Sad Day in West Virginia: 3 out of 5 in my family can't vote.

Sorry if this gets confusing. We all live in a house with no mail box, and use a post office box for our mail. My and my dad both called last November to register for online voting. The other three members of our family noticed that the site said specifically that would could not vote online if you could not receive mail at you address on your voter card. We thought they would just have to go to the polls. Me an Dad received our online voter information today, it was addressed to our street address and being a small community the post office put it in our POBoxes.

Today I call the WV GOP and try to find when and where the polls would be. They called back and left a message that " They knew there was a problem and made concessions to people with only POBoxes but there would be no polls in our county and since the registration period was long over there was nothing that could be done. " First off they made NO concessions, they didn't mail ours to the POBox as we should not have received it. I wonder if this only happened to RP delegates.

I have the web page with the rules saved and WV GOP's response is in my voice mail if anyones got a means of recourse.

There IS Online Voting in W.V.

West Virginia's upcoming events to whittle-down presidential candidates seems a bit complex, so please check with the West Virginia Secretary Of State's Office and the West Virginia GOP for details.

Here's the information one phone call yielded:

West Virginia will send a total of 30 delegates to the Republican National Convention in September.

During the first two weeks of January, 2008, W.V. voters who registered prior to November 30, 2007 will be voting online to select delegates for the West Virginia Republican Convention to be held on February 5, 2008. This State Convention, conducted by the Republican Party, is a winner-take-all contest; the winner's 18 pre-selected delegates will then go on to the National Republican Convention in Minneapolis/St. Paul in September, 2008.

The West Virginia State Primary Election will be held on May 13, 2008. Nine Republican delegate votes are at stake in this state-sponsored primary; three for each congressional district in West Virginia. The delegates chosen in this primary will go on to the National Republican Convention in Minneapolis/St. Paul in September, 2008.

The remaining three delegate votes are based upon the personal preference of three people: the Republican Party Chairman, the National Committeewoman and the National Committeeman.

You are correct, some more info

Me and my Dad did vote online, we could not use the online registration. I have it printed and a cached copy here. http://64.233.169.104/sea...
We called and they registered us, but still did not sent it to the correct address. Lucky the post office caught it and sent it to our POBox.

The other three members caught the line #3 and we told they would have to go to vote. I could not find out when and where it is, so I called, and our county only does online voting. The lady I spoke to had to call me back, and I did not answer the phone so I have it on voice mail. She said basically they are out of luck. Also that they knew of the problem and allowed people with a POBox to register for online voting, if that was true why didn't they mail them to me and my dad? Only knowing the mailman got us ours.

The voting on May 13th is not a problem, we will all be there.
Also when we voted online, you got to select 8 people out of 8 options, 6 were RP supporters( me and dad included) and 2 undecided. So I'm not sure it matters.

Should I be screaming? Calling lawyer? Calling ACLU?
Depressed

CALL THE ACLU IMMEDIATELY

Trust me, they will most likely sue for your right to vote. There is no reason for anyone to be excluded like this. They will help you I promise.

Please post your results to this website after you call them.

Some counties are holding conventions whereby registered Republicans can just walk in and vote for convention delegates, so you need to look into thas ASAP.

If you are not OUTRAGED, you're not paying attention!

Thanks

I emailed him.
We have no convention, I guess that goes with not have a stoplight either.

There is no online voting

The Republican party doesn't run the elections, the state and counties do. Maybe you got confused because they had a way you could fill out a voter registration form online. They may be trying to stop you from voting. Go to this site:

http://www.wv.gov/offsite...

Click Register to Vote on the left side column. Download the form, fill it out, print it out, and sign it. Use your home address. There is nothing they need to mail to you in order for you to be able to vote. Then click on the "roster" link to get the address of your county clerk, that's where you mail it.

April 22 is the last day to register, and the WV primary is on May 13. There is a link that says "Voter Calendars" on a drop down list under the "Voting" tab.

You will normally receive a sample ballot in the mail prior to the election, that tells you where to go to vote. If you don't receive it, or you think you won't, you can call the county clerk for your county (phone # is on the list) and they will tell you.

this info is not correct

see Zoomerzmom post above.
