If you could pick Ron Pauls running-mate.

I've been thinking , if I could pick the running-mate for vice-president for Dr. Paul, who would it be...., considering I would want someone who would help give the same effect as the Ronald Reagan landslide when he was elected. You got a few good people like Chuck Hagel, Colin Powell, but......... what about Lou Dobbs, who stands for just about everything Ron Paul does. What about the rest of you, who would you suggest?

Colin Powell would be another great choice (but probably won't agree to run). And yes, he did get sandbagged. He was the most respected figure in the administration at that time, and no one can convince me he wasn't, by design, railroaded to present the WMD data. His response was protective but a bit eliciting of that too.
running mate
Between Mike Gravel and Dennis Kucinich I would have to go with Gravel and I think he would be thrilled to to be selected. The thought of a Paul/Gravel ticket is very exciting as these two men are true Statesman of the highest caliber. The benefits to this Nation and the World would be monumental setting a wonderful precedent now and for generations to come.

Having seen Chuck Hagel a week or so ago on with Bill Maher and also (thanks to one of the respondants here) on YouTube, he would make for an interesting VP. He's got "history" as well as name recognition, respect, MILITARY experience (let the neocons talk military strategy with a former General) and he strikes me as "a man under authority" so he would know and respect his place as SECOND in command (vs a certain current VP).
Jesse Ventura, would have NEVER thought of him, but some good points on here to his credit and consideration.
Mike Gravel, another interesting thought. I like the YouTube clip posted where Mike was very humble in his request to have a televised interview or debate with Ron. I know the argument of some that this would "lower" Ron's position, but (using Christian philosophy that many Christians do not abide by) why not "leave the 99 to give time to the '1'...?" It would be interesting to see a DEMOCRAT recruited for a REPUBLICAN nominee! In a general election, this could be HUGE, showing Ron's openness and willingness to "reach across the aisle." Let the Dems entertain a Republican to do the same...lol! Both of these men truly seem to have the American people's best interest at heart, so it would certainly liven things up a bit.
As to Pat Buchanan, gotta say I used to not care much for Pat, but he has grown on me, especially seeing him so many time on with Tucker. He has become (seemingly) a lot more moderate in his tone, though maybe not in his position. In other words, he doesn't seem as "angry" anymore, which is a good thing.
But at the end of the day, I agree most with those who say "let's just get Ron to the DANCE first!" I have no doubt that Ron will take all the possibilities into consideration and choose the best. I think we all trust his judgement in doing so. You don't spend 20 years in Congress without developing a LOT of political savvy. I have a feeling the good Doctor has just the right prescription when the time is right :-)
Mike Gravel
I don't buy your argument in favor of having Mike Gravel associated with the Paul ticket. Presidential campaigns are made and broken by whether or not the general public considers them credible. As we've seen this season, the general public does not consider Gravel a credible candidate. Sure, he was a Senator 35 years ago, but he went into hiding after that and emerged as a raving lunatic. Regardless of the issues he talks about, he's a terrible spokesperson for them, and people react poorly to him.
Ron Paul, on the other hand, is still considered a credible candidate, in part because of his enthusiastic base. Attaching Gravel to his ticket drains the credibility of it, because it's not Paulites who decide the credibility of a campaign, it's the general public.
Gary Johnson. It's as simple as that. He's the best candidate to accompany Dr. Paul to the general election.
Realistically Speaking...
Keep in mind that in order for the candidate to be credible he needs to have some experience in the political arena. This disqualifies a lot of the suggested candidates who share ideology with Ron Paul (such as the much espoused Walter Williams). Sure, Paul can pick whomever he wants, but if he wants to win he needs to pick a credible partner. And that partner is....
Gary Johnson. The former Governor of New Mexico, Johnson is a mainstream libertarian Republican who was wildly successful during his term of office and remains one of the most popular politicians alive today. He brings executive experience to the ticket, he brings youth to the ticket, and he brings a track record of proven success on issue both right and left voters can identify with.
Tell the Paul campaign that Gary Johnson is his man. Ideally, I'd want Johnson running for the Presidency.

Please be patient. Assuming Dr Paul survives eight years in office (a good chance, given his health and vigor), Vice President Johnson will still be a (relatively) young man in 2016, and the perfect (gold) standard bearer to stay the course. I share your reasoning, having been pimping for Johnson for some time now myself.

If i was to pick Dr. Pauls Running mate,
I would Pick Howard Phillips. He ran for president with the Constitution party for the last 2 elections, and agrees with Dr. Paul more than any other that I can think of.

It doesn't matter whether or not he agrees with Paul more than anybody else. It matters whether or not he's a credible candidate, and Howard Phillips isn't credible. Third party candidacies don't give a person credibility. Holding office gives you credibility. In fact, it's nearly a requirement in order to gain credibility (the only exceptions being extreme wealth/fame, experience as the CEO of a major corporation, or experience as a General).

I'd have to chose Water Williams. He is almost an RP clone. Smart, great speaker, Constitutionalist, oops - black, conservative, friend of RP, respected, overall great choice!

Picking Ron Paul's running mate
My choice would be Jacob G. Hornberger, founder and president of the Future of Freedom Foundation (FFF). He's a generation younger than Ron Paul, is a dynamic speaker, speaks Spanish fluently, lives in Virginia, an avid cyclist.
Google both Jacob Hornberger and Future of Freedom Foundation. You'll find his uncompromising record is almost as long as Ron Paul's.
Hornberger for VP?
Let me start by saying I consider Jacob Hornberger one of my top heros of all time. He is an inspirational speaker, a champion of the messege of liberty, and a highly respected libertarian for many years. However, I do not think he would be a good choice as a running mate for Ron Paul. First, his uncomprimised libertarian positions on everything will certainly cause even many die hard Ron Paul supporters to be uncomfortable. Additionally, he has no experience as an elected public official, which would be a certain turn-off to many people (but not me). As such, unfortunately, I just don't think Jacob would help Ron with garnering votes as much as a better known person.
I would rather see him as an appointed representive, such as a Supreme Court judge, Sectretary of State, Secrertary of Defense (he is a graduate of Virginia Military Institute with an Economics degree and is an accomplished lawyer).

Feingold, Eastwood, Hawkins, Barr, Buchanan, Sowell
The best cross-over running mate would be Russ Feingold, I think. Not perfect, but about as good as you can get.
For a celeb, Clint Eastwood is a libertarian with political experience -- but he might be too old by now, and he might upstage Ron unintentionally.
For an entrepreneur/billionaire type, Jeff Hawkins (creater of the Palm Pilot and the Treo, among other things) has no political baggage I can think of, but I have no idea of how libertarian he is or whether he'd have any interest.
Bob Barr has largely redeemed himself, and Pat Buchanan would really appeal to the most conservative elements of the Republican core.
Finally, for an intellectual, Thomas Sowell would be great -- I think even better than Walter Williams.

I forgot another possibility or two.
If you want a rocket scientist (seriously ;-), Bob Zubrin of the Mars Society is scary smart, and handles a crowd with even more energy than Ron does.
And, though she's also from Texas (usually ruled out for a running mate), Suzanne Gratia-Hupp distinguished herself nicely in the gun rights movement and in the Texas State House.

Gravel, McKinney, Dobbs, Powell, etc. may be similar in their defense of the middle class, their disdain for the PowersThatBe, and for a peaceful foreign policy, but I doubt that Dr. Paul would consider them. I doubt he'd pick a liberal, or a media personality. Not that they aren't great people, it's just that it all comes down to economics, and liberals generally oppose free markets.
I think he will pick a Libertarian or Traditional Conservative statesman who has very similar views on economics first and foremost and and foreign policy second. It all comes down to economics and Ron Paul knows that better than anyone else.

Yeah, I think this is THE crucial point. We have to imagine Ron Paul is gone; what's then left of the revolution? We don't want some hack, CFR, etc type in there. Please, no Obama! Please, no Ralph Nader! Very few D's are going to fit the bill; *maybe* Gravel at a stretch, but age is a problem.
We have to take age into account because best case we will have 8 years of Ron Paul and another 8 of his VP.
I like Jeff Flake, and there must be other good members of Ron Paul's liberty caucus in Congress. Walter Williams is good, except for age. Lew Rockwell is ideal, because they are likely to have to deal with a huge economic crisis and a "President von Mises" is about what we need! I like Pat Buchanan too and he'd bring out the true conservatives to beat Hillary. John Stossel at first glance also looks ideal, great name recognition, looks good and speaks persuasively.

Judge Andrew Napolitano would make a great running mate. I have heard him on Fox news a few times and have always been impressed with his knowledge and analysis of issues in light of the Constitution. He can't be VP with Ron Paul because we need him as a Judge in the Supreme court! I Love Judge Napolitano but he would be better serving this country in the highest court of the land!! Folks look into Richard Maybury. I know no one has heard of him.. I have been a subscriber to his news letter called the early warning report for 15 years. and have read all his books. whatever happened to penny candy, and his best book the 1000 year war. He is a true Libertarian and is just like Ron Paul!

Being Vice President is no disqualification for appointment to the SCoTuS. IF a vacancy were to occur on the bench, Judge Andy could readily resign the office of VP so Pres. Paul could appoint him then. No practical conflict to being VP, but there may still be stronger candidates. Look first at Governors Gary Johnson, Sarah Palin, & Mark Sandford. If they aren't at least ninety per cent with Paul on most critical issues, they should be passed over. Ninety per cent criterion pretty effectively dismisses most other fantasies (Obama Kucinich Gravel? "Give me a break!" )

I think that we can do a LOT better than that.
Few Americans are more opposed to the Iraq war than Ron Paul, but he needs (and deserves) better than a few warmed-over Democrats and media hustlers, most of whom only oppose the war in Iraq because the funding interferes with their socialistic welfare and healthcare schemes!
Lets put our thinking caps on, people. The person whom you suggest will be one heartbeat away from the Presidency in a government whose owners think NOTHING of assassination to gain their ends!!
His running mate might have to continue, and even accelerate the reassertion of Constitutional government in a state of "National Emergency".
His revolution, and OURS, will depend on this!

Chuck Hagel is the only Republican that is worth considering. The idea of a bi-partisan ticket sounds good. If that were the case I'd have to go with Mike Gravel, or Dennis Kucinich, once again, because they are not CFR scumbags, and both want to save the Constitution. Sure, both each have some policies I disagree with, but I think both are sincere in their love for the Constitution.
Outside of government, I like Lou Dobbs too! Jack Cafferty has come around lately as well, (admitted he was wrong on Iraq). It's weird, but as much as I like to bash mainstream media, some MSNBC anchors have been really nice to Ron Paul as well. Tucker Carlson, and Pat Buchanan both like Ron Paul. Joe Scarborough and Mika Brezinski (yeah I know, Zbignew Brezinski's Daughter) have both treated him nicely as well.
I think some MSM anchors may be starting to push back against the way our news is CFR agenda driven. one can only hope.

Ive even emailed Lou and asked him to openly support Dr. Paul. Dobbs is recognized and loved by Americans on both sides of the aisle. There arent many people with the balls to be Dr. Paul or Lou Dobbs. They fight for us. They fight for liberty. They fight for our future.
I thought maybe Buchanan or Gingrich too.. Only because they could help get Dr. Paul votes. Buchanan is a candid guy and Gingrich has chilled out in the past few years. Both are influential politicians. ... And Gingrich could get votes away from Billary.

The late, wonderful Harry Browne would have been the best VP candidate. I do miss him very much! I don't have a belief in an afterlife, but I still find it fun to imagine Harry watching the Ron Paul Revolution and smiling ear to ear.

I am not sure who, but I think the country is ready for a bipartisan ticket. I'm sure RP can find a good pro-constitution Democrat as VP. I think it would greatly improve the chances in the general election.

I just looked at a speech by Mike Gravel and conclude he would be a good match. He probably has a lot more in common with RP than he does with the Democratic mainstream.

I think it would be a noble and strategic brilliance to have a Democrat as a running mate! Now.....who would fit the bill? I do like Colin Powell...met him in high school...went to school with one of his daughters....a fine man. Its just that there are too many Democrats today that are closer to neocons on spending that the balance of foreign affairs and domestic affairs would be counterproductive.
