Ron Paul, Governor of Texas 2010

We Texan should encourage Ron Paul to run TX governor and have TX declare independence from union. Agree?

As a Californian, I say: How selfish of you!

If anything, we need to get Paul a Senate Seat so that 'Dr. No' can filibuster the daylights out of people.

If I'm remembering

If I'm remembering correctly, Ron Paul discussed this sometime last year and mentioned that his interest is in working on federal government issues. Besides, we do need him or someone like him in Congress.

Basically, if RP wanted to run for governor - I would help to support him financially and I would move to TX from NJ!!!

Debra Medina, as far as I know, is involved with the Campaign for Liberty in TX. So at least if she becomes gov there will be one of us in the TX governor's mansion! We should help support her if she is the CFL candidate in TX.

Momentum is already building

Momentum is already building for Debra Medina the State Coordinator - Texas Campaign for Liberty.
Dr. Paul won't run for Governor and will support Debra.
I'm Smith County, Texas Precinct 26 Chair and we are gearing up as we speak.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong

but I think he is supporting Debra Medina who has just announced for Governor.

It's a great idea.

For one thing, governors make highly electable presidential candidates. Congressmen do not--if Dr. Paul runs for President in 2012, the odds are against him by default, because he isn't a Senator, Governor, or Vice-President.

So if you support the idea of Ron Paul for President in 2012, you should support the idea of a Texas Governor Ron Paul.

Logical fallacy

Kevin, I'm a big fan of your work but I disagree with you here.

Sure, governors have a better chance at winning the presidency (You imply that senators have a decent chance. Actually, they've faired very poorly historically.).

Sure, I support the "idea of a Texas Governor Ron Paul." But that doesn't mean I think he should run. I oppose such a run, because I don't think he can win at this time. Maybe the atmosphere changes in the next year, but I can't see Ron Paul winning a statewide gubernatorial race in Texas. His best chance would be if the field were deeply split (more than four serious candidates), and I don't see that happening. The GOP elite would go to great lengths to prevent Paul from having a chance to win. They'd convince the bigwigs to get behind one candidate.

I would love to see a Paul presidency or governorship, but I have to be realistic. Ron Paul can best serve the movement by being a respected elder statesman and revered figure campaigning for liberty. Our best realistic chance to advance liberty is to continue to watch support/respect for Ron Paul grow, while supporting potential candidates who are in line with our thinking (Republican Sanford, Independent Stossel, etc.). No one will ever be as ideologically acceptable to us as Ron Paul, and we have to deal with that. But we can elect people Ron Paul respects -- and who respect him in turn -- and take great strides forward.

This thread

is a year old...

And it's still a good idea.

This Is Still A Great Idea.

Why not have Ron run for Texas governor. It wouldn't be as stressful and demanding as another presidential run because he would be closer to home and not traveling as much. All the campaign forces could be concentrated in one, very important state. Foreign policy wouldn't even have to be an issue since he'd only be running on domestic/state issues. It would also provide pretext for succession when the Feds try stopping Texas from exercising state rights.

PLUS it sets him up for a

PLUS it sets him up for a more successful presidential bid in 2012, so it improves that option as well.

The Revolution will support him!

Silly Kids......

Tricks are for cowards!

Have some courage. Do you think that Huckabee(False Prophet), Ghoulianni, McInsane, Corportist Romney or dead head fred quit when they didn't come in first. WE vote in november whatever happens. Until then: Don't ask yourself "what are his chances of winning" ask yourself "what are YOU doing to win."

This isn't possible

Someone can't be governor and president at the same time.

Let's keep the freedom train rolling.

Let's keep the freedom train rolling.

Secede..no, nullification yes!

Alright Guys lets face reality, first the bad news. Ron Paul aint gonna be Prez. Now the good news. HE CAN AND SHOULD BE THE GOVERNOR OF TEXAS IN 2010! I love the idea of the free state project, unfortunetly unless Ron and family move there NH ain't ever gonna be free! But Texas can and should be a free state. Ron needs to immediatly announce he is pulling out of the race for president and call all supporters together in Texas for one great, epic battle against the forces of tyranny in the Lone star state. Rand should run and win the seat he vacates upon his governorship along with hundreds of fellow paulites who will run for state house seats along side him! Once we have a plurality in the state house, with Ron as gov, we begin the process of nullifying unconstitutial laws from the federal government. This would be much easier in a state like NH, but again unless Ron is willing to move there and take us with him, than Texas is the our new home. THIS IS THE PLAN! NOW LETS DO THIS SHIT! Freedddooooom!

SHUT IT...

Dude, are you kidding me. Ron Paul isn't gonna be anyone's governor. He's going to be everyone's president. And good job buying into the media's propaganda by the way...

I disagree strongly about

I disagree strongly about pulling out of this race. Huckabee's success in Iowa won't carry him very far. He is broke, and Iowa was mostly evangelicals. McCain's success in New Hampshire won't carry him far, either. He is also broke, and New Hampshire was mostly undeclared voters.

Evangelical voters from a subsidized state and undeclared voters from a state that is notoriously hard to peg. That is who has weighed in thus far. There still has not been an expression of preference from true conservative Republicans.

Expect Thompson to improve in future states, but he is also hurting for money. Romney will likely be the man to beat, and Paul has a superior record as a small-government fiscal-conservative. And he's rolling in cash.

We're just getting warmed up!

I'm down.

Sure, why not, we have a fight brewing at our sothern border anyway.

Nature of the Union

This is a Union of States.

If we want the Constitution to be enforced, it will be up to the States, not the people or the President or Congress, or the Courts to do it.

We tried unsuccessfully about 160 years ago to accomplish this, maybe we can get it right this time.

The path to success lies in the antithesis of a strong central national government - state government.

I say we convert this movement to focus on local and state races throughout the land and restore power to where it belongs.

Ron Paul loses votes because of New Republic article?

A carefully timed and crafted hit-piece today in the New Republic accuses Dr. Paul of being an extreme racist with ties to throwbacks who belong on Mars. The headline is "Angry White Man."

Dr. Paul has replied to these empty attacks on his web site.

It has happened

Texas

Go back to your history books. Texas was known as the Republic of Texas before asking to become a part of the USA. It still holds documents to most likely return its roots back into the Republic of Texas. Do some studying on the subject to find out.

Forget Texas, it's all about NH

Ron Paul should move to New Hampshire as part of the Free State Project and run for NH governor. Come to think of it, you all should come to NH as part of the Free State Project. Imagine moving every Ron Paul supporter into a single state. It's possible: www.freestateproject.org

Don't forget Wyoming. That

Don't forget Wyoming. That group split off from the NH group over differences of opinion on the most feasible location. If you research the background story you'll find that the Wyoming faction had a very compelling case for making the split.

Either way, it's a start!

yeah but

I heard about this a few years ago. Isn't it supposed to be a libertarian minded state? Well what happened?

The ignorance of the Electorate

McCain is a professional politician. He marries rich women, never runs a business, and has hardly ever seen the world other than outside of a Washington office.

The "Live Free or Die' state is now the "Die or Live Free" state.

Well to be fair, the FSP

Well to be fair, the FSP folks are just a drop in the bucket. A few thousand voters at best.

As to NH in general, I think they're more independent than libertarian. Which basically means they prefer to sit on the fence and vote for whichever candidate appeals to them, without affiliating with any party. You can't fault them for that. In fact you really have to admire them for it. This time I guess they just preferred Clinton/Obama and McCain/Romney. I'm not sure what happened. I had really high hopes, too.

I guess we'll have to beat 'em in Michigan!

YES

Secede TEXAS! Hope for us at least. We have enough room for all the Paul supporters!

You have not experienced Texas

If you have ever felt Texas...you would not miss the mountains.

I down with secession. But, I don't think the new residents which have moved to Texas over the last 20 years will go along with the idea.

There does need to be an Texas independence movement even if it is not secession but a reassertion of our rights and self determination.

new Texas Constitution

This can be the new Texas Constitution...needs 176 counties to ratify it.

Only 176

Where does this stand. Are we going to get to vote anytime soon?

I love this idea

Though I won't endorse it until at least February 6th. I plan on moving down to Texas and would be willing to work for him until I can join him in congress.

Hmmm

I wonder if this is legal?

Yes, actually, Texas is one

Yes, actually, Texas is one of the few states that joined by its own choice and retained the right to withdraw at its pleasure. Each year they go through the motions of remaining a part of the union. Sort of like Scotland and England.

Yes, but only if he promises

Yes, but only if he promises to then secede from the Union and be our first President!

Texan for Ron Paul

I would be happy with Ron Paul King of Texas

Yeah right

I think Ron Paul should run as governor or senator, but if you tried to succeed he would be put in jail in 2 seconds flat.
