September, 2008: The Republican Convention

Most of us are working hard to ensure that Ron Paul does well in the Primaries. New Hampshire today, Michigan and South Carolina coming up; Super Tuesday on Feb 5th. Others after that.

It's a horse race. Ron Paul, Huckabee, McCain, Romney, and the others are in a contest within a few percentage points of each other. There is no clear front-runner, nor is there likely to be. We will see the Ron Paul campaign grow as more supporters come to our side. This is all to the good.

But the Convention in Minneapolis next September will most likely be an open one. That is, no candidate will have enough delegates to win on the first ballot. I say this because the various camps are strong. We are strong, the Huckabee camp is strong, as is Romney's. So it will go to more than one vote before the Republican candidate is selected.

That is why it is very important to become a Republican delegate from your state to the Convention. You can play a big part in swaying the others to support Ron Paul. He is the only Republican who can beat Obama (or whomever the Democrats put forward). Fretting now about one primary or another is a waste of energy. Working hard, campaigning hard is good, and important. But the Convention will be the place of real decision. That is why you are needed as a delegate from your state. That is our best shot.

Since Ron Paul Predicts the Future

Since Ron Paul predicts the future accurately, he will gain more support as time goes on. He is already a fundraising champ.

I may be a vegetarian, but I'll defend to the death my right to eat pork!

This is simply the "Pre-Season," now comes the actual season!

http://politics.nytimes.c...

Take a look at these from the "delegate" side (which is what we need, not simply voters). Huckabee with his win got 17 delegates, McCain now has a "whopping" 9 as the winner last night. Ron still has 2 from Iowa last week!

Now we're looking at Michigan, "NEVADA" (hello!), South Carolina and Florida that even a "decent" placing could get Ron the spread to make up for these "pre-season" primaries.

This is like saying that a football team who lost their first one or two games has no shot to make it into the playoffs! WAY TOO EARLY for that kind of thinking/talk!

We've known all along that we face a fight at the GOP National Convention, as there is NO clear "front-runner." So let's just strap on our helmets and get ready for the REAL game ahead!!!

Sorry for the football analogies if you're not a sports fan...lol :-)

that's 145 delegates in January

with 1,228 more in the 1st 10 days of February. Look at the NY Times Delegate list--- http://politics.nytimes.c...

So because Ron Paul didn't blow the wad to win the 12 delegates in New Hampshire, you're going to go back to your corner and give up???!! WTF! What planet are you from??!! He needs a majority from 2,345 total. McCain has 9, I guess he's obviously going to win now.

The Dems can throw millions at each State, we can't. We have to use some strategy. If DP is going to turn into a whining crying blog, I'm done. This is just too stupid.

Realx, folks. Early states are overhyped by Old Media

Look at the overall picture here.

In 2007 the focus was build resources: cash, grassroots, positive publicity.

Cash: A
Grassroots: B. Need to improve canvassing and nuts-and-bolts precinct work, most especially getting the word to people and getting them to the polls.
Positive Publicity: B-. Downgrade mainly from Old Media suppression and som bad early TV ads.

that's the past.

Now for 2008.

We opened with IA, NH, MI, FL, SC, NV contests. Discount WY as that was entrenched pro-Bush hacks anyway. The campaign is using these opening contests to gauge what's on the voters' minds. It used to be the war. That worked in 2007. Now it's the economy in 2008. That's the now.

So the strategy now is to hang in there and tailor the message, then UNLOAD for Super Tuesday. I think the reason we haven't seen much from the campaign HQ on where the $20M is going is because they're keeping it under wraps and that's also the main reason they're asking ofr more. That's the future.

OK, so what are they planning? Here's what I hope:
1. Better TV ads. Preliminary production was not too good and needs to be better.
2. Paid newspaper and magazine ads. Damned important and easily overlooked.
3. More radio ads. They aren't bad but can be better.
4. More assertive Dr. Paul in debates. We saw that in the last one and it was good to see the gloves come off more, but they need to come all teh way off. Dr. Paul needs to call these stupid ideas just that--stupid, and then say why. Constitutional platitudes are fine, but practical details are even better. That needs to be the focus for the Short-Attention-Span Theater,

What it comes down to is that he's been letting the other guys tear each other apart, responding to their attacks on him when they come, and biding his time. When his attack comes it will be against 1 to 3 candidates, not 5, and he'll be the one holding all the cash to fire back with while they are broke and tired. It's a simple strategy: let the enemy go nuts wasting energy and resources, absorb and repel as needed, then once they are depleted, counterattack and devastate.

Right now we're in the calm before the storm. Hang in there. Things are about to get interesting.

"Welcome to 2008: The Year of Ron Paul!"

This is vital

It's looking like we've too far to reach to get to enough of the average people on the street right now - they're still listening to the MSM, they're still hearing that Ron Paul doesn't stand a chance of winning the nomination, but this year's nomination will be decided at the convention. The Primaries are only showing that there is not a clear front runner, and the various factions will continue to bicker with each other to the bitter end.

Sure they're pulling in delegates for this, but economics becomes a bigger issue by the day as people feel their wallets lighten for no apprent reason and the vast majority of delegates are not chosen by the primaries and caucuses. What we need to do to win this it to sweep the rug out from underneath them. By filling every available delegate position (and there are many still available) we can be a force at the convention. While they squabble and trash talk each other and prove repeatedly how unelectable each and every one of them is, we can quietly build an army of delegates to fight for our guy at the convention and show them that there is one candidate who doesn't change his policies as often as his underwear and one who can actually save America from the collapse that it is imminently facing. They have thousands of people who will vote for them because they know their name or because they're wearing a nicer tie than the other candidates on some particular day, but they don't have the level of devotion in their supporters that the good doctor has. This is something that even the MSM are united on.

This is something we already have the numbers to do. We should continue to come in between 3rd and 5th in the primaries consistently, continue to get media attention as a candidate who is not going to go away and continue to build his media profile. And then when it's convention time we stand above the bickering few and take it from under their noses.

Live Free or Die - Amen to that

Sorry but we are not strong

Less than 8% in libertarian leaning New Hampshire. About 5% nationally, no political pundit willing to talk about us. I suppose we might do better in Alaska and Idaho, but that's it. It seems strong, because it is way better than the 1% Paul might have received had the revolution not started, but still not competitive.

Plus, The chances of a brokered convention are quite small, plus you forget about all the super delegates, and the weight they carry.

I was excited about Ron Paul...

becoming the president, but as Stephanopolus said, "that's not going to happen."

I am now convinced that Dr Paul never really intended to run a serious campaign. He planned to do pretty much what he did the last time he ran for President. He would run and espouse his beliefs, but not much more. He certaintly would not mount a major nationwide campaign. If he were serious he would have started planning this at least two years ago. And he would have started amassing the mountain of money necessary to run a nationwide campaign (like the Clintons). But he didn't. And now we are all experiencing the frustration of a bush-league campaign (no Bush pun intended)...

But then out of the blue a bunch of people organized themselves on the internet and gave him STACKS of money and support. These people, me included, ASSUMED that he was serious.

He wasn't... at least not until it was already too late to become a serious contender.

I am sure I'll be called a traitor, a jerk, or worse, but this is the situtation. You may not realize it right now, but you will eventually.

My advice is to begin planning for after the election. Will you just melt back into obscurity, or will you take this golden opportunity and begin building a new party for America? Will you just post on the internet, or will you become a PERMANENT precinct committeeman? Will you just wait for the next Ron Paul to come along or will you become a "Ron Paul" yourself right in your own community? Will you run for your school board, city council or state government or will you just continue to complain and do nothing?

Not a traitor

I just think you are a bit let down and disappointed that Dr. Paul's message hasn't turned this country upside down yet.

Of course the Clintons started running for Pres. 2 years ago. They are power-hungry statists of the very first order. Think about where these people's money and power comes from and then ask yourself if you think Dr. Paul would be able to do the same things they do and still have his integrity and message intact.

Your last paragraph was awesome.

South Carolina and NEVADA will be a key day

Let's not count out supporters so quickly. we know what STILL lies ahead...

Delegate competition

We are going to tie up a majority of the delegate slots at our county convention. Let's have a competition to see which county can have the largest percentage of delegates as Ron Paul supporters.

you're on

loser buys the winner a ron paul book or something

Correction: SuperTuesday is February 5th

Just thought I would let everyone know the correct date.

Thanks for looking ahead

That's good advice. Get the word out fast. Think of the good each new supporter will do.

Off topic, but close. All

Off topic, but close.
All Ron Paul supporters, delegates or not, should start planning to be in Minneapolis this September to support Ron Paul in and out of convention venue. For that reason start to make motel/ hotel reservations NOW.
With the swift effort we can "Jam" hospitality business around Minneapolis.
This way, none of the other candidates will be able to bring any supporters.
