OUTSIDE THE BOX THEORY for advertising RON PAUL

** I know this is long, but please skim through, (at least to the last 3rd of it) **

I have a few things I would like to say.

First of all is a quote from a reader on DailyPaul.com.

Here's what I've seen in my area. It's a rural area where most people get their news from TV and not from the internet.

Many on this forum don't seem to realize what it's like to live outside the metro areas: Areas where the only internet option is dial-up....No such thing as DSL in most areas here. A few have somewhat faster connection via satellite but that's not much better; either way those potential voters will not be able to watch all of those cool videos online; no fact-checking, no poll watching, nothing at all.. They will have no clue as to a candidate's positions other than what they hear on MSM. Bottom line: These folks use their computers basically for the occasional email check. They spend NO significant amount of time online. I know large groups of people that don't even own a computer and these people vote regularly.

This is where the real work starts. Blogging and voting in online polls does NOT win these people...hell, it doesn't even get their attention. They don't know we're here!!. Someone must actually TALK to them, face to face, with maybe some literature or a DVD in hand. I've been doing this, but I'm only 1 person. I've registered people to vote. I've signed up as a Pct Capt with the campaign and will work every day at contacting those voters in person. But it will take WAY more active supporters to get this done.

Hats off to those in IA and NH that got out there and did the hard work. I know the results weren't what we wanted, but I think it's a learining opportunity for all of us. Here's the lesson: If we want to win, we will NOT win it with our online activities; The message must be taken out into our precincts in person, door-to-door, one by one.

Good luck to us all.
- sistagirl86 (http://www.dailypaul.com/...)

Sistagirl86 is absolutely correct, we need a way to get Ron Paul's name and message out to the people who don't rely on the internet for news.

For an example, just yesterday, I took the audio from the forum that Ron Paul held in New Hampshire when PhoxNews snubbed him out of a seat at the debate, and I created an audio CD to send specifically to my grandfather. Now to get an idea of where I’m coming from, he is a retired lawyer, and has some very specific political views, but when I went down there for Christmas vacation, he, nor any one else I had spoken to had any clue who Ron Paul was. Knowing that my grandfather has no knowledge in use of the internet, I created the CD for him, so he could listen in the car. (I broke it up into tracks and can host it if anyone is interested).

This was just one way to get the message out, I know my grandfather will appreciate what Ron Paul has to say, and once he sees what is going on, he will join the revolution, but thats only one person. We need quite a few more.

We need to find new methods of reaching people such as my grandfather, people with no access to the internet, people who's only source of news is the mainstream media. As we RP supporters all know, we are going to get any help from the MSM.

This idea itself proposes a problem. We need to get people to listen. I know that before I had heard of Ron Paul, I didn't give a damn about politics. To me every politician was the same, so therefore I didn't care. Which I think is the main problem with society today, no one knows any different, so they don't care, which causes them not to listen.

The internet changed things for me, though. It made it easy for me to give Ron Paul a shot. But, not everyone has that luxory as Sistagirl86 stated, so we'll need to find alternative methods to get the message out. I don't see flyers, pamphlets, or signs really helping all that much, other than a bit of name recognition. I know that I, personally, would just throw them out without giving them the time of day (before finding Ron Paul). We need another method. I have a few ideas, but I know we can come up with more ideas.

I think it is safe to say that a majority of Ron Paul supporters became as passionate as they are after watching videos on sites like YouTube. YouTube is not accessible for people without the internet. So we need to find a substitute, and as far as I can see it seems like TV is the only real substitute. Which is something that we all know well that we are going to get no help with from the News, so we should probably look elsewhere.

I was really inspired by what Jay Leno did when he had RP on his show (the day after the PhoxNews Debate). I think we need to get more people who actually have a voice to the people of America to support him. I know that Howard Stern is backing him, which is an excellent start, but I think we need the people on RP's staff to start contacting people and asking that if they support Ron Paul could they help the campaign out. Now I understand, this is much easier said than done, but I truly believe that there are a lot of famous people that would fully back Paul. And knowing that they have the chance to make a huge difference, I think a lot of "stars" would be willing to help him out. Do what Leno did, and what Howard is doing.

Who ever made the rules that we have to follow in the footsteps of all the other candidates (past and present) when it comes to advertising? I think that a new method should be looked at. The internet was a start, and has been absolutely amazing in spreading the word, but we need more. We need backing from famous people.

I know this is an outside-the-box theory, but I truly believe that this could work. Not to mention that it could theoretically be free. If I was famous, and an RP supporter, I would without a doubt be doing all I could to help him.

Is anyone else with me on this? I know I wrote a super long post, and probaly rambled on quite a bit, but I think this is important, and I think you will understand my point that I'm trying to make.

Thank you for your time.
I will be posting this on various sites.

Advertising

Undoubtedly, getting some famous names to publicly support Ron Paul would help draw attention to his campaign.

I recall reading that the campaign was not advertising on daytime television in Iowa and New Hampshire leading up to the caucus/primary there. Now, we all know the kind of advertising daytime TV draws, so it makes sense that Dr. Paul would not want his message mingling with the likes of accident lawyers and the such.

On the other hand, daytime TV advertising can be a relatively cheap way of reaching an audience. Consider just one demographic in that audience, unemployed workers. There is a demographic ripe for the Ron Paul picking. I think his campaign should reconsider this self-imposed blackout from daytime TV advertising. I think most Ron Paul supports would agree, even sandwiched between two sleazy lawyer ads in a commercial block during an epsiode of Jerry Springer, the Good Doctor's image would be tarnished.

Remember what was said about

Remember what was said about Jefferson county Iowa where Ron Paul won. They had been running pro-rp ads in newspapers there for quite some time, and it apparently reached enough people to give a win to RP there. I believe we need to run good ads in newspapers throughout all upcoming primary states to help the voters understand RP's powerful message.
Btw, the best print ad I've seen so far has been the full page ad Larry Lepard ran in USA Today. That ad rocked!

I was quoted above.....Our

I was quoted above.....Our group is now working on getting newspaper ads in some of the newspapers and other local publications. No way we can afford to run it every week, but we'll do what we can.

That, in addition to direct mail and door-knocking.

Lack of MSM coverge is killing us here.....The general public just believes that if they haven't seen him on TV, he's not legit.

We will continue the fight.

thanx

i was actually just told yesterday by a friend of mine that "ron paul is a joke." and I 100% believe that it for the exact reasons you say.

I can't, right now, get into the million reasons why MSM is just awful, and how bad it is for us, but I will say that we do need find other methods. Just avoid MSM all together. Find new and inventive ways to spread the message to the people.

Keep the ideas coming..

TV matters Tears on TV swung NH. RP won't cry, we need this AD.

repost:

RP can still own the economic issue, and it's of number 1 concern to the people you speak of according to polls. Women and seniors especially, some of us have been screaming it for months.

If they knew their children and grandchildren were quite literally going to live in a bankrupt country in 2030, Dr. Paul would be vaulted to the top tier. David Walker of the GAO (I’ve written on this several times before) has made it clear that America has “fiscal cancer.” .

My team has been ready to begin production on an ad that was conceived, written and story-boarded by us in Dec. It has a special message that differentiates the Doc as the only fiscally responsible candidate in either party.

We retained studio time for this ad, a professional voice-over woman, and a graphics designer. But until we confirm that HQ or grassroots can/will buy airtime for good ads, we are holding off production, because another YouTube piece will not help Dr. Paul.

If you can bring something to our team, read more here, sooner the better, and contact me:

That's what I like to see,

That's what I like to see, some people trying to get out to those who don't have the internet.

I am sure what you are shooting for is costly, but it something that needs to be done.

Do you know how much you're looking for?

The big cost is paying the

TV stations for the spot placement. Either RP-HQ or a Grassroots chip-in has to do that.

For my team's ad, I could use $300 for production and I'll kick in the other $700 myself.

-JP

I don't know anything about

I don't know anything about the pricing of TV ads, but I'm sure enough money could be put together as long as the ad was good, and the channels to be placed on were reputable as well.

I could help you with creating a site to raise money if we got some numbers. And if you had some other vids or anyting to show the quality of your work and all that. So people have an idea of what they are donating for.

You know what I mean?

The ad buys are monstrous Dave, bigger markets coming up,

and the key will be whether there is a "secret plan" as the thread going around DP today says, and Rp-HQ has millions his saving to spend late this month. Stay tuned, JP

Very true

A buddy of mine just came back from visiting family in Iowa and they had no clue who Ron Paul is. I called my family up in Montana and they had no clue, now they do. Unfortunately they are die hard Democrats so there is no luuck in changing thier minds A final test was asking my parents out in Cali ( who don't vote at the national level) and they hadn't even heard of them. But damn if they hadn't heard of everybody else. I know the media is biased but as you stated we have to play by those rules.

I am curious I haven't seen any news coverage of Ron Paul actually getting out in diners or going to town hall events in Iowa or New Hampshire. I though it was kind of interesting how some candidates rolled up to peoples houses and sat down and had a non-on-one with them. Has Ron Paul done this? I know in past threads people from Iowa said Ron Paul needed to do more boots on the ground work himself, getting out there and meeting the people of Iowa.

Thanks for any insight.

I don't know enough to say

I don't know enough to say yes or no, but my guess would be that he did do just that, but of course the news wouldn't ever let us know about things like that.

I like this

I like the idea of fanning Ron Paul using the common viaducts that people are tuning in to. The advertising coops are a great example of this. The bumper stickers and window signs etc.

Mailers, tv and radio, print, phone banks etc.

Does anyone here own a phone company?? could you use it to autodial the entire USA and have it working for the next several years all day long every day?

I love the pulling of resources "collective individualism" or panarchy is a beautiful thing. People individually sorting themselves into like minded groups all working toward a common goal with their own resources in ways that they see beneficial.

it's not enough...

I just think that mailers, print, bumper stickers and window signs are not enough. Don't get me wrong, they are great for name recognition, once you know who he is, but we are trying to get to the people who don't know who he is.

Maybe I'm alone on this, but from personal experience, I know that I wouldn't give a damn about some mailer I got. It would go right in the garbage. Especially if I didn't recognize the candidate.

I think we need a new way, like getting celebs to back him, or just people who have a much louder voice (figuratively). Howard Stern is the perfect example, I know during his days before satellite radio, he was a huge antibush activist, and would talk about it constantly, hopefully he does the same with RP. We need more people like him backing him, getting his name out, I know that if I was a Stern fan and he kept talking about him, I would check him out. Not to mention the fact that Stern will address the MSM issues that RP faces. Thus making people understand why they can't find RP.

Maybe just my thoughts..

how can we get a copy of that cd

thanks
