Does Anyone Know Anything About The Constitution Party?

I like what they say they believe in but do know anything about this party. I think we are getting close to having a 3rd party in this country and Ron Paul is head and shoulder above any other candidate.

Why, change parties

our supporters are running for office as Republicans and becoming delegates why would we want to abandon them. This campaign's not over we are making inroads in taking the party back. Our focus should be making the march that best and most exciting it can be.

There is no Constitutional provision for political parties.

The intent of the framers of the Constitution was outlined in the Federalist Papers. It was adamantly stated that political parties invite faction and contention and therefore had no place or purpose in the body politic.

With this in mind go ahead and read the thread below for an excellent disertation from my fellow enlighted Ron Paul supporters.

Close Second

There is much to recommend the Constitution Party to a rational Constitutionalist, but I lean more toward the Libertarian Party, and in fact have been a member since 1976. I find the general tone of the Libertarian Party more closely aligned with the secular character of our actual Constitution. Nevertheless, I recognize my Constitution Party brethren to be good-hearted fellow travellers. There is more to bind us than to separate us. If I had my druthers I'd ditch both names and ravel the joint membership with a few million more disaffected Demoblicans and independents into a new Federalist Party. At present, though, I find the LP best, the CP a close second, and anything else a distant third.

Of course, for the nonce, this all remains moot, as our primary mission is to get Dr Paul the Republican nomination.

From a Christian's Persepctive, They're the Best Political Party

As a member of the Constitution Party who will be voting for Congressman Paul in the Primaries, I can tell you that the Constitution Party has the best platform than any other political party to date, in my opinion. You can view their platform here.

The differences between the Constitution Party and the Libertarian Party are several. I would simply encourage you to view and compare the Libertarian Party's platform here with the Constitution Party's own platform. The major differences lie in social/moral issues, for the most part. I would say the Constitution Party has a more Biblical outlook on political affairs, whereas the Libertarian Party has more of a humanistic perspective.

Running for president

That is true about running in another party, but a very bright individual that I know that has spent a lot of time researching this issue believes that a person who ran in a party could still run in no party to circumvent the rules.

it's

unconstitutional.

tisk, tisk

REALLY? you know zilch! Do some research

because of the laws...

My understanding is that I don't believe Dr. Paul can run for president this year with any other Party. Some states note that if you've run under one party, you cannot switch and participate in Presidential election in their states - or something like that...

Misread

I think that you cannot switch to INDEPENDENT

But anyways, these laws have never held up in federal court because the person that the party chooses to run with their electoral slate is a matter of 1st amendment freedom of association rights.

Also

Also doesn't stop a third party from running another person named "ron paul" (say, "ron g paul") and then having their electors vote for "ron e paul". I honestly don't know why one of the third parties hasn't done this. the constitution and libertarian parties already have ballot access in all 50 states.

I heard that as well

Forgot where, but I did hear about it.

2004 elections

Constitution Party: Conservative attorney Michael Peroutka was the CP's 2004 Presidential nominee (ballot status in 36 states - 144,000 votes - 5th place - 0.1%). Immigration reform activist Jim Gilchrist -- a close ally of Congressman Tom Tancredo (R-CO) and founder of the controversial "Minuteman Project" civilian border patrols -- is a favorite for the party's 2008 nomination (unless, of course, Tancredo or Alan Keyes express an interest in it). The Constitution Party appear to have generally cemented their place as the third largest third party in the nation. http://www.constitution-p...

Libertarian Party: Computer consultant and tax-resister Michael Badnarik was the LP Presidential nominee in 2004 (397,000 votes - 4th place - 0.3%). http://www.lp.org/

Yes, Constitution party is third largest party and...

Have been very interested in this party. As Dr. Paul has noted, because of the power and money of our two party system, and the laws they've created, it is very hard to get a third party going.

We, who believe in restoring the Constitution would do well to look here for future support.

Convention Control

Assuming Ron Paul, does not start mopping up the primarires, if he can arrive at the GOP convention with enough delegates to determine who will win, this could be a much more powerful play than a third party run.

To go up against the Democrats the Republicans are going to need something dramatic like an overhaul of Foreign Policy, ie How do 700 military bases splattered all over the world make America safer?

If RP has achieved a strong delegate count he could have significant influence on the final set of positions. Every Primary counts.

In addition a third party run by RP might be more of a distraction away from RPR congressional races.

Change to the CP after the

Change to the CP after the primaries in your state like I am going to do... I Suggest that all of us do it on the same day. The day after Super Tuesday. I plan on scanning my new registration card and sending it to the Texas Republican Party.

We are Constitution Party supporters...

...and both the Presidential and VP candidates from 2004 (Michael Peroutka and Chuck Baldwin) have endorsed Ron Paul!

Let's Reign! (Rev. 5:10)

largest third party

the constitution party, also known as US taxpayer's party, is the largest 3rd party (based on voter registration).
i joined the constitution party for the last election. their candidate, michael peroutka (chuck baldwin was his VP), got about 0.1% of the vote. very disappointing, but i was voting for whom i thought was the best candidate. CP's views are very similar to Ron Paul's... protect the constitution, limit government to it's constitutional duties, lower taxes, etc.
visit their website www.constitutionparty.com
they have given much praise to ron paul.
they haven't announced their candidate yet.

My wife and I are both

My wife and I are both Constitution party members. I do not think this is the right time to be discussing this because our focus needs to be on getting RP the Republican nomination. However I would hate to hear the CP and the LP splitting any third party run. The only chance of success for a third party run would be for both of these organization uniting for the common cause. I don't feel like there are that many huge differences in ideology between the two. But that is something we can worry about when we get to that bridge. For now remember RP is running for the Republican nomination. DON'T GET DISTRACTED!!!!!

Ballot access

We do need to make sure the CP is on the ballot in all 50 states just in case Dr Paul decide to take that path.

CP vs LP

> I don't feel like there are that many huge differences in ideology between the two.

There is one big one, but it won't affect Ron Paul. The Constitution Party (at least in NY) has a "litmus test" for its candidates -- they must be against abortion. The Libertarian Party recognizes that there are libertarian arguments (based on individual rights) on both sides of the issue, depending on when you believe the fetus becomes an individual, separate being. So you will find "Pro-choice on Everything" as well as "Libertarians for Life" under the LP umbrella. Both parties are pretty comfortable with Ron Paul as a candidate.

Just speaking for NY again, the LP has a FAR better record of getting candidates on the statewide ballot than the CP does. 15,000 valid voter signatures are required, with vigorous challenges to be expected, and no "defect correction period" allowed. Therefore, 20K to 30K sigs are actually required to be collected in just 6 weeks (from people of any party who have not yet signed a petition for another candidate for the same office).

Only a few states prevent a candidate from being on another party line after running in a major party primary. 50-state ballot access (plus DC and territories) is *nearly* impossible for most 3rd party candidates anyway, BTW.

A good resource is Ballot Access News, published by Richard Winger: http://www.ballot-access....

Let's hope we don't need this info for RP!

Bible-oriented

I saw the 2004 candidate speak in a 3rd party debate. Libertarian with a bible backed focus. Much, much smaller than the Libertarian Party.

http://www.constitutionpa....

Do you know the main differences from the two parties

I certainly believe the Bible is important in what ever we do.

Mississippi's

http://www.mississippicp....

I think I would fall somewhere between Constitution and Libertarian.

Libertarians

are the third largest party, and they share almost all of RP's principles.

I know they don't...

...have as many elected officials as the Libertarian Party (40 Partisan Elected Officials and 149 Non-Partisan Elected Officials)...
