NPR Hit Piece
I just turned on the radio. Talking about New Republic smear on Congressmen Paul. "Day-to-Day with Alex Chadwick.
It's making my stomach turn. Unbelieveable bias. We have an affiliate here in New York State. Boycott this propaganda machine.
I will never turn on my public radio again.
There are a million listeners to this program.
The media is terrified of this man!
They show it with stuff like this.

Here a hit piece for ya'll
http://www.youtube.com/wa...
here's some background:
These guys are professional smear artists:
(make sure to read the 'controversies' sections)
TNR editor in chief, Martin Peretz:
http://en.wikipedia.org/w...
TNR editor Franklin Foer:
http://en.wikipedia.org/w...
TNR writer, Jamie Kirchick (who supports giuliani), was key in spreading the $500 donation 'scandal':
http://blogs.tnr.com/tnr/...
http://gays-for-ron.blogs...
and there's more, but i'm tired of reading about them. it's grossing me out.
These hit pieces don't bother me any more.
If you have been observing politics for as long as I have...YOU SEE THROUGH IT ALL!!!! Get the message out!!!!
NRP is Government-Sanctioned Propaganda
I had already posted on how I worked for a non-profit radio station and we had to pay NPR thousands of dollars a year to be an affiliate just to avoid lawsuits.
Seriously, we never aired their programming, but because our political programming was "controversial" we had to be an affiliate as an "insurance policy".
Because people would threaten to call the FCC saying our station should be NPR. We were able to say: Hey, we are an NPR affiliate. Then they just shut up.
Major waste of money, but it's worked for decades.
I may be a vegetarian, but I'll defend to the death my right to eat pork!
Find the author of that newsletter
Clearly the author of this troublesome 'article' must be tracked down and interviewed. Exposing the real origin of the racist comments would go miles toward ending this annoyance.
Considering the rest of the media has greater resources at their disposal, isn't it odd that NONE of them have tried to suss this out and provide the truth of the matter.
Are you telling me that absolutely no one knows who wrote this thing?
Congratulations to our illustrious "free press".
Okay, I need to say my peice about this
First of all, Here is my comment I made on the tnr site:
I think that it is crazy to think that a small subscription based 'zine (remember 'zines) could not get past Dr. Paul. That is all these things are. They are subscriptions. It is highly probable that Ron Paul did not know this shit was going on. I mean, the guy did run for President of the US in 1988. You mean to tell me that AFTER that he published this shit.
I could possibly accept the 1978 issue and maybe the 1986 issue as those seem official. But the infomercial letter? Come on? The signature does not even match.
Furthermore, the 1986 and the 1978 LOOK official. Many of the rest are simply typed on an IBM Selectomatic or whatever those typewriters were called. (See 1994) I mean, for $99 a year one would expect that the zine would at least be printed at a printing press instead of a "ditto" machine.
It is obvious to me that if RP could publish a real newsletter in 1986 (by real I mean "professional looking" for lack of better words) that by 1994 he would probably not resort back to using a toy of a typewriter and a copier. I would even go so far as to defend what he said in the 1978 and the 1986 issues, because he is simply distrustful of government and big business. History and many of our own life experiences have shown that we all should be at least somewhat distrustful of government and big business. Show me anyone that is not.
Read the Man's books from 1987. This stuff could not be further from the truth of Dr. Paul.
With as many supporters as Ron Paul has had over the past 30 some odd years and the mentioned 100,000 subscribers, you would think that it would have been easier to find these than going to the Libraries at the University of Kansas and the Wisconsin Historical Society. I mean, surely not all of the 100,000 subscribers were a bunch of brainless backwoods bigots. Right?
All these years and no one stood up to say "You know what? That guy used to mail me a shitload of hate speech." "Perhaps I will call my local paper and tell them" I am sure they thought "Let's wait for James Kirchik to track them down all over the country and "break" the story the day of the New Hampshire primaries in 2008" instead of simply making the call themselves.
I find the whole thing a bit far fetched. Even if it is all true, (I have read it all) I do not think that, given the context of the times they were written, they are all that bad. (I, however, am not easily offended.)
One last thing, Instead of this whole thing bringing us down, we should realize that this is how powerful the idea of Freedom is. It is so powerful that even the ideas purported in these 'zines are both protected, and allowed. Furthermore, Dr. Paul's messages are so important that someone else WOULD and DID use his good name to send this kind of stuff out to subscribers. Freedom is a powerful thing indeed.
Oh man... the name of the
Oh man... the name of the game is Frame Control... once the media gets it into ints inferiority complex ridden little head that it controls the frame, it eats you alive with distortions, exaggerations, helf truths, innuendoes...
They want to see if you wimp out or if you eat fire and keep marching.
okay, normally I wouldn't comment on a post like this
but I know it's going to bounce around on the front page for awhile, so I might as well add my two cents.
So here's what I've been thinking...
MAYBE THIS IS JUST WHAT WE HAVE BEEN LOOKING FOR!
i know that sounds absolutely crazy. but the media is FINALLY paying attention to Dr. Paul. And you know the old adage that no publicity is bad publicity, right? right. keep following me now.
NPR is going to have to have someone from the campaign on to talk about this. and they might bring it up during the upcoming debate (i hope so). We've all seen Dr. Paul knock it out of the ballpark before. We've watched people try to twist his words and attack him. We know he's a fighter... we've seen him fight for truth his whole career.
I have trust that Dr. Paul can handle this issue. People have tried to smear him in the past and he has come back. As distasteful as it is to discuss things like racism in a public forum, Ron Paul could potentially take this time to talk about the issue in a constructive way and create a dialogue.
It has been taboo to talk about race for so long that people are afraid to bring it up. If Ron Paul shows that he is not afraid and that he can discuss this issue in a more real and complex way than any of his opponents then the ball will be in his corner.
I personally, would love to see this happen. If the cards play out right this could be exactly what we need to catapult the campaign. If Ron Paul can use this face time to speak eloquently about an issue that others run away from it will show strength and intelligence.
Feel free to tell me if I'm crazy. I'm just trying to find the positive in this situation.

Martin Peretz, owner of the New Republic and funder of
Hillary really hurt Paul yesterday. It was a typical
Peretz thing to do - smear someone as a “homophobe”
and “racist” the day of the election. The New
Republic’s Jamie Kirchick ludicrously claimed that Ron
Paul personally called Martin Luther King a “gay
pedophile,” and other outlandish claims he later
retracted as mere gossip.
A very similar thing happened in Somerville on the eve
of the vote about whether or not city funds should be
invested in Israel or locally - in order to make it
sound more “controversial” than the issue really was,
all the neocon pundits went crazy, making up stories
about how I am a supporter of the local investment
movement and I’m a homophobic terrorist supporter that
hangs out with David Duke. This is a common tactic. It
makes you seem really “scary” to liberals. Liberals
whose vote we were counting on.
If the American people can’t get beyond the
“homophobic” smear in order to save their country,
America probably deserves to be crushed like a bug
quite frankly. People act exactly like insects.
Running around doing what “they” expect, never
thinking.
We have to be prepared in advance. I mentioned a
couple weeks ago the Zionist press is going to do
this. Dr. Paul needed a pre-emptive attack - a
statement on how his program is best for Blacks and
Gays. As we all know, there is no difference between
Huckabee and Hillary when it comes to AIPAC issues.
This game is a distraction. But there is a comeback.
Is Dr. Paul a racist? No, Dr. Paul WILL SET YOU FREE.
We need to emphasize his prison release program and of
make sure people realize that Hillary and Obama are
NOT going to end war, they want new wars. Ron Paul is
the Black Man’s Best Friend. He is going to bring your
sons home from the war and release all non-violent
drug offenders from prison his first day in office, he
said.
Ron Paul has more Black supporters than any other
Republican candidate and more active US military
personnel supporters than any other candidate.
The issue is not which candidate will win or lose. The
real issue is are we going to lose our country?
Americans are such sheep. If we don’t somehow teach
our friends to mistrust the media and double check
everything, that’s it for USA.
The sad part is that Dr. Paul was polling at 17% but
then a lot of those people went to vote Democratic
because they were embarrassed by the homophobic racist
smear that was circulated on the internet. It is true
that there was reportedly voter fraud. The hand count
of the votes puts Dr. Paul at 15% not 8% as the
newsmedia erroneously reported. But that still means
he lost 2% of the expected vote and all of the
fence-sitters who could have put him above 20% just
because of this typical Jewish smear tactic that was
coordinated and planned to not give Ron Paul time to
answer the accusations before the election.
Dr. Paul will not be counted as a winner unless he
wins by an overwhelming landslide. Even then, the
neocons might send in the National Guard to prevent
him from taking office, except the Guard is in Iraq.
(How convenient.) What happens next? No country in the
world knows what the next step is, how to get free.
The question is, how much longer will Americans fall
for these tricks?
RON PAUL’S RESPONSE
Ron Paul has already responded to these ridiculous
accusations and slammed them as political haymaking to
coincide with the New Hampshire primary.
“The quotations in The New Republic article are not
mine and do not represent what I believe or have ever
believed. I have never uttered such words and denounce
such small-minded thoughts.
In fact, I have always agreed with Martin Luther King,
Jr. that we should only be concerned with the content
of a person’s character, not the color of their skin.
As I stated on the floor of the U.S. House on
April 20, 1999: `I rise in great respect for the
courage and high ideals of Rosa Parks who stood
steadfastly for the rights of individuals against
unjust laws and oppressive governmental policies.’
This story is old news and has been rehashed for over
a decade. It’s once again being resurrected for
obvious political reasons on the day of the New
Hampshire primary.
When I was out of Congress and practicing medicine
full-time, a newsletter was published under my name
that I did not edit. Several writers contributed to
the product. For over a decade, I have publicly taken
moral responsibility for not paying closer attention
to what
went out under my name.”
[We invite readers to share their views on Mr.
Kirchick’s article by e mailing him at
james.kirchick@gmail.com.]
Dr. Paul has an honest opinion. The neo-liberals have
think tanks working night and day doing marketing
analysis and using psychology to turn the public away
from Dr. Paul. There are Israeli/neocon spies that
keep tabs on every political activist in Boston and do
write-ups about them in Jerusalem, and meet with the
local & Israeli government about how to neutralize
them. In Palestine they just use a laser gun if
someone starts telling the truth. In America they
character assassinate more often. Like we have any
importance whatsoever. They flew the mayor of
Somerville to talk to Ariel Sharon about how to
silence eleven Boston responsible investment
activists.
Basically how the Lobby won it (and it was a close
race, 45 to 55%) was they made a bunch of slick
posters with Deval Patrick’s face on it, AND they
released a number of news reports and commentaries
that totally twisted the positions and arguments of
both sides, so that the average voter would be
confused about what they were voting for or against.
They also used a lot of psychological pressure
labeling people as “racists” “anti-Semites” etc. so
that the people who would normally support the ballot
initiative got scared away.
These people are very serious about not wanting Dr.
Paul’s voice to be heard and they don’t want him to
win. But they always use the same tactics.
If they don’t succeed in turning Dr. Paul’s name into
mud, they will turn on the organizers of the movement.
It’s going to go on and on and we have to strategize.
Is there a strategic planning wing of the People for
Paul movement?
Someone needs to own his words, even if it hurts personally
http://www.wendymcelroy.c...
Wendy's right. This person needs to show the courage to say "I wrote that." So far, he hasn't, and aside from Wendy very few people seem to be asking "why?"
JMR
No one would believe a confession
Well maybe a few truthers.
Wendy seems to think
The name is widely-known anyway. I won't speculate, but I do wish this person would show the intellectual honesty, if not the character, to do the right thing. The problem is, if speculation is correct, it's still a problem because the suspect still seems to be involved with the campaign. The current situation is untenable, IMO. Chances are good for tough questions tonight for Dr. Paul. Unless this person chooses to delurk or Dr. Paul chooses to "out" him, the issue is likely to continue...
JMR
So...sick of this gossip...
You people are harming RP!!!!!
So sick of this gossip...that is all it amounts to.
STOP!!! You need to be flagged off this board.
Let me get this straight....
It hurts Ron Paul to want to expose the actual writer of the racist stuff which, sadly, was published under Ron Paul's name??
Is it positive, fun stuff? No. I'd rather talk about how much I loved Mrs. Paul if I'm being positive, or how stupid the campaign is being NOT to take advantage of the Howard Stern opportunity we saw this week if I'm doing "constructive criticism." I want Ron Paul to win. That means this person needs to admit what he did to us and quit hiding his words behind Ron Paul's name.
Go ahead. Flag me if you think that harms Dr. Paul. But can you please explain your "logic"?? This story WON'T go-away until the WHOLE truth comes-out, and that whole truth includes not just what Dr. Paul admitted up-front, it eventually also includes the actual bigot's name. I'd shed no tears if Dr. Paul outed the perp tonight, but obviously that's not gonna happen.
JMR
sorry to hear this
This is such a great reminder that things we say today can follow us into the future.
I hope this is dealt with quickly and firmly. Unlike what MediatorMPA thinks, this will simply not go away because he/she wishes it away. Every time Dr. Paul starts making inroads, it will be de rigeur in the MSM to bring it up. It's so sad for someone as idealistic as Dr. Paul to be facing this now.
I just wonder...
How the person who is doing this feels about what's going on. Yeah, the campaign's getting heat. He's not, unless Wendy counts. But how must this person feel now about hiding his past bigotry behind the only libertarian campaign in any of our lifetimes with a snowflake's chance in hell at winning? It can't be fun. And at this point, not coming clean is probably doing as much damage as the words themselves.
I wish by saying something idiotic & sexist like "dude, _Wendy's_ got bigger balls than you!" I could make this guy delurk and say "I did it," but this person -- who must have known this day was coming when Reason magazine first covered the racist-newsletters issue last May -- is keeping mum. It's sad.

Try not to break anything.
This is not helpful...
Every time you comment run this around, you are advertising TNR.
Angry calls---damage, not benefit.
Its been reported to HQ--stop advertising it here.
Let this thread die.
This is self-interest
What do you think happens to the budget line item funding NPR if Ron Paul is elected President. That's right, gone. Expect as many hit pieces on NPR and PBS as necessary to weaken and eliminate Paul.
interview
I heard 1minute of the interview..... Let's see they called him a homophobe, a racist, and that Ron Paul was obsessed with MLK's sex life. It was also mentioned that RP called MLK a pedophile. That is alot of slander in 1 minute. Contact NPR now!
Please keep this post bumped...
even though we all know the situation behind the newsletter's 99% of America doesn't. ALOT of people listen to NPR and figure them to be an unbiased source of news. The claims made in this interview have been discussed/cleared up (whatever you want to call it) before by Dr. Paul and for NPR to conduct this interview without checking some facts first is just a disgrace, please contact them and let them know how wrong it was.

Why don't you summarize what
Why don't you summarize what was said. We can't waste all of our time trying to put out "smears" and fires every 10 seconds. If it's not a pack of lies, I'm not interested in hearing it.
I didn't hear the interview but it was with Kirchick
Here is the info about the interview straight from NPR's site:
January 10, 2008 · As Ron Paul campaigns for the Republican nomination, his involvement in an ultra-conservative newsletter is being questioned. Some of those newsletters contain racially charged material and rants about gays. Alex Chadwick talks to New Republic reporter James Kirchick who wrote an article about the newsletters.
The interview has already taken place at this time (I did not hear) but I cant imagine he said anything truthful.
Sorry
Just go to NPR, "Day to Day."
I'm not too computer savvy.
It's real.
I'm not used to talking so fast.
I just contacted HQ and made them aware of the interview
Hopefully they understood the need to get someone on NPR immediately to counter the claims.
NPR Blows
Its really disconcerting too, cause I used to listen and think they were unbiased. But then they ignored Ron Paul on everything. So I called them up and said I identified with alot of his issues and Juan Williams said Dr. Paul would never get elected because he's too iconoclastic.
So we got the Kristols (neo cons) and the Williams (Demoslugs) each after Dr. Paul. Please tell me how can people still sponsor this anti american drivel?
NPR unbiased, LOL
this is a big government promo outlet....it sorta happens when you get all your financial support from government agencies and politicians.
NPR has many times happily joined in with whatever TNR trash is published. I can't believe you think they are unbiased.
National Public Radio
Like Sesame Street and Mr. Rogers, right? Yeah, I get it they're biased, I just thought they were liberally biased, like the free health care for everyone biased, happy sunshine rainbow biased. Not the slandering, lying, warmongering bias of FOX News.
I guess NPR should stand for National Public Refuse. Anyone got any better ones?

Nobody heard the interview
yet you all want to call and complain? Does this really help Ron Paul, what are you going to say when you can if you haven't even heard the interview. Maybe someone addressed the issue from RPs point of view? OK, I know its NPR, so its probably biased, but if you are going to call and complain maybe you should have specific reasons so you dont come across as fanatical RP supporter, you know the kind the media like NPR would love to do a story on once you all start calling in to complain about an interview you didnt even hear.
IGNORE it like MSM ignores US
..Thiose comments REALLY do not even deserve ANY responses. Let hem babble on. We can't fight the MSM. We need to talk to individuals. STOP being affected by MSM bullshit! GEEZE. Stop voting in their polls. STOP commenting on their blogs! Boycott all this crap. ADD no more fuel to the fires. This forum is getting really to be a DOWNER. JUST like "THEY" want. Don't buy into it. NO commenting nor even acknowledging them. It is so stupid. IGNORE IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I am getting sick of the babies on this forum.
