is not always the number of supporters that counts in these sorts of things. But the quality. As more academics, foreign policy experts, and journalists show sympathy to Paul's point of view, the MSM will be forced to treat him more respectfully.
The MSM has its share of alert and inquisitive reporters, like FOX's Carl Cameron. I can't think they are all going to miss what's happening here.
One really shouldn't be so certain that Paul will be written off.
As he gains visibility, people are going to see him as he is and not as he is caricatured. Truth has an unmistakeable and refreshing tone to it.
Especially to ears worn out by lies.
Upload this on video format
I would love to hear what these intellectuals are going to say when they here this. However, it is apparent that someone at John Hopkins really likes Ron Paul despite the slant at that University.

Good forum for Dr. Paul
.
This is the kind of event that Dr. Paul might be doing more, and to shun the bombastics of Fox and O'Reilly. We are a year out from the convention and good exposure, such as this, is infinitely more profitable than Dr. Paul's fighting for his chance against a loudmouth.
Academics talk with each other and the word gets spread quietly and effectively. Hopkins is a top institution, well respected and influential. Paul's appearance can have a deep and meaningful effect.
He can save the crazy stuff for when his poll numbers are higher.
We have to do both
....And any or all avenues that present themselves. If you want to run with the big dogs you have to get off the porch. I fully appreciate that it is good to have an intellectual discourse, but that doesn't bode well with me, i.e. George W Bush graduated Yale. I have "GULF WAR VET for RON PAUL " painted on the rear window of my nasty, old, work truck. This sort of guerrilla campaign is just as effective with a non intellectual demographic. It's great that he did well at Johns Hopkins but we need to be as adamant about every area of exposure.
Encouraging news
Now, if only the main stream media would acknowledge Dr. Paul as a viable
candidate.
Gird your loins
The MSM is not, I repeat, NOT going to acknowledge RP until he wins the presidency. Paint your car, put a sign in front of your house, tell at least ten people a week, join a meet up, etc., etc., etc.. In fact if by some twist of fate, RP should get the nomination, you will see Hannity, O'reily, Limbaugh , Boortz and the rest become adamant supporters of Clinton/? and her newly found reason and understanding of all issues.
Unlikely
.
Ron Paul is a threat to the status quo, the business-as-usual, CFR-sponsored progarams such as the WTO, NAFDA, GATT, the U.N. and the likely North American Union. As I write this, Mexican trucks are streaming into the heartland, the dollar is down and our borders remain open. This is all part of the effort to destabilize our government to the point that we will have to join the North American Union for mutual "security and prosperity." Paul, naturally, opposes it all.
The following candidates are CFR: Romney, Giuliani, Thompson, McCain, Clinton, Biden, Obama, Edwards. Their agenda is the further destabilization of the United States in its economy, domestic programs and foreign policy. As well, most of the major media moguls are members of the CFR, and there is a long list. They are all part of this "old boys" network of control. This also includes most of the major daily papers, magazines such as Time, Newsweek, US News & World Report, The New Yorker, even Popular Mechanics.
60 Minutes is preparing a piece about Dr. Paul and I hope he has the guts to back away from participation: it cannot be a good piece nor in any way supportive or reflective of his views. It could be devastating; they are unscrupulous and their agenda is to discredit him.
Mainstream media = propaganda. It is probably a good idea to avoid the media completely and focus on the internet, meetup groups and grassroots efforts. So far, they have produced fantastic result, without the help of the press.
