Please, Do not concede the Christian evangelical vote to Huck...
Submitted by christopher X on Fri, 01/04/2008 - 01:46
i am a Christian evangelical. i understand why many of my Brother's and Sister's in the Lord voted for Huckabee. This is why.
Huckabee stood up for Jesus Christ and what Christian evangelicals hold dear. Ron Paul should not just concede them to Huckabee. Ron Paul should fight a little bit for them.
It would not take much for Ron Paul to stand up for Jesus Christ, and to explain to them how this country was founded on the belief in Jesus Christ and the principles He laid out in the Bible for His people to follow. for in this video...
http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-1656880303867390173...
...it explains that the founding fathers of this country understood that this Republic could not stand without the people living by the moral standards written of in the Bible by our God and creator. for without the guiding light of God's principles lived out in His people...people could not possibly govern themselves in a Republic form of government.
Ron Paul talks about this, as personal responsibility...which goes hand in hand with our freedoms.
Ron Paul needs to explain these things to the evangelicals, clearly and boldly, if he wants to draw their vote his way. Ron Paul also needs to express these things in light of why our founding fathers drafted and ratifyed the united States of America's Constitution and Declaration of Independence, with God's own principles found in the Bible and that it was the people's job to hold it's elected officials to these principles, and to their oath to preserve and protect the Constitution. We should not concede the Christian evangelical vote to Huckabee.
And Ron Paul should not allow Huckabee to steal his slogans and platforms that Ron Paul is running on. for example...did you see Huckabee use the phrase "Hope for America" and "revolution" in his speech tonight???

Thanks Howard....

Render unto Caesar?
"Render unto Caesar the things that are Caesar's and unto God the things that are God's."
Why did Jesus say this?...essentially translated "you got the government you asked for" since the Jewish elders invited the Roman government-in sectarian wars. Contrary to popular erroneous belief, the Romans did not invade the Jews, rather, the Pharisees paid Pompey (Roman General) to take out the 'other side' (63-31BC)---but then the Romans stayed.
Christians fully misunderstand this scripture; As if we are not to be part of 'distasteful' government. Government has become distasteful because God-fearing men have abandoned their responsibility of citizenry.
In this republic---YOU/ME are Caesar. Why? A republic is not rule by law, rather is rule by Elders.
Are you a properly functioning elder, pastor, teacher, evangelist, administrator, etc. in your local congregation? If not, why not---get busy and show up to your city council meeting (with your other 10 elders) and show up at the ballot box too. Unless, you are "Purpose-Driven" then you need to stay home until you repent.
If all of the 'men' that are supposed to be elders would do this, the country could be healed in 48 hours.
Notice the below does not say if the "SINNERS" repent...rather, this was to if "MY PEOPLE"
"If My people which are called by My name shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land" (2 Chron. 7:14)."

An Excellent Point
Ron Paul should certainly start talking more about his faith. Like it or not, many people vote for a candidate based on their religious beliefs. This is a sure-fire way for him to solidify support and he would not have to feign anything. From what I have read, he is a devout Christian. He could speak from his heart and explain to people his beliefs. Let's face it, a person's faith does impact on their behavior. It is a key factor in how they view the world and how they react to different situations. I feel that voters are desperate to hear Dr. Paul freely express his Christian beliefs. He should definitely do this!
Dr. Paul knows
He is not doing this on purpose. It will turn off far more than you know.

Really...some of the christian-bashing on here.
What if these things were written--about Muslims...or even...forbid...Mormons.
Think about it people... RP is a believer--you bashing him too?
not
If Ron Paul were talking religion all the time and holding up Jesus signs I would not be a supporter of his. He is a believer in private and he has my respect for that.
I grew up in the evangelical world...
I grew up in the evangelical world... I have tried to talk to them about Ron Paul... they straight up tell me they dont want peace... they go on about how oil is going to be found in Israel soon and then it will be revelations time... they WANT armageddon ... not a logical solution to real world problems. We COULD get them... but Ron Paul would have to start pandering and making up lies about how the world works... start talking about how arabs are bad in their blood because they come from the bad blood line of Abraham... racist crap... Maybe after the Democrats get done pushing christianity completely out of our society they will finally wake up to how stupid they have been... If they dont bring us armageddon first.
Religion and Politics
simply, whether your religious or not, what church you belong to, doesnt matter.
we all should be doing church out reaches. finding people who are ron paul supporters and regular church goers to help spread ron's message at church and church activities.
proven fact, word of mouth advertising is most responsive, people rather hear about politics from a friend or family matter. they will be more receptive.
also, very important, church goers also tend to be those that actually vote. other excellent places to reach out to are veterans and senior living centers. again, high percentage of these people vote. we need to bring more people to the voting machines. cant rely soley on the internet.
Ok...Dave will be on here in a few
Please do not discount Dave's influence. He is a true prayerful, man of God.

Barry Goldwater had this to
Barry Goldwater had this to say about the so-called Christian Right: "Do not associate my name with anything you do. You are extremists, and you've hurt the Republican Party much more than the Democrats have."
Honestly, I don't see how the majority of these people could ever vote for Paul. I just don't view it as a possibility. Ron isn't anti-gay, anti-muslim, or pro-Israel enough. I'm not trying to offend any Christian Evangelicals that support Ron but I'm just making the point that he just isn't going to appeal to most of the evangelical community. At least, that's how it looks to someone who is not a part of that community.

You are wrong in this...Let me explain...
The GREAT majority of Christians are mis-informed and have been led astray because they keep their eye on their Pastor and NOT on Jesus Christ. See people as individuals, not groups.
There are many intelligent, well-read, well-educated, politically savvy Christians who will vote for Ron Paul and have contributed money time and effort to the campaign. You won't find many of them here reading these posts because most of the time when the word "Christian" is uttered here, it's in a negative context, and it's tiring after a while and it turns more people off than you realize.
Look at people as individuals, not groups. Hasn't Dr. Paul taught us that we shouldn't assume "all Christians are bigoted idiots," "all military people are for war," "all liberals are communists," etc.
Dr. Paul does not care to lump people into special interest groups, so we should follow his example. Not all who say they are Christians truly are followers of Christ. Not all true Christians are stupid sheep who don't know better.
Amen!
Thanks for representing us!
Statement of Faith
Statement of Faith
By Rep. Ron Paul, MD.
The Covenant News ~ July 21, 2007
We live in times of great uncertainty when men of faith must stand up for our values and our traditions lest they be washed away in a sea of fear and relativism. As you likely know, I am running for President of the United States, and I am asking for your support.
I have never been one who is comfortable talking about my faith in the political arena. In fact, the pandering that typically occurs in the election season I find to be distasteful. But for those who have asked, I freely confess that Jesus Christ is my personal Savior, and that I seek His guidance in all that I do. I know, as you do, that our freedoms come not from man, but from God. My record of public service reflects my reverence for the Natural Rights with which we have been endowed by a loving Creator.
I have worked tirelessly to defend and restore those rights for all Americans, born and unborn alike. The right of an innocent, unborn child to life is at the heart of the American ideal of liberty. My professional and legislative record demonstrates my strong commitment to this pro-life principle.
In 40 years of medical practice, I never once considered performing an abortion, nor did I ever find abortion necessary to save the life of a pregnant woman. In Congress, I have authored legislation that seeks to define life as beginning at conception, H.R. 1094. I am also the prime sponsor of H.R. 300, which would negate the effect of Roe v Wade by removing the ability of federal courts to interfere with state legislation to protect life. This is a practical, direct approach to ending federal court tyranny which threatens our constitutional republic and has caused the deaths of 45 million of the unborn. I have also authored H.R. 1095, which prevents federal funds to be used for so-called “population control.” Many talk about being pro-life. I have taken and will continue to advocate direct action to restore protection for the unborn.
I have also acted to protect the lives of Americans by my adherence to the doctrine of “just war.” This doctrine, as articulated by Augustine, suggested that war must only be waged as a last resort--- for a discernible moral and public good, with the right intentions, vetted through established legal authorities (a constitutionally required declaration of the Congress), and with a likely probability of success.
It has been and remains my firm belief that the current United Nations-mandated, no-win police action in Iraq fails to meet the high moral threshold required to wage just war. That is why I have offered moral and practical opposition to the invasion, occupation and social engineering police exercise now underway in Iraq. It is my belief, borne out by five years of abject failure and tens of thousands of lost lives, that the Iraq operation has been a dangerous diversion from the rightful and appropriate focus of our efforts to bring to justice to the jihadists that have attacked us and seek still to undermine our nation, our values, and our way of life.
I opposed giving the president power to wage unlimited and unchecked aggression, However, I did vote to support the use of force in Afghanistan. I also authored H.R. 3076, the September 11 Marque and Reprisal Act of 2001. A letter of marque and reprisal is a constitutional tool specifically designed to give the president the authority to respond with appropriate force to those non-state actors who wage aggression against the United States while limiting his authority to only those responsible for the atrocities of that day. Such a limited authorization is consistent with the doctrine of just war and the practical aim of keeping Americans safe while minimizing the costs in blood and treasure of waging such an operation.
On September 17, 2001, I stated on the house floor that “…striking out at six or eight or even ten different countries could well expand this war of which we wanted no part. Without defining the enemy there is no way to know our precise goal or to know when the war is over. Inadvertently more casual acceptance of civilian deaths as part of this war I'm certain will prolong the agony and increase the chances of even more American casualties. We must guard against this if at all possible.” I’m sorry to say that history has proven this to be true.
I am running for president to restore the rule of law and to stand up for our divinely inspired Constitution. I have never voted for legislation that is not specifically authorized by the Constitution. As president, I will never sign a piece of legislation, nor use the power of the executive, in a manner inconsistent with the limitations that the founders envisioned.
Many have given up on America as an exemplar for the world, as a model of freedom, self-government, and self-control. I have not. There is hope for America. I ask you to join me, and to be a part of it.
Sincerely,
Ron Paul
Huckabee didn't stand up for Jesus.
He used Jesus to stand up for his political agenda. He used the name of the lord to boost his Christian support. Any Christian who supports a man just because he says "Jesus" is not a Christian. Any small investigation into Huckabee's record, and past, shows that he is not what he claims to be. Many evil man have used the name of the lord to prosper, and to enslave mankind. Many good Christians have died in the name of Jesus, because of these men. It is our duty as Christians to inform our brothers and sisters in Christ of this Man's true nature. The Evangelicals that gave us Bush are giving us Huckabee. Enough said.

Dr. Paul
Dr. Paul is the smartest of all of us. He does not flash his religious beliefs in front of us all like some kind of banner. He keeps it personal and private within his family where it belongs. He leaves it out of political discussions. He knows it has no place in government or in the presidential race.
His political positions are rooted in what's right, and I'm sure that many of his principled beliefs are based upon not only our Constitution, but on his religion, like many of us.
Frankly, I tire of all the religious threads here and I've bailed out more than once in my daily reading. Keep your prayer and your religion private please, like the good doc. Learn something from him. This is a political website. If you think a Christians for Ron Paul effort will help get him elected, start another website and by all means focus on it! Plastering it in front of everyone else is not productive and we'll lose valuable activists because of it.
Don't Read Them
If you don't like a forum topic, don't open it.
If religion is not important in this election, why is Huckabee #1 in Iowa?
IA represents 1%.
IA is part of of the country, not all of it! They spoke loud and clear on the rep side that they want a government that imposes religious beliefs, that gives them their subsidies. From both sides, Dems and Reps, IA made it clear they are pro big government.
For the majority of this country religion should be out of politics.

You're exactly right, but...
...just as we would like our religious supporters to "keep (their) prayer and religion private", I would also like to request that the less or non-religious folks keep their lack of prayer and religion private, as well. I'm afraid that the bashing given to the religious-minded folks who are reading here will turn them off of our candidate.
Religion, or lack thereof, should NOT be a political issue, and we only further it as one when it is derided, condemned, made fun of, and slammed as ignorant. People who might otherwise be interested in the Ron Paul platform will be turned off completely to the message when they feel attacked on something as near & dear as their faith, and to Huck they'll run.
I'm with you 100% on following Dr. Paul's example on this!!

"It would not take much for Ron Paul to stand up for Allah, and to explain to them how this country was founded on the belief in Muhammed and the principles He laid out in the Koran for His people to follow.
...it explains that the founding fathers of this country understood that this Republic could not stand without the people living by the moral standards written of in the Koran by our God and creator, Allah. for without the guiding light of Allah's principles lived out in His people...people could not possibly govern themselves in a Republic form of government."
Doesn't sound so good, does it. We fight the "extreme" influence of religion in government overseas, but are supposed to kowtow to it at home???? Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof...there is a fine line we are trying to walk here.
I think our candidate best protects and substantiates his and your shared faith in action through his adherence to the law of the land. Many are coming in my name but not all are called by me, etc...I think we all have to be careful of politicians who are so blatantly pushing our buttons.
Freedom of Religion, Freedom of Speech
First of all your analogy is not entirely right. I personally feel good when I hear a sincere person explain his beliefs. It shows confidence. It is not shoving religion down your throat. I tell Muslims it's far better to vote for Ron Paul who is a true Christian than for Obama who rejected his father's religion and became a Christian so that he could "fit in" in the US.
Our forefathers created this country to enable us to have the freedom to worship God the way we want, without being persecuted. Women come here from Turkey to go to college, for the freedom to be allowed to wear a scarf. In Turkey, which is a 99% Muslim population country, women are forbidden from going to university or working for the government if they don't adopt European style of dress. This is tyranny and people hate it.
The idea of "freedom from God" is something new that was injected into American culture as a bi-product of socialism. Even though I have been a peace activist all my life, I never felt comfortable with all the anti-religion rhetoric. It felt like people were disrespecting the most intimate part of me.
Most of these leftist atheist types also act tyrannical whenever you try to mention Ron Paul. They tell you, in a hostile tone, not to talk about Ron Paul in their presence as if you had told them you believe in Jesus.
So now that I am a Republican, part of me feels more at ease. I have religious freedom at last. I can finally say Jesus (peace be upon him). I'm the kind of person who refuses to say "Happy Holidays" to Christians and always says "Merry Christmas" because I want to validate people's traditions not devalue their beliefs.
Anyway, the biggest voter block is church-going Christians so it should not be considered offensive to talk to that audience. I think he should talk about his pro-life beliefs and his personal relationship with Christ, and how much he loves his family, now and then, because he helps him seem more warm and fuzzy to Christians. So much of his philosophy is very abstract and intellectual and doesn't move the average American.
...in case you missed it below...here it is again.
Ignorance seems to run rampant on the DP, especially when religion is brought up. This nation was NEVER a christian nation. The founders made this nation a secular nation, to protect the citizens from the state. Christians always seem to equate good behavior with christianity, thus assuming that before christianity there was no good behavior or decency in the world. The golden rule predates christianity by a thousand years or better, and has nothing to do with christianity. In fact, the pilgrims to this country had a far different belief or faith than todays christians have. Many founders were not christians. The reason the creator was so important to the founders, is because it took power from man and gave it to a creator. Our freedoms exist because the creator exists. Take away the creator(evolution), and you simultaneously take away our rights. Period. If a specific religion can be tied to the creator, then our enemies can simply take away that particular religion, thus taking away the creator, thus taking away our rights. For instance, if christianity is tied to the creator in the constitution, and the rockefellers(who own the dead sea scrolls) came out tomorrow and said the scrolls prove that Jesus was not a real person, then the rockefellers would have instantly ended our freedoms. Are you beginning to get it? I hope so. Read about the founders before speaking for them.

These so-called Christians and I don't mix
When I'm told many times to my face that I will go to hell because my beliefs are different then we have a problem! I don't feel at all comfortable having these people mixed in government. Imagine having someone like Huckabee for president and this is what they told us they want in IA. Good thing they only represent about 1% of this country!

This guy takes on the "Sunday Christians" who voted for Huck yesterday. Very good job of contrasting Paul and Huck and who is actually following the teachings of Jesus.

Not too bad...
but Huckabee's ethics issues should have been mentioned, I was also disappointed in the "eye for an eye" remark-- eye for an eye was actually more just than many other cultures, and it was understood that monetary compensation could be substituted for the physical penalty.

Also, if it comes down to Mitt and Paul, the Evangelicals will stay at home.
The one thing they hate worse than a non-muslim killer, is a Mormon.
Dude
True followers of Christ, like yourself are already voting for Paul.
The majority of todays Evangelical movement are interesting in forcing the hand of God to bring on armegeddon, and only want to hear two things from a candidate; "I'm a good Christian feller, and I'm willing to kill millions of those Heathern muslims for Jaysssuuuss!"
Good, bad, right or wrong that is the case.

How can you be a good christian if you are a pro-war fanatic? It is something i do not understand. RP has the right message (and the one with the right and accurate 'christian message' if you want to say that, Jesus preached peace and understanding among all nations and people) but the ones receiving it (some or many /christian right) have a twisted (can i say 'sick'?) version of christianity (why and how this came to be is a long long history......
We need ammo that tells other why Huck is only pandering!
"It does not take a majority to prevail ... but rather an irate, tireless minority, keen on setting brushfires of freedom in the minds of men." - Samuel Adams
"The use of 'Conspiracy Theorist' or 'Truther' as a derogatory -- as an epithet almost -- is something the propagandists have perfected over the decades, and it's a useful tool for eliminating articulate dissent."
Kinda
We should all concur that we need to promote peace and shun violence and war. Politics is a power grab. Any means used to accomplish these ends will be used by most.
Ron Paul is an exception, and therefor exceptional.
Huckabee is probably a decent man, as an individual. Huckabee's statements on foreign policy make him untenable for the office of President for me. #1 Attack Pakistan. #2 50% increase in defense spending. #3 Increase size of military.
Huckabee is NOT a viable option for President, if you want #1 no war, (and never a preemptive war). #2 sound money #3 balanced budget. Any one of those three, Huckabee aint the man for the job.
Let Huckabee imitate, dance a jig or even call himself Ron Paul Jr. These are exhibitions of character flaws that are not a reason to despair for the real Ron Paul.
I'm campaigning for a good President, not a good preacher.
