He put a statement on his official campaign website and gave two nationally aired interviews to discredit the story. He has already answered the questions. Put it to bed.
Stay on message ... which we all know he will do ... and nothing but positive results will come of this. Look, the media is frightened of the message! A true revolution is taking place and they know it. In fact as the campaign grows expect even more attacks.

No, I don't see no gift here. I can see how one newsletter like that might slip out, but how do several get out with those messages. Has this been answered? Once the first one slipped out, RP should of stopped the newsletter or made sure what was on subsequent ones. This is going to be bad.

This is the age of desktop publishing - I could, without your permission, write a "frankmcs" newsletter. I could put anything in it that I wanted to. I don't have to send you a copy, and if we are talking about a small circulation, it's likely that you would never see it.
The point is, this is just a distraction. There are much more important issues to talk about.

If my name was on something, the first time I would learn about it, heads would roll. I'd shut it down if need be. CNN quoted from editions in 1992 and 1995, three years later and not all THAT long ago in my book.
I know we're going against the grain on the website, and I'm trying to minimize this myself, but I just didn't think his explanation of how this continued was all that convincing.

Let's assume that Dr. Paul did write these. I don't think so, but let's assume it because others are going to assume it, too, and please follow me on this for a moment.
Would someone please tell me where a politician's long term beliefs have to be etched in stone and frozen in time?
I don't mean the daily pandering flip-flopping for votes that we see from the other candidates. I mean beliefs over years.
If Dr. Paul had said or written this stuff on this campaign or in the past few days or weeks then there would be a story here and real cause for concern.
But that isn't what happened. This was a decade ago.
If Dr. Paul wrote this stuff a decade ago and has changed his views for the better, then that's something we should applaud and point out that he has changed his views for the better based on better knowledge, experience, and wisdom. IOW, he has become a better person.
THAT'S how we educate the public on this if they are going to assume him guilty, even though the evidence is very weak: We send the message that we don't think he did it, but if he did, then he has shown he has grown and improved beyond those bad beliefs. The ability to get and do better in life is an admirable trait, and we advertise that to show the good doctor has enough character and sense to grow. Make it a positive.

It gives air time to Paul's message about individuality as in comparison to group identity. Our society is so imprinted upon group identity. So reliant on it.

But I have learned to pay close attention when someone is labeled a racist or anti semite as usually a blanket insult designed to deflect a larger message.
More often than not when you read into the accused philosophical view points you find that it has nothing to do with racism or anti semitism.
I believe that there is a lot of people who do the same.

She knows what is going on but will not say. I don't know anything but I will tell you that i have been reading LRC for the past 5 years religiously every morning. this whole story is bumming me out. It's not good for Paul and i am a big fan of LRC, its authors, and the mises institute.
So, yes, I am reading it and I am troubled by all of it. I don't think Wendy is trying to bring anybody down. She is interested in the truth. she is also a blog poster and an author at LRC.
Until there's a name
Whether it's Lew Rockwell or someone else, the only name on this will be Ron Paul's until this guy steps forward. It's time for whoever has that name to admit to his words if they're his, even if it makes his life unpleasant for a while. Trying to keep it quiet will keep the issue going, and that truly WON'T be any sort of gift. Jesse Jackson survived "hymietown," and he can survive this.

Did you just see CNN? I'm not talking about Wolf's interview. It just aired a few minutes ago 7:20 CST.
To paraphrase the talking head: Here's what Ron Paul said about Blacks (sotto voce, supposedly) 10 years ago. Reads the clip about riots and welfare. Here's what Ron Paul told Wolf Blitzer: and it's the clip cut to make Ron Paul sound like Bart Simpson.
Another thought, talking about releasing Black criminals (any criminal, really)--whether they deserve to be in jail or not--is really not going to play well with the GOP base. Especially when the other candidates are former prosecutors or played them on TV. Talking about intrusions into Liberty in the name of the War on Drugs, maybe.
Hate to rain on the parade.
PS--that's not to say I believe the good doctor wrote any of it or believes any of it. I think his life speaks to his belief in liberty for all individuals. I'm just saying that's not how this will be spun by the media.

After reading many of the "Letters"
I've concluded that they were statements of opinions, and not negative racial comments, but instead reflections of mainstream opinions of their time. That RP's newsletters printed these opinions is a positive, as repression of the feelings of the "commons" is nonproductive. When there is a problem in the commons, repression of these feelings is counterproductive. These feelings NEED to be expressed to make any needed change. It is never a positive to hold within negative feelings. Ron Paul does a TREMENDOUS service to communtity by providing an outlet for providing the community an outlet for expressing these ideas, for without such an outlet, these idea will only fester in the souls of men, and that will increase the problems, not solve them.

I feel sick to my stomach about the letters. I feel like my name might as well have been on them. I've told my family and friends all about Ron Paul and how I thought he had an outstanding character. Now I have the responsibility to go back to each one of them and tell them about this crap because they need to be informed about that as well. I can see overlooking some of it and giving Ron the benefit for not writing it but the fact is he was hanging around people who make racist comments; it's horrible and we should figure out why people like this are attracted to Libertarianism.

there are many ignorant people that will just read the headline that says something like "Ron Paul's racist newsletter"
on the other hand, Ron Paul answered the question with fire in his belly. He showed how he was outraged at people calling him racist, he mentioned he is against the war on drugs and he said Rosa Parks and MLK were his heros. He was clear with his answer and hopefully people that saw it or will see it will look past the headline.

We have to remember nearly half of America has still not heard the name Ron Paul or is completely ignorant to his positions. This was ultimately Name Recognition for many people - dispite the smear. More people will be curious about the buzz and more learn the truth.
