Smear - The Campaign needs to issue a statement by tomorrow morning

This isnt going to just go away. I hate that many posters here just fluff these charges off after exhibiting such rigour in unearthing information.

TNR

Is James Kirchick TNR's replacement for Stephen Glass?

"Stephen Glass (born 1972) is a former American reporter for The New Republic who was fired for fabricating articles, quotes, sources and events. The story of Glass's downfall is told in the 2003 film Shattered Glass."

Ron Paul responds

Campaign has addressed this issue

The ronpaul2008.com site has a statement addressing this issue.

NHQ issues fabulous statement about amateur TNR hitjob

The NHQ issued a statement this morning about the TNR smear, at 5:28pm:

January 8, 2008 5:28 am EST

ARLINGTON, VIRGINIA – In response to an article published by The New Republic, Ron Paul issued the following statement:

“The quotations in The New Republic article are not mine and do not represent what I believe or have ever believed. I have never uttered such words and denounce such small-minded thoughts.

“In fact, I have always agreed with Martin Luther King, Jr. that we should only be concerned with the content of a person's character, not the color of their skin. As I stated on the floor of the U.S. House on April 20, 1999: ‘I rise in great respect for the courage and high ideals of Rosa Parks who stood steadfastly for the rights of individuals against unjust laws and oppressive governmental policies.’

“This story is old news and has been rehashed for over a decade. It's once again being resurrected for obvious political reasons on the day of the New Hampshire primary.

“When I was out of Congress and practicing medicine full-time, a newsletter was published under my name that I did not edit. Several writers contributed to the product. For over a decade, I have publically taken moral responsibility for not paying closer attention to what went out under my name.”

GO RON PAUL

I am sticking with him. Here is a response to Reason from RP. http://www.reason.com/blo...

He may have to respond more. Hate that it takes him off his message which is exactly the intent of this article and the fodder to follow. Both Dems and the GOP are going after him.

Stand By Your Man.

I don't care about what somebody wrote in a news letter 20 years ago.

Ron Paul is for the individual.

We need to get an African American patient (mother) of the Docs to stand up for the fact that he treated her Pro Bono like he did for so many patients, and was never a bigot.

Anybody close to the Docs family online. Can we get this Idea to Mrs Paul or Rand?

He Is A Racist

In the eyes of everyone right now that does not know about him, Ron Paul is a racist Republican.

He has to fix this openly with confidence, and quick. Otherwise they will have a reason to not invite him to a debate ever again.

my suggestion...

I agree there should be a statement. I would think it a good idea to frame the response in terms of Sen. Allen's "Macaca" moment. I could be wrong, but most of the talk radio hosts really defended him. They said it was a slip, or he did not mean it. Ask for the same benefit of the doubt.
Just a thought...

the worst thing he could do is say

something like "I didn't mean it"....he needs to ATTACK

I agree!

The headline alone is all an undecided voter would need to pass on Dr Paul.

The enemy knows that if enough mud is slung, some of it is bound to stick.

Campaign

should have responded yesterday. There is, after all, an important vote happening today.
